Pool was not functional, room was okay. This motel needs a refresh in the rooms. The breakfast provided was questionable. The location lakeside was amazing so it was a shame the rooms were in a poor condition.

The room was clean and there was a deck to sit on overlooking the water. It's located right on the TCH so it is easily accessible. It's also only a minute from the start of the Cabot Trail if you're doing it clockwise and maybe 20 mins from the start if you go counter clockwise. All in all would stay there again.

The staff was really accommodating and friendly. Property was older but rooms were clean and very spacious. They had fuse ball and ping pong and was great for kids!

Nice lakeside view. Comfortable beds. Need more hooks in bathroom. Had 2 chairs in the room plus a desk chair and long desk area. No place to put our big suutcases. 1 chair and office chair would be enough. Breakfast didn't start til 7:30, and therefore a rush of people at that time, as everyone wanted to get on the road. Needs to start at 7. Good breakfast options and nice dining room. Laundry facilities were awful. Water just triggled into the washing machines...had 2 of washers and 2 dryers. We used both. Took 2.5 hours to do 1 load each. Also the room needed a good cleaning. Didn't want to put our clean laundry on tables to fold.

Rooms were clean and tastefully decorated. The property has lots of parking. There is a laundromat onsite for guests as well but the room needed some cleaning. The check process was ok, they did not ask me for an id which I found odd. The property manager was not available during our 3 day stay, if there was an emergency you needed to call their cell, this was not convenient for non-emergencies.

Staff were very nice and attentive to issues that could be resolved. Pool appeared out of order as water was green and slimy. It should be identified that pool was not operational prior to booking. Room heat was controlled by thermostat in hallway. Breakfast was hot and plentiful but poor quality sausage and eggs. Attempted to have shower but no water because I assume everyone was using it in other rooms. Grounds were mowed. Pop machine out of order and kids that seemed to live there were playing in ice machine. Tv channels almost unwatchable-lots of static. Not worth the cost!

We had a great experience staying at the Trailsman Lodge. We had a wonderful Lake view even with a last minute reservation. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was included which was a great bonus and very yummy.

The property is in a nice location by the lake. However , it’s time for the owner to invest some money in upgrades ! When you pay approx $. 200 a night you don’t expect dirt around the toilet and black around the moldings ! Also , there was a part missing from the shower making it difficult to turn on !! In addition , the shower curtain was soiled along the bottom with soap scum !! Overall the room was very outdated !! I’m not sure how there were so many high ratings ?!

Cleanliness was not to my standard. Hair in the sheets feces on toilet mould around tub and floor sticky. The bbq facilities were not equipped with propane was advised they would refill but didnt happen the next day. Breakfast was good though with some hot selections.

The Trailsman Motel was fair. Pros: The property on the lake is lovely, the rooms are a good size, the room was clean, the bed comfortable, the breakfast room was large and bright. Cons: the walls are paper thin. I could hear EVERYTHING in the room next door, even snoring and bodily functions and he was not a particularly loud person. Frankly I’m not sure what can be done about it. The breakfast was disappointing as well. The fruit looked and tasted like it had been served several days in a row. The pineapple had brown spots all over it. The hashbrown patties and the sausage also tasted like they had been leftover and reheated from the day before. Luckily there was cereal and yogurt. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it.

We had a nice stay while we explored Cape Breton over 4 days. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok but you weren’t allowed to take a plate to your room, not sure why. Sometimes the breakfast room was very busy so I would have appreciated being able to take a plate to my room. Other hotels provide a tray for you to do that. No microwave in room but one was available in the common area.

Nice property. A bit dated but clean. The advertisement stated that it would be a lake view, but upon checking in we weren’t given a lake view. We had to pay an extra $10 as the gentleman checking us in said it was up to his discretion as to where to put customers. Not a big deal, but a bit of false advertising going on and we booked months in advance. The stretch of the motel with the lake view wasn’t even at max capacity, so why not just give it to us anyhow? Read reviews that the breakfast was good, ours was horrible. My spouse and I would definitely stay here again, though. We really loved relaxing outside our room on the deck, while looking at the lake/ocean and I enjoyed the pool. Again, dated, but very clean. The only reason I gave a low rating for safety is because the door didn’t lock. Overall, I recommend this place if you love being outside and love water.

We were not given the room we booked and payed for. None available was what we were told, but we would get it for our second night. Didn’t happen, the owner said he forgot, the clerk said the room wasn’t available. The second morning there was no water pressure, no one got to shower in the entire place. The room was somewhat renovated, but didn’t feel clean. And they didn’t clean it at all the second day. Gave us clean towels and that was it. Front desk had no comment and didn’t offer to have it cleaned. They wouldn’t give a printed receipt, said they would email it at 11 that morning. Three days later and still waiting. The breakfast was okay, but they don’t serve real bacon or sausages. The turkey bacon the first day tasted like cardboard and we still aren’t sure what the sausages were. We checked out a day early and was happy to pay a little more for a decent place. The best thing about this place is the view of the water, but the large trucks constantly on the highway right beside the hotel ruined the location. It’s less expensive than most hotels in the area and there’s a reason for that. My advice is pay a little more and get a decent place. These people don’t give a hoot about good service or integrity.

Terrible Experience – Would Never Stay Here Again. From the moment we arrived, our experience at this hotel was disappointing. The receptionist made us extremely uncomfortable by asking, “Which part of India are you from?” which was completely inappropriate and unnecessary question. When we clarified that we are not from India, his tone and attitude changed noticeably, which felt very disrespectful and unprofessional. The room itself was in terrible condition. There were bugs flying around everywhere, the refrigerator didn’t work, and later that night we discovered it was leaking; the floor was soaked and I actually slipped while going to the washroom. To make matters worse, the air conditioner made a constant loud, rattling noise all night, making it impossible to sleep properly. On top of that, there were no basic amenities like hand soap, toothbrushes or toothpaste provided. Overall, it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Poor service, unhygienic room conditions and unwelcoming staff. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place.

Staff in the front desk or in the office it's hard to talk to. He is not approachable honestly. We booked as early of July to make it sure we have nice and comfy room. But he gave us the older room and it is at the back of the lodge no separate parking. Even the fridge you can't put your food looks dirty. The room is no.59 we go call him and I said we cant stay here we want a comfortable room since we book early and we are 2 nights there. He said we don't have room. He kept me waiting. I said I want room in-front of your lodge the one that posted in your account. Thats why I booked here beacuse you have a cozy and comfy room.so he gave me no.6 room it is a big different to the room no. 59. Looks that guy is racist. Sorry to say but thats what we feel.

I said I want room in-front of your lodge the one that posted in your account. Thats why I booked here beacuse you have a cozy and comfy room.so he gave me no.6 room it is a big different to the room no. 59. Looks that guy is racist. Sorry to say but thats what we feel.

Good experience overall! We checked in late and received warm welcome at the office was upgraded to Lakeview room. The owner was very courteous and was supervising breakfast himself. Breakfast is worth mentioning- fresh and with a view! I would recommend to my friends and family!

Great location for our family travel purposes, Trailsman Lodge & Restaurant located at near the beginning of Cabot trail, it is a convenient spot for either count-clocks or clockwise directions traveling in Cape Breton. The lodge runs by a really kind and hard working family, willing to attend any requests. We all very satisfied with the service and our four nights stay were so relaxing and joyful!

The room was clean and there was a deck to sit on overlooking the water. It's located right on the TCH so it is easily accessible. It's also only a minute from the start of the Cabot Trail if you're doing it clockwise and maybe 20 mins from the start if you go counter clockwise. All in all would stay there again.

The motel was isolated about 10 minutes by car from Bedeck. The room was clean but run down. The restaurant did offer a decent free breakfast but was closed after 10 AM. We needed to drive 10 to 20 minutes to find a restaurant. People were accommodating but offered little in the way of suggestions for activities.

This is the second time I've stayed at this property i stayed here 6 years ago also to do the Cabot Trail, its close to baddeck and to where you enter the trail the breakfast was excellent at the motel ,its right on the water so relaxing to sit out at night lots of chairs on the deck outside the rooms, rooms were clean, staff very friendly the only complaint i have is the the air conditioner is quite loud but we managed everything else was terrific i would stay here again.

The Trailsman Motel was fair. Pros: The property on the lake is lovely, the rooms are a good size, the room was clean, the bed comfortable, the breakfast room was large and bright. Cons: the walls are paper thin. I could hear EVERYTHING in the room next door, even snoring and bodily functions and he was not a particularly loud person. Frankly I’m not sure what can be done about it. The breakfast was disappointing as well. The fruit looked and tasted like it had been served several days in a row. The pineapple had brown spots all over it. The hashbrown patties and the sausage also tasted like they had been leftover and reheated from the day before. Luckily there was cereal and yogurt. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it.

The area behind the building was fantastic for relaxing. The substitute bacon for breakfast on our second day absolutely terrible. It didn’t taste like bacon and had the texture of cardboard. Please do not serve it to anyone.

We had a nice stay while we explored Cape Breton over 4 days. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok but you weren’t allowed to take a plate to your room, not sure why. Sometimes the breakfast room was very busy so I would have appreciated being able to take a plate to my room. Other hotels provide a tray for you to do that. No microwave in room but one was available in the common area.
