A beautiful old-fashioned hotel, just what we were looking for. Everything was fine. Parking not available at the hotel and then not easy and expensive. However, the hotel is worth the effort.

Overall very good but i think the breakfast isnt as good as it used to be. Parking is limited so not guaranteed a space and the parking outside the hotel is expensive. Kristian behind the bar is very friendly

Parking in their car park is not free, it's £10. This is obviously a very old building so not a lot of soundproofing 🙄. Breakfast is self service and was lukewarm at best. The staff were very friendly and helpful though.

The car park was too small. No monitoring of the care park. I felt outsiders used it even if they were not going to the hotel for an event or meal etc.

Parking v limited and expensive on road if you can’t get in car park which was the case for us. No wifi .. internet was down throughout hotel. No gardens it outside space sadly. Staff were friendly but didn’t seem to be any urgency to get wifi fixed and I needed to do some work. It’s an old hotel with nice friendly staff and the rate was good so that saved it!

Used this hotel before due to its location and generally value for money. Please note you need to add breakfast and parking (another £20) to the room cost. WIFI was adequate.

Hotel and staff were lovely. Sadly, no tv or wifi was working. We had a gentleman coming in to our room to try and sort this with no luck. Not enough parking spaces. Where we got there, the parking was full and we had to drive around and find somethinh else.

From the minute you stepped through the revolving front door everyone was friendly and welcoming. My fifth floor room was just what I needed for a good night's sleep even the quaint lift was a good experience. Overall I would definitely stay again. Thank you.

This lovely old hotel is perennially reliable and perfect for walks to the Barbican, the city centre and the Ferry terminal. No need to book a taxi and they are willing to hold one's luggage for the return. The receptionists are wonderful and the bar/lounge very cosy.

The hotel has seen better days. Our initial room had multiple issues (toilet and internet) that never got resolved, but we were moved to a better room for nights 2 and 3. Parking is extremely limited. We had to use a nearby car park for the first night.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Room slightly dated in terms of decor but bathrooms were modern and spotless. Staff was professional, welcoming and friendly - particularly Pippa in reception and Khayse in the breakfast room.

Clean but rather dated room, comfy bed. This is a beautiful Victorian building that just could do with some updating. Very friendly staff at breakfast. No shampoo/ conditioner provided just hand and body wash (I think as there were no labels saying what the product was!)

One of, if not the worst stay I’ve had in years. We had 2 rooms booked, a family room and a superior double. Firstly the family room was very cramped, and the single mattress has seen much better days and hardly represented a mattress anymore. The room was very dated and worn down, and had a very musky smell. While the superior double room was better, it was in fact much larger than the family room, and made more sense for this to be the family room. However that was unfortunately the only positive of the room. This room again was very worn down, and this one was pretty dirty. The floor clearly hadn’t been mopped or cleaned, the shower was covered in hair, long and short, the towels had black marks on them and the wall was flaking away with clear signs of damp. The shower was terrible, with the water pressure coming and going, and it taking 5 minutes for the temperature to stabilise, both the shower and toilet dripped with the noise being heard through the night too as the door doesn’t close properly and there is a huge gap underneath, and the handle was hanging off. We had multiple key issues, with it regularly deactivating and needing to go to reception to re-program. The tap water also came out cloudy several times. The car park also only has roughly 10-15 spaces, so fills up pretty fast, by the Wednesday evening we arrived, there wasn’t any spaces. Breakfast was not worth the price at all and a very small selection, with none of it being particularly good.

This hotel is very dated . We had to ask for more pillows because they were so flat ,bed was comfortable but new duvets and pillows are needed. The carpet in room was stained.

Friendly staff, easy check in and out. Room clean and tidy.

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at this comfortable and very reasonable hotel. Staff were polite, decor was tasteful and opulent. It was very clean and the breakfast was very tasty. There was nothing to complain about.

Staff were great - one wall was covered with damp stains & paint was flaking off onto carpet & desk. Bed felt a bit damp.

One night stay. Positives: Room was a good size. Negatives: The 5ft mattress is on a 4ft6 base no idea why; The cold water tap did not work to start with, then produced hot water, after some time this became cold, about 4-5 minutes. Badly fitted curtains Windows dripping with water when curtains pulled The room I had been allocated faced the Pavilions, which also had 2-3foot external protruding walls either side, this caused a wind tunnel effect which almost drowned out the sound of the cars on the main road 5 floors down. Whilst I appreciate older buildings have their natural quirks, you heard other people walking around and I made every effort to pad as quietly around the room as possible. There are signs of covered up damp in the corner, this has been wall papered over. There is also a lack of useable plug sockets.

Lovely hotel, nice comfy bed & good shower/ bathroom. Room was warm so had to sleep with window open which made it very noisy on the Saturday night unfortunately. Good location & easy walking distance most places.

The room was way too hot with no fan provided. We couldn't open the window as there was a baby bird nested on the windowsill. Of course that's not the hotels fault but they could of provided a fan for the room. There was a massive crane doing works from early in the morning so the noise from that mixed with the heat caused me a terrible sleep. But, the bed was comfy, the room was tidy and the communal areas looked well kept and looked after and the staff were friendly.

Room was smalll compared to many other times we have stayed there noisy radiator was told the first night that they would move us the next day showed them a live video of the noise had to get up 3 times during the night to turn down then when complained said no other rooms available so had to sleep with no heat with our coats on

Like the old world charm of the hotel but there were problems with the windows in the suite which rattled all day and night. Windows need attending to as they have swelled and are not shutting properly and rattle constantly.

Two rooms booked and were different ends of hotel - one had sea view- one poor disappointing view. Rooms were good size and clean but very cold as radiators hardly came on. We were on fifth floor and water took a while to come through warm. Queue for reception as only one person on Limited bar choice but a good breakfast and staff were pleasant in all areas

Hotel was ok for price. My only issue would be the shower that was operated by two mixer taps and almost impossible to get the temperature right.

Iconic building and remnants of Victorian grandeur. Bathrooms too small and difficult to shower in. Building is showing its age and creaking floors above could be noisy at night. Staff were all friendly and everything was clean. They've only got the tools that they have. Worth a night for the history.

This is the 3rd time we stayed usually stayed up in the tower suite. This time stayed in a standard double. Wallpaper and plaster falling off the wall, huge broken spring hanging down from infer the chair and window hardly opened so was extremely uncomfortable due to the heat. Was glad to leave and go home to a more ventelated place. Very disappointed seems our other stays have been wonderful, we even had our wedding reception here. Lovely receptionist did waver the £10parking charge.

I will never stay at this property again and implore you to consider another option as well. I was moved twice during myvstay within the first couple of hours of my stay. 1st roo. - room 101 had plumbing issues and a heater that didn't work. Room 110 wherr I was then moved to had the inside llsecure lock broke - concerning for single female travelling alone, - and there was a MOUSE in the room. The 3rd room I was moved to, room 414, also had a non functioning heater but by this time I was done. I stayed rattled the whole stay about mice in the building and regretted immensely booking this hotel. Ratings misleading and simply not okay. And if they at all cared about customer service, they wpuld have themselves offered a refund the minute I had to be moved a second time following reporting of a MOUSE IN MY ROOM. If I could give a rating less than 1 star, I would.

We arrived at 2pm to check in, but the room wasn’t ready until 3pm. We left our luggage in the storage room and returned to the hotel around 9pm to quickly get ready to go out. However, upon checking in, we were told we didn’t have a room. After waiting for 1 hour and 20 minutes, we were informed that our room had been given to someone else. We were finally accommodated in a different room around 11pm—unfortunately, far too late to make our restaurant reservation. Unfortunately, the staff we dealt with were not very polite and came across more comical than professional, which didn’t help the situation. We did still head out, but opted to take a taxi as it was too late to walk to the Barbican, which is about a 15-minute walk away. The next morning, we went to breakfast shortly before it closed at 10:30am, arriving around 10:15am. While food was still available on the hot plates, most items were lukewarm and quite tough in texture.

After booking i read poor reviews and was worried. However, we arrived and was greeted by a lovely friendly receptionist. Couldn't check in as was too early so came back after getting some food and walked into such a clean and bright room. Everywhere was very clean! You can lock the bedroom door from inside which is a something i read on reviews you couldn't! Bar prices arent too bad at all and we had a live singer who was incredible. They have board games in the lounge next to the bar, we sat for hours and really did enjoy ourselves. The bar man Ed is amazing, great customer service and dealt with a situation that unfolded so quickly and safely. Also want to praise Milly, such a beautiful friendly girl! Unfortunately stood outside one night we were approached by a man who wasn't very nice at all, the night receptionist, Ed, Milly and another young gentleman dealt with this situation very well, especially Ed and Milly. Unfortunately the night manager was useless and although i appreciate it's extra work and paperwork, the safety of his staff and guests should of been his main priority but it fell on myself, my partner, Ed, Milly, the young lady behind reception that night and another member of staff. Rooms are very warm and i recommend taking your own fan. Aside from the heat, which the hotel has no control over and the night managers poor response to a situation, the hotel is beautiful, if there was more to do in the area we would of returned 100%!

I prepaid a room for my son to attend a family funeral but at check in the night porter demanded payment insisting it had not been paid in advance - very poor service and no apology

I stayed here a week ago and my room was lovely as was my stay. This week the room’s decor and condition was very poor; although it was exceptionally clean. The heating did not work and I was freezing! Initially , the hotel offered to bring a heater but it did not arrive. I asked to be moved and was given a room where the heating worked! Overall, I had a good stay .

The hotel staff especially on the front desk were superb , helpful and polite.

We checked in and put in room 511 to find the heating was not working we told reception and the changed are room to 411 itcwas a little warmer so the gave us a little oil radiator which did the job. The staff at great and try to do anything for you.

Quirky old property and very handy for hoe

I've stayed here a few times, proper traditional old hotel, lovely rooms with refurbished bathrooms. Walking distance of the Hoe and historic waterfront, convenient for the ferry port too. Friendly staff always make you feel genuinely welcome.

I like the grandeur of this Victorian Hotel. Near the city centre and within easy walking distance to bars and restaurants. Close to the Hoe and the Barbican. Some restoration work is ongoing but this did not disturb me.

Our room was amazing , the hotel was lovely and clean , walkable distance to bars , shopping and cafes . Right by the hoe . Lovely walk . We would come again .

Great location

This Victorian gem is perfect for Brittany Ferries passengers. The staff are very polite and helpful, the breakfast is excellent. Bath/showers are generous, clean and with great water pressure. Walking distance to the Barbican, Plymouth Pavilions and Ferry Terminal. There's a lot of heart and soul here.

Friendly staff, historic building near the Hoe and walking distance to everything. I like the hotel and often choose to stay there when I'm visiting Plymouth both when I'm on business and when socialising.

Old-school hotel with lots of character, but also clean and comfortable rooms. Single-bed room and bathroom had ample space. Could hear some sounds from the corridor but nothing significant. Excellent cooked breakfast with friendly, welcoming staff (although they struggled a bit on busy weekend mornings).

No latch or lock on bathroom door. Defective extractor fan in bathroom. No service at all in the breakfast room. Gone downhill. You have to do everything yourself now. Self service counter is difficult to use unless you have 3 hands. One to hold plate, one to remove and hold enormous lid and one to take the food.

Property was nice getting a bit tatty in places probably due to the age of it everyone was welcoming breakfast was nice and freshly cooked to order carpark needs to be bigger as parking outside of hotel is expensive overal had a nice weekend would stay again

Stayed here as attending show at Plymouth Pavilions. Couldn’t get closer - literally just across the road. Check in easy and friendly. Got a space in small hotel car park which has short walk-through to hotel. Superior room spacious with shower and bath ~ both of us happy. No hairdryer in room. Had pre-show set meal = perfect, and as happy hour pints etc were £3.50. Only thing that let it down was breakfast - served till 9.30 except Sun, so got there just after 9 - no tables so had to wait with 3 other couples in lounge till table free. Then no pastries, coffee ran out, hot water ran out and some couples had to wait quite a while for hot breakfast order to be taken. All drinks / pastries were replenished but there was a lot of waiting around. If they addressed this, they’d have got 5 stars.

We love this hotel we stay there every 8 weeks. It never disappoints. Lovely breakfast.
