I’ve stayed at City Lodge OR Tambo many times, typically just for one night after arriving on a long flight from the US and then departing to a different city the next day. The bed and pillows are comfortable, excellent water pressure and hot water in the shower, and there are many offerings for food (room service and breakfast buffet) which are all good. I love that there are many water stations throughout the hotel where you can refill your water bottle with cold water. The rooms could have better lighting, especially in the bathrooms which are always sort of dark. My phone didn’t work in the room, and the posted phone number for room service also didn’t seem to be in service so I had to go down to the cafe to order; the person there was very nice and the order was delivered to my room in a timely manner. The gym is a bit neglected - 2 of the 3 treadmills didn’t work today, and the one that did could not be reset so I just continued on the previous person’s workout. Everyone who works at the hotel is very helpful and very professional.

Excellent location for early morning flights. Nescafé instant coffee packets in room. Good range of channels on TV. Clean and comfortable rooms. Black out curtains pretty good. Quiet despite being at airport. Nice outdoor pool and sitting area. Decent cardio equipment in gym but no machines and only light weights. 10 minute walk to international check in.

My husband and I stayed here two nights during our recent trip to South Africa. City Lodge is a nice and convenient airport hotel. It is about a 5 minute walk from the terminal. No shuttle required. The hotel staff were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and courteous. They even allowed us to check out one hour later than the posted time without an extra charge. We found the room to be clean and quiet and the bed comfortable. We ate at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner and the food and service were both good. I used the gym and although small and a little warm since it is open to the outside, it was clean and served it's purpose. Would highly recommend City Lodge for an airport stay and would book again.

I would highly recommend this hotel as it is so close to the airport. The rooms are clean and functional. The food and drinks are delicious. There is a pool and gym. Overall I’m really happy with our stay over.

Last minute reservation when we planned to hang at the airport for our 15 hr layover. But we couldn't recheck our luggage until the next day which meant we couldn't get back in to hang at the Lou ge for a few hrs as planned. Everything would have been 4+ stars except in the room, the shower has mold. Where the shower glass meets the tile has lots of black mold. Seems like the cleaners neglect this area. Looks like it’s been growing awhile.

For the price there was absolutely no Value. I would never stay there again. It’s a Dive. Although extremely convenient. They had absolutely no amenities in the rooms. We had to actually pay for Face/Wash Clothes. No hairdryer. No shampoo/conditioner and it just didn’t feel super clean

House keeping needs to do a better job when it comes to cleaning coffee mugs which are in the room. The mugs which I found in the room had coffee stains on the mug from the previous guests who occupied the room.

We had a problem with our booking due to cancelled flights and the duty manager was so helpful. We asked for a quiet room and indeed the room overlooking the courtyard was very peaceful. The room as always was spotless and the bedding crisp and fresh. Loved the eco friendly toiletries too. Would thoroughly recommend City Lodge at O R Tambo.

Net, maar beetje verouderd hotel. Grootste pluspunt dat je het lopend vanuit de luchthaven kan bereiken zonder naar buiten te gaan. Vriendelijk personeel ook als je pas laat in de avond arriveert. Grootste minpunt: geen stopcontacten in de buurt van het bed.

Good location, decent food and staff was amazing. Biggest downside for me was how dated the room was. For a person with serious sinus issues, it was difficult to breathe due to how dusty it smelled. I suspect the culprit was the dated carpet. I stayed at another City Lodge and even though they still used the same decor, just removing that carpet and putting in floor boards made a world of difference. Please consider this!

see the score; 1 negative thing: we did stay 4 times at yourplace. All 4 times the room was too hot ,( over 22 degrees C. The airco is not capable to get the room fresh. We took out the inside of the duvee and slept under the sheets. Geeting up in the morning at 5 o' clock, sitting 11 hours in a plain and going to bed at 1 o'clock at night is bad. Noisy room due to car park noise above (4115 I think it’s at the end so avoid it if you can). We changed rooms as we could not sleep. However the changed room had a double rather than 2 singles so was not so comfy.

Must stay for all three times was pretty decent – I felt service in the restaurants were very slow and sometimes not at all quick – many times I had to get up and get my own coffee or walk and find the waitress in order to pay so I could leave, but the food was very good. I truly enjoyed my stay and when I come back to Johannesburg, I will be staying at city Lodge.

Everything was great apart from Breakfast service. I booked stay with breakfast. Were there at 4am as flight out at 6am. Staff prepping at omelet/egg counter and totally blanked me and then 2 of them went to the back. Nobody came round to take my coffee order. Had toast and apple juice then left

On expedia breakfast was noted as included. At the breakfast we had to pay. After showing the Expedia booking with the remark of breakfast included, the reception would not change their opinon. At last the waiter let us in for breakfast but at checkout the receptionist stated we still had to pay for breakfast. Very negative customer support while the hotel is overal good. Unbelievable how the staff did (not) resolve the issue.

The room was nice and beds good but unfortunately the dinner was discusting. I took the special South African dish and the beef was not fresh, the sausage not fully cooked, the chicken a little smelly. I should have returned the whole meal but the vegetables and fries were okay and we were tired.

Really great hotel if you are transitting via JNB airport as we were. Staff were welcoming, hotel was clean airy bright and modern. Our room was clean and comfortable We were able to check in on arrival which was great too. Food selection was very good and the buffet breakfast was excellent!
