The Reef Coco Beach Resort & Spa- Optional All Inclusive

Positives - drinks and food were good; staff in speciality restaurants/buffet and reception area friendly; pool (when open) nice and usually plenty of beds available in the morning Negatives - beach area is a thin strip and covered in seaweed (nearly every other area had cleared apart from this hotel), unsightly nets and boats moored. Horrid smell- disappointing as we didn't get to use watersport facilities included or even the beach area which is the worst ive ever seen in Mexico; staff at snack bar were miserable and would only take order when approached directly unless you were local; half of pool closed for two days when booking which wasn't advertised (maintenance was supposed to be finished a month earlier); beds hard

I was at The Reef Coco beach with the all inclusive formula. I found the resort very good. The room had all necessary and the cleaning were daily. I had no problems with air conditioning or security box, all was working. The buffet restaurant was good, the dishes well done and there were different options. No problems with drinks, with all inclusive I got all drinks, including cerveza, wine and cocktails. The different bars were ok and cocktails good. I got the beach towels from the hotel and the free sunbeds in the beach or swimming pool. To buy something there is a 7-eleven supermarket and pharmacy at 100 m far from the hotel. As well the quinta avenida is quite close and I went many times. The see in front of the beach has a net to stop the sargassum alga. The area within the net is not so big but it's ok. In front of the beach there are some anchored boats, but I was not distubed to much by them. I recommend this resort

Pool repair

I am a believer that the hotel should inform its patrons that before they book, they make them aware that 3/4 of the pool is closed.

Pictures are very deceiving !!! The whole property smelled. Mold on the bathroom doors. Food and horrible. I would not step in the pool.. it had broken tiles and luke warm water.

The food was terrible we left the resort everyday to eat breakfast lunch and dinner , all the food was cold and just had a very bad taste. The pool was under under construction with that being one of the main reason we picked this place was the all inclusive but we did not eat the food the drink did not even get to a busy . And the pool looks amazing online but it would have been nice to know it was under construction

A lot of boating close to the beach.

The pool was on reparations and there was no notifications of it till we arrived to the hotel. This was one of the main attractions of the hotel we considered when booking. That’s a really bad experience for me and my family. Expedia never told us or keep us posted of any of this updates or offered a other option.

Substandard buffet, dirty pool, broken pool tiles, ants around the pool area, unbearable odor

Very pretty grounds with a nice pool. Courteous staff. However, buffet food was always barely warm and minimal options. The room smelled like mold/mildew, with a lot of drain flies. There was also a strange sulfur smell outside of our room. Did not meet expectations. 😒

The property could use some updating especially with bedding. The bed is very hard and uncomfortable. I have traveled to various places in Mexico and this resort was by far the dirtiest. Housekeeping simply folded our dirty towels for reuse and didn’t empty bathroom trashcan. There were also issues with cleanliness around the pool area - one lounge chair had uneaten pineapple and ants on it. The staff were friendly enough. Unfortunately the week we traveled the weather was not great, there were no alternate activities outside going to the pool. I understand this isn’t the usual scenario, it was just disappointing that there were not other amenities offered. I would not likely stay at this place again.

The Reef at Cocoa Beach where do I start checked in second day? I was all stopped up and noticed that it was mold growing around the heat vents informed the desk they said they would clean it. They never did third day. I had a short in my room in the fan that caused sparks to arc out across the room informed the front desk no one came for 45 minutes so I packed my bags And went to the front desk and asked for a new room the staff was friendly. The hotel was clean. This was my first vacation so maybe I was expecting way too much for an all-inclusive resort but that being said I think it was a little disappointing. My second room was two double beds and it was clean and no issues with electrical or mold. I would love to give them five stars but unfortunately, I don’t think that they really did a great job.

During my stay, I encountered several serious issues that significantly impacted my experience and well-being. Most notably, the beach adjacent to the property was in extremely poor condition. It was unsafe and unusable due to a significant accumulation of sargazo (seaweed), which was left uncollected and rotting, emitting a strong odor and creating an unsanitary environment. Despite this being a known issue in the region, the hotel made no visible effort to clean or maintain the beach area for guests. More concerningly, the lack of cleanliness extended beyond the beach. General hygiene standards throughout the property were subpar, and I ultimately developed a severe dermatological condition during my stay — a direct consequence, I believe, of the hotel’s failure to maintain proper sanitary conditions. This has required medical attention and caused considerable distress. This experience was unacceptable, especially given the standards and expectations communicated by the hotel in its marketing materials. I trusted The Hotel to provide a safe, clean, and professionally managed environment, and that trust was completely violated.

the facility was very pretty and clean. Rooms had a musty smell and some of the areas in the pool need need to be repaired (tilles missing etc.) Food is good but same breakfast everyday in the buffet. Not alot as to shopping within the facility either.

Staff was great, good customer service. My only concern with this property is the water and horrible sewer smell all around the property. The water had a really bad smell, unbearable which I know is unsafe to shower in and inhale. The food could be a lot better. I was nauseous and vomiting from eating from the dinner buffet. The Japanese restaurant “no kids allowed” due to the “knives” so no hibachi. Do I recommend this property?! In all honesty NO.

The week days were quieter with more locals. Beds were rock hard and the hotel hallways are very very noisy at all hours. We were right by the elevator and could hear every peep. The pool turned my swimsuit and my hair green, if you bleach your hair don’t get it wet. The food was great, my fav was the Japanese restaurant. Not a big resort but safe and comfortable.

I really liked the entrance of the property, we received the wrong room the first night there the bed was so hard the following day we got another room and the bed was equally hard, pillows were soft.

Upon arrival, I knew this was not a premium resort. The entire lobby is an open air concept with no air conditioning. The lobby, check in desk, concierges, excursion/travel planners, and common areas are all non air conditioned. The rooms are typical hotel style rooms with old decor and worn furniture. Beds are harder than the floors. BEWARE, this is a timeshare resort!!! They will attack you at check in and do all they can to “give” you free excursions, free travel, even free credit cards to buy things from the gift shop if you’ll only attend a 90 minute timeshare orientation. If you refuse, the timeshare sales rep will glare at you and make you feel very unwelcome the remainder of your stay. The entire resort has a moldy mildew smell. ALSO, THIS RESORT BOOST OF AN ALL INCLUSIVE EXPERIENCE, YET EVERYTHING COSTS EXTRA! Premium liquor cost more, they only offered us 4 brands under the all inclusive package we purchased. Also, they have 3 restaurants and require reservations. The Japanese restaurant costs extra per person and then they charge you extra for shrimp or lobster!! AND the pool closes at SEVEN pm!!! The ONLY entertainment this resort has is the pool and it closes BEFORE DARK!!!! You get a key card for the room and one for a pool towel. It’s an extra charge if you lose a room/towel card. AND, the front desk picks up the phone and just hangs up, so you have to walk to the front desk to make reservations! Restaurants don’t open until 6:30!

Parfait pour les courts séjours. Les chambres sont vieilles et très humide. Des fuites d’eau. Pas d’eau chaude. Pour 2 jours c’est supportable lorsque vous êtes seul. Je ne serais pas resté avec les enfants. La nourriture est bonne. Le personnel aussi. L’emplacement est super aussi.

Room smelled like sewer, bed and pillows mega extra firm I went for vacations to relax and end up with back pain hahaha

Our room was damp and smelled really bad. Beds are hard as rocks as are the pillows. Location is good and pool and beach access is great - the room accomodations were just not welcoming or comfortable.

The flush valve was constantly making noise, the shower stall leaked water and flooded the bathroom, and the bathroom had a small mirror with a light that gave off electric shocks. None of these issues were resolved, and we weren't even moved. There's only a buffet restaurant and a snack bar, where the food selection is very limited and repetitive. The pool isn't as large as it appears in the photos, and the beach is small, and the docked boats spoil the view. Four days before the trip, I received an email offering extra services like very early check-in and very late check-out. I requested both and received a confirmation email, but upon arriving at the hotel, my very early check-in was denied and I had to wait four hours to get into my room. The beds are too small for a couple; they're not queen-size, just full-size. The crib didn't have a mattress; blankets were improvised in place of a mattress.

The hotel is close to 5th ave., but far enough away that it is still quiet. The property sits right on the beach and has a decent sized pool. The rooms are clean but not many amenities. Bathrooms appear to have been remodeled recently.

This was not whats pictured. The rooms are small. We asked to be away from too much sound and they put us tight next to the pool and the party that was! It sounded like the DJ was in our room. The bed was a brick. The room was sparse to say the least. We left that day.

Staff is great.

As much as it saddens me, my friends and I did not have a great experience at the Reef Coco Beach. Previously staying in Cozumel 2 years prior, my friends and I were over the moon to travel to Playa and experience all there is to offer. Off the bat, staff were very unfriendly, greeting guests around us but simply turning a blind eye to my group of 5 and waving us to the front desk to check in. We had 2 rooms reserved but once we got to them, one was completely flooded with water actually flowing, not dripping, from the AC. It took 3 calls to finally get half of our group moved. Disappointing, but we could look past it. After that, we decided to explore the property. I asked the front desk questions on where to locate certain amenities within the resort, only to be responded to very bitterly as if the staff were annoyed. there are many “staff” that walk around, trying to sell you excursions, kinda annoying. During our 7 day stay, we dealt with the smell of mildew and bugs in our room, mediocre food, passive aggressive wait staff at the restaurants and bars- the bar staff being the absolute most unfriendly. Don’t get me wrong, there were some fabulous staff members that we were made sure to take note of their names: Abi, Allen, Angel, Francisco, Brenda, and Orozco from the Japanese restaurant. I’m unable to type much more in this review, but would’ve loved to offer more insight. I’d recommend staying in Cozumel- absolutely beautiful with the most kind people you’ll ever meet.

Most of the staff was excellent, they definitely respond to friendly customers......as they should! At check in we were told we would not have a king sized bed because this was a family friendly resort, however when booking reservations for dinner we were told that no more than 4 could be seated together. The restaurant staf was excellent and had no problem seating all 6 of us together. The safe in our room was locked when we arrived and, after 3-4 times telling the front desk, we simply gave up. If it wasn't for the front desk and concierge service we would have given the staff a 5-star rating, that is really unfortunate. The activities were fun and you got out of them what you put in. Water aerobics, music trivia, bocce ball on the beach, disco at the sports bar and karaoke was all a really good time. It's a smaller resort and the beach is roped off, if you're looking for the Cancun type water, this wasn't it. Food was okay at the buffet, the Mexican and Italian restaurants and snack bar were delicious! I felt like this all-inclusive had more 'not included' items than most, but we had everything that we needed. Not a lot of extra activities for kids, yet I wasn't traveling with kids so I may have missed some things. This resort is what you pay for, however if you have to travel on a budget, it is clean and you'll have everything that you need. About 45 minutes from the airport

Front desk staff made rude comments, the rest of staff were very professional

Property was nice and the workers were great. The bartenders remember who you are so every time they see you walking towards the bar they have your go-to drink ready which is a great feeling. I went in mid December so they were very festive and it looked beautiful. Only 2 downfalls I experienced was the chrome cast not working after the first day of being there and that the buffet and snack bar food was bad and had very limited options. However, I didn’t have that much expectations for that aspect especially at an all inclusive. The restaurants there were great especially the Italian one. Overall the resort itself definitely a great place to go relax and actually vacation. One last thing the resort is in a great spot on the beach of playa del Carmen 5min walk from 5th Ave which is a long no vehicle street where you walk and experience different restaurants, lounges, shopping centers and convenience stores.

To no fault of the resort my 5 hr travel time took 19 hours. But when I checked in and was hounded with the time-share up sell, it was a little off putting to try to get the rep to understand that all we wanted was to get to our room and decompress. This technique is very in your face and quit frankly irritating.

Great stay & hotel, only thing that I found distasteful was the pushy sales people for the 'Leading Vacation Club' membership.

The people were PHENOMENAL! The rooms were spacious and super clean with a line to hang swim wear on

Our stay began awesome, we were given an Oceanside room, the staff was attentive and the room was very clean. Even though the beds are awful and the pillows are hard as rocks, the resort itself was bearable due to the customer service we thought existed. By our third night there, it became apparent that housekeeping did not take their job serious, the days they actually showed up, they did not sweep the floor, dirty linens were put on our bed, dirty towels were stocked and every time we asked for them to clean they would not show up until late in the evening or not at all. Our Beautiful Oceanside view quickly became a nightmare when we realized that they housed us to directly above the sports bar that is open until 2:00 a.m. our entire vacation was spent sleepless and exhausted because there were loud obnoxious drunks keeping us up with their wretched laughing until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. Air conditioning unit leaked which caused me to slip and fall and injure myself, what we thought was going to be a full refund as an effort to make right, turned out to only be half of a refund which we were not informed of until we were only minutes from leaving to the airport. All in all I would not recommend this place. The food made both me and my wife very sick. We left the resort tired, exhausted and both with debilitating stomach issues.... Not a very great honeymoon location

Fabulous location- clean - beachfront- pretty environment- easy access to go out and explore Playa del Carmen which was really why we stayed here- and that was the best part! It is a lovely hotel but it is also a vacation club so you have to deal with the assault of “ options” to be a “ gold member” or upgrade to all inclusive- and the whole “ buffet scene” was less than delicious. Drinks were also cheap liquor unless you’re a “ gold member”and the swim up bar- that was like a bad scene from the love boat!!

Great location on a nice beach. Easy to get to 5th. Ave. For shopping and dining. The food at the buffet is very good.

Resort is ok. Very clean everywhere. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice pool and beach area. Food not great but plentiful and I always found something I could eat at the buffet. Bed not very comfortable was probably the worst thing for me as I did not sleep well. I would return but not real high on my list.

Perfect location, the beach was great. You could easily walk to a beautiful cenote nearby. We only had breakfast and it was nice with a great variety of things to eat. The poolarea was fine, although it was crowded at times and loud music, we like to listen to the ocean instead. It was an easy walk to all the restaurants and shoppingarea- Quinta Avenida and that was perfect. The staff was nice and helpful.

Was nice to have the convenience of a resort and still within walking distance of plenty restaurants and tourist shopping

Everything was good until we were tricked into getting 1,000 peso bottle of wine (66 usd) at dinner. We order 4 glasses of wine the person offered a bottle. I understand there are some things that are not covered under all-inclusive packages but shouldn’t we made aware especially at that rate? We were dining at the restaurant that was covered in the package so we assumed the wine was too. Not only did he bring one but 2. Before even letting us know there was a cost, he had a 3rd bottle ready. He didn’t tell us until I asked. Felt scammed. Be cautious and ask questions before saying yes to anything.

As a frequent traveler to all-inclusive Mexico resorts, I'm going to compare. Pros- its right in the heart of Playa Del Carmen. Just a short walk to 5th Ave, which has amazing night life. Entertainment was good and kept kids, teens and adults entertained all day. Cons- The pool was so darn cold it was unbearable to be in. Waitstaff was very kind, but no one (and I mean no one) walked around to serve you- you had to go get your own drinks at one of the two pool bars during day hours. There was limited food options and food was below average (cold in temp most times). Would I go back, no. Would I recommend it, no. Was it the worst, no.

my dad and i came for 1 week and we were surprised how good this resort was. although the buffet food is not the best in my opinion they have three restaurants you can choose from for supper and those are all impeccable, from the food to the service everything was amazing. staff at the bars and poolside were beyond friendly, welcoming, and very funny. the beach was beautiful and had netting around to not allow any seaweed in the beach where you can swim. there’s also people on the resort to offer different excursions, and different shops set up at night by the pool. it’s also about a 5-10 minute walk from 5th street which is very convenient. i will definitely be coming back here hopefully very soon!

Horrible. Check Google for reviews. There’s not enough space on here to put my review. The resort itself is beautiful has a nice pool and plenty of seating around. Booked private pick up from airport and he was 20 minutes late so we got bombarded with taxi solicitors. When we arrived at resort, we were told there was an upgrade if we wanted top shelf or Japanese restaurant, but I had already paid the upgrade online so I’m a little confused. Food was disgusting. You have two places to eat the snack bar or the buffet otherwise you have to find a time that you fit in the restaurants because they only take six people at a time. The hibachi used fajita beef. Resort Staff was rude. Drinks were gross tasted like sweet n low with water. The snack bar must use soy burgers. The hotdog was an oversized Vienna sausage. Bar refused to give us a cup of water because they didn’t open for another 20 minutes. Bed was like sleeping on floor. Pillows were over stuffed. Room smelled like sewage and sulfur. There’s no daily entertainment besides water aerobics. There’s no night entertainment besides for an hour at 9 PM. In the end, this place is called Leading Vacation Club & they will waste a day of your vacation trying to sell you a timeshare for $40-90k because you have to have breakfast with them & then go listen to them in a room and you already missed the departure for an excursion.After declining to buy it the people that acted like they were your best friends never acknowledge you again.
