Cormorant Boutique Hotel

Terrific location to walk everywhere in La Jolla. The rooftop bar had amazing cocktails and food, but was a little loud when we were trying to sleep at night (they closed at 11 pm) The front desk clerk who helped us with check in and parking was very helpful and thoughtful. The view was great and the room was clean and comfortable.

I choose this Hotel for location, it was perfect, we valeted the car for convenience, I had read parking was a problem. This solved it for an extra $35. Rooms were clean and bed was comfortable. Only thing missing is a suitcase rack. This is a must have in a hotel w any size room. Please provide this. I would love to come back! I live in Maui, but I love San Diego and La Jolla. The girls at the desk, could Not be sweeter! Good job on the hiring! Good employee’s are hard to find!! Everyone seems happy working there! That’s a plus!!

Location could not be better: within walking distance to multiple restaurants, cafe's, gelato etc. One of the best restaurants is the hotel's own Birdseye. Fantastic views, excellent food and drinks. Walk to the water, the coves, sea lions, shopping. Staff was superb. Only "negative" is there is traffic noise in the room but after the first night we paid no attention to it.

The hotel is quite new and nicely decorated for a small hotel room. There is NO ELEVATOR! I was traveling alone with one small suitcase, so it wasn’t an issue for me, but if I had a larger suitcase, children, or disabled or older…this would not have been at all acceptable. The fact there is only stair access and it was not listed in the description isn’t acceptable.

Location very busy and crowded. Not much for parking unless you valet. Hotel bathrooms are tiny with small shower and no sink countertop space. Front desk staff were friendly, other service staff not so much. Best thing about hotel is it’s in walking distance to beach, restaurants and shops. Hotel price you pay is based on location and not amenities. Rooftop restaurant is so-so and pricey. $17 for chips and guac.

pros- Very quiet..comfortable bed..full store attached 24/7 cons- outdated..not easy to get to,to get checked in..Expensive! AC wasn't user friendly..elevator to rooms and rooftop wasn't operable 2 of our 3 days..my room didn't have an elongated toilet bowl.. we enjoyed but will go elsewhere next visit to LA Jolla..

Location can’t be beat! Walking distance to many restaurants and things to do in La Jolla. The cove, sea lions, pelicans and the beautiful beaches. The room was ok. Clean, a bit outdated, nice little balcony. Upstairs restaurant with ocean view is great ( but food only ok. Fries mheh) worst part is front desk is often closed and no one is ever there. People that are there are usually pretty good but it’s a little hit and miss. Some people don’t really understand how to check you in or follow the process. Others are super nice. We waited for a very long time for valet. Service at the hotel was very mediocre. That’s the worst part about this place service is not so great. Service at the restaurant was also not so great. Big attitude. We asked for milk for the coffee and they scowled and told us to go to the market to buy some milk. Can you give me some milk for coffee and he said no! You can go to the market. What? I paid $250 for one night in a hotel and he couldn’t ask somebody to go get me a little bit of milk to put in my coffee in the morning? I think the managers are investors has spent a lot on the properties. They should really spend a little bit more on the people who are staffed at the hotel to get better service.

The location of this hotel is phenomenal, a short walk to Scripps park and the sea lions! The hotel has a nice market to buy snacks as well offers tea and voffee in their lobby. Also, the room was very clean and hoisekeeping foes a great job. The bed was very comfy too. If, driving you almost have to valet ($35 p/d) to guarantee parking. We would stay here again for the convenience of location.

Such a cute property!! The staff was amazing, the property is in a great location and it is immaculately clean and well kept. Our room was updated and well done and the view was amazing. We'll definitely stay again!

The hotel is really nice overall with amazing views of the ocean, and the rooftop restaurant food was good, offering the same amazing views. Room needed a complete remodel and to be deodorized. The musty smell was awful.

Great location. My room was a bit warn-down, mold in the shower, broken wood, water stain on the ceiling, ext. Its also really hard to sleep even with ear plugs. The street and bars are very loud. Room was not cleaned daily as stated.

So, I booked the trip on Expedia. Was set to pay at the hotel. Had a receipt of the charges that would be due. I get to the hotel and there was some “system change/error” where they couldn’t find my booking. But, no worries, they had a room. Showed them my original reservation. When I pay, I see that they charged me $200 more than my original booking. When I asked them, they said that is is because Expedia doesn’t include the taxes…well on the original receipt I had it showed all the taxes and included fees. The only thing that was different was the nightly rate changed and went up $30/night…They would not honor the original price. It just seemed shady. On top of this, the hotel was just not great. My room was literally right next to the check in counter, and my “ocean view” room was mostly a “street view” room, so I was surrounded by noise. Additionally there were small things that were off about the cleanliness. There were weird dirt stains all over my pillows when I got there, the walls were dirty (like random spots, or like water sweat marks), no bath mat available. It is a great location, so I guess that is what you’re paying for. Wouldn’t stay here again, especially with so many other options in the area.

Such a great location. Our room 305 was right near stsirs going to the rooftop bar and restaurant and it smelled musty. Might stay here again but would be very particular about selecting a room. Staff very sweet.

The room was very small, and the worst part was that the entrance was on the sidewalk. This made it extremely noisy due to street noise.

Hotel was great. Balcony had a view of the ocean. Close to the ocean and restaurants. Great area to explore walking. The only issue is that room 307 is below rooftop restaurant. As a result, late into the evening and early in the morning, we could hear loud noises of chairs or tables being moved. That was the big disappointment other than that hotel was great.

We booked a queen room, we were given a room with a double bed. The room had no window except for onto a stairway to the deck. It was so loud until 11pm with drinking and lots of loud music and noise. The room looked like a utility closet with no space to even open a suitcase. No hanging space only a couple of drawers. They refused to refund our money and we still moved next door. Room 305 should never be rented.

The hotel was in an excellent location. Many things were within walkable distance. The balcony area overlooking the cove was amazing. The room was a bit small for the price but the bedding and the bed were very comfortable. Had a good air conditioner as well. At night you could hear a lot of street noise and tables and chairs moving overhead in the rooftop bar. But I was so worn out I didn't have any issues falling to sleep. I do wish they offered a few more small amenities but overall an excellent place to stay.

Good location in the middle of the busy area of La Jolla but also right next to the water. Staff was very nice. It's a small hotel with small rooms but they were clean and the bathroom is modern. My room was directly beneath the rooftop bar so you could loudly hear chairs dragging until it closed at 11pm or so.

The room was as advertised and decent for the price, and check-in went smoothly. It's near the ocean and plenty of dining options. We had a room that opens to the street on the first level and a few things could be improved: There was a large gap under the door which let in a lot of the street noise. They could add a door sweep and make the room much quieter. Also the bathroom door is a sliding barn door style that in no way blocks any sound.

It was ok. A bit noisy until about 2 or 3 am and then noisy again early in the morning even on a Sunday. It’s fine if you will be out until late but if you want to sleep, this is a noisy hotel. The walls are also very thin, we could hear the neighboring people’s conversation and snoring at night. It was pretty difficult to reach the front desk after I checked in, I had to walk down a few times. It wasn’t the person at the front desks fault, she was very clearly spread too thin.

Superior location. Walkable to great restaurants and shopping. La Jolla cove view was amazing. Only had one bag so walking up stairs with my bag was awkward but not insurmountable. Exceeding loud restaurant above my room heard chairs and tables being dragged across ceiling quite late. Hotel provides ear plugs for this which allowed me to sleep peacefully even with all the noise. Best bed and bedding. Cozy and clean room. Loves the nespresso machine!

Fantastic location near the ocean. Great price considering the area and location. The room was VERY SMALL but nicely appointed. Just right for a short stay and play.

Everything was very nice. Can't beat the location. The only issue we had was the A/C made a rattling noise at times, which was quite loud.

Our room opened up RIGHT onto the lobby so we heard guests coming and going the whole stay. (Never been to a hotel where there was a room that close to the front desk. Felt like we were the en-suite to the reception area). We were flying back to the east coast on a red eye and as we were checking out, asked to leave our bags and pick them up later. We were told this was no problem. We’ve done this many times before and know it’s a typical courtesy. Just a couple hours after checkout, I received a voicemail from Elizabeth at the hotel telling me I needed to pick up the bags because they could not hold them “indefinitely.” I called back to explain that we had a flight that was leaving late at night and asking if they could hold them for us longer. Was told that no I needed to pick them up. And eventually given an ultimatum that I could pick them up before 5pm but no later. When we ended up picking up our bags, it was clear that there was plenty of space in the closet. So unclear what the urgency was… I fully recognize that my reservation ended when I checked out and the hotel is not required to hold bags for guests. That said, it is an established norm that hotels will accommodate guests in this situation. We cannot possibly have been the first guests ever to take a redeye after checking out of the Cormorant. The implication seemed to be “you checked out, we have your money, we don’t feel the need to be hospitable to you anymore.” Really disappointed.

This place is top rated in the area for a reason! You can literally have the valet park your vehicle and never need it until you leave. The staff were personable, attentive, and took very good care of us. We were so impressed, we booked our return for our Anniversary in September before we left!

Every staff member encountered was warm, welcoming and accommodating. Room had a spacious balcony with table with ocean view overlooking Girard & prospect street. Super conveniently located to dining options and beach is literally across the street. Nothing but great things to say about this property. Will definitely repeat a stay!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice boutique hotel with a nice & different vibe than a larger corporate hotel. Love the welcome cocktail, soft comfy robes, and the balcony with a view of the Pacific. And it's in a great location - easy walks to restaurants, shops, and the beach. Took just under twenty minutes to the airport in the early morning.

The location was perfect! You're literally a few steps from the beach and La Jolla Cove. Free street parking options are limited but there is a parking garage just a few minutes away. I would definitely stay at the Cormorant again!

This hotel was right in La Jolla downtown. Everything was walkable, our room was on the first floor so we stepped out onto the sidewalk, which for us was a benefit. There was a table and chairs on a small area outside our door. The Birdseye restaurant had great drinks and delicious food (we dined there twice) and the view was spectacular.

Conveniently located property within walking distance of La Jolla cove, excellent restaurants, and a variety of upscale and earthy shopping. Staff was wonderful and The Birdseye restaurant on the 4th floor was wonderful. Had drinks and appetizers there several nights. The view is amazing.

Absolutely loved this hotel—so much personality! The views (we were on the second floor) looked straight out at the ocean. The balcony overlooks the iconic curved street leading down to the tip of La Jolla/Oceanfront. We walked just a couple of doors down to Duke’s and had dinner on their oceanview deck. Then we came back and headed to the rooftop bar that extends over the hotel—it was the perfect end to the evening. Parking might be a pain, but you can Valet by pulling right up to the front door. There is a parking garage down the street to the right - if you want to self park. We’ll definitely stay here again!

Cool property. Rooms are smallish, but well designed. Balconies over looking the street can be a little noisy, but not terribly so. Great for the view and ppl watching. The roof top restaurant/bar offers great views, but the wait staff can’t make change? If I’m paying a $39 tab w/a $100 bill, the staff should be able to make change. The location is great.
