The building was historically interesting and set in a lovely garden. There was some building work and renovation going on which meant the carpark was not as big due to building materials etc. The wifi was non existant which meant we could not watch any TV or use the wifi on our phones / laptop. The twin room was very small with no drawers or wardrobe to store clothes. There was a small rail suitable for hanging 'short clothing! The single beds were comfortable. The tea and coffee tray was ok and there was a biscuit and sachet of hot chocolate per person. The staff were friendly. I think the price was expensive for what we got.

Good points…Loved the staff and had excellent communication throughout the stay. The well fitted bathroom was spotless and the shower was great. You have to pre-order breakfast the night before but it is hot and well cooked. The lady serving breakfast was excellent. Nice areas to sit downstairs and chat. The age of the building means it is quirky and interesting. It has been renovated very sympathetically. Bad points…The bedroom was very small and the two single beds were placed end to end so felt like a school trip. No wardrobe in the room just some pegs over a shelf and I struggled to use the mirror which was propped up on the desk. No room at all to put our cases. There are no staff in the hotel if you arrive after they leave in the early evening so you have to self check-in. Instructions to locate your key and room are comprehensive but could put people off.

It is a lovely place, quite quirky but that work is in is favour. We had to self check in because the reception was closed but that wasn’t an issue as there were clear instructions including what we wanted for breakfast. The restaurant was closed for refurbishment I think but the Old Barn is just across the road and serving good food for a reasonable price so no issues. Breakfast was nice too. Overall I would recommend. I would imagine it will be fantastic in the summer when the bat and restaurant is open and you can sit in the garden.

Comfortable and clean and smartly decorated with a good modern bathroom. Good breakfast and friendly staff. All good. I've left off a star on staff simply because the hotel seems to be generally unmanned so if anything were needed and not obviously available (eg replenish tea bags) it might be difficult. But we had no such issues. Ditto left off a star on facilities as this is currently a B&B without restaurant but there is the Old Barn over the road (but not every day) and maybe the restaurant will reopen one day. But bottom line is we had a great stay!

Wonderful stay whilst we explored Hay on Wye for a few days which was a short drive away. Very comfortable and clean and lovely cooked breakfast although not much continental selection. Had an open fire inside the entrance where you could sit and relax. We managed to lock ourselves out of our room leaving the key inside and the property were contacted easily and they gave us a spare key to get back in. We would stay again. Only tip for staying is to book restaurants nearby and research in advance as we struggled on the Sunday to find somewhere for an evening meal lots of local places stop serving Sunday lunch at around 3-4pm. There is also a lovely garden centre with a restaurant a short distance from here.

Fabulous room and excellent breakfast. We can’t recommend this hotel enough. It is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. Such a quirky old building has been updated to a very high standard whilst still retaining the charm of the original beams and uneven floors. The lit stove in the reception gave a warm welcome each time we entered. The staff were really lovely, friendly and helpful. A very relaxed stay, I hope we will be able to visit again.

A great place to stay. Very quirky and you could tell that the place had a lot of history. Very clean and tidy and beautifully maintained. The only issue we had was the TV did not work well in the room we stayed in (4) as it kept losing the signal and buffering.

We had an excellent stay at the Three Cocks Hotel. The hotel is very well furnished, exceptionally clean, super comfortable, and cosy. Jessica and the team were very helpful and accommodating - the breakfast was lovely. Location-wise it was perfect to get into Hay-on-Wye by car and taxi (but do book ahead of time).

Problem with toilet flush, maybe not a major concern for most people but a bit of a problem for me following cancer surgery. However they gave us free breakfast to make amends so guess these things happen

Stayed one night at the Three Cocks. It's a charming property and immaculately clean. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. The breakfast was perfectly sized and very tasty. My only gripe was the lack of water pressure in the shower, but it certainly wouldn't put me off booking again. I look forward to staying again next time I am in the area. Many thanks.

The B&B was a last minute booking to break a journey up. So glad we selected this property. The house was very well presented. Rooms had everything you could need including plenty of space. We opted for breakfast and that was excellent value. Despite the property being located next to a busy main road it was really well insulated for sound with very little to no disturbance. The area had lots of routes and walks plus the pub opposite was really hospitable for an evening meal and drink.

No wardrobe in the room just some pegs over a shelf and I struggled to use the mirror which was propped up on the desk. No room at all to put our cases. There are no staff in the hotel if you arrive after they leave in the early evening so you have to self check-in. Instructions to locate your key and room are comprehensive but could put people off.

A great place to stay. Very quirky and you could tell that the place had a lot of history. Very clean and tidy and beautifully maintained. The only issue we had was the TV did not work well in the room we stayed in (4) as it kept losing the signal and buffering.

The whole hotel is absolutely beautiful . The Rooms are stunning and spacious. The ladies on reception went above and beyond . Will definitely like to stay again when we are back in the area .

What an amazing hotel! Stumbled upon it by accident and I’m so glad I did, I slept so peacefully in the magnificent bed. The whole place has been decorated beautifully and maintained the character of the building!

Comfortable and clean and smartly decorated with a good modern bathroom. Good breakfast and friendly staff. All good. I've left off a star on staff simply because the hotel seems to be generally unmanned so if anything were needed and not obviously available (eg replenish tea bags) it might be difficult. But we had no such issues. Ditto left off a star on facilities as this is currently a B&B without restaurant but there is the Old Barn over the road (but not every day) and maybe the restaurant will reopen one day. But bottom line is we had a great stay!

Wonderful stay whilst we explored Hay on Wye for a few days which was a short drive away. Very comfortable and clean and lovely cooked breakfast although not much continental selection. Had an open fire inside the entrance where you could sit and relax. We managed to lock ourselves out of our room leaving the key inside and the property were contacted easily and they gave us a spare key to get back in. We would stay again. Only tip for staying is to book restaurants nearby and research in advance as we struggled on the Sunday to find somewhere for an evening meal lots of local places stop serving Sunday lunch at around 3-4pm. There is also a lovely garden centre with a restaurant a short distance from here.

Fabulous room and excellent breakfast. We can’t recommend this hotel enough. It is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. Such a quirky old building has been updated to a very high standard whilst still retaining the charm of the original beams and uneven floors. The lit stove in the reception gave a warm welcome each time we entered. The staff were really lovely, friendly and helpful. A very relaxed stay, I hope we will be able to visit again.

This is the ideal B&B! It was a wonderfully maintained property. It was historic yet clean, nicely decorated and everything in working order. The property is beautiful and the kind of place we could have stayed for much longer. The owners and family were involved in their business and made us feel very welcome starting with the text messages before our arrival confirming when we'd arrive so they'd be prepared for us to the conversation with us at breakfast helping with things to do in the area as well as the rest of our first visit to Wales. Only wish all the places we stayed at during our visit to Wales were like this one! We highly recommend staying at this property!! So far all the sight seeing recommendations were spot on! Thanks for them and your wonderful hospitality!!

The B&B was a last minute booking to break a journey up. So glad we selected this property. The house was very well presented. Rooms had everything you could need including plenty of space. We opted for breakfast and that was excellent value. Despite the property being located next to a busy main road it was really well insulated for sound with very little to no disturbance. The area had lots of routes and walks plus the pub opposite was really hospitable for an evening meal and drink.

We had to self check in because the reception was closed but that wasn’t an issue as there were clear instructions including what we wanted for breakfast. The restaurant was closed for refurbishment I think but the Old Barn is just across the road and serving good food for a reasonable price so no issues. Breakfast was nice too. Overall I would recommend. I would imagine it will be fantastic in the summer when the bat and restaurant is open and you can sit in the garden.

We had an excellent stay at the Three Cocks Hotel. The hotel is very well furnished, exceptionally clean, super comfortable, and cosy. Jessica and the team were very helpful and accommodating - the breakfast was lovely. Location-wise it was perfect to get into Hay-on-Wye by car and taxi (but do book ahead of time).

A beautiful hotel with so much character and charm. No floor was straight and the walls thick with history!! Beautifully kept and decorated to a tasteful high standard. The welcome was warm. The team were helpful friendly and fun. Everything felt opulent and quirky. The breakfast was delicious. The sausage and bacon were a high quality meat. Cooked to perfection. Not too fatty ( which I hate). The coffee was a decent strength and seemingly endless ( a little like this review ?!!). One thing I’d change a nearby evening meal but if fairness Hay is only a 5 min drive away. Only fault was …. Where’s the ghost ?!! Didn’t see one and the 3 Cocks must be haunted !!!! Loved it there and will be returning and recommending to others

We managed to lock ourselves out of our room leaving the key inside and the property were contacted easily and they gave us a spare key to get back in. We would stay again. Only tip for staying is to book restaurants nearby and research in advance as we struggled on the Sunday to find somewhere for an evening meal lots of local places stop serving Sunday lunch at around 3-4pm. There is also a lovely garden centre with a restaurant a short distance from here.
Wonderful stay whilst we explored Hay on Wye for a few days which was a short drive away. Very comfortable and clean and lovely cooked breakfast although not much continental selection. Had an open fire inside the entrance where you could sit and relax. Fabulous room and excellent breakfast. We can’t recommend this hotel enough. It is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. Such a quirky old building has been updated to a very high standard whilst still retaining the charm of the original beams and uneven floors. The lit stove in the reception gave a warm welcome each time we entered. The staff were really lovely, friendly and helpful. A very relaxed stay, I hope we will be able to visit again.

Really clean property which is decorated simply but beautifully. Really helpful / friendly staff. Hotel offers breakfast but we didn’t get it so can’t comment on that. There’s no restaurant or bar so I’d just remember to bring your own food or there’s one pub with simple options opposite.

Lovely place. Only saw staff member at breakfast - no reception. Superb building. Either my TV didn't work or I couldn't work it. Could do with better signage outside - no hotel name visible

Restaurant og bar var lukket og under ombygning uden at vi havde fået det at vide ved bookning!! Badeværelses døren faldt af midt om natten da skruerne i hængslet ikke kunne holde! Fint og rent men det er ikke i orden at tage fuld pris for et 4 stjernet hotel når restauranten og baren er under ombygning!!

Absolutely delightful hotel. Me and a friend booked a room each for the Hay Festival, and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. The staff were wonderful; helpful, friendly, even showed us to our rooms. The location was great, not too far away but far enough that I’d was quiet and tranquil. The breakfast is well worth the money, as is the Old Barn pub across the road, where we ate that night. A fantastic stay, I can’t wait to return with my husband next time.
