Riu Emerald Bay - All Inclusive

The service was fantastic, and the food was great. however, the facilities are nowhere near, but the picture show. The beach is dirty crowded very noisy and the facilities are mediocre. The spa is terrible and so is the gym.

This hotel was awesome!! The room was great with a gorgeous view. The staff and service was excellent!! The food was amazing!! With 3 a la carte restaurants, 2 buffets and a beach grill, there were grest choices! The beach was incredible with fun waves for boogie boarding. The pools looked like a lot of fun, but we love hanging out on the beach. We took our own sun shades since the palm trees on the beach did not give enough shade. Add beach palapas!! Only 2 negatives; - the elevators were awful. Even though there were 4 of them at our end of the hotel, they would often bypass our floor. We had to wait for 5-10 minutes sometimes. - at around 2-3pm every day, private bands would set up on the public beach in front of the hotel. Even one would take away from the amazing serenity of the beach, but there were usually 3-7 bands within a few hundred yards of each other, almost competing with each other. We could even hear them in our room and would turn on the tv to drown out the noise. The hotel posts a disclaimer in the lobby and on the website about it being out of their control because it is a public beach, but it is the only reason we would not go back. So sad to say because we absolutely love everything else!!!

Plenty of pools very clean. Food was good. Lots of options shoulder season definitely the best time to travel there.

Great staff and location. Food can get repetitive and booking the al a cartes can be frustrating with the app. It’s not clear when the next day becomes available or whether certain restaurants are just closed certain days. The hotel is vertical so most guests will use the elevators. There are eight of them but at peak times the wait can be long. Using the stairs can be quite a time saver if you’re up for it.

The property itself was very nice and the staff was great. The nightly shows were fantastic! There were just some key maintenance issues that stood out - elevator call buttons not working, exercise equipment worn out/broken, etc.

property was not as kept up as should have been loose tiles cracks etc. As a matter of fact during our stay in our room on the 15th floor one day it sounded like an earthquake happened,when we looked outside the balcony tiles are creaking and moving and popping up.Very scary we went down and asked to be relocated! Also the elevators are extremely slow in the older building and dining options are not very good. Almost impossible to get reservations in the 3 specialty restaurants! We are longterm customers of the Rio hotel chain and this one was the most disappointing. Bright note some of the staff was amazing especially chef Jonathan and Paola at the front desk!

We enjoyed the children’s area with water activities and the bigger water slides for my older daughters. The service was excellent and great variety of beverages and food.

The place it’s beautiful. Big enough to accommodate the amount of people who visit; however having to wait in line of over 10-15 people for a drink should be improved by adding more accessible “bar” stations across the hotel.

Overall, the stay was great. The biggest issue we had was the room. when we first arrived our room was filthy. Stained sheets, dirty floors, strange stains on the wall. They kinldy gave us another room, but it was only a little better. The rooms desperately need deep cleaned as the walls and woodworking are filthy and grimy. Other than that, service is great and staff is super nice. Food was alright, not the best.

Food was excellent and there was literally always someone cleaning the floors. It was spotlessly clean. Lots of pools to choose from, and a nice sandy beach. The water is too rough for ocean swimming, but good for a long stroll down the beach. Our room in the tower was large and really quiet.

Room was spotless every day, with a bonus towel animal.

The entire hotel is kept spotless. Very efficient and friendly staff. Cleanup is ongoing throughout the day and night.

This is a large, nice-looking hotel from the outside. Bellmen were helpful at arrival, but check-in was a mess—long lines and no order. Only four small, hot elevators for a huge property felt unsafe. Rooms were basic and damp. The beds were horrible—uncomfortable and hard to sleep on. Minibar and liquor bottles were empty. Requests for towels and coffee took over an hour. Thin walls—you hear everything. Buffets were overcrowded and unsanitary. We even saw a roach crawling up a curtain, and the staff just brushed it off. No one was cleaning the food stations. The pools weren’t better. One of my daughters saw a small child poop in the pool—not just pee, but actual poop. They told a staff member and no one came to clean it. It was disgusting. They had to leave and find another pool on their own. No supervision, no action taken. The on-site theater was hot and humid with no AC. The beach is pretty but unsafe—strong waves, not kid-friendly. The hotel is also far from everything—about 35–40 minutes from town. You’ll need a taxi at night. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the kids enjoyed the variety of pools. But overall, the hotel is dirty, mismanaged, and not worth the money. I strongly recommend staying at an Airbnb closer to el centro or in Zona Dorada. I won’t be back.

NO air conditioning in restaurants, lobby, hallways. Utter chaos in common areas. Packed lobby, doors held open 24/7. Open hallway windows - no screens or fall protection for kids. Flies on the food inside the restaurants! Food left out on corridors for guest's convenience full of flies. Kids & adults grabbing food with hands, tasting food & putting it back. Same food every day. Dinner reservations offer the same buffet food with 2-4 different dinner plates. No shrimp. 1 guest had food poisoning. Bedbugs in 2 of 3 rooms. Mildew on balcony curtains. Filthy spa. No internet. Broken refrigerator & safe. Excessive wait on elevators and no bell sound, so they were missed. Remote w/ corroded batteries, missing tv remote. No personal log-in to Netflix / Prime. Laundry service returned everything wrinkled. Bathtub/shower dangerously slippery. 1 keyed pool towel per guest, if lost $15 charge. No air-conditioning or cross ventilation in the entertaining building; left open in sweltering humidity. Outdoor bartenders continually ran out of drinks. Outdoor food by pool was swarmed with flies and smoke. Food left by the pool had birds eating it. Tile around a pool area - dangerously slippery. Outside music at night could be heard inside the room. Sheets were dingy, pillows smelled. The employees were great, hard working. Management does not know how to run a 1000+ room hotel. Might have been great when first opened - now rundown. Appears it's all about profit at employees & guests' expense

No me volvería a quedar ahí. La playa es muy bonita, pero como la ciudad es sumamente insegura es de quedarte en el todo incluido todo el día. Es imposible sacarle provecho al todo incluido porque el servicio es terrible, no llevan bebidas ni alimentos a albercas o playa, debes hacer fila en el bar para que te sirvan algo o fila en el restaurante para comer. Las habitaciones remodeladas son muy bonitas y en general las instalaciones tienen potencial, pero está incómodamente lleno de personas, lleno de moscas y con aroma a larva y putrefacción. Las albercas llenas de insectos muertos flotando y cuando pedía a staff del hotel que si lo limpiaban claro que no. El único restaurante abierto a la hora de la comida no tiene clima, entonces es comer entre moscas y calor. Las bebidas de mala calidad y sabor, la comida apenas comestible en los buffet. Imposible reservar en los restaurantes para cenar porque desde que llegamos ya estaban full las reservaciones. Tiene unos toboganes y área infantil muy divertidos para los niños, y la zona de la playa es limpia y con mar seguro. En general el hotel tiene potencial, pero está terriblemente administrado. El staff trata de hacer su mejor esfuerzo, todos con muy bonita actitud, pero no dan a basto con tanta gente.

I have stayed at the Riu in Los Cabos and Nuevo Vallarta and I enjoyed everything about my stay so I decided to give Mazatlan a try. This was is a little out dated it is clean but the bathrooms really need to be updated the tub is extremely tall hard to get into. I can not imagine how hard it would be on older people. My biggest problem was that the elevators were not always working properly. The wait was just terrible and no air conditioner in the elevators when you finally got one because everyone wanted to get on it. The staff was friendly. The buffets had a variety of food something for everyone. The specialty restaurants were just ok. Our favorite was the Mexican one. We did enjoy the adults only pool. I believe if it wasn’t for the elevator situation I would return but to me it is a big deal we were on the 6th floor and we had to climb the stairs several times I can not imagine being top floors with the warm weather. It is also not high season so I don’t even want to find out what happens then.

Rooms smell musty and mildewy. The food is excellent and the staff are amazing. For a 5 star resort I was disappointed that they didn’t have Don Julio tequila.

The rooms are nice,the only comment I have about the room is the tub shower combination.once you get in the into it and close the shower curtain it’s totally dark and the anti slip on the tub needs to be redone . I did slip but managed to save my self from falling. This hotels biggest strength is their people , everyone was consistently friendly,helpful and did their jobs regardless of the language barrier ( I don’t speak Spanish) I was impressed with every team member I encountered and would return again. I had a really good time.

Our room was a bit run down and musty. Stains around the ceiling vents/fan and in the tub/shower area. Otherwise, cleaning staff were excellent and overall cleanliness very good. Rooms could use an upgrade soon.

Suite was clean and comfortable (a little outdated). Staff was superior. Amenities and food fabulous. Only criticism is there’s no adult pool so lots of kids in all 5 pools

We were put in a poor room. We paid for ocean view. They changed us to an “upgraded room.” It was worse than the first room. The fans for the hotel were located to the right of our room. The front view was another part of the hotel. Third time was the charm. Ocean view room. We had to ask to get beer put in our fridge. We also had to ask for coffee. The buffet was good. It was almost impossible to get into the other restaurants. We tried making reservations on the app. Didn’t work. We had to go to the front dest at 7 in the morning so we could book a table at the other restaurants. You could only book a restaurant that day. Seems like a poor system to me. The RIU was too far out of the way. The beaches were nice there. The only adult pool, had a ton of bees around the bar area. A lot of people got bee stings. It was a crazy amount. That pool area aside from the bees was the cleanest pool. The other pools had a lot of families. Not very clean areas. We wouldn’t stay there again.

Everything was good, exept the elevators took to long, the A/C in our room was not working to good, and the room needed handyman touch ups. Other then that i would visit again in a couple of years.

This property was very clean and the staff was amazing! We had Fonsesco as our waiter for lunch and dinner. Find him in the buffets he will look after you! I used the app to request services for our room (extra pillows and blankets) and they were delivered promptly. I would definitely recommend staying at this property.

Our room was not available at 3pm when we were told was the check in. The lady that gave out room keys was extremely rude and stated check in is any time after 3 so we didn’t get a room until about 4. The wait to get drinks by the pool is extremely long. We also were never able to get a reservation because the app never worked for us.

The place was awesome 💯 but the problem was we got robbed in our room while we were out we had some cash in our luggage bag and it was gone when we came back an all they told us at customer service that they weren't responsible for that 😭

The staff is friendly, attentive, and they go out of their way to accommodate requests. We had an amazing experience

We were very impressed with Riu Emerald Bay, the hotel was clean, staff were very good and the food and food options were excellent. The only comment I would make is that the housekeeping staff did not replenish our suite coffee and condiments daily, or bottled water. Had to contact the front desk and get those items replenished. Not sure why this is?

Tiene sus cosas buenas y malas. Comida y bebidas bien para lo que es en cantidad esta bueno. Pero si ya esta sobrepasada la cantidad de gente a lo que puede atender el personal. Es poco personal para la cantidad de huesoedes. por ejemplo en barra hasta 1 hora para poder servirte un trago 1 HORA. Y las instalaciones ya estan dando el viejaso.

Sin duda una excelente opcion para quedarte en mazatlán si tienes plan tranquilo ya que esta lejos de la zona dorada (malecon) sin embargo el servicio instalaciones es genial, solo que la barra es sumamente económica botellas de no mas de 150 pesos en el super literal tu mejor opcion es tomar cerveza o llevar tu botella preferida

Overall a great destination for families. The entertainment options are limited but you can always take a taxi into the city.

Great beach vacation. The propery is great and the staff were excellent. Good live entertainment in the evening. The pool and food service were great. Felt very comfortable and secured. Will surely look into coming back to this place.

We had a perfect view of the ocean. The building is big but a little old. The food was okay, it's all inclusive, so not great. The pools were good and clean. Staff were courteous and attentive. Now the bad: not enough elevators for the amount of people, so you will wait a while to go up and down. There isn't much to do within walking distance and it is far from all of the attractions, so you will need to catch a ride or drive a good 35-45 min to get into town. 350 to 500 pesos each way, so it gets expensive to get around. If you are staying at the hotel and not doing much outside of the hotel, then it's good, otherwise, stay somewhere not all inclusive near the Malecon area, so you can explore and eat better food.

First time staying at a Riu and was definitely impressed! Very clean overall, staff was super friendly and helpful the entire trip. The only thing that I didn’t like was how out of the way it felt. Didn’t feel unsafe or anything but just kind of farther away from the busier parts, which I didn’t mind much since there’s no need to leave the resort if you don’t need to! First time coming to Mazatlan and will definitely be back!

Staff were very kind and hospitable. Food was very disappointing, although the drinks were always good. Loved the activities that were offered especially the pool volleyball and beach volleyball. Loved that the staff tried to include many visitors in the activities. It would have been nice to have a free shuttle or something to nearby restaurants or food as it is very far away from town.

Great location, friendly staff, you dont have to leave the resort if you didn't want to everything is there.

My main complaint is the low quality alcohol served; food was average and repetitive; very crowded place with full elevators, lines to eat, noisy.

Overall Friendly waiters and very attentive during our breakfast and dinner. Housekeeping is the best too, we always go back to the room clean and tidy. We love the area for being safe and quiet. But on our 2nd and 3rd day, me and my husband ate tacos by Pepe's food and we suspect we had food poisoning. We stop eating the tacos and we feel better. Then again on our last full day at the resort during lunchtime my husband grab tacos again for our lunch, and uhhh terrible cos after few hours we feel bad with our stomach again and lots of throwing up. In one of our dinner my daughter was eating caesar salad when was about to add cheese she saw a mold. She told me that there's mold on the shredded cheese and reported it to the waiter immediately, I guess they replace them with a new one (hope not just removed the molds thats on top).

This is the worst hotel I’ve ever been they charge you for anything and everything food is always the same is not variety not Mexican food they don’t have any seafood even though is a beach hotel, is no ROOM SERVICE which is stupid right beer is hot so to anyone trying to get a hotel in Mazatlan I recommend you to go to PUEBLO BONITO is 100 percent better than this. Riu hotel is not worth it don’t go is expensive but you are paying for nothing good. Your welcome.

I ended up with food poisoning the 3rd day we were there. Not the first time I've had a bad reaction to spinach, so very familiar with what it feels like. We never left the property, which was really nice. The beach was great. Weather was really mild for January. Would possibly stay again, but avoid raw foods.

All the wait staff in the restaurants were great as well. The only things we did not like about this Riu is how hard it was to get reservations at the a la carte restaurants. We were there a whole week and were only able to eat at one of them. The app reservations never showed up all days were booked up. Other than that this is a great place in Mazatlan.

The food was mediocre! Everyday for lunch we set in a hot dining area with flies everywhere even on the food and it was disgusting.
