Though a fair number of parking spots… not enough. We had to park on the street. The room was a bit odd. Only one chair and only one very small night table for two queen beds. Some electrical outlets didn’t work. Bathroom fan worked… when it wanted to. A fair room rate.

The room and bathroom were nice and clean. The bed comfortable with good linens. There's no coffee pot or microwave in the room but they have coffee in the lobby and a micro by the pool if needed. I would use this hotel again

Housekeeping did a great job and always serviced my room even when I got out late. Check in agents were all very nice. Only issue is that you can hear guest above you. The pool is heated which is nice but I didn’t get a chance to get in. I would come again.

I was happy with the room, it was clean, the beds were soft and comfortable. The room did not have a coffee machine, I went to the office to get some coffee, but they did not open until 8 am. If early morning coffee is a must have you will need to drive or walk to a coffee shop. i would stay here again despite the coffee issue.

This Sands is a very clean hotel with simple and functional furnishings and a great swimming pool! I found the pool a great place to get some sun and a quick swim. It is on the border of La Jolla, but about halfway between Pacific Beach and downtown La Jolla. The front desk, staff person, and all of the housekeeping and service staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed for 4th of july weekend. The room was everything we needed and we loved it! check in/out was super smooth and the staff was very nice. The location was perfect, super quiet and nice. A bunch of restaurants in a 5 minute walk radius. Cvs being right next door was also super convenient. Didn’t have any problems with noise, even being right by the pool. One thing i wished they did was give a parking pass, just to be able to secure a parking spot everyday. But when they ran out of parking, the staff was helpful and accommodating on other places to park

It is close to the Birdrock commercial area where we tried the highly regarded Wayfarer Bread, the Bird Rock Coffee Roaster shop, and an Italian restaurant. It was a quick drive to Harry’s for breakfast in La Jolla and discovered they have a parking lot behind the restaurant. Parking at the hotel was plentiful and at no cost, such a plus in San Diego. The hotel was quiet, though quite full.

Room itself was adequate, but there was a noticeable disinfectant type smell that permeated every time I entered the room. There was a smart mirror in the entry with a blue light which never went off (would advise a sleep mask). Found a cockroach on the floor my upon awakening the first morning. The real kicker was the motel charged my credit card for $8 after my departure. When I called the front desk clerk didn\'t know what it was for, and then said it was for a "damaged" towel. I had not damaged a towel. I informed her that I expected the charge to be removed or I would have my credit card remove the charge. She stated the manager would call me. I never received a call. My credit card corrected the charge. Seemed like a money grab technique and poor customer service.

The area was nice but the room grossed me out so bad. Just keep seeing pieces of other people’s hair everywhere (all kinds). In the bathroom, on the rug, in the bed. And the sheets felt musty & clammy. They need different sheets. It was hard for me to sleep comfortably in bed since it felt dirty so I could not sleep with the sheets on top of me. Not only that it just felt like a weird vibe in there and both me & my husband had a bad dream.

Had a great time. The room was super clean. My wife brings wipes on every trip so she can clean the place before settling in. There was no dirt/dust on the wet wipe because the room was spotless.

Great free Parking setup which is rare in La Jolla. Walking distance to the ocean as well as coffee shops and restaurants. Room was clean and the pool was nice. Only issue was the AC had a funky smell, probably needed the filters cleaned out.

Plenty of high quality cabinets/storage spaces. Black out curtains worked well. Plenty of USB outlets. Very nice furniture. Comfortable bed. Beautiful and well maintained balcony for seating. Gates with pass codes.

Only stayed one night. Checked in late and left early the next day. So I don't have much to say other than it was all good and I'd stay there again. Rooms are very clean, like other reviewers have said. There are a few smart devices in the room they emit light while sleeping, so if you prefer to sleep in a completely dark room, bring your eyeshades for sleeping.

This was a great little motel in La Jolla. It was clean and comfortable with several very good restaurants and coffee shops within easy walking distance. My only complaint was that you could easily hear guests in other rooms, especially those above us.

Great location, convenient to shops and restaurants, either within walking distance or a short drive away. Our top (3rd) floor room was perfect, with a lovely balcony for breakfast or just to sit in the evenings. We were there 2 nights, 3 days (Mon-Wed); don't know what weekends might be like. Staff were friendly and responsive. Fridge in room, but coffee/tea available only in hotel office, which doesn't open until 8 a.m. A microwave on a cart sits outside, 1 on each floor. Only 1 nightstand in room with king bed. Desk had automatic height adjuster, but sink was on the high side and the hangers in the closet were hard to reach for person 5 ft 4 in. Really nice shower. Definitely will visit again.

Clean, easy to walk to a few restaurants and beach. Rooms are very basic. Nice and clean. Could maybe use some wall pictures and definitely at least one full length mirror. Would be nice to have a coffee maker, but not a necessity. Would stay again and would recommend.

I have stayed at this property several times and it is a nice place to stay. It has been remodeled a few years ago and is very nice inside. The bed is very comfortable. There is a nice pool. My only complaint is that it closes at 10 PM. Is my personal belief that the pool should be open until the morning time. The place is a little bit more expensive than other local hotels and I did have noise issues with the person that was above me because they don’t have carpet which I think is something all hotel should have other than those little complaints. I would definitely stay there again.

Owner tried to charge me at checkout for not returning BOTH hotel keys. Not physical keys, but both plastic programmable room keys…🙈… the ones that no other hotel cares about… yeah those ones…front desk man said it’s because they cost money and have their logo on them… When I checked in was told they would charge a $200 security deposit and checked out and was told it was $100. Didn’t have time to argue or anything on paper so bad on me. Lastly, housekeeping was clearly unhappy and decided to make our bed but not change the sheets and leave the pillows messed up as well as not completely clean the showy - so we would know that they did it intentionally. Either that or they were lazy and are used to doing things halfway. They were visibly angry walking around the property and the people that work here are really the only part that made the stay not pleasant. It was unfortunate that the people were the worst part of this process because the facility is nice, it’s reasonably priced, remodeled, and in a good walkable location with free, easy parking. But the people made us want to never come back to this place and warn others so that they won’t have to waste money when there are many other options in town. That and hopefully the amount of money that this place loses by behaving in this way and having a subpar review will far exceed the cost of their room keys..
Owner tried to charge me at checkout for not returning BOTH hotel keys. Not physical keys, but both plastic programmable room keys…🙈… the ones that no other hotel cares about… yeah those ones…front desk man said it’s because they cost money and have their logo on them… When I checked in was told they would charge a $200 security deposit and checked out and was told it was $100. Didn’t have time to argue or anything on paper so bad on me. Lastly, housekeeping was clearly unhappy and decided to make our bed but not change the sheets and leave the pillows messed up as well as not completely clean the showy - so we would know that they did it intentionally. Either that or they were lazy and are used to doing things halfway. They were visibly angry walking around the property and the people that work here are really the only part that made the stay not pleasant. This Sands is a very clean hotel with simple and functional furnishings and a great swimming pool! I found the pool a great place to get some sun and a quick swim. It is on the border of La Jolla, but about halfway between Pacific Beach and downtown La Jolla. The front desk, staff person, and all of the housekeeping and service staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for a work trip and check in was difficult. They require that you have a CC in hand and the person who owns the CC there with you or they won't let you check in. They say if you pay online that isn't an issue but that wasn't an option for us when booking. Just keep that in mind if you are booking for things business related.

The Sands of La Jolla is in a very nice neighborhood and just one block from the Pacific Ocean. The staff are very professional and are willing to help. The room is clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

Very cute place that is close to a lot of fun including a 10 minute walk to the north part of Pacific Beach. Lovely service, quiet, comfy bed with a great A/C system. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend.

We stayed for 4th of july weekend. The room was everything we needed and we loved it! check in/out was super smooth and the staff was very nice. The location was perfect, super quiet and nice. A bunch of restaurants in a 5 minute walk radius. Cvs being right next door was also super convenient. Didn’t have any problems with noise, even being right by the pool. One thing i wished they did was give a parking pass, just to be able to secure a parking spot everyday. But when they ran out of parking, the staff was helpful and accommodating on other places to park

We definitely plan to return to this location. The room was clean and very comfortable. The service was great. Coffee, though not in each individual room, is available in the hotel lobby with an assortment of creamers. There is a microwave available, outside the room, in a shared common area. This location has easy walking access to the shore, shops, coffee, bakery, all within 2 to 3 blocks. The view to the West was great. We look forward to staying here again.

Front desk staff was outstanding. Stephanie and I think Denise not completely sure on her name both were exceptionally nice and helpful. Location is good parking can be a little tight. Pool area is small and there is no vending but there is a cvs at the end of the block.fairly quiet area.

I was happy with the room, it was clean, the beds were soft and comfortable. The room did not have a coffee machine, I went to the office to get some coffee, but they did not open until 8 am. If early morning coffee is a must have you will need to drive or walk to a coffee shop. i would stay here again despite the coffee issue.

Rooms have been nicely updated. Staff was top notch. Incredible area, on the weekend, people line up at Wayfarer to grab amazing baked goods and then either walk to the water to relax and eat or go a few doors down to Bird Rock Coffee.

I couldn’t have asked for a better location to stay at in La Jolla. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Be sure to check out Don Barvo’s for their amazing street tacos, as they are a 5 minute walk away.

It is close to the Birdrock commercial area where we tried the highly regarded Wayfarer Bread, the Bird Rock Coffee Roaster shop, and an Italian restaurant. It was a quick drive to Harry’s for breakfast in La Jolla and discovered they have a parking lot behind the restaurant. Parking at the hotel was plentiful and at no cost, such a plus in San Diego. The hotel was quiet, though quite full.

Clean, modern room in a great location to walk to beach and restaurants. Loved having a mini fridge and clothes steamer in the room. Pool was nice temperature to enjoy at night.
