Occidental at Xcaret Destination - All Inclusive

Room is clean and spacious. They replenish your drinks in the fridge everyday. It’s right beside Xcaret park which is convenient. The wait time to get a drink is not ridiculously long. Drinks are good. No one explicitly ask for tips (money). Staff are polite. Beach is nice. U could see lots of fishes in the beach and salt water pool. No seaweeds. Pools are nice and clean as well. What we really like in this resort is the nature and history inside.. you’d see monkeys, iguanas, flamingos and other animals. You’d see several ruins too! Okay now, that so good part. Food is okay in the buffet. Ala carte.. is fine. Our favorites are Italian and Steakhouse. I got upset in with the Asian resto, coz I told the server and front of the house that my partner is allergic with cherry and guess what I saw on his plate, a piece of cherry! I had to talk to the server (i would have talked to the manager too) and the server said, it should be fine coz the food wasn’t cooked with cherries..really? I still tipped the server but i made sure she’s educated. Another disappointing thing is the check-in. We checked in around 8pm. It was a long day, bit hungry (hangry), and the check in is slow. Priority should go to people checking in. I was a bit cranky during registration but the front desk guy remained professional. Another less appealing here for some would be the lack of public transportation passing the resort. You’d have to walk to the hiway or call a cab.

Family friendly property with a relaxed feel. Animals freely roaming had a safari vibe. The hotel is spacious and everything is spread out so we utilized the shuttle a lot. It takes you all around the property to different restaurants and the beach. The food was okay. We stayed in the Royal section which had private pools and restaurants but that's about it. I think I would pass on that experience my next go round. Avoid the people pushing the time share presentation it's a waste of time.

Lovely Hotel surrounded by nature, great amenities and everything very clean! The best: we loved the sand beach (caleta) and the Beach Club, it's our favorite spot in the hotel for Breakfast and even Lunch. Service was 5* everywhere! What could be better: the entertainment at night is not the one of a 5* hotel, but there is always something to see. Also, the bar in the lobby has an extra cost and of course it is ALWAYS empty, guests have to go down the stairs for a coffe or a drink, which makes no sense for us... We noticed that this is a place to enjoy mostly the days, explore and relax, not the type of place for party and much entertainment at night. Our overall experience was great, very recommended!

In my opinion, this was the worst food experience I’ve ever had. Buffet food all day long and it seems like the same food they keep rotating throughout the days or weeks. Although the food looks ok, it’s either tasteless or the texture and temperature is like bad leftovers. Everything tastes watered down or something like flour added. Mexico is known for wonderful fruits, avocados, seafood and meats. Here, no fresh juice- the pineapple juice I got tasted like an added stevia type and carbonated water was added. No fresh guacamole, shrimp was bland had that dry cotton type texture to it. White fish was smelly, mooshy and chicken and hot dogs was mooshy too. Out of butter one day, ice cream machines broken twice, taco bar didn’t even have a decent taco. Comp coffee in the lobby old and cold. The coffee bar they have is not part of the all inclusive. The nacho cheese they serve at the snack bar gives movie theater nachos a Michelin star. The “beach” is a joke. Small man made inlet and no access to the real beach. Pool is cold after dark and there is no hot tub anywhere on the property. On our last day, we decided to spend the money to try and make up for the disaster and disappointment Occidental Xcaret caused. We took taxi to town/Playa Del Carmen and it ended being the best- supporting local restaurants that had amazing food; vibrant and fresh juice and exceptional tacos. The beach was beautiful, water was warm, we rented jet skis and played in the water.

Omlets were great. Had to ask for bacon each day. Said we got a room upgrade, but traveled with 8 people, 6 who did not have the upgrade. Our rooms were all the same. Staff very friendly. Staff cleaning, painting, sweeping constantly. Lagoon was very calm, if your not a Royal member, the bar was off limits at the lagoon, they did have a person who would get you drinks though. Never went to the shows, didn't seem very exciting. They could communicate what activities were going on, but never saw anything about them. The restaurants are ok, Oriental was our favorite. Good resort for the price overall. Plan on walking as the resort is huge. Saw monkeys, iguanas, deer, flamingos and coatis.

Property was well maintained and very nice, common areas clean and eco friendly, the only thing that could be better is food at the buffet (more choices) and more pool attendant to order drinks and sodas

El transporte entre las diferentes áreas del hotel es escaso. Las diferentes albercas del hotel no tienen calefacción y debido a que el clima estaba frío por las noches era imposible nadar en ellas. Entretenimiento en las áreas de alberca y caleta prácticamente ausente. Shows presentados en el teatro de mala calidad

Die Umgebung und die Lage waren super, insbesondere Pool und Strand. Es gab verschiedene Restaurants, teils mit, teils ohne Reservierung. Positiv hervorzuheben sind besonders die Pastastation und die hausgemachte, frisch zubereitete Pizza. Das Essen einschließlich aus den hoteleigenen Restaurants war teilweise schon einige Zeit im Vorhinein vorbereitet. Wir vermuten eine nicht saubere Kühlkette, weil wir beide mit Magenproblemen zu kämpfen hatten. Im Zimmer haben wir nach ein paar Tagen durch Zufall sehr viel Dreck an der Klimaanlage entdeckt. Dies wurde glücklicherweise taggleich gereinigt. Die Klimaanlage hat leider jedoch nur stark gekühlt und die Einstellmögleichkeiten für eine warmere Temperatur haben nicht funktionert. Das Personal war stets freundlich und hat gegrüßt. Gern hätten wir Feedback zum Aufenthalt persönlich gegeben, aber es wurde auch nicht danach gefragt.

The property is a challenge due to it’s location,needs a bigger cleaning staff.The room attendant was lacking spoke to them more than once.Some times no towels,other was no coffee did replace soap unless asked.

The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are nice but the floor never seemed clean. We were in building 22 and saw a lot of the monkeys. The food was below average. I have been to a lot of all inclusives in the area and this was by far the worst food. Loved the cove and swimming with the fish. Rest rooms were way too far apart and we had to walk far from almost anywhere to get to a rest room. Difficult with kids. The one by the swim up bar was always dirty and smelled like death. The "activity pool" had no restroom or bar near. Took the kids to the kids club to do some activities that were posted and saw them through the window sitting on a couch watching tv with no sound. We took them out and they told us the activities didn't happen. They played with blocks and watched TV. The shows were ok but very late but that is common at most resorts. I would not recommend and will not return.

La limpieza de las habitaciones y la amabilidad del personal es muy buena.

Smelled like mold, seemed like an abandoned room ,no hot water, the windows had no screens we got bit by mosquitoes. The bedding smelled a lot like mold.

Upon arrival on the first day, we found our room not stocked with the proper amenities. No coffee available. On second day, we came back to a room that had not been cleaned.

The room was spacious and clean with a nice size balcony. The Staff was nice and courteous. The food was excellent and the late night shows very entertaining. Loved the beach, the stores, the easy access to X-Caret and the excursions.

We visited this resort a few years ago and loved it! The shows, staff, and food were amazing! This last time was a far cry from that first visit. The resort is starting to show its age. Our room air conditioner leaked and the resorts solve for this was to place towels on the floor underneath it repeatedly throughout the stay. The power and water pressure went out one of the days we stayed while we were getting ready for our dinner reservation. By the time it came back on and we got ready we had missed our reservation time. The concierge service was not accommodating and the restaurant did not help us so we had to go eat at the buffet that evening. Every time we spoke with any of the staff at the concierge desks they were not willing to help us. It was just disappointing this time around. I will not be bringing my family back to this establishment.

Grounds are amazing and original. Huge property so good variety. Excellent family resort. Food was average, and if you have allergies, challenging but decent variety, and the poolside restaurant was quite good. Breakfast staff were possibly overwhelmed as that was the only meal with consistently poor service. The rest was great. Rooms are noisy, so if a light sleeper might be challenging. I could hear the people in room next door through the light socket. Many rooms face each other so external noise can be a problem but they are over the canal, with balconies so that's kind of cool. Resort is close to xplore (could walk it) which was amazing and less than an hour to tulum, playa etc. Would recommend for families, but for older people such as myself there was a lack of nice places to go at night for a quiet drink, and the general comfort level a bit low.

Food wasn’t amazing but staff was friendly and we enjoyed ourselves. The beach was very small. But pools were lovely. Lots of wildlife so that made the trip very unique!

The food and amenities are great. Stuff are friendly. But the water stream of room showers’ is too low and the temperature is unstable.

The resort itself is beautiful. There’s plenty to do around the property and with the Xcaret park a three minute walk away, it is very convenient if you want to add fun activities. There are so many photo opportunities. The staff was so kind and helpful. Every night the buffet staff would explain meal options and was ready to help if we wanted to try fun new drinks. Although the rooms are a bit outdated, they provided what we needed for our week stay. We would definitely stay again and even bring our families here!

Property and resort is absolutely beautiful overall. They just meed to work on some important issues. The rooms (mainly washrooms) are very dated and in rough shape. Sliding doors to balconies don't lock, yet are so stuff to open you don't really need to worry. Royal Club had very poor service around the pool, towels not cleaned up and not enough towels for people. Drink service around the pool was very infrequent if at all, faster to go to the restaurant bar. Hours for restaurants listed on the website are completely inaccurate and there is no way of receiving any accurate information. Our jacuzzi tub had rusty water and a lot of sediment, that and it was extremely old. One very wrong thing is that they don't replace your coffee cups and glasses at all, they are simply wiped out with a rag. Who knows where that rag has been. One of the pictures attached is a coffee cup after it was wiped out!!

We LOVED the resort. The pools were awesome food beverages all inclusive was pretty good. The stuff was amazing. The rooms could’ve been a little better. Better beds and bathrooms.

The property itself is beautiful. I had an issue with customer service when I tried to change rooms because I was located on the ground level. They told me I had to wait until the next morning to come by the office to see if any other rooms were available. If they were available I would have to check out at 11:00 and wait til 3:00 to check back in. That’s so ridiculous. Instead of the hassle we just toughed it out. The customer wasn’t considered first in this situation. The food was not good at all at the buffets. This resort is a 5 star but it doesn’t meet it’s status. I was disappointed in my stay there. Most of the staff spoke little to no English and it was difficult communicating. Please implement and improve your customer service department!!!

The female staff at the front desk and the servers were rude. Everyone was always trying to sell you a club membership. We were only able to eat at one of the nice restaurants once. They always claimed they were full. There was a fee for room service. Our room was very clean although around the pool areas could use some attention. I was disappointed. We should’ve listened to the people that gave reviews prior to us going. They were right about this place

Facility great and in central location to all Xcaret parks. Transportation well organized. Staff somewhat determined to have every guest see timeshare presentation.

Staff no customer service, check-in was horrible service . The first day light would keep going off on the entire property screening all over first time when we where eating , kids crying .

The staff at Royal level were so accommodating and wonderful! Specifically Andrea, Iris, Silvia, Aleysha and Sandra! Everything at Royal was great!

The staff here is awesome but really pushed to sale the time share & you get hit up all the time. The resort is absolutely beautiful. Other guests with children will use the adult only areas but only one guy was rude & belligerent.

Also food was horrible. Eggs in the morning were soggy. Even boiled eggs were impossible to eat. Fruit quality was poor. Food cooked on the spot was incredibly greasy and inedible. A la carte restaurants were better but require you to book in person at the information desk and can only be done two days in advance. The resort does not have an app.

We loved our stay at Occidental at Xcaret! The atmosphere was relaxed and happy. All of the staff were excellent and we felt so welcomed and well taken care of. The property is beautiful, set in the jungle with lush, beautiful grounds and an awesome private beach. We loved exploring, seeing the animals, swimming at the beach, hanging out in the pools, and spending time at the sports bar. The food and drinks were awesome, the buffet was outstanding! The location in proximity to Xcaret and other parks is perfect - we were a 2 minute walk from the park entrance down a private path. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay, and we hope to bring our family back to stay soon!

Beautiful Resort Beside Xcaret Great location beside Xcaret and Xplor Parks — you can take a boat from the main building to Xcaret and a free shuttle to Xplor. I recommend the standard Xcaret ticket (no buffet) since you can eat back at the hotel. The Xplor buffet actually had more variety and better flavor than the hotel buffet. The grounds are stunning, with ruins, trails, and wildlife like monkeys and deer. There’s a hidden cenote (best just to view, not swim). Rooms are comfortable, staff excellent, and shuttles run throughout the property. Downsides: limited food options and an outdated dinner-reservation system. The games room isn’t worth it due to high token prices. Tips: watch the sunrise, enjoy breakfast at the Beach Club, book dinner early, explore the grounds, and wear sandals due to animal droppings. Overall, a beautiful, well-kept resort with amazing scenery, though I’d try a different one next time.

This was our first time in Playa del Carmen and did not like it This hotel is in the jungle, with not a nice beach access, very rocky and not very clear water, and because you are far from any town taxis charge for 15 min ride 25.00 RT 50.00, personel not very friendly they are there just to do their job, Food is not that good and the same every day it gets boring after 3 days, lots of walking in the heat, humid jungle, lots of animals running around, so if you like camping or exploring this is your place, but for my family and I was a waste of our vacation and money, we had to rent a car outside the hotel just to get out to have some fun and see the nice aqua blue of the see at Isla Mujeres, I will never stay in this hotel or a place like this again. And we are not the only ones that think the same my husband friend told him all the bad things but we wanted to see it by ourselfs.

Easy access to Xcaret Park

The property is huge, with scenic paths that wind between the various pools, restaurants, and other buildings. It almost feels like exploring a small village instead of a bland resort. If you aren't up to walk a quarter mile to the beach there are shuttles constantly running but we enjoyed the walk and tried to take a different route every time. There is a lot of wildlife; deer, agoutis, and coati; plus iguanas and tropical birds. There are even flamingos next to one of the pools, and a trained hawk to keep seagulls at bay. The beach is in a small lagoon so there is no seaweed/sargassum and no rough waves. It's really ideal for playing in the water, with fish flitting about, although there is no surf. I thought the restaurants were fine, and it was pretty easy to get reservations. The servers were all great. The dress code isn't quite as strict as it says. Men don't need long sleeves and pants, nicer shorts and a collared shirt is fine. I do wish they would provide a cocktail menu, or up the cocktail game in general. The bad- one of the pool areas had no running water, so the showers as well as the bathrooms weren't running. But people were still trying to use the restrooms and it got gross very quickly. The fridge in our room didn't work, they fixed it but it wasn't until midway through our second day and I am surprised we had to ask at all. Our room also had no hair dryer. Small things but I would think it would get checked before putting someone in the room.

Perfect hotel to stay if you don’t want to spend a lot of $$ on the Xcaret Hotels. This hotel have their own entrance to the Xcaret Park, Xplor is only like 20 min walking(5 min in car). They do offer transportation to the parks, and Xcaret have an office in their Lobby where you can buy tickets to the park. Staff was friendly, hotel have beautiful views and a lot of stuff to do. Food was ok nothing from another world but decent. Only thing I didn’t like was their alcohol drink,to simple and no flavor in them. But overall it’s an ok hotel.

This was my second time staying at this property and my favorite part is the easy access to Xcaret park only a few steps and you are there. Friendly staff and beautiful architecture of the property.

Staff were very helpful and property was clean. Food was great and kitchen staff were able to accommodate our dietary needs.

The scenery was beautiful and the staff was amazing. The food at the buffet and their tacos and pizza restaurant were not that good.

This resort had the best food I have ever had at an all inclusive resort. I just didn't understand the point of the conceirge room. I will be back though. It was wonderful.

Buffet Food is miserable. It’s same food every day. We lived on pizzas and tacos served above sports bar till 2AM. Too difficult to book speciality restaurants. Have to book days in advance. Earlier resorts have an app where you can simply book by clicking few options. Here you need to stand in long queue at front desk and then make bookings.

The Occidental restaurant's cuisine was deemed poor quality, with the buffet being cold and appearing to have been there the night before. The food was bland, unauthentic, and difficult to eat. Many patrons left feeling disappointed and tried to get something else at the buffet. The establishment's fame and allure diminished efforts in food quality. Additionally, the constant painting of buildings and mold in the premises raised concerns about our health. We’re all at home currently feeling sick. There needs to be better scheduling of what’s open to eat. We walked four hours after checking in and everything was closed.
