We booked this hotel in hopes to unwind after Tokyo and Kyoto, but that was a mistake. Our room ( in main building) was large with a tatami tea area and a terrace with a private onsen that we had looked forward to. But (what seemed to be a worn out pump) made a comically loud and piercing, high-pitched noise that felt like tinnitus. We could even hear it in bed with the terrace door closed. When talking to the receptionist she already had her own video of the noise, so we assume they knew of the problem. They still concluded nothing was wrong with the room and continues to rent it out. After several requests we were moved to a small room in the annex (the dog area). The onsen there was better, but not the relaxing experience we had hoped for. We ended up checking out a day early, even though they couldn’t refund us for the last night. As we left, a receptionist apologized unprompted and admitted some rooms are run-down. We had read the poor reviews about the food there, but figured it would be ok as we are not picky. We chose the largest menu option and it was by far our most expensive meal of the trip. We couldn't finish a single of the roughly 10 dishes, because it was all so bad. The hotel is remote, and with taxis slow to arrive in the mountains, going elsewhere for dinner wasn't realistic. If you travel with your dog and don’t care about the dining experience, it is likely an ok place. If you have functional hearing, like good food and to relax, skip this one

The room was okay, but nothing special. It didn’t really match the photos, which made it look much nicer than it actually was. Overall, the hotel was overpriced for what it offered and didn’t feel like good value for money.
