The Angel Hotel

All good, enjoyed the historic central location. £20 daily parking was not expected though, in a car park that is not 24hrs (locked at night)

The hotel is well sited for a Cardiff visit being close to the castle and the rugby stadium. It has seen better days and the decor urgently needs some attention. The lift was not working (I think it been out of action for a little while) so it was a bit of a climb to my room on the second floor. The facilities in the room were good and there was very little noise from inside or outside the hotel. The price for the accommodation was very good and I would stay again but probably I will wait until the lift is fixed

No heating on in hotel in dining room or our bedroom! There is NO lift working . Never stay here again

Lovely hotel near the Castle. Large, comfortable room. Be advised the lifts are out of order.

We were under the impression from the website there was limited parking. The car park was a building site. We wete not told upon arrival that the only carpark available would be closing due to the rugby match we asked if anything was going off in the stadium and the guy said no nothing when in fact 64000 peopke decended on it on the saturday. We had 6 bags and had to carry them up the stairs with the car sat on double yellow lines on a bed by traffic lights. We loded up the porters trolly i attempted to move this whilst hubby parked the car. The porters trolly wouldnt fit in the lift so then i had to man handle the bags into the lify whilst everyone was watching. Then i had to stuggle once i was on the correct floor. Staff were lovely, breakfast was great! The lady whi i think was the breakfadt manager was great! Bed was super comfy! A lovely hotel but the parking thing spoilt it so we'll be going back to stay at our usual hotel (which was closed due to refurb)

The lifts were not working nor was the heating, hotel certainly needed a makeover with peeling wallpaper and paint, the staff are excellent I think the management need to get working

Pros: Very friendly staff. Spacious bedroom. Centrally located in Cardiff city and near the football stadium and restaurants/shops. Very reasonable price for room only. Cons: There is no hotel carpark and you should factor in parking in a nearby secure multistorey carpark. This cost me £32 per 24 hours. Apart from the grand entrance hall the hotel is looking very tired and needs investment.

Great location opposite cardiff castle and near queen street with lots of banks eateries and shops. Hotel had helpful friendly housekeeping staff, topped up cleaned and helped with the luggage with a smile. Food was good and well priced for a hotel. Reception staff a bit untrained. They were confused on two occasions on duration of my stay and how to program the card. Each time was a different staff. I stayed for 10 days and twice my cards got deprogrammed and I had to trudge back three flights down to reception to get it programmed again! BIggest issue : LIFT DID NOT WORK DURING MY ENTIRE STAY, I had to climb up three flights of stairs to get to my room. And I had to shop for school and dorm supplies and haul it up and then find the card was not working on two separate occasions and carry it back down to reception and back up again. Staff said it was an old lift so they were waiting for spare parts to be shipped from the US!! I would not have bookeda hotel without a lift. Even with a working lift you have to carry the luggage up from hotel doors to reception ! The room also does not have a mini fridge.so its hard to store milk or cheese or drinks. Fire alarms kept going off several times.

Lovely hotel, opposite the castle. Had a lovely view of the castle. Only downside was the lift being out of order during our stay. A fair few stairs to be tackled, but otherwise I would stay again

Repair Lifts. I stayed at the Angel Hotel last month and the lifts were not working then.

Good location in Cardiff. Clean room, excellent breakfast. Would be happy to stay in this hotel again. The shower gel and shampoo were in small bottles, which were slow to dispence. I would take my own get and shampoo next time.

Always like to stay in the Angel Hotel, Cardiff . Staff friendly always a nice welcome which is a must on reception. Breakfast well recommended good value for money. Rooms lovely and clean basic & comfortable.

Classy place, very clean and most importantly quiet. If i had one moan it would be the need to replace the single bed mattresses. Pre-formed indentation which gave me a bad back nxt morning

In shockingly bad condition. No working elevators, and we were told that they would not be repaired during our stay. The "elevators out of order" signs had the appearance of having been in place for weeks. The bathroom had more mold than a health inspector would/should tolerate. Peeling paint everywhere. And not an apology or sign of apparent embarrassment from the staff.

The photos are from maybe 20 years ago. It is a dirty run down hotel. The wall paper was peeling up, mold was painted over, cobwebs everywhere, dead bugs in the lighting. Even the bed was sunken in on one side when sat upon. We contacted expedia immediately and were informed to stay the evening due to no manager after hours to reconcile with. We got in very late in the evening and were left with no choice but to stay a night. We immediately checked out first thing in the morning citing all of the appalling conditions. The manager did not seem surprised in the slightest and never even asked for what room we were in until we were about to leave and asked if we had other accommodations already. Do not stay in this digusting hotel.

Nice old building but in need of a good clean and update. Room was on third floor at the other end of the hotel, lifts were not working so it took quite some time to walk to the room with our luggage. Room smelt damp and unpleasant, would not return.

The hotel is amazingly placed for what we needed (going to Cardiff Castle) and staff were really friendly and helpful. The room we had was large, but in desperate need of refurbishment and was pretty dirty in places, lots of cobwebs, really dirty skirting boards, stains on the walls, lamp shades and wall paper peeling, grouting in bathroom missing and loose tiles etc. there was also a petty old looking fuse box on the wall.

We stayed room only. We had a lovely big room for the 3 of us (2 adults and a teenager). It suited our needs perfectly. It was clean and tidy.

Room was filthy, stains over chairs, thick clumps of dust to side of radiator clearly not been cleaned in years, Top of window frames filthy dirty with thick dust and Room window frame broken and window rattled all night. Bath had hairs on it and not been cleaned also and floor tiles cracked Wallpaper peeling everywhere in room. Breakfast was just as bad lady who did the meet and great was extremely rude with hardly any hot food it was not replenished for over 45mins. Waited over 25min for pot of tea if serving teas is an issue perhaps invest in a self serve machine.

Room and amenities are a little tired and in need of refresh. We also had a room over the main road and the windows don’t keep any noise out.

Room was spacious, bed was comfortable. However, fan was not working, no netflix etc, no fridge, no phone, no parking

A lovely welcome from reception on arrival, the room was massive! Nice bathroom a bit dated but it was in keeping with the hotel, it was nice and clean the bath needed some tlc but it was fine. The bed was tonate for me it was a spring mattress and I felt I was sinking, and the room had no air con just a fan and was really warm

Everything was clean and I don't mind the shabby decor, but that mattress was criminal! Saggy, lumpy, awful (and I really am not fussy).

Lovely room overlooking the castle

We stayed for 2 nights at the angel hotel to see will Smith in concert at Cardiff castle. The hotel is in a great location, very central for everything and right opposite the castle. And only a 10 minute walk from Cardiff central station. The hotel is lovely, with a very grand entrance and lobby area with the iconic double staircase. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Our family room was huge! 2 separate bedrooms which was perfect. And a huge super kind comfy bed. We had breakfast both mornings at the hotel. It was really good value for money. Plenty of choice and great service in the restaurant. Overall excellent stay, we would definitely visit the hotel again 10/10

Quick friendly check in, clean room, the magic of the singing in the Angel on match day. The room whilst clean was tired eg rope on sash window broken, paper peeling from walls. No plugs near bedside table and remember to take plugs for phone chargers as no usb sockets. That being said, we enjoyed our stay and view from our room

We travelled as a family (2 parents, 2 teenagers) and were staying one night. The staff on the front desk were very welcoming and the family room was like a palace - with two separate rooms in it: one with a superking bed and the other also very spacious with twins. We were not expecting so much space so were pleasantly surprised! The best thing about this hotel is its fantastic, central location, right in front of the castle and a stone's throw away from the start of the high street. We planned ahead and booked parking in advance on Greyfriars Road which worked well for us, as we were travelling light. Sadly we didn't get to trial the bar or food as we headed out flr the evening (can recommend Pilgrim Pizza nearby!). We definitely plan to return when we are next in Cardiff.

Friendly and helpful staff allowed me to check in early - comfortable and clean and reasonable pricing WiFi was awful - free hotel WiFi but kept losing connection every few minutes - took several minutes before shower got hot

We had a lovely one night stay at the Angel - everything was perfect - friendly helpful staff, comfortable, super clean room with lovely toiletries and a great breakfast. The location is perfect too for all city centre amenities. We went to the New Theatre which was a 10min stroll away. We will definitely stay again when we are next in Cardiff

Very friendly welcome, the reception team were great and a shout out to Joey who went over and above to make my stay pleasurable. I was visiting family so didn’t use the food and beverage options. I will definitely stay here again.

The staff at the Angel are always really helpful and welcoming. It's a lovely building to visit and the rooms can vary but are always decent, clean and comfortable at the very least. Breakfast is good. I stay here when I can!

Had a great stay here that started with the warmest welcome ever from Joey and Sarah. Both went above and beyond within 5 minutes of our arrival; we were able to check-in a bit early, and I thought I had left my credit cards at a nearby pub and Sarah was on the phone immediately to help me retrieve them. Room was clean and lovely. Location was great for our stay and will definitely return.

A great welcome - staff are always welcoming, positive and professional. The room was comfortable but some fixtures could be updated in the hotel - including lifts (which weren't working on my visit) and panelling/floor tiles in bathroom. But centrally located and good value for money.

We have stayed before and it was shame that this time the lifts did not work and the car park was no longer accessible. However, the current listing did not mention either of these, so others would not be expecting these facilities. The room was mostly clean but there was a lot of dust and rubbish behind the radiators and TV. The shower while hot leaked and there was no pressure in the bathroom hot tap. While recycling is encouraged, it is mostly leave it on the desk, including the teabags. This just felt untidy. We paid for an upgrade and while the room was bigger, it would have been nice to have some water and maybe biscuits. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although, one afternoon at the bar there was no one to be found, so we went to another bar in town. The Angel is very central and is a lovely building with lots of history. However, the needs to be some attention to detail and cleaning in the out of view places. Breakfast was nice, with lots of choice.

Excellent location. Come out the front door and you have the rugby stadium to your left and Cardiff castle to your right. 2 mins walk to lots of pubs and restaurants. Friendly staff, breakfast good, only downside was that the lifts were out of use while we stayed. Would definitely return to stay here again if visiting Cardiff.

The Angel Hotel in Cardiff is a wonderful place to stay. Its central location, right by Cardiff Castle and the Principality Stadium, makes it perfect for exploring the city. The historic building has real charm, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff are welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was excellent, and overall the hotel offers great value. I’d happily stay again.

Perfect location for events at the Principality Stadium

Staff were exceptionally warm and kind, the hotel is brightly lit but in warmer colours than more modern hotels which was easier on my eyes personally. Beautiful hotel directly across from the castle and at the edge of the arcades and shopping area, perfect for tourists

A night away for Xmas shopping with my mum. Great location for train station. Great value for money.

Easily one of the best situated hotels in central Cardiff!

Check in was fantastic, the lady was friendly, polite and very informative. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was just a bit dated. The bathroom had recently been tiled by the looks of it but some areas were in need of a bit of updating. There was no air conditioning but we could open the window slightly which was great and there was a fan. It did get very stuffy in the night! Breakfast was disappointing, my expectations weren’t too high for a 3* hotel, the food was ok, I was told I could order scrambled or boiled eggs but then when I asked for scrambled egg I was told the kitchen was closed! People were being turned away from breakfast, being told it was finished even though it wasn’t 10 o’clock. The 2 waitresses were not at all helpful. I booked this hotel for the location as we had a concert in the castle, it served a purpose but probably wouldn’t rush back!

The breakfast is so over cooked, it’s borderline jerky. Stayed here before and it was fine, but the last time the cooked breakfast was awful and inedible

First off, the location of this hotel is unbeatable if you are attending events at Principality Stadium (especially entry gates 2 & 3) or the Castle. There are plenty of shops, bars & restaurants all within a 10 minute walk. The staff were lovely & helpful (especially Joey on reception), & we had breakfast included rate, which was fine for us (it had cereals, cheese & meat, yogurt, fruit, croissants, juice & full English items - we don't eat meat so can't comment on that, but what we had was good & set us up well for the day). We didn't eat otherwise at hotel (as so many restaurants nearby), but they have room service, bar&restaurant on site. There is no parking,so if you need this, book in advance on JustPark (there are nearby options or a Sainsbury's which is around £2 per 24 hours, the Uber is around £8 each way, but still LOADS cheaper if there's an event on). My daughter & I had a twin room suite, 327, which was huge. The rooms are quite dated but clean, the beds are comfy, they provided fans to help with heat, it was good to have our own sitting area & toiletries were good. The room was surprisingly quiet given the location. If I was being fussy, the sofa could be comfier & one sash window in lounge (one furthest from bedroom) was noisy (rattling) due to the wind, but we sorted this by using a towel & it didn't keep us awake. Given the price paid as everywhere had increased prices due to Lana Del Rey, who we were here to see, I felt it offered really good value overall

A lovely building. The lobby was welcoming as was the staff at check in. The room was clean and tidy. A bit dated and quite small for a deluxe twin. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, continental was poor, lack of choice, the hot breakfast was ok but not very hot. All in all a comfortable stay.

Hotel was fine but in need of a bit of TLC and unfortunately the breakfast wasn’t really up to standard as everything apart from the beans was overcooked.

We have stayed here a few times over the years. To be honest its looking a little run down in areas such as the rooms look tired and some are small and very minimalistic. We booked breakfast over 3 days and didnt really get what we paid for as on both occasions at 9:30 am most of the trays of food were empty and had to make do with what was on offer. The location is outstanding and right next to the castle and principality stadium which was what we came for. All that said i will still go back as its still a really nice place to stay , the staff were friendly and pleasent at all times and overall very accommodating.
