The resort area was huge, I really liked the trails that lead to the 5 waterfalls in the resort area, though the trails can get really muddy if it rains. The sunset pool was under renovation. The buildings are a bit outdated, but the room itself was nice and spacious, and had good amenities. Terrace had sunbeds, and the view was towards the city of San Jose. Note that there’s no air con, only a fan. I can warmly recommend also the spa. Staff was extremely friendly, and I found my one night stay a peaceful moment before the long flight home.

Beautiful hotel and grounds, fabulous room! Restaurant service wasn't fast but food was good. Lovely hiking trails, I even saw toucans! Only downside was the spa was closed for maintenance and we planned a day in the spa. They did offer in room massage which was lovely

The property and the grounds are beautiful! The restaurant is amazing! Kudos to the chefs! Every meal was great! Kendall and Oscar were our servers each day we were there and they were the nicest and most attentive people! Truly kind and welcoming and exceeded all expectations of a server. Note, Oscar makes the best White Russian! The pools and hot tubs are very well maintained. Hiking around their grounds, do beware! It is a lot of up and down, deep steps, and a lot more vigorous than we expected! Hiking boots are a must! No sandals or flip flops. I also suggest you let the front staff know you’re going (and when you get back) as once you are out there, you are screwed if something happens. When it’s rained, it is muddy, slippery, and can be dangerous. We are not the most physically fit people being in our late 50s but, we did it and at times it was rough. Note there are also no ATM machines at the hotel or nearby! If you don’t already have cash, there is no way to tip this well deserving staff! Plan some tours as it will get boring as there is not much to do here. The hotel will help you with that as well. We loved it there and hope to return someday.

I really can't say enough good things about them - one thing in particular that was very nice was the fact room service didn't cost any more than the dining at the restaurant. Additionally, the property is gorgeous and the waterfalls are breathtaking! A couple of watch outs - if you are sensitive to sound the planes going over the property will be an annoying distraction. Also, in general the property is a little tired - tiles are coming up on the pools, the lighting in some places doesn't work, and the grounds need a little work. Their spa services are earnest, but lacking in western professional techniques. But I am very critical - I think most folks would have a lovely time. We stayed 10 days - I think better to keep it to 7 or less.

Beautiful and quiet resort to escape a world of technology. Amazing views over the city. Wifi not so effective throughout the property but that was more time to unplug. There's only one restaurant with the same menu for Lunch and Dinner and adds up fast, so have Uber eats ready. Also bring your own snacks. Take the time and Bamboo stick to the Waterfalls and Jungle. End your last day with the Jacuzzi Massage combo. They ALL were great.

This wonderful property has amazing views and plenty of activities to enjoy from waterfalls to the farm where they grow their food as well as multiple pools with beautiful views and personal villas that provide privacy and comfort! All of the staff members were extremely pleasant and very helpful with booking spa experiences as well as helping with anything you wanted or needed outside of the resort. We want to especially thank Mario who is such a beautiful soul and an amazing host. He made our stay fun and relaxing!

Xandari exceeded our expectations. The service was exceptional. The grounds were also amazing. We did the waterfalls hike and that was super fun and it was a great work out. I had a 90 minute deep tissue massage and Irene was fricking awesome. I also loved the massage room. It was open to the rainforest with a city view. Also our room was fabulous! I highly recommend staying at the Xandari. We chose to stay there our last night because it was close to the airport and we ended up with such a treat.

Xandari Resorts and Spa was an excellent experience. I would highly recommend booking a few days towards the end of your trip as this is a great place to “unwind”. The property has beautiful hiking trails, a spa and beautiful pools. The staff were very hospitable and accommodating. Thank you Mario, Erica, Evelyn, Crystal, Joshua, Alexander, Nancy and the rest of the Xandari staff for making our stay here memorable. I look forward to visiting again.

I have been four times to the xandari and was very disappointed. The property has gone downhill, the furniture was scratched and is just the same.. very dated, the maid did not even sweep up the many bugs

Overall the stay at this resort was wonderful. The property was clean, the staff friendly and the location was beautiful if you want to feel like you are in or near the rainforest. The only compliant I have are the bugs. Some will make it into your villa so please be prepared but this should be expected due to the location being in the middle of the trees, you are in THEIR home. The pool was clean and the trails easy to navigate. If you stay here definitely visit the spa as the view and sounds of the area make it an experience you will never forget! Overall a great place to stay!

The property was very nice; there is a lot to do on the resort itself theres 3 pools, small farms with plants and animals and some trails. Our lights went out halfway and then completely on the first night but the staff fixed it quickly. The property was very clean and the staff was very nice and friendly. We also booked a tour through the hotel to La Fortuna and Luis was our guide HE WAS AMAZING, very nice man kind and good hearted if you go on a tour request him you will not be disappointed i enjoyed my day with him as our guide and if i go back id request him!

Rooms need to be updated and modernized. Lavatory fixtures were loose. The pillows were terrible. Coffee provided in the rooms was decaf only. The shower was great!

Staff was extremely accommodating and location close to airport and Central Market area of Alajuela. Property was clean and intimate setting. Therefore not busy/crowded onsite. Did hear some dogs barking but not enough to keep me up at night as previously saw in some other reviews. Room was nice and do not expect access to a television in the room. There are games and a television room available in the lobby area. Lack of tv did not deter my stay as I was able to relax and keep self occupied during stay. Resort driver, Luis was excellent and transported safely to destination.

We loved our stay at the Xandari Resort and spa! staff was insanely friendly and the property was beautiful. our only issue was the ants that seemed to never go away in our villa. Overall we loved it and definitely will be back!

An amazing property to stay at if you have a quick 24-36 hour layover in Costa Rica. The staff is polite and attentive, the rooms are incredibly designed to provide a cultural feel with eco sensitivities, and the best part is that the property has about 2-3 hours of hiking available on the grounds Will come back next time I'm flying through SJO

Xandari is a unique and special place - magical! The grounds are extensive for a resort with a relatively small number of rooms. The private balconies are south facing with views and sunbeds. The walks around the estate take you through rainforest and along a gushing river to lovely waterfalls - you would never expect to find such trails in hotel grounds! The views from the open air restaurant were wonderful and the food delicious. We were there for just 2 nights and so did not have enough time to take advantage of the swimming pools. But we did use the spa - the treatments were lovely and the double outdoor rooms with hot tub perfect for couples. The location is ideal for a final few days of relaxation before flying home as it is just 20 minutes from the airport. Our stay at Xandari was a last minute change to our plans and we were so glad we booked it - a final taste of paradise before leaving Costa Rica.

The location is ideal for a final few days of relaxation before flying home as it is just 20 minutes from the airport. Our stay at Xandari was a last minute change to our plans and we were so glad we booked it - a final taste of paradise before leaving Costa Rica.

This is a beautiful property. The grounds are spectacular. The rooms are full of colorful art. The room is spacious and comfortable. The spa is enjoyable and affordable. The restaurant is delicious. Every room has a gorgeous view. This is not an "American" hotel, so not luxurious on that scale, but it is definitely one of my favorite spots to stay whenever I\'m in Costa Rica.

The property is beautiful with a 3 mile hike around the outer perimeter you can see five waterfalls, but the hiking is difficult with around 700 stairs in total. But well worth it. Rooms are nice but only one fan in the living and none in the bedroom, so it was hot. Food was okay, wait staff not very friendly.

Location wasn’t great, very limited restaurant options in the area. The hotel is very dated and linens/curtains in the room were old and dirty. Staff wasn’t very friendly and when asked about the hot tub availability they mentioned to us that the only open one was in the spa at an additional fee but we were told initially they had other hot tubs available at no additional cost. When asked about additional umbrellas we were told they didn’t have any extra ones. Staff at the restaurant were also unfriendly and the buffet was mediocre. All the trails were closed because of the rain but they don’t seem to provide maintenance to some of them.

Beautiful property on the hill overlooking San José. Rooms were large and private with views as well. Gracious staff. Luis welcomed us warmly and graciously. Trail to waterfalls on the property. Super cute goats. We had amazing views when eating a delicious breakfast and dinners while watching the birds and lightening storms. Highly recommend.

Exceptional and breathtaking are the best words to describe this property! The staff here were so friendly and very accommodating to our needs. Karla works the front desk and was so helpful and Luis is the best driver, tour guide and photographer we could ask for! 10/10 would recommend this place to everyone!

My stay at Xandari was beyond my expectations. I come from a very loud city where quietness does not exist . Being here made me feel at peace. The staff is super kind and helpful. Karla and Daniel always went out of their ways to provide my fiancé and I as much assistance as they can. They always went above and beyond. The restaurant and staff always provided kind and helpful service. They made our stay very relaxing and pleasant. Thank you to all of Xandari team. I will definitely stay here again.

Luis and Maurice were very professional and helpful during our stay. Luis helped us with arranging activities and transportation. Maurice served us during breakfast and dinner and a lady who was always smiling and gracious. The ladies who cleaned our rooms provided towels and toiletries when needed. The spa service was excellent! When it rained hard, water did enter through the front door. So I am sure it needs to be sealed. Overall, the stay was refreshing and the scenery and grounds are beautiful.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay. I truly loved the view from my villa. I appreciated the trails, eclectic atmosphere and art work. Sherri, Karla and other staff in reception were gracious and accommodating. My driver's, Luis and Flavio were the best!! Joseline at the spa was absolutely amazing!🤗 Hacienda Doka and La Paz Waterfall Garden are must see adventures and knowledge gathering experiences. The only disappointments were the consistent overhead noise of airplanes due to being so close to San Jose airport, the cost of transportation for the excursions were not adequately explained and that they, Xandari were unwilling to refund me a nights stay because I checked out earlier than my Expedia booking. The economy is tight and losing over three hundred dollars despite spending close to a thousand at the resort alone not including the cost of the trip in it's entirety was extremely unfair, non-customer friendly, and very unscrupulous. 😕 I will return to CR but never again at Xandari! And I will never book trips through Expedia. 😡 Pura vida y gracias por Todo.

Xandari exceeded our expectations. The service was exceptional. The grounds were also amazing. We did the waterfalls hike and that was super fun and it was a great work out. I had a 90 minute deep tissue massage and Irene was fricking awesome. I also loved the massage room. It was open to the rainforest with a city view. Also our room was fabulous! I highly recommend staying at the Xandari. We chose to stay there our last night because it was close to the airport and we ended up with such a treat.

I can’t even begin to explain how wonderful Xandari Resort is. My friend and I stayed here for a week to celebrate her birthday. This is truly the best resort experience I have ever had. The service is of the highest quality- the staff are beyond friendly and accommodating. The property itself is stunning kind. Apart from the gorgeous views and hiking trails with 5 waterfalls, the room, pools, and common spaces are in themselves works of art!! There is so much detail, thought, and love put into making the place so special. The spa is also incredible- we used it on our last day after check out, as we had a late flight. The massage was top notch, as was the view from the spa! The food— AMAZING. All veggies are grown on site. Truly every meal was over the top delicious. The presentation was also excellent every time! The food is made with fresh ingredients and love, and it shows. We ate there everyday! The property is also very safe and secure - they check every car coming in and out and also have a reliable taxi service, as Uber often cancelled and left us hanging. If you love yourself and care for your loved ones, stay here. It’s truly a gem and easily the best resort/lodging experience I’ve had by far!!

A very nice resort. One explanation for future guests. Some previous visitors complained about airplane noise (it's close to the airport) and local dogs barking. Pretty much between 10:30pm and 6:30am, this is not a problem, only before and after. If you time it right, you can get a good 8 hours of sleep in.

We stayed here on our first and last day in Costa Rica via San Jose airport. While the hotel is a little out of the way from the airport, the property alone is a small wonder in and of itself. Beautiful surroundings and well kept walking trails and waterfalls. The staff is wonderful. The rooms are huge and very comfortable with everything you need and magnificent views. We loved staying here.

Xandari was far from many of the other places that we wanted to visit. Not near a beac or ocean. We did take two tours that were very nice but the transportation expense and time to get there was prohibitive.

Stunning property 15 minutes from airport. You are surrounded by incredible foliage, gorgeous landscapes, incredible views and a one of a kind spa with views. And of course, Tico hospitality! Thank you. We’ll be back!

Beautiful property & area. The staff & people working there are wonderful & nice. You get exactly what you come there for. Quietness & peace. No entertainment or interaction with others. Also, nothing near to walk to.. U should take an Uber to other areas & restuarants. But overall a lovely & peaceful resort. Thank You Xandari!

Xandari was awesome! We loved the villa, the property, the people and the food! The views are spectacular and food was super fresh. My family loved the spacious villa and walking around the grounds. It’s also very convenient to the San Jose airport. We loved it so much we came back at the end of our trip to stay another couple of nights!

A great remote, quiet and serene facility with beautiful views. The facility has five beautiful waterfalls within the property that are nice to visit. The unit was nicely furnished, and had a unique colors and furnishings. The drawback was that it was a little far from any walkable restaurant or other facilities, no television inside the rooms, no air conditioning just the fan, and the water pressure in the bathroom was horrible. Barely a little dribble of water would come out of the showerhead. It was brought to the attention of the hotel staff, but they stated that that is as good as he got. I might consider staying at this facility again if I cannot find something better in the area.

Great property. The staff is great. Luis in the restaurant and Luis at front desk really helped us. It’s quaint and quiet - the sunset pool is warm and a gorgeous view. The location is great - close to airport and Poás Volcano. We did the hike on the property with the waterfalls and was beautiful. Be sure to check the timing of your visit to Poas so the volcano isn’t clouded over.

There's only one restaurant with the same menu for Lunch and Dinner and adds up fast, so have Uber eats ready. Also bring your own snacks. Take the time and Bamboo stick to the Waterfalls and Jungle. End your last day with the Jacuzzi Massage combo. They ALL were great.

Overall, we had a great stay. Room was very spacious and beds very comfortable. I do wish they had a TV and microwave in room! Staff very humble and helpful at all times. Also, you had to order room service by 8:30 pm. In addition, you had to make a reservation for breakfast and dinner everyday. Restaurant food needs an upgrade but gallo pinto was the best traditional food for breakfast. Also food was quite expensive, much like the US. We did much better eating off the resort at traditional Costa Rican restaurants. Soda places were the best and very inexpensive. Like three orders with drinks for $30 US or less depending on what you ordered. Foods were well seasoned and very filling. When it comes to shopping be prepared, Costa Rica is very expensive. We booked a few tours and the driver Luis Madrigal made our stay! He is a great driver and very knowledgeable about Costa Rica! We do not speak Spanish but found it very easy to communicate with Luis through the Google Translate App. If you ever visit ask for Luis, you will not regret it. We had Don Fabio one day as our driver and he was great as well. Not much English but we did okay communicating with using translation app.

The property is absolutely beautiful. We stayed in one of the villas and it was an amazing experience. The views were magnificent, the room was so comfy and large. The open rain shower next to the enclosed patio makes you feel you are showering in the jungle. The trails and waterfalls were gorgeous. We used to walk the trail every morning and it was breathtaking. The restaurant offered complementary breakfast and optional lunch and dinner. The food was incredible! Everything we ordered was top quality and very delicious. They use natural locally grown ingredients and spices and this makes the food taste so good. The fruit is so fresh and sweet. Everyone that works at the resort was amazing and makes us feel very welcome and accommodating. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was an incredible experience and it certainly was! Thank you Xandari and all the staff for making our first Costa Rica vacation an unforgettable adventure! Can’t wait to get back! Pura Vida!

The room was very clean , and made everyday ,the staff was very kind and always there to help . The spa staff was great and very professional. Breakfast and dinner options are great . The views from this property is very breathe taking . Thanks to every one there I will be taking my entire family back .

There isn't a tv, or phone inside of the room. They only provided a hand and face towel for one person although there were two people on the reservation. The staff knew very little English and offered no real assistance. This is a very misleading resort. Do not listen to social media post dating this is a great resort. Luckily, we only stayed one night to be closer to the airport. The jacuzzi was very cold...not heated like stated. The highlight was the two earthquakes we experienced during the stay.

Very friendly and welcoming stop close to SJO. Very characterful, the rooms are large with a great view over the valley. The extensive grounds have great walking trails - we saw an agouti - for early morning walks and a hummingbirds visible from the breakfast restaurant and the jacuzzi next to the swimming pool. Staff are very helpful and friendly, food was good.

we stayed here during our first night and then our last night while traveling throughout Costa Rica. the hotel is close to the airport, although you would never know it. feels like you are far in the jungle. the rooms are large and beautifully decorated with terraces . the property and landscaping is amazing, especially the sunset pool. I had a massage, and it was excellent in a beautiful facility. We loved our dinners and breakfast at the hotel, and most of all we loved the kindness and helpfulness of the staff, especially the rooms manager. Hope to be back soon!
