The staff are excellent. From check-in to check-out and at dinner and breakfast they were very friendly and attentive. The hotel is a few hundred years old and can be forgiven a few blemishes -the bedroom windows show signs of rot and need replacing, but it is still elegantly traditional. Dinner was very good I had fillet of beef and my wife a rack of lamb - both cooked to perfection. Then tempted by excellent dessert. The bathroom was nice, but there were no foam bath oils, although the hotel booklet mentioned a spa luxury bath. There were just bulk-fill bottles of general purpose soap and conditioner which I would expect in a two star hotel. There was also no light over the bathroom mirror and the hairdrier cord was too short to enable one to sit at the dressing table and dry hair. There are nice areas of grass, inside and outside the grounds, to walk the dog.

The family who own the hotel were excellent hosts. Food was exceptional. Loved the old manor house with its slightly unraven floors amd squeeks all which I expect from a period property. Rooms were clean and bright. Nice grounds where you can sit with your glass of wine and if you require any information on wine choice, Alan, one of the owners is extreemly well versed in this field. When I travel to the North East the Hardwicke Manor Hotel near Hartlepool is where I will stay. Colin McCallum
