Hampton Inn Richmond - South

The hotel is very convenient for a stopover when traveling I-95. It is also close to downtown Richmond & the breakfast offered many options. We were traveling with our dog and selected this hotel because the website says “pet friendly”. it is for an additional $75 fee. The desk told us it is stated on the site. Well, we finally did find it buried in the text of the website. We are aware that many hotels charge a fee, but it is always stated clearly upfront on the website. And $75 is a bit stiff for a pet fee. The only other small problem is they only have 2 large luggage racks which apparently are locked up at night., so we had to make multiple trips with a small one because the large ones were never available. So if you’re not traveling with a pet & you don’t have a lot of luggage, it’s a good stopover.

Great customer service. I only wish for more breakfast options and have one of the elevators working. It was hard for me carrying my baby and my dog because of the elevator situation.

Overall a very good property. Parking lot is very small. The is an additional parking area but there were 3-4 people living out of their cars parked in that area. Also the property has 2 elevators but only one working. Working elevator was very slow. Employees were great, bed was comfortable and free hot brwakfast was right on time.

There were a couple of lights out in the parking lot. This was concerning for safety reasons. Staff was great. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. The hallway by the elevator was not clean.

Pool had no water, internet very poor connectivity.

Nicolas checked us in with no issue, fast, and efficiently. Everything was effortless including him ensuring whether or not I was a reward member or not, which I wasn't sure, but I was, which was a plus! The room was clean! The pool and exercise rooms were open and ready to be used and the breakfast was killer in the best way!!!! Only place I'll stay from now on!

Very convenient location but the side doors near parking lot didn't work.

I was traveling from South Carolina to South Jersey for a funeral. I decided to stop in Richmond, VA, since it was halfway. It was VERY close to 95 and I thought it would be a good place to stay. Well….. I was wrong. On my stay going to NJ, I was on the 4th floor and only one elevator was working and the other was so slow, even the door was not opening properly and it made me nervous. Then there were people yelling in the hallways at 1:00 am. Doors were slamming. Not good ! In the morning I woke to the sounds of tractor trailers revving up and down the street. On my return trip 3 days later it was worse. The elevator was still not fixed and there was so much noise in the hallway I could barely sleep. Then the noise from the road was so much louder because I was in the second floor. Also, there are no restaurants close by except for a Subway and Starbucks. My advice… find something further from 95 or bring some serious ear plugs!

Fire alarm set off at 130am. Cigarette butts everywhere outside and they are pet friendly. The room was not very clean whatsoever.

The room was weirdly damp. The dampness stayed in the air even with the A/C on. There was definitely an undertone of the smell of dog. Kind of gross.

Very old building, not clean, rude staff, sub standard breakfast. there was two old women trying to check in, there was no support for them to carry their luggage to the room. I only did it. Breakfast was awful, when we asked for milk, the reply was just "NO milk". no courteous tone at all Not worth for 110$ plus.

First room had a bed bug. Second room wasn’t clean and seemed like it may have also been infested at some point. Third room seemed fine. The beds were comfortable. Small fitness room without working AC. I asked about it in the morning and it was still 80 degrees and stifling by evening. I wouldn’t stay here again

This hotel was just fine for a one night stay with our pet. The front desk staff could be friendlier, they didn’t seem happy and we received grunted responses to questions. The breakfast area staff was very friendly. The room was clean and orderly.

A/C was not very well circulating or strong enough in our room. The overall condition of the room was a bit dated. Staff were kind and helpful

An aging Hampton Inn, dirty and worn down. Was nearly empty still they put us up in the one room with the window blocked by part of the building. Staff seemed unhappy. Beds were all bent out of shape. Why such good reviews on Expedia? This place is terrible.

This property is outdated and needs to be renovated. And the walls are super thin to the point where I could hear the couple next to me having sexy time at 6am. I heard way more than I wanted to hear. They did get quiet after I banged on the wall, but I should never heard anything in the first place

Check in was fantastic Nay was very sweet and friendly. We received immediate service. The room was perfect for our needs. However, at 1:30 am the fire alarm went off. We were on the 5th floor and attempted to call numerous times for guidance from the front desk since the alarm shut off after less than a minute. I was hung up on three times before the night clerk answered the phone. While I do understand this would be a high stress moment, answering the call the first time instead of picking up the phone and hanging up and providing us with info would have alleviated me calling back. Her telling me the alarm went off, (which we were already alerted to) yet not answering my question of do we need to evacuate immediately only caused more confusion. I had to reiterate my reason for calling before she stated there was no need to leave our room. Upon check out nothing was mentioned of the situation or even an apology for any inconvenience. Obviously it was difficult to go back to sleep after this. Minimal sleep makes for a rough travel day….better training of the overnight staff on how to handle an emergency situation is highly suggested. Had this not occurred my rating would be a 10. Breakfast was good, location quiet, room clean, check in good with no hassles.

Upon arriving a bit later in the evening, we checked in. The registration was easy and quick (since we did have a reservation). The desk attendant was sitting in the common area with another individual, watching a soccer game. I drove around the building 3 times looking for a parking spot. There were none, so I went back in and asked where to park. He told me to park way behind the starbucks building, in which I said no. He then told me to park in the handicap spot which I refused to do. I asked for my money back, which he then said he would move his car and let me park there. If it were not so late in the evening, I would have demanded my money back. We ended up staying, but we will not stay in Richmond again. There are clearly not enough parking spaces to accommodate all of the guests.

Check in experience: I cannot fathom how you can have the person at reception last night greeting weary travellers. We got in about midnight. She barely made eye contact. When i tapped my credit card for incidentals, she said it didn’t go through. That was odd to me but she made me do it several times, all declined by the machine. She said i couldn’t check in. Thankfully my travel companion used her card for the incidentals and it worked. When i got to the room and checked up on my CC issue, i confirmed my CC was well within limits and not comprised in any way. When i went back to reception to show her my card was fine and the room charge was already on it, she became extremely defensive , loud and argumentative vs helpful. Why? I was not accusing her of anything. I was simply showing her the charges on my cc. I assume this woman would have refused to check us in. I repeat, my CC was fine. I have to anticipate a problem with the CC machine. At this point it is 1 am and i am exhausted. The last thing i needed to deal with was this person’s attitude. I went back to my room frustrated and wound up. It took a long time fall asleep. We had to be up early to travel again so i did not get the rest i needed. I confirmed in the morning with reception that my CC was fine. The woman working in the morning was pleasant and smiling and confirmed everything was fine.

Front desk was not welcoming Definitely was still training but no enthusiasm at all forgot to ask for my ID the only words from him were insert your credit card And didn’t tell me anything else Now luckily I have stayed there before and I know the process and where things are Didn’t say have a nice stay or tell me what time breakfast was or anything! I had to ask for waters as a Hilton honors member just expected more I hope he gets better!

The hotel property was located in a convenient area off of I-95, however there was not much in terms of restaurants or shops very close. Also was advertised as close to the airport but was still a 20+ minute drive away. Facility was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Property was located close to the interstate and was in an area where you could eat and get gas.

The hotel was nice and quiet. It was very convenient right off of 95. I enjoyed how they would check in each day through text making sure everything was good.

I selected Hampton Inn- Richmond South during a snowstorm to reduce my commute to work. I trust the Hampton Inn brand as my job is NOT in a safe area 15 minutes away. This location was also selected because it was very close to the interstate, knowing only the interstate would be decently cleared at the height of the snowstorm (when my shift ended at work). I called ahead for a late check in and wanted to make sure my room was saved for me as I wouldn’t arrive until between midnight and one a.m. Erica helped me on the phone and said she would have it all taken care of- when I arrived shortly after 1 am, surely the Front Desk Receptionist saw Erica’s notes and that everything was ready for me. The Front Desk Receptionist was very nice and welcoming and I wish I had gotten her name. (Forgive me!) She was very empathetic about the weather and late night shift at my job. My room was immaculate and I rested worry-free knowing how close I was to work for my next shift. My normal commute is an hour and twenty minutes from a very rural area- it brought great peace of mind to me and my family that I could stay 15 minutes away in a safe area during inclement weather for work. There are several gas stations on this exit and a Starbucks and Subway are direct neighbors beside this Hampton Inn (parking lots connect). Thank you all!

Very good good breakfast

The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast had nice choices of scrambled eggs, sausage ,potatoes, waffles, juice , yogurt, etc. I would stop here again when in the area

Stayed here for a field hockey tournament my daughter was in and it was a really nice hotel. They had 2 waffle choices each morning which we enjoyed before heading out for the day. My daughter was tired from playing so she never went into the pool.
