Very handy for town, my room looked out to see.Friendly staff and excellent breakfast,good choice. Parking was ok,it's disk zone but you can buy permit from them,my four days cost £2 for full stay. Would definitely go again

On the West Cliffs with a lovely view of the sea and the harbour from our third floor room (the stairs were tiring after a long day!). Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. For £3 the guest house can provide a parking card valid for four days in Whitby. We had no trouble parking in the street around the corner.

No lift ,so being on the third floor climbing all the stairs was not for anyone with disabilities or with walking difficulties (As my partner had ) . Fire escape procedure was not what i would expected from a five storey building .

Fabulous sea front location. Friendly staff. Payable permit parking close by. No lift, so lots of stairs to take into consideration. Overall, good cleanliness, practical room space with all the standard goodies supplied. Excellent breakfast selection also included.

Great B n B in a fab position just near the whale bone arch. We had top floor sea view room, nice n quiet (not good for less mobile) the lady owner had e mailed beforehand to check we were ok with stairs(we are). Shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom, with heated towel rail. Plenty of plug sockets to go at. Tcmf and biscuits in the room, along with wine glasses and tumblers. Hairdryer in the drawer. Plenty of wardrobe space , ironing board. Really comfy bed. Top floor hallway area was a bit chilly...as was the room (14)...but it does say in the welcome book to turn it on and heat up to your own needs...which we did... big electric wall heater which heats up fast and gets the room really cosy. Nice hot fast shower. Lovely brekky (pre order from welcome book and leave it downstairs in the box the night before). Lovely ladies working the brekky room both days. Free parking outside (only valid mid oct-mid march...due to seasonal months)...in high season...follow parking permit instructions.

Property was excellent! Great location, clean, 3 pounds for parking. My only drawback, 5th floor with no lift. Very slow wifi. Otherwise, very good!

Location of guest house was excellent but as for all such properties in this area car parking has to be paid for using discs or cards purchased from the property. The Riviera was OK but not as good as we were expecting based on the historic reviews.

The riviera is in the perfect location, 5 mins to the harbour, but nice and quiet.The hotel room was spotless , of a generous size with an amazing view overlooking the sea. The owners were very welcoming and the breakfast was faultless along with the service which was exceptional. It was our first time here, we will be back definitely, this should be a go to stop for anyone visiting Whitby, thank you.

I knew there would be stairs to climb, but I didn’t expect it would be eight flights to our room. A warning would have been appreciated. There was a strong smell emanating from the bathroom although the bathroom was clean we had to keep the extractor fan going 24 hours a day to confine the smell to the bathroom. The sheets were too small for the mattress and kept rucking up. It would have been appreciated if we had some help lugging our luggage up and down the stairs no one was available. I am sure that others must have complained about the smell in the bathroom and am surprised nothing has been done about it.

The positives ….. bed was clean bath was clean. Negatives ….. overall very unclean. Public toilet out of order. Staff unhelpful and rude. We were told breakfast was 9am - 10am arrived at 9:10 am to be told breakfast was finished. When we explained what we had been told at check in the response was “ in the twelve years we have had this hotel we have never said that !!!” They then said they may be able to rustle us something up ….. it was terrible. Very poor food. Staff banging stuff down on the table obviously unhappy with us. Coffee was undrinkable. Very dirty breakfast room. Overall our experience was not good. Would definitely not return.

It was amazing, the service and the personal touch was perfect. Really enjoyed the breakfast it’s such a good idea ordering it the night before to save wasting food. All questions were answered straight away and in a friendly way. The room was clean and it had a great selection of tea and coffee with biscuits too. For my first time to Whitby, it was the best place to stay.

Great location across from the beach with sea view. Near to the town. A very clean and comfortable stay. Owners were there if needed, but never intrusive. Staff friendly. We can recommend the Garden Room restaurant at Sneaton Castle and the Trenchers Fish restaurant in Whitby. Both served very good food.

The premises was well located and easily accessed. The quality of the rooms was average. The electric shower in our room (9) did not work properly. The book in the room said breakfast was 8 - 9.30 at weekends but when we went down for breakfast at 9.20 we were rather abruptly told we were too late and would have to have continental. At the very least the information in the book should be updated. We were not the only ones caught out by this. All in all organisation was a little shoddy. An hour for breakfast at weekends is not enough.

Excellent choice for a last minute visit to Whitby. Stunning views overlooking the sea and a perfect location for exploring everything Whitby has to offer. Super clean and modern room and lovely full English breakfast. Nothing at all to complain about. If you can mange the 199 steps you will be fine here 😁

A great customer service from the confirmation of the booking to leaving. All staff are friendly and helpful, the room was clean and spacious. I think it was the little touches such as Zed coming round at breakfast time checking in with everyone that they are ok.

Comfortable room just a shame there were so many stairs as we are both elderly and found them a little daunting. Breakfasts were delicious, especially the porridge! Furniture in bedroom rather old and dated but all in all a very nice guesthouse.

My top floor room with dormer window had great views out to sea - the payoff being 73 internal stairs in addition to the dozen from street level! I'd previously stayed at this property so was aware of the stairs and the property owner Emma also messaged me at the time of booking to check that there were no mobility issues. After a minor issue around check-in times, I was able to quickly settle in and found my room to be clean and comfortable with good quality bedding and a generous refreshments tray. Supplementary heating was available if required but I found the room was toasty thanks to the afternoon sun. Breakfast choices were made the previous evening and popped into a box in reception. Breakfast service ran smoothly with clear table allocations, a good supply of filter coffee, high quality items in my full English and branded cereals and preserves. Overall, a pleasant stay and I would certainly stay again.

I was informed about being on the 4th floor in advance of my stay, which was not a problem. However, the stairway is steep and has many doors to pass through. The room itself is compromised for height by being in the eaves but not a problem for a solo traveller. Would be a different review if I had been offered this"luxury" double room as a couple

A great customer service from the confirmation of the booking to leaving. All staff are friendly and helpful, the room was clean and spacious. I think it was the little touches such as Zed coming round at breakfast time checking in with everyone that they are ok.

The riviera is in the perfect location, 5 mins to the harbour, but nice and quiet.The hotel room was spotless , of a generous size with an amazing view overlooking the sea. The owners were very welcoming and the breakfast was faultless along with the service which was exceptional. It was our first time here, we will be back definitely, this should be a go to stop for anyone visiting Whitby, thank you.

Fabulous sea front location. Friendly staff. Payable permit parking close by. No lift, so lots of stairs to take into consideration. Overall, good cleanliness, practical room space with all the standard goodies supplied. Excellent breakfast selection also included.

The positives ….. bed was clean bath was clean. Negatives ….. overall very unclean. Public toilet out of order. Staff unhelpful and rude. We were told breakfast was 9am - 10am arrived at 9:10 am to be told breakfast was finished. When we explained what we had been told at check in the response was “ in the twelve years we have had this hotel we have never said that !!!” They then said they may be able to rustle us something up ….. it was terrible. Very poor food. Staff banging stuff down on the table obviously unhappy with us. Coffee was undrinkable. Very dirty breakfast room. Overall our experience was not good. Would definitely not return.

Great service from Riviera. I am especially appreciative of them accommodating my very late arrival and check in. The breakfast was also excellent - I highly recommend the smoked kipper if you want something new and different.

It was amazing, the service and the personal touch was perfect. Really enjoyed the breakfast it’s such a good idea ordering it the night before to save wasting food. All questions were answered straight away and in a friendly way. The room was clean and it had a great selection of tea and coffee with biscuits too. For my first time to Whitby, it was the best place to stay.

The premises was well located and easily accessed. The quality of the rooms was average. The electric shower in our room (9) did not work properly. The book in the room said breakfast was 8 - 9.30 at weekends but when we went down for breakfast at 9.20 we were rather abruptly told we were too late and would have to have continental. At the very least the information in the book should be updated. We were not the only ones caught out by this. All in all organisation was a little shoddy. An hour for breakfast at weekends is not enough.

Very handy for town, my room looked out to see.Friendly staff and excellent breakfast,good choice. Parking was ok,it's disk zone but you can buy permit from them,my four days cost £2 for full stay. Would definitely go again

On the West Cliffs with a lovely view of the sea and the harbour from our third floor room (the stairs were tiring after a long day!). Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. For £3 the guest house can provide a parking card valid for four days in Whitby. We had no trouble parking in the street around the corner.

Excellent choice for a last minute visit to Whitby. Stunning views overlooking the sea and a perfect location for exploring everything Whitby has to offer. Super clean and modern room and lovely full English breakfast. Nothing at all to complain about. If you can mange the 199 steps you will be fine here 😁

I knew there would be stairs to climb, but I didn’t expect it would be eight flights to our room. A warning would have been appreciated. There was a strong smell emanating from the bathroom although the bathroom was clean we had to keep the extractor fan going 24 hours a day to confine the smell to the bathroom. The sheets were too small for the mattress and kept rucking up. It would have been appreciated if we had some help lugging our luggage up and down the stairs no one was available. I am sure that others must have complained about the smell in the bathroom and am surprised nothing has been done about it.

My top floor room with dormer window had great views out to sea - the payoff being 73 internal stairs in addition to the dozen from street level! I'd previously stayed at this property so was aware of the stairs and the property owner Emma also messaged me at the time of booking to check that there were no mobility issues. After a minor issue around check-in times, I was able to quickly settle in and found my room to be clean and comfortable with good quality bedding and a generous refreshments tray. Supplementary heating was available if required but I found the room was toasty thanks to the afternoon sun. Breakfast choices were made the previous evening and popped into a box in reception. Breakfast service ran smoothly with clear table allocations, a good supply of filter coffee, high quality items in my full English and branded cereals and preserves. Overall, a pleasant stay and I would certainly stay again.

A good, clean property with a spacious room. King sized bed roomy but mattress a little soft (but just my preference for a harder mattress). Bathroom very spacious with a bath as well as a shower (I prefer a bath). The owner upgraded us to this room free of charge so that was a lovely gesture. We found the decor a little old fashioned-again not quite our style. Biscuits accompanied our tea/coffee making facilities, a nice touch, but only normal tea and coffee, no herbal teas offered. On arrival the owner told us about the parking permit (very good value £5 for 2days) although we had already put money in a meter across the road from the property so had we known about this beforehand we would not have paid at the meter unnecessarily. (Perhaps I had missed reading such useful info in the blurb beforehand?) The breakfast was very tasty and plentiful although I would have like a croissant and/or pan au chocolat to be offered.

Staff took my suitcase up five floors for me and bought it back down at the end of my hols.lovely clean room, wonderful breakfast of kippers and poached eggs .wonderful view from my room.
