Residence Inn Norfolk Downtown

Great Hotel location and good amenities. Parking and local transportation was so close. Hot breakfast was a treat. Gym was sparse except for three Treadmills. Indoor Jacuzzi and Pool were appreciated.

One of the only 2 elevators was down. There is no service elevator, either. The rush hour waiting on the elevator was terrible. The staircase access was hidden from the lobby.

First, this hotel is not accessible at it's street address. The entrance is behind it on York Street between Duke and Bush. Opposite it on York is a city garage where you need to park. At check in I was told the hotel would validate parking which allowed scanning and in/out privileges. Free? Oh, no. $18/day added to bill. Street parking? Let's not engage in fantasy. The room was large and comfortable and clean with housekeeping every 3rd day or by request. Only glasses were glass and inappropriate for bathroom use. BYO plastic. TV announced that most channels were available if you had your own subscription to sign in to. Otherwise, basic cable. No USB connections in the room, but plenty of 120v plugs. Again, BYO. A pleasant place, and walkable to many places in the city, nearby light rail station.

I did not like the upsell to pay for parking in garage only to find that the ticket machine in the garage has been out of order.

Love the property. Nice and clean. Did not appreciate having to pay every time I moved my vehicle in and out of the parking deck across the street.

We stayed in room 709, it was very clean, but several items were missing or damaged. Pull-out sofa was broken, which made it impossible to sleep on, TV remote was missing and TV in living room didn’t work even after asking to have it fixed, situation wasn’t resolved. There was no luggage stand to put the suitcase on, sink was clogged and carpet was damaged. The pool looked dirty and the hot tub condition was so poor that we didn’t risk using it. The bright star of the stay was our breakfast assistant DeeDee who was just amazing. Other than that, the hotel has a lot to catch up on.

I was disappointed in our stay. Almost every time we returned to our hotel room, our keys did not work. Then we’d have to go down to the front desk to get them reset. Additionally, when leaving for the airport on our final morning, the QR code the hotel sent for exiting the garage did not work. We left much later than planned because of this, and had to repeatedly work with the front desk to get a new QR code. We were then stressed about missing our flight. Overall, I was disappointed in our experience at this hotel

The property is close and convenient to the Sentara Norfolk Heart hospital. Easy access parking and desk clerk gave me a pass so I didn't have too pay.

BEWARE HOTEL HAS BED BUGS!! TWO DIFFERENT ROOMS!! FIRST ROOM HAD A BLOODY MATTRESS AND BED BUGS. SECOND ROOM HAD ONLY BED BUGS!! MY AUNT SHOWED THE FRONT DESK STAFF PICTURES AND THEY SAID THEY HAD TO INVESTIGATE BUT NEVER LEFT THE DESK IN ORDER TO SEE FOR THEMSELVES. ONLY ONE ELEVATOR WORKED. WORST EXPERIENCE AT A MARRIOTT EVER. NICE LOOKING BUT UNDER THE SURFACE MORE LIKE MOTEL 6. WE HAVE PHOTOS BUT THE SITE WONT LET ME LOAD THEM HERE.

Stay was great! Area was very accomodating for our stay. Rooms little dated but clean.

The upholstered furniture was soiled, the mattress pad was raggedy and didn’t fit the bed, some of the hard furniture had damage. The room smelled like old ramen noodles. The staff at the front desk were helpful. The garage across the street (the only parking for the hotel) was dirty and inconvenient.

Property was nice. The only issue I had was the cleanliness of the hotel room. The washcloths had makeup on them and Im guessing got washed and folded and placed back in circulation. The tub resin was peeling and the vent in the bathroom you could see the pile of dust in there.

The hotel was clean. The staff were amazing. Very friendly and willing to help anytime. Definitely recommend this hotel

Room was nice, sofa-bed very uncomfortable. My friend said she could feel the springs in the mattress. The water in the toilet ran constantly. The food was ok, the lady that worked the weekend was not friendly. The front desk staff were great. Breakfast from 7 -9:30 on weekend and 7-9 during the week too early. Should at least last until 10 on weekends. Overall nice hotel. Parking plentiful and convenient.

The beds were terrible -- too soft, saggy, and just worn out. We had to move rooms after 1 night because there was no hot water on the 2nd floor. The breakfast buffet was OK, but some hot food items were cold. You should add a microwave oven so guests can reheat cold food.

Overall the stay was pretty nice. The bed is SUPER soft, almost too soft. The fan in our bathroom didn’t work either.

Nice to have parking across street - the AC in the room never went off no matter how low we set the temperature plus the one AC vent blows directly onto the bed directly where you sleep

The staff were friendly and they tried their best. Unfortunately we checked in in the evening around 8pm and there was only one person working the front desk so it took a while to get our keys. The rooms were spacious but old. The sofa had lots of stains and furniture looked dated.

Nice atmosphere, convenient location, we were able to easily and safely walk to the Chrysler Hall for a show and a nearby restaurant. It would’ve been perfect until we went to sleep and the mattress was hard as a rock, the bedding was paper thin, and being on the second floor facing the Blvd the noise was terrible and kept us up most of the night (sirens, loud cars, people walking by late at night) there was constantly some sort of noise. Next time I would request an interior room facing the alley or a higher floor perhaps.

The staff was great, and overall the room was nice. However, compared to the other Residence Inns that I have stayed in, the kitchen was a bit understocked w/ essential items. No trash can for the kitchen, just one small one in the bathroom, one pot, a hodgepodge of forks, knives, spoons. No water container, no ice and ice maker didn't work. Small things but it's why I usually choose Residence Inn over other suite hotels when available. I tend to make most of my food (or heat it up) when I travel, and the lack of kitchen utensils, etc. made that a bit more challenging. Other than that it was a very nice facility and I would recommend it to travelers to Norfolk. Also walkable to many and varied dining establishments, and a cute neighborhood w/ beautiful old homes to walk around.

Although the staff was very friendly and professional, their keycard system kept having issues. We got locked out of our hotel room on multiple occasions and had to get new keys made. The staff was aware of this issue and was willing to fix keys as needed. We’ve not run into a single bad employee there, a very well managed property.

DeDe is amazing! You'll never have a bad breakfast with her on shift. All the other staff were helpful and accommodating as well. Great place to stay!

The AC was broken on my first night, and the customer service was terrible, completely unattended. Every time we ask for a simple task it was a problem and attitude.

Very friendly staff, easy check in and check out process. Parking was easy.

The front desk staff was wonderful!!

I paid for my son to stay here as he had an important audition the next day. He woke to find there was NO WATER in his room and the entire hotel. He could not shower, wash, brush teeth or flush the toilet. The front desk kept telling him the water would be on soon but ot never came on. The last time he called the front desk they told him he should have water in his room, though he sid not. When he checked out they offered NO COMPENSATION. I cant belive I paid $190 for my son to have a hotel room with no water. I will never stay at any Marriott affiliated hotel again. Unbelievable they would treat paying guests so poorly

Staff was excellent at check in

No soap in the room. Front desk said they'd send some up. Never arrived. I go out for 3 hours and on my way in, i visit the front desk. Here's how that conversation went: Hi, i called earlier about how there was no soap in my room. Female employee looks thru a drawer and says they don't have any. A male employee said the housekeeping manager has the key and maybe she didn't order more. Me: so is that the deal? There's just no soap? Male: yeah that's the deal. No resolution offered. Barely apologetic - as if it's cool for an 8 story hotel to not have a single bar of soap available for guests. I'll never stay here again.

The location was convenient to the arena and all the waterside attractions in downtown Norfolk. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was very good. The staff was amazing. Brett was outstanding, friendly and attentive. He was always busy helping other guests and helping clean up during breakfast. All in all, the stay was exceptional.

Traveling by myself, I was not pleased with having to park across the street from the hotel and there was an additional cost to the parking since I would need to come and go a few times. Additionally, in the evening/night there were quite a number of emergency vehicles passing by making it difficult to get to/stay asleep. For the amount I paid for the room, this is quite disappointing.

Location is great. Went for an ODU event and was very easy to enjoy downtown and easy to travel back and forth from the campus.

We were only there for one night. The place was lovely, but there were some maintenance issues with the shower and the bathroom sink. Staff was responsive to our requests. Breakfast was excellent. It took us 3 passes and a call to the hotel to figure out how to get to the entrance.

I love staying here. It is so close to everything I love about Norfolk. I can walk to everything sooooo easily. Having a full kitchen is very helpful, too!

I selected this hotel for being near the area we had meducal appointments. Parking was available at no cost. Room had an excellent layout and comfortable. Will stay again.

Convenient location

Check in was a breeze. Our room was on the 2nd floor. Clean room. Location was convenient to everything we could want/need. Staff was super friendly.

I was in Norfolk for a convention - one of the reasons I booked the Residece Inn is because of the breakfast buffet and I timed my morning so that I could have a substantial meal before my all-day event. When I arrived at the buffet at 7:30 am there was no hot food other than bread for the toaster, and no plates. I thought at the very least I could have yogurt and a coffee but there wasn't any coffee made. When I went back to my room to use the coffee maker there, I discovered that there was no carafe. I didn't have time to call down and ask for one since I had to leave so I found a coffee shop on my way to my event. It made for a stressful morning. In addition to this I had to return to the front desk twice after finding that my room key had stopped working. The first time they simply reactivated the key and the second time I was told that the problem must be that I was keeping my room key in the same pocket as my phone. This is the first time that's ever been the case at any hotel I've stayed at, Residence Inn or otherwise, so I have to believe that the fault lies with the equipment. The person at the front desk acted as though this was a common problem, so if that's true then guests should be informed of that at check-in. Also, I was handed a small bag of Hershey's Kisses when I checked in, and there were no bottles of water in my room. I'd much prefer to have a free water than some candy when I get to a hotel.

I really couldn’t wait to do this review. I have stayed at Residence Marriotts before, this hotel room was a hot mess! For one the shower curtain was stained and ripped at the top on one side, and the other side was just stained along with the bathtub being chipped. Also it was very difficult to take a shower in that bathtub its a hazard to a senior! My fiancé slipped inside n felled out while trying to enter the tub. He hurt the rgt side of his shoulder. A really bad slip n slide situation when you’re in the shower bathing. There’s nothing on that tub floor to grap your feet on & the porcelain is extremely slippery. That’s the biggest health and safety issue in that room. It’s a shame when you can’t get fresh face towels along with the regular towels. On day one We asked for a coffee pot that was missing, to which We never received one. I had to go downstairs every morning to get coffee for Us. We were there for five nites n days this was by far the worst Marriott hotel I have ever stayed in. I don’t want to leave out the breakfast that comes with your stay. That was the worst breakfast in history of my traveling days. The fruit came fresh from a can, so it tasted like it. The eggs & potatoes were bland with no seasoning n a tad bit over cooked because they were hard. It all went straight into the trash! The only things on that plate the was decent was the Canadian bacon and sausage.(all pork) Nothing for non pork eaters.We put waters in the fridge half the pack froze.

Everyone was really friendly and helpful, especially Dee Dee. Great breakfast, too!

Great hotel. Quiet location. Great included breakfast. Friendly front counter staff and breakfast area staff. Large room with full sized fridge and microwave. TV rotates for viewing from table and bed.
