Sea Horse Inn and Cottages

Good spot on the south end of the beach, close to jennets pier. Nice volleyball net, wish someone wanted to play. Parking can be a little difficult. Parallel parking was the only thing I didn't like, every thing else was good and I will stay there again if I need to.

The room was very small, the tv wasn't working {mgr got it fixed}, assigned 3rd floor and NO elevator. Would not recommend.

This property was very close to the beach, walkable, just across the street. The rooms were very clean, with just the basics, bed, bathroom, TV, nothing fancy. They have NO elevators and the stairs and VERY small. I have a knee replacement and my sister has both of her hips replaced and we were placed on the 3rd floor, so needless to say this was quite difficult getting our suitcases up and down the stairs. This was our lesson learned, but please take note of this lesson if you are planning to stay here. There is also no actual human person to talk to when you check in. It is all automated, it is kinda weird, but it worked out. I am 48 years old, but I not sure someone older that is not familiar with IT things will have an easy time with it.

It's a nice place. Almost always full.only thing I wish was different was 1st floor parking, you're able to park right outside of your room, on both sides. Leaves little room to pass by parked vehicles. Especially if you drive a truck. There's plenty of parking out back so that's nice. Staff was friendly and responsive when needed. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others

This is an old-timey hotel that's well-maintained and clean. No frills, but im here for the ocean,,so i don't care. Check-in was easy and quick. The man checking us in was friendly and efficient. Plenty of towels. There's a little kitchen complete with a stove and plenty of cookware. Ice machine works lol. Lots of towels. Mattresses are soft and i prefer hard ones. Lots of windows. You can walk to the beach right next to Jennette's Pier. A market right across the street too. And dog friendly, but you do have to pay $50 which is kind of high in my opinion. This hotel was created before physical disabilities were accounted for, so probably not a great place if you use a wheelchair or need bars to hold on to in the bath. No elevator.

Old hotel , very clean, great location, tiny shower, no elevator but only 3 floors. Very large room, beds were fairly comfortable, walkable good restaurants.

Great location, Affordable. Restaurants close by, Pier, convenience store walking distance. Gas 1/2 mile. Parking is tight and limited. 3 story building with NO elevator. No pool.

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past decade, both before and after the change in management, and have always appreciated its convenient location by Jeanette's Pier and across from Calhoun's Market, which has a fantastic deli. Unfortunately, my most recent stay was the worst by far. In the past, I've found the rooms to be well-maintained and clean, but this time, the room was dingy, unclean, and in desperate need of updates. The tile floors were cracked, and the tiles shifted as we walked across them. When we arrived, the sheets were already sandy, and I had to sweep the room myself because it hadn't been done. We had to track down housekeeping just to get clean linens, and there was even a roach on the ceiling. The closet, which was pine, had a strong mildew smell. The bathroom was tiny, and both the shower and toilet didn't work well. To make matters worse, the guests in the room next to us were a group of 20-year-olds who partied all night, making it nearly impossible for our baby to sleep. While the room was offered at a great rate, by the time we had to find housekeeping for linens, buy our own pillows and blankets because the hotel's were not clean, and purchase a white noise machine to drown out the noise, I realized I could have spent a little more elsewhere and actually enjoyed a relaxing vacation. In the past, this hotel has been a reliable choice, but after this experience, I'm not sure I would return.

Stayed there 4 nights during the Bluegrass festival in Manteo. It was very comfortable and clean with a microwave and fridge in our room. The place is a bit worn, but not terrible. It was a good value at approximately $75 per night.

The room was dirty. I had to call the staff right after my check in because there were crumb type objects all over the bed UNDER the blanket. No hot water. The floor was sticky and pieces were loose and kept popping up. It also smelled like they just spray chemicals and don’t actually clean. I’ve never left a bad review before but this place was not ok. It’s close to the beach, that’s the only positive

One of the worst places we have stayed in in the past 10 years. Extremely Musty smelling. I have asthma but it's not healthy for anyone to breathe this air quality of air. Black Mold was seen in the bathroom. All wall bathing fluids empty and a pain to get refilled so only got hand soap filled after having to go to front desk. Coffee pot only worked if you stood there holding down the lid for 10 minutes. Will NEVER stay at this place again.

Great place to stay. Location is convenient, rooms are always very clean and nice. I've stayed here numerous times and will continue to do so.

One of the cheaper options in the OBX and nice location. Check in and check out were easy. The a/c worked great. Oddly, the towel folded for display had a stain right in the center. Wiped up some blood in the kitchen area. The top of the lampshade by the bed had a lot of dead bugs. The bottom of the shower curtain was moldy. The crown molding in the bathroom is hanging off.

The location was great. The room was so-so. It was pretty clean but the sheets were dingy and stained. Several lightbulbs were out. There was a moldy hole in the ceiling above the shower. It’s a great place to stay if you don’t want to spend much and don’t expect a super great room.

The cottage was nice and clean. Kitchenette had everything you needed.

Roaches. Yep, that’s what you want at these prices. Sitting in our room a roach runs out from under the fridge. (See photo) there were other bugs as well. The ceiling was dirty and you can tell the bare minimum is put into maintaining the rooms. Also the room was slightly damp including the linens. I was wondering why there was a dehumidifier now I now. After I took a 5 minute shower with the fan on, there was visible condensation on the tables. The bed was what you expect, below average but thankfully clean.

Great location, older beach motel but they've done a nice job keeping it up. Only issue we had was the a/c unit was very noisy would wake us up throughout the night, would stay again!

Quick and easy walk to the ocean and restaurants. Room was clean, but there was a musty smell to it. Wifi was very spotty.

The bed was excellent, but the room was tiny. The shower was small, but there was great water pressure. The television worked. We were at the beach most of the day, so having a great night's sleep was important. Perfect location. The staff was very kind.

Made a last minute booking and don't regret it. The room had a beautiful view of the ocean, staff was kind and helpful. Easy access to the highway and activities nearby. The cottages looked fun(didn't stay in one) but they lack the ocean view that the 3rd floor offers, well worth the trip up the stairs.

Rooms were comfortable. We had one king bed. Having a dehumidifier in the room was good after the really bad storm where everything we had on the beach got drenched. I didn't like the kiosk check in and check out, but it worked fine. Very convenient area for the event I attended at the pier.

It wasn’t very comfortable, I would have preferred a table and chairs vs a vinyl love seat. The room was fairly clean, but very old. Location was good. VERY noisy, especially the air conditioner. For the price we paid it was okay. Not sure we’d stay there again. Location was good

Location is excellent as it’s directly across from the beach access. I wouldn’t say it was dirty, but not sure if I could call it clean either. The furnishings were a bit run down and the kitchenette had sparse supplies. You get what you pay for here

The cabin was a perfect place to go to sleep after staying out all day on the beach. Close to Fat Boys for ice cream and some of our favorite restaurants. Although advertised as “soundproof walls” our experience was otherwise, could definitely hear our neighbors very clearly through the walls. No complaints, would stay there again with my wife on another long weekend on the Outer Banks!!

Friendly staff

Hotel was good, a little dated but clean overall. Checkin was through automated kiosk in lobby, speaking with someone from Phillipines. That was disappointing.

Do not book here - Absolutely horrible and the worst experience of my life. I made a reservation online for 3 nights. I called the hotel saying we paid for the first night but would check in, in the morning. When you arrive you deal with a kiosk and someone in a remote location I’m assuming, odd to say the least. The manager in the office was very nice but zero help. We were told we couldn’t check in at 8 am because they canceled our reservation and had to wait until 4pm for a new room when we had our dog with us. The representative was absolutely horrible so I sent my husband in to deal with them after 30 mins. They ended up giving MY HUSBAND a FREE night for the hassle. Heads up, they have no respect for women apparently. We paid the hotel despite having already paid the online reservation, so now we have paid for 3 nights TWICE. Fast forward to checkout, we’re told we now have to pay AGAIN. All in all, we have paid 3 separate reservations for a total of $1200. The hotel is NOT worth $1200. The hotel is dated but was decent except for the damp humid bathroom and mold on the bathroom ceiling in room 331.

After waiting 20 minutes due to the check in kiosk not working I received keys for the an occupied and walked into two people sleeping.

The staff was friendly enough. However, we did not receive housekeeping service at all during the entire week we were there. I had to ask for fresh towels, toilet paper, and coffee. The beds were comfortable but the floor was not that clean.

The check in process is a kiosk and not a person. they billed me for 2 rooms and i only checked into one. Cant get a refund

I had reservations for three nights. The weather turned bad and I asked if I could leave one day early. He said no problem but I would have to go through Expedia for my refund back for one day. Based on his statement, I left one day early. Expedia contacted him for my one day refund and he refused. He knew he was going to do this all along. This is very bad business practice and is the second time I have run into this when dealing with a non-American owned motel.

Our check-in experience was terrible. It was with a virtual agent at a kiosk who couldn’t understand anything we were saying. She asked for information that had already been provided prior to our arrival, including a credit card number and driver's license picture. She was very lackadaisical and had no energy--never smiled or said anything welcoming. There was no staff on site for the entire stay. During the online check-in prior to our arrival, we were asked if we wanted daily cleaning of the room for free, so we checked yes, and it came back "denied." So why even ask if it's not available? The room was very small, and the shower and tub were in the main part of the room, not the actual bathroom. There was also a large hole under the door that needed to be sealed. The hotel is way across the street from the actual beachfront. There are signs saying to not track sand into the room but nowhere to wash off your feet. The one positive thing is the hotel is located close to a lot of restaurants and attractions, and there's a nice walking/bike path on the road.

It's an old hotel but had what I needed. The bathroom is smalI and the room itself could use another dresser. I wanted to be close to Jeannette's Pier and this place is across the street. Loved that. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby to choose from.

This is an excellent budget motel right across from Jeanette’s Pier. Right next door is the always delicious Sam and Omies for breakfast-dinner. Across the street is the local market with everything from kitchen supplies to wine to medicine and everything in between. The motel itself has seen some wear both from age and the ocean air. It’s perfect for a quick trip but I would not encourage using the kitchenette. The wiring was a bit concerning on our stove and there doesn’t appear to be any fire suppression system in the cottages. I did note the smoke detector but the cottages are attached to others rooms and it concerned us whether our neighbors might use their appliances. Some upgrades I’d suggest are tile flooring and pvc paneling on the walls as well as removing metal fixtures where possible. However, we loved our stay and will come back!! Definitely recommend for families on a budget needing a great beach access!

So much convenience! The market across the street has everything you need! From food too fishing and more. If they don't have it, you didn't need it. Jennette's Pier across the street, Sams and Omie's next door and Fatboyz Ice cream next door as well. Short drive to a must try food spot Fish heads! Location can't get about better. The water view we had in the classic room with a 180 view. So relaxing to wake up to. The staff here were very accommodating. Would stay here again!!

Great location. Older hotel that has been updated some. Enjoyed having the kitchenette. Stayed in one of the "cottages". Luckily only had someone next door 1 night because you could hear every sound. Need to fix the gap at the bottom of door, lets flies in! Did not like not having a staffed front desk.

Nice basic cottage right across from Jeanette’s Pier. Room was clean and well stocked with linens. Bed comfortable. Stove could use a cleaning but we just heated up pizza in it no biggie. They allow pets with a fee. Really great restaurant next door. Sam and Omie’s. Will stay here again

I stayed in one of the cottages so that’s what I am reviewing. Great location close to everything, beach access and Jeannette’s Pier are just across the road. Two or three restaurants are close by too and a nice little market. Check in is a bit awkward with the kiosk, but once done the rest is easy. Cottages come with a full kitchen, which is great. You might want to bring a few things from home, such as cutting board and kitchen towels. I also brought a small coffee maker since they only provide a Keurig, but that’s just me. They don’t clean the rooms while you are there, but are upfront about it and, personally I prefer it that way. Overall I had a quiet relaxing stay and would definitely stay again.

Very nice little property. Not a huge property. K cups was nice. . Walk across the street to beach and Jennets fishing pier. Sam and omies is a good restaurant nextdoor. Staff was excellent, kind . Will stay there again. Great spot for the money!!
