Close to York, clean and tidy accommodation. Staff friendly. Good breakfast . Parking is via permit £5 a day which was not aware of prior to arrival.

Very convenient location just a few minutes walk outside Bootham Bar. Parking was on street and cost £5 per day for a permit ( arranged by owner on arrival). Double en suite room was comfortable and clean, and great for a 3 night stay. It was room G1 ( shown in picture of hotel on site - the two windows directly on the street on the ground floor. ) it was unbearably warm, June during warm weather- no heating on) and we felt unable to open the windows for two reasons. - the secondary double glazing was excellent and kept out all noise from the busy street- if you opened the secondary glazing the actual window was a sash opening from the bottom up, and we weren’t comfortable this was would be secure to leave open at street level. Breakfast arrangements were odd - you had to pick a time to eat ( in advance) and then have the same time every day. You also chose your breakfast choice in advance and had the same every day unless you notified them of a change. A bit Fawlty Towers and archaic. However, I think it’s because the dining room had less tables than number of guests so they had to be staggered. Staff were lovely, everything was clean, location was excellent for walking in and out of York, endless tea and coffee in room, topped up as often as you wanted. Would stay here again

I enjoyed my stay, greeted by a very friendly and welcoming owner who was able to provide a full overview and recommendations for York. Car Parking was easy and cost just £5 a day which I thought was reasonable for the on street permit. Although this did seem limited on a first come first served basis. Room was basic but had all the necessary amenities, it looked like it had a recent refurbishment. Bed was comfortable. Only issue was the noise from the room. The room is next to reception and so there was noise bleed from the tad loud sound system (not a problem during bed times). The road noise was significant although the owners had kindly provided disposable ear buds in the room if needed. I was fine - but one to watch. Overall would stay here again.

Clean quiet property easy walking distance to the Minster, Shambles, shops, the wall. Parking is via pass from guest house.

Helpful host, good breakfast and ideally situated. Parking on the road next to guest house, permit available through host. Only downside was the room and bathroom were very small, with a sloping roof. Having said that we would go back, just ask not to have that room.

This place is walking distance to the city centre. Room was clean and breakfast was amazing! Friendly staff. We were able to park next to the hotel by purchasing parking permit from hotel staff.

Great location - this property is only a short walk away from the historic old city of York. There's nothing fancy here, but it's safe and host, Jason, was welcoming and informational. Parking was very easy and close to the property.

Basic guest house within walking distance of mainline railway and city centre attractions. Great value for money. Brilliant staff, welcoming, very kind and helpful, Only downsides- traffic noise (secondary glazing helped) and lots of stairs. There were downstairs rooms but the dining room is upstairs which would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues.

Location was great. That’s about where the positives end. Booking said we would get breakfast but on arrival we were told that’s no longer an option. The site said permit parking was available, so I presumed we’d be on street parking however on arrival we were told to squeeze the car into a small space (driveway) behind the property, still paying for the privilege. We got the vibe from the check in person that they were more interested in rushing to get us checked in so we could leave them to it and therefore weren’t particularly helpful. The room when we got into it looked absolute NOTHING like the photos - may as well have been a different hotel. The photos made it look nice and modern, when in reality it was much more run down. The bathroom had mould on the walls and all around the bath. Also lots of small hairs left in the bath when we arrived, from a previous guest. We tried to make the most of it and headed off out for the evening to enjoy our night away but then when we returned we had the worst nights sleep we’ve ever had. People walking round on creaky floors kept us awake, not to mention the consistent banging of the windows caused by the wind. I know you can’t help the weather but the provisions to keep the wind out were awful and kept us awake all night. The bed myself was very hard too, which made it an uncomfortable sleep. Advert said premium bedding - it was not premium. All in all, the place was cheap and the location was great. Everything else was very poor.

Me and my mum had a lovely stay here. Mo was very welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. Our room was spotless, coffee/tea making facilities, and very comfy beds!

We had to leave the property after the first night and relocate as the room was full of Mould and no better/suitable rooms available I was refunded easily enough but our room should not have been let in the first instance in this condition, it was grim.

The room was at the top of the house with a sloping roof above head board.. The booking stated free breakfast but was told kitchen was out of order.. only to fibd breakfast was served for some guests .. shower had black mould and bedroom had paper coming off the walls

Lovely old building and room. There was some mold in the bathroom. The breakfast was good; you have to eat at the same time every day. The location was excellent and the building was secure.

Check was easy and good, room has a few issues. Damp bed, duvet due to lack of airing in cold room. Bed side lamp did not work. Heating was controlled by owner only coming on for a short period in the morning and evening. A portable heater was in the room but not capable of heating the whole room. Shower had poor water pressure and kept going hot and cold when pressure dropped further. Good cooked breakfast set and on time. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room. The room looked recently refurbished except the bathroom which was tired.

The room was comfortable but rather small not very much storage for clothes etc i dont think it had been hovered for several weeks lots of bits on the floor and a lot of cobwebs around the room

It is a short walk to the city centre and train station so an excellent location. I would recommend staying here and we will certainly return next time we are in York.

Jason and his staff are class. Unfortunately the room is rather small and very dusty. The bed is very old and uncomfortable, staying awake until 3am and thinking about booking another hotel for the next night kind of uncomfortable. The breakfast was very enjoyable.

A nice stay for a short time, and breakfast was lovely. But my room was in the attic and was incredibly small (as a solo traveller I am used to quite small rooms). The TV did not work which was not a problem but still worth noting. There were a lot of stairs and thankfully the staff helped me with my bags, but only after asking a few times. Good location though.

Very good welcome from Jason, but because of the angle of the ceiling (the eaves at the top of the building) we were unable to sit up in bed. Breakfast well prepared and parking very useful. Good value for money but would ask not to be in room 9 or 10!’

Bed was too hard and low, pillows bumpy or flat, duvet too heavy so didn't get a good night sleep. Door frame doesn't fit frame so all night could see the landing light this never got switched off. Was in a room with low ceiling, bumped my head at least 3 times, stopped counting. I am only 5ft! TV doesn't work, and finally the shower is too small can't turn around to wash never mind swing a cat. Shower was warm then suddenly very cold. This guest house needs a lot of attention to sort it out. Only good thing it's quite and in a good location. Sorry I wouldn't come back here

Small room, small bath but overall clean. Need some maintenance. No luggage racks nowhere to put anything. It’s fine if you need a place to sleep for a night. The location was really great, walkable to York.

On a main road so traffic noise, nice walking distance into York. Bed collapsed so I think new bed would be a bonus as uncomfortable, nice hosts and breakfast to start the day.

Great location for the walled city of York; street parking is available for £5 and the host can arrange it through the city, so be sure to ask in advance. A reconfigured older property, so the rooms are a bit smallish - think cruise ship inside cabin. A bit dated and mostly clean, although the smallish shower could use a deep cleaning. No full time staff on premises, but the host is a phone call away; you can get supplies in the morning from kitchen staff. There are instructions on how to turn on the shower - follow them ! Breakfast food and service was great - fully cooked and gets you started for the day. Covid protocols are still being observed esp for breakfast, but that’s not such a bad thing, so please be patient and understanding (no buffet, staggered meal times, etc)

Location is spot on and for me the room size and breakfast were ideal but they are both on the small side. TV and bathroom light didn't work and shower was not very good at pressure or temperature. I don't think it quite deserves it's price tag

This cost me £190 for 2 nights, absolute rip off when I saw the place and the room and the staff. First of all, I rang up and spoke to Jason explaining we would be 1 hour late after check in time due to work, on the phone Jason couldn’t care less he said that this was fine, on the day we were arriving Jason text me asking what time we would be arriving, again I said 10pm, his response then was ‘not ideal’. On arriving I called Jason letting him know we were at the door, he opened the door, looked us up and down didn’t even say anything and just stood to the side, my partner and I walked on and stood there as we didn’t know where to go, Jason then pointed and said ‘straight up the stairs’ very rude and abrupt. He then sat down and I just assumed we were sitting opposite him on the table, he then very rudely began asking me questions very bluntly, acting like I was thick. He made us feel extremely uncomfortable. If I knew the late check in would have been an inconvenience for him I would have found somewhere else however on the phone he had no problem with this. Awful service. He then told us we HAD to have breakfast at 8:45am, we had no choice in this because apparently that was the only time left… we had room 9 on the top floor, the room was tiny looks nothing like the pictures. Was not great. Breakfast wasn’t amazing either, cold toast, Girls doing breakfast were not welcoming. Only good thing was that everything was very close walking distance. Would not stay here again!!

The crescent hotel is close to the center of York, so everywhere is walkable. Mo our host was very pleasant and helpful and went over and above to make our stay pleasant.

We were greeted by the owner on arrival who had even messaged prior to our arrival to let us know our room was already ready! We received a warm welcome, our breakfast order was taken for the weekend (which was included in the price of the stay) and our virtual car parking permit was organised. The room was clean and had everything we could have needed. The location was just prefect, not even a 5 minute walk to reach the city centre. The breakfast on both days was perfection!!!!

We had a great stay at the Crescent Guest House. Location is excellent if you’re coming to York by train and want to explore multiple attractions. The staff were always extremely friendly and courteous. Although the building is a bit run down it served its purpose which was a place to stay while we explored York.

I found the bathroom very clean and the persons in charge very attentive. I forgot a dress in the bedroom and phoned them 3 or 4 days later, they confirmed for me they had kept it. When I picked it up one week later I found they had been very careful when keeping it. And I am very happy about it because shows attention to detail and consideration.

Great stay at The Crescent, lovely welcome, free parking sorted easily, without fuss, comfortable bed, perfect location for York, walked to the centre in 10 minutes, went to shows at York Barbican which was about a 30 minute walk, but stopped off at a pub half way so all good 😁 Breakfast was amazing, really fills you up for the day, I'd definitely come back !

Jason and his staff were absolutely accomodating. Things could not have been better!

Central location with an easy walk to all the sights

Certainly can't fault my stay here. Friendly staff at teception and the room was clean, tidy and comfortable with all the amenities needed for my stay. The crescent is situated 5 minutes from York centre making it's location perfect.

The Crescent Guest House was very good. It was in a very good area, close to many attractions in York as also to restaurants and cafes, especially Bettys Tea Room!!! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I will go back to the Crescent Guest House when I plan to go to York again in the near future. Robert Reid.

A clean comfortable stay close to the centre of York. Breakfast was well cooked and staff pleasant and polite. They messaged us in advance to let us know that our room was ready allowing us to book in early.

This place is a great spot! I would definitely stay there again. It is walking distance to the train and also to all the tourist sites. (About 15 mins for train and tourist sites) buses also right outside. Lots of places around to dine and a cute, delicious bakery right beside! The breakfast included is also fantastic.

Greta location, 10-15 mins walk into the city centre. Very warm welcome from the chap at the hotel. Couldn’t do enough for us. Room was spotless, tea and coffee facilities. Hotels.com advertise a free breakfast but they don’t do this anymore. Not an issue for us but could probably be updated. Slight noise from other rooms and the street but the hotel provide earplugs and the windows have an extra screen to try and keep noise out. If street noise really bothers you, don’t book a hotel on a main road. Would stay here again 100%. Thank you to the team!

Very friendly and flexible . We were welcomed to leave suitcases early before check in time and leave them after check out time . Clean and comfortable and great location. Needed to provide breakfast time , night before and also what our menu choices were night before . Minimal choice for breakfast but excellent all the same . No self service options but didn’t deter from the experience . Basic but comfortable and clean . What more could you want !

A fantastic location close to the center, we were made to feel welcome from the start despite arriving later than expected. A filling breakfast cooked by kevin with a good choice of food ,juices, tea or coffee. A nice welcome at breakfast by all staff. Rooms were spotlessly clean and of a decent size. We came up for the York marathon… this guest house is 16 min walk from the trains station, quick and simple to check in, room was spacious, nicely maintained and the en suite was too. Breakfast was delicious and served promptly xxx this little gem is hassle free was extremely nice staff.
