Valley Ford Hotel

No ac but the open window and fan made it very comfortable quickly. 1864 building that we found delightful but won’t be for everyone! Stairs only to the rooms, comfy bed, no tv.

Valley Ford Hotel is located on Highway 1, convenient for a drive up or down the California coast. As it's right on the road, we could hear cars zipping by until dark and early in the morning. There's no front desk... the proprietors left an envelope for us outside the hotel's door with the door codes, so we could enter easily. I wasn't sure how that was initially going to work, but the area was safe, so it felt ok. If you mess up the code too many times to enter your room, the restaurant's staff can contact the proprietor to reset the code. The room was clean and quaint, with a really comfortable bed. The bathroom was also clean with fluffy towels. The one detractor in the bathroom was that the shower/tub floor was slippery, but at least there was a grab bar. There were a couple of nearby dining options, including a bar/restaurant downstairs from the hotel (we ate there for dinner) and a cafe across the street (we ate there for breakfast). Overall, we had a lovely stay!

Very clean, cute, accessable h20 and coffee. Great bed slept well, reading material. No tv, which was ok for for me I like to read. Lots of stairs, everyone very helpful. This is not our first stay here. We like to stay at the Valley Ford Hotel when we are visiting family in Sonoma County, so we've been here several times. We appreciate the rural location, the great food downstairs in the restaurant (and breakfast at the cafe across the street), and other local amenities, like the grocery and the creamery. The night before Thanksgiving we rolled in right before the restaurant closed and had dinner at the bar, in friendly, comfortable surroundings, then climbed up the stairs and went to bed. The room was spotless, but not the tiniest bit fancy. The furniture is stripped pine. Our bed was comfortable and the sheets were crisp. There is a ceiling fan in the room, and a space heater if needed. A coffee bar is in the hallway. This is not a luxury stay but a great, basic stay in a cute, tiny town. It is so much nicer than a motel for a quick stay. One caveat: The stairs are steep (all rooms are upstairs) and you are responsible for your own luggage.

Bed was comfortable, lightbulb was out by the bed, not a biggie, and the noise from the trucks outside was Loud. Easy to find, parking was good and could definitely smell the nearby cow pastures.

Self check in/out was easy and convenient. Room was small but cozy. We really enjoyed the free coffee/tea bar outside our door in the hall. It also had purified water to fill our water bottles and hot water dispenser for tea. Towels were new and super soft and plush! Restaurant is downstairs and was convenient for dinner with tasty options. Only downfall was we wish there had been a microwave in the room or outside in the hall with the coffee bar to heat up leftovers or snacks. Also the commuter traffic in the morning outside our window was loud starting around 4:50 am.

Our room was quaint and clean and had the usual things you would expect to find in a hotel: minifridge, coffeemaker and coffee pods/creamers, soaps/body wash/shampoo/conditioner. I liked that the bar of soap they gave you in the bathroom was a little slice of what I assume is handmade lavender soap, not the usual pre-packaged corporate soap you usually see in hotels. It's the little things, right? Also the bath towels were great - thick and luxurious and plenty big. My only complaint about the room is that the bed mattress was a little too soft for my preference. Also I don't think there was an ice machine available, but I just went downstairs to the restaurant below and asked the bartender for some ice. She also told me to let her know if there was anything else I needed, so I guess the restaurant staff doubles as the hotel staff if needed. We had dinner at the restaurant downstairs (Rocker Oysterfellers) which was very convenient, and we had a delicious meal. There is also another fairly well-loved local restaurant in the same little town, and Cafe Estero across the street where we had breakfast the next day.

This off the beaten path hotel is a must stay. The connected restaurant served up one of the best burgers I’ve ever had ! Historical building with charm. The staff was the best. FYI: everything closes early so get what you need before you get there 👍

We had stayed there a few years back and really enjoyed our room, the restaurant, and the town. BUT, I don’t think anything has been updated since then. The hall stair carpet was filthy, the hall reeked of cat urine, the only coffee pot was in the hall to be shared with all rooms….seriously?? Really disappointing. And the restaurant was limited and overpriced for the options. Will not come back.

Hotel was a challenge to find, since there was no internet or GPS service on Route 1. But, room was GREAT! Very clean! Quaint “Mom&Pop” Hotel! Would definitely stay here again.

The room was spotless, beautifully appointed. But there was no tv, the only coffee maker was in the hall and had to be shared, and the hotel is on a busy road.

Check in was easy. The restaurant downstairs was noisy until almost 10. The refrigerator in the room made annoying whooshing sounds when it was running but we had stuff in there so I couldn’t unplug it. Overall not the most pleasant stay we’ve had over the last 3 weeks in motels.

The matress in #5 was not comfortable but that would be my only complaint. The staff were beyond wonderful and helpful.

We liked the cleanliness but not the noise from adjacent room and road. I was unable to get water in the shower, only at the sink in room 3.

On a motorcycle trip with my wife. We have stayed here during the pandemic and we wanted to come back to visit the area again. Only issue we had was that the reservation envelope was not out on the porch when we arrived at 3pm. And communication was a bit slow. We got into our room at about 3:30 after several phone calls and help from the restaurant staff. Other than that slight delay our stay was great.

Our stay was quite unique ..it was our first time there in this lovely country boutique style bed-and-breakfast. The food is lovely and the people are even more delightful! However, we were there when the power was out and it did not come back on the entire time we were there. Staff brought candles into every room and bathroom and made sure everybody had a flashlight or lantern and really made the best of it. They got a generator going for basic needs such as flushing toilets etc. They brought up big gallons of water for drinking and placed it in a really neat pitcher in the hallway for everybody to access . I have to say for having that kind of an event where they had no control over it they certainly improvised well and made everyone feel cared for and safe. It was a wonderful experience I hope to come back sometime when the power and the restaurant is fully up and running . We will be back! Lisa & Glen Rigsbee

An absolutely wonderful hotel, fantastic, peaceful location, super friendly, helpful staff. On site restaurant is excellent, I can highly recommend staying here, we'll definitely stay again.

We had a delicious dinner at the restaurant and then headed upstairs to our nice clean room. Our room faced the road so I was surprised how quiet it was. The bed was comfy, the room well appointed, and the amenities were great. We loved our visit to the cheese store for a scone and coffee. We tasted the cheese and ended up buying some to take home. I’m looking forward to staying there again!

Wow! What a cool, local, Americana kind of place! I wish I had more time here. Seems like a great base for N CA or wine country exploration. A great alternative to franchise or tired-looking lodging options in the area. Downstairs restaurant is amazing and so much fun, with a mix of local and visitors making for great conversation along with the great food and drink.
