Aaron’s cottage

A nice clean bungalow with good air conditioning and comfortable bed. I was most impressed with no bed bugs!! The kitchen is adequate with a gas burning stove top, rice maker, toaster and small coffee maker. The amenities are sufficient including iron and board if needed. There are plenty of dishes, pans and small pots. You may want to bring a larger cooking pot. The table for eating is very small but there is a bar with stools if you have kids. There’s a large refrigerator. The nice walk to a private beach is very cool! I highly recommend this place!

Love the greens and natures. Did not like that too many roaches in the kitchen.

The manager was very helpful. He had fresh fruit for us very day. Oranges, limes and tangerines. The room and kitchen was very clean. We had to use the washer and dryer at a different unit but it was just across the driveways

I love having access to a kitchen and laundry, plus proximity to the sweet little features on this side of Hilo. It would be nice to have a comfortable sitting chair in the room, and a better place to hang clothing.

We paid $162 per night. The previous week we had stayed in an absolutely beautiful 9th floor condo in downtown Hilo for $160. We booked Aaron's cottage thru Expedia and it did not say shared kitchen nor did it say in the description. When we got there the kitchen was disgusting - dirty greasy dishes, etc. It also smelled of old grease. Someone really needs to thoroughly clean it. Also, in back of the building there was junk and garbage laying around. The smoke alarms in our room were missing and there was supposed to be a snack pack. All we got was water and coffee. The shower did not have a surround so everything in the bathroom was wet. The bed linens smelled horribly of whatever detergent was used. I think The place was worthy of $60/night. So disappointing! The one good thing is that the bed was comfortable.

We ended up having the property pretty much to ourselves which was nice. It is no frills lodging and what the info on Expedia doesn’t make clear is that it is a shared kitchen. However as I said there weren’t many other lodgers while we we there so it didn’t make a difference. It has AC which sometimes you don’t find so that also was a plus! My one bit of advice is to bring good ear plugs if you stay here because there are “croakers” which are frogs that like to start talking and singing at nightfall and they are loud.

The property was simple and had everything we needed. Units are clean. Ws not aware the kitchen was shared with another unit but it was ok. We were respectful of each other. Good experience, conveniently located, tropical setting. Very Big Island!

Really disappointing overall. I stayed in a beautiful looking cottage and the first night was great. Then sewage backed up into the shower drain along with hot water which was bubbling up for hours while I was out of the room. I had to walk through raw sewage /human waste to get to my things since it flooded the entire bathroom. I notified the hotel staff who put me in a much smaller room which was poorly equipped and a significant downgrade. I message the property owner through Expedia and Expedia since I booked through them (not that I wanted to but I couldn’t get the direct website to work) and no reply. It wasn’t until I texted the owner directly after my stay that I even got a response. He clearly had no intention of doing anything to remedy the issue. No refund was being issued, no apology that my room flooded with sewage… nothing. Wow. Any competent hotel owner would have upgraded the guest and refunded at least part of the stay immediately without me having to ask. The cottage owner responded to my text by calling me and proceeded to yell at me for several minutes. The people next to me looked on in disbelief as they heard what he said about the room backing up with human waste… and still yelled at me like it was my fault and that it was definitely my problem. He screamed even more and demanded to know what I wanted done about it?!??? Wow… he said he would refund less than 25% of my stay just to shut me up…. I followed up with Expedia because wow. That was awful

On the first look the room was clean and it looked quite nice but the floor was not really clean and the blanket I had to sleep on had a few stains on it. Also my neighbours threw a big party in the next room and were really loud with a lots of people and they also stole a car. And if theres no party you hear everything your neighbours do and I mean „everything“. The wifi in my room was also non existent. But on the good side the room had some free snacks and it‘s located in a Beautiful spots and the most people living there are nice. Apart from the stains on the blanket and the crumps on the floor the room was clean and I‘m sure it was just bad timing that the party was during my stay. For eating there you have to buy yourself something or order delivery which is ultra expensive there.

I enjoyed that is was chill and quiet, and the beach was within walking distance. The room could use some upgrades, some things like the outlet covers were loose, the back screen door did not move smoothly, the lanai railing was loose and not connected at the bottom, and the shower curtain did not contain the water from the shower, so water ended up getting onto the floor in the bathroom. This type of shower really needs a solid glass door/wall to keep the water from going everywhere.

No. 5 is a great stand alone cabin. Josh, the caretaker, was able to bring us extra pillows. It fit our needs. I would recommend a better, firmer mattress. It was very hot in the cabin when we first got there. I would recommend getting the A/C on at least two hours before check in time. An exhaust fan in the bathroom would also help.

The place is old and needs some attention. Walls are thin you hear everything from the sneeze of your neighbours and relentless barage of birds and airplanes. If you have auditory sensitivity this definitely is not a place to sleep. Otherwise central to some great snorkelling spots close to the waterfalls and downtown Hilo.

Good price and clean. Disappointed that there was no place to sit and work on my computer. No desk or table to sit at and work. Note that this cottage is right under the flight path of and right next to the Hilo airport. So if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs.

Aaron’s cottage was a great place to stay. Granted we only stayed one night, but it was clean, quiet, convenient and comfy (however the pillows were extremely thin). For someone like me that has neck issues it could’ve been a problem (manager: May want to check the pillows and replace them). However I travel with my own pillow bc I expect these types of things so it was no biggie for me. Otherwise…GREAT stay!

I had a wonderful stay here. Property was easy to find, clean & quiet. The AC worked great and had the most comfy bed & pillows I have ever slept on! I would definitely stay here again.

Aaron's Cottage is a quaint, nice place. It has modern interiors, a wonderful setting, clean, bright & lovely. Don't expect a resort, the rooms are small but they have outdoor space to relax in. I fully reccomend it.

Cute and comfortable in a place close to so many fantastic beach parks! And Hilo Farmer's Market, restaurants and shops a short drive away. Jomo, the property manager, is very helpful and accommodating, he is doing a great job there. I enjoyed my stay in this beautiful place.

Excellent stay. I did have trouble with the code to the door that was left for me. But the Owner/Mgr. took care of that within minutes. If anything was negative was that dang rooster!!! Woke me up every day between 430-630Am. (but I did notice that the whole state has wild roosters, and chickens running around, so not the fault of Aarons Cottage's). Room was great, very quiet (only 5 of 10 rooms), clean, room looked just like the photos minus the floor fan. It had everything, I had everything I needed, and it was as advertised! Great location close to everything, yet far enough from the Hussle and Bussle. Price was great, and I would stay here again.

My parents and I rented the cottage for four nights. This was absolutely perfect for our needs and we slept really well. We were able to park our rental car with no problem and the area is loaded with things to see, and do. Restaurants nearby, as well as shopping in town. Many of our stops were 3 to 7 minutes away from the property. This is a much better location than staying up by Volcano. Under 10 minutes to the airport but noise wasn't an issue. Staff was super friendly and flexible to meet our needs. Definitely would recommend to those in a small group that don't want to be separated by rooms in a hotel.

Property was perfect for our needs. Bed, AC, amd shower. Easy cooking area for reheating our takeout. But facility was good amd owner easy to communicate with

This is our 2nd stay with Aaron's Cottage. The staff are always responsive if we need something. The location is great within walking distance of the beach. The units that we have stayed in have been clean and stocked with what we need for the stay.

Location is great but customer service is not met … we tried to call in advance and want find out some detail or whether we could come in a bit early and no response. Hubby complained about the strong odor when we walk in and air conditioner is noisy so we can hardly sleep

I wish the A/C was cooler, other than that room is clean staff very helpful. Windows shut tight so you don’t hear how loud Koki frogs are at night

Aaron's Cottage was a great place to stay. It's near the Hilo Bay shore and practically next door to a beautiful public beach park. The owner worked with me on a self check-in so that I could arrive at 11:30 pm. The in-room fridge was nice to have and was supplemented by a nearby communal kitchen with a larger fridge, cooktop, microwave, and toaster. The on-site trees coupled with the ocean breeze kept the room comfortable, but there was a small air conditioner for warmer times of the day. Aaron's Cottage is on a quiet dead end street but still within minutes of downtown amenities. The wifi is very good. My room had a nice Roku television, but why go to Hawaii to watch TV? Skip the glitz and choose simpler amenities with a relaxing atmosphere.

My wife and I wanted to take a break from Oahu and booked Aaron’s Cottage for 2 nights. It was perfect being only a few miles from the airport, near Hilo town, nice beaches a short walk up the road. We booked cottage #5 and it was the best. Everything was clean and fresh! Definitely staying there the next time we come back.

It was very nice to be in a Cottage. I barely used the ac because there was a nice cross draft. It is very close to a nice beach.

Very comfortable and beautiful location, common kitchen was very convenient. Secluded beach with beautiful views was a plus. Great alternative to staying at big, more expensive hotels. Would definitely consider staying again.

Great spot for a visit to the rocky beach just a few minutes walk. That was a pleasant surprise. Also have accessible kitchen. Nice quaint little place.

Very sweet cottage. The bed was so comfortable with pretty quilts and a ceiling fan. I got in late, but it was so easy to use the electronic lock on the door. Fruit tree in the front. I didn't use the communal kitchen but I was glad it was there. Extra towels in a basket, coffee and coffee maker. Love the two bottles of water in the fridge.
