A splendid stay at the City Hotel. A lovely old hotel with a lovely interior refurbished to suit the fabric of the hotel. Only downside is no lift to second floor, the stairs were awkward for older people. The staff were amazing and helped us with our suitcases. A beautiful dining area and outside space. Highly recommend this hotel.

Very well run city/town centre hotel. Very clean, great central location, good breakfast and nice restaurant & bar. The only negative was the lack of free parking spaces for hotel residents (only 6). Although there is an inexpensive pay & display car park at the rear of the hotel, with access to the hotel.

I was in a single room and it didn't cost much. It was fairly basic but had everything I needed and I was happy enough. What I really loved was the breakfast. It was top notch. I was travelling for business but am now thinking of returning to the area for a short break and another brilliant breakfast. I had a bit of spare time and took a walk in the lovely park just near the hotel, it was huge and very well maintained. I plan to return there with the kids. I had been worried about parking at the hotel as they only have a few spaces but there is a large car park just behind the hotel which was free after a certain time and seemed fairly reasonably priced for such a central location.

Great hotel, excellent location for Pittencrief Park and Dunfermline Abbey. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. They had cereals, fruit, yoghurt, fresh juices and choice of a cooked breakfast. Rooms spread out, down lots of corridors and up stairs. Stair lift from main reception down to breakfast, restaurant and bar areas. 2 maybe 3 entrances to reception, one on street level and one from rear car park. We used the pay as you go car park at rear of hotel, which had lots of steps. Free from 6pm to 8am. After reading the room info, it says parking at rear under balcony of hotel, but we only saw 3!

The City Hotel is not the place to stay if you want a quiet nights sleep at the weekend, but we knew the bar is busy and the karaoke is on a Saturday. Room too hot and couldn’t open the window because of the noise. Other than that, the City Hotel is a great place to stay. Lovely room, great bar and friendly staff

Breakfast at the restaurant was good. Hotel itself is old, lots of stairs to climb, and not very bright. Room was basic and some tea cups were not washed.parking is available at the car park behind (not very expensive) but taking the bags from the car park and climbing those stairs was not easy.

A long weekend for business - friendly attentive staff, large and comfortable room, reasonable food, will definitely use again. Disabled parking is scant to non-existent and there’s no lift. (If you tell me now there is one I will deduct a star)

The Hotel has about 6 of it's own car parking spaces and I was able to get one of them but there is a large public car park to the rear. Clean and comfortable and the Scottish Breakfast was very good. Some town centre noise from the front on a Saturday night but it suddenly quietened down. I'd certainly go to back again.

It was extremely hot in the room, it smelled really bad, there were stains on the rug and bedding. It was just dirty looking. The staff was great but everything else was horrible. I was suppose to get breakfast but had to check out early. Glad I didn't eat the food. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you don't care about cleanliness.

Room overall was a disappointment. The bed was uncomfortable, bed sheets were stained and mouldy patches? Bathroom was absolutely disgusting and didn’t looked cleaned in weeks. Also the noise cancellation was terrible because we could constantly hear next door guests with their tv and snoring. Breakfast was okay considering it was free but not happy. Will definitely not go again

We stayed here for our daughter’s wedding and found the hotel to be clean and the staff to be friendly and helpful. It’s very close to the City Chambers and the Glen which is beautiful for photographs.

Staff were lovely breakfast was good but my only complaint would be that only one choice of yoghurt which was strawberry, maybe there could be some natural yoghurt also. Unfortunately when I was going to put my clothes into the drawer there was a half eaten sandwich in drawer. I advised the staff on reception.

Had a great stay at the City Hotel. Check-in was quick and easy, and the receptionist was friendly. My room was clean, tidy and contained everything I needed. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. I'd definitely stay at this hotel again, and highly recommend it.

I would definitely book here again, great price & location plus breakfast included. The staff were friendly & helpful, rooms were clean and comfy!! Nice touch with suppling fans if needed.

Room was nice and clean I was in the top floor. But the room was like a sauna. I slept with the window full open all night the room only started to cool down at 3 am. The staff were very friendly and the hotel is very clean. Just the crazy heat let it down for me

The executive room we had was very clean & spacious. However the blinds do not sufficiently block out the morning light. Woken at 4am with seagulls outside & a staff member shortly after mopping the decking area at the back. Neither of these were really overly noisy but the room had no double glazing & no sound proofing in any way. It felt like the windows were all open. The shower was large & again spotless, but no real water pressure.

Pros; Handy for city centre. Although the room was small it was well thought out and had everything I needed. Parking available by hotel entrance. Cons; Being an attic room the shower was a bit tight due to the roofline.

I had booked a king size room and was given an interconnecting room. We could hear everything from that room ie when they were walking to the bathroom during the night it sounded like they were in our room. Also we could hear them clearly in the bathroom. We were then wakened very early and couldn’t get back to sleep. Was a shame as everything else was great but the room was terrible

All of the staff were very friendly and helpful 🙂, they made us feel very welcome and that they were there to make sure we had everything that we needed. Friendliest, happiest staff we have had the pleasure of dealing with.. We are glad to be able to recommend them as a place to stay. They are walking distance to shops and a fabulous park..

Booked a king size room given a twin room and reception were unable unwilling and quite frankly rude when i requested a move. 7-9 for breakfast is ridiculous. Hotel door and bar closed when we returned at 2215 Its almost like the hotel is here for the convenience of the staff rather than the guests.

The staff were very welcoming on arrival and departure. All relevant information was given regarding the hotel. Dinning staff at breakfast were helpful and friendly. as a female solo traveller I felt very safe.The Hotel and my room were spotlessly clean. The location is central for shopping, the park and some historical sites. Would highly recommend

The customer service is fantastic in this hotel. They have several eating options- Resturant - Bars... The only issue I had was I was on the top floor which is actually 3 stories of stairs the last set being very thin and difficult for me to manage my suitcase. However MO- a fantastic young mand who carried my bag up and even said come find me when you are going to check out and I'll carry it down. And he did and it wasnt even his job THANK you Mo!!!!!

Had a great stay at the City Hotel. Check-in was quick and easy, and the receptionist was friendly. My room was clean, tidy and contained everything I needed. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. I'd definitely stay at this hotel again, and highly recommend it.

Clean, central hotel. The walk from the railway station is 20 minutes (with suitcases) uphill. The bus station, however, is just around the corner. At the weekend it can get a bit loud at night from the street.

The hotel is perfectly located in city centre just a short walk from the entrance to beautiful Glen Park and Dunfermline Abbey closeby also large public car park immediately at back of hotel. Popular hotel so need to book ahead.

Great hotel, excellent location for Pittencrief Park and Dunfermline Abbey. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. They had cereals, fruit, yoghurt, fresh juices and choice of a cooked breakfast. Rooms spread out, down lots of corridors and up stairs. Stair lift from main reception down to breakfast, restaurant and bar areas. 2 maybe 3 entrances to reception, one on street level and one from rear car park. We used the pay as you go car park at rear of hotel, which had lots of steps. Free from 6pm to 8am. After reading the room info, it says parking at rear under balcony of hotel, but we only saw 3!

I stay at this hotel often as it’s got excellent transport links by rail and bus to central Edinburgh but without the expensive prices . Excellent breakfast in the mornings, comfy rooms and lgbt friendly staff What’s not to like

Common areas, bar/restaurant areas, our room, etc were all clean, in good condition. Nice and quiet. Very walkable. The bed was overly soft, bit of a sag. Bathroom lighting could be a bit harsh. Better breakfasts elsewhere, terrible drip coffee in restaurant. But cannot beat the location, right next to a truly gorgeous park. Staff were all very, very nice. Relaxing to have a pint in the bar in the evenings.

Mostly all great apart from breakfast some items sausages,haggis,blackpudding overcooked looked like the had been kept under something to keep them warm and this has led to being overcooked.

This was a last minute booking because I had to be in the Edinburgh area a day earlier due to a storm hitting the north part of Scotland. It was very affordable and easy to get to from Waverly Station by train (although the walk to the hotel is mostly uphill from the station). I had a meal at the hotel restaurant on the day I checked in, and it was very delicious and reasonably priced, and the included breakfast was great. Also there was a supermarket a short walk away for snacks. The only negative about the room was that I found the shower doors were very narrow, so it took a bit of effort to go in and out, but nothing that would prevent me from staying here again!

The hotel was clean and well run. There isnt a lift, so wouldn't be suitable for people with mobility issues. There is a pay & display car park immediately outside the hotel's back entrance, which costs £4 a day. Breakfast was excellent. The full Scottish included haggis and black pudding. The only gripe is that they say that guests aren't allowed to eat takeaway food in their rooms. The evening I had a takeaway, it was perfect weather for eating outside, but i wouldn't have been happy in bad weather

The hotel far exceeded my expectations. The value for money was incredible. Staff were lovely, room was great, bed was comfortable and in walking distance to pubs, food, shops etc . Breakfast was a welcome surprise as for the price I didn’t expect anything like what I got. Will be back

Brilliant stay, couldn't recommend more! room was super clean. bathroom looked brand new, there was a mirror with heating & backlight! hotel was bigger than i expected, so i was pleasantly surprised by the experience. location is great, staff were great, breakfast was included with a varied selection, all the staples (full breakfast, benedict, eggs on toast, porridge, cereal, fruit, tea/coffee/juice etc) available with choice of hot/cold options. check in and check out was easy, staff all very friendly, will be recommending it and staying again, if needed. Dunfermline abbey is basically across the road and a big park nearby for a bit of sightseeing, the airport is about 30min drive away (depending on traffic) and Edinburgh city centre about 30-40min as well.
