We had a fantastic stay at Yamagaso. We were able to drop our bags off at the main hotel so we could go sightseeing before check-in. Dinner was a delicious kaiseki meal served in our room. It was great having our own private bath in our villa with hot spring water. Our host Momo-san was sweet and very helpful. If we ever return to Hakone we would love to stay here again.

Yamagaso was a wonderful surprise after a very disappointing stay the week before at Arima Onsen. This property is beautiful and our room with a garden view was more pleasant than any any place that we’ve stayed around the world. The rooftop onsen is a very special experience to not miss. The breakfast and dinner was superb and each dish presented was a work of art. All that being said, what made this place really stand out was the service provided by Kimiko. Her attention to detail, explaining customs, preparing the room and serving meals made our experience very special

Das Yamagaso war relativ teuer. Wir haben dann aber bemerkt, dass an diesem Wochenende der «Bunka no Hi» (japanischer Kulturtag) war und alle Welt unterwegs. Die Begrüssung und Einführung durch das Personal war sehr, sehr freundlich und persönlich. Wir erhielten Grüntee und Süssigkeiten, während uns die Yukata und Pyjamas bereitgelegt wurden. Wir genossen die Stille, welche nur durch das Rauschen des Flusses und das Geplätscher der Bächlein und des Brunnens unterbrochen wurde. Das Zimmer war sehr gross und der Schlaf auf dem Futon war geruhsam. Es hat einen grossen Indoor-Onsen beim Hotel drüben, sowie einen weiteren Outdoor-Onsen im vierten Stock dort. Der ist etwas schwieriger erreichbar, aber auch sehr schön. Das Hotel erreicht man zu Fuss in rund 15 Minuten vom Bahnhof Hakone-Yumoto aus. Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen hier.

너무 행복한 시간이었습니다. 곳곳에 아름다운 정원이 있고 직원분들의 안내와 서비스도 매우 친절했습니다. 시간적 여유만 있었다면 2박, 3박 하면서 하루는 숙소에서만 쉬고 싶을 정도로 평화롭고 아름다운 공간이었어요! 코타츠에서 차를 마시고 도톰한 이불에서 잠을 자고 숙소 내 개인탕에서 온천을 즐기고 야마가소 안 가족탕에서도 행복한 시간을 보낼 수 있었습니다! 다음에 하코네를 다시 간다면 여기를 또 이용하고 싶어요♥️

The stay at Yamagaso was a unique experience. I recommend doing the half board as the Kaseiki dinner and the breakfast were fantastic! We also love the private onsen and the convenient access to the other onsen at the hotel next door.

We came to Japan to experience the culture. Hakone hotel Sensei was perfect. Beautiful room with private onsen. We also experienced the open air onsen. The dinner and breakfast was fantastic. My only complaint was too much food.

This a small Ryokan which is very authentic Japanese style. No English spoken but this adds to the authenticity. We loved the natural accommodation which was exactly as shown on the website. Excellent meal provided in the evening and an enormous breakfast which we were not expecting so was a bonus. We lounged about in out Japanese clothes provided and Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this clean and peaceful retreat.

価格（5万位）の割に総体的な満足度が低かったです。離れの宿に泊まったのですが、風情のある素敵な旅館というよりも、古びた民家の印象で、どこかのおばあちゃんの家に泊まったような感じでした。寝室やトイレ、作務衣の臭いが気になりました。お食事は美味しかったですが、魯山人の雰囲気は感じられませんでした。接客は丁寧ではありましたが、リラックスできませんでした。価格から考えると、全体的にプロフェッショナルな仕事ぶりが感じられず残念でした。

うーん。。古民家のコンセプトなのですが、ホントに古いです。 日があたらないせいか何となく床も座布団も部屋着もじっとり、、 部屋着は臭いが気になりました 本館のエレベーターも、、 他のお客さんが通るたびに部屋の中が見えてしまってちょっと気になりました 部屋についているお風呂は温泉らしいのですが小さくて陰気な感じでちょっと入る気が起きなかったです(>_<) 写真だと本館の露天風呂が素敵そうだったので楽しみにしてたのですが、男女入れ替え制でどちらかしか入れないのと行くまでが大変で一度しか入れませんでした。 大浴場はただの銭湯のようだったし、貸しきりの家族風呂は覗いたらゴキブリが歩いてて無理でした なので温泉は楽しめませんでした。。 食事も昔ながらの旅館飯で正直美味しくはなかったです。 唯一お米が硬めに美味しく炊けていました！ ドライヤーがリファなのは良かったです 仲居さんは一所懸命やってくれていい方でした。 部屋でWi-Fiが使えないのも、テレビが小さいのも折角温泉に来たのだからゆっくりするためと思うのですが、肝心の温泉があまりでした 日本家屋の感じは好きだし雰囲気もあるのでもうちょっと上手くできたらすごく良くなると思うのになぁと感じました。 頑張って欲しいです！

A lovely authentic Japanese experience. Very welcoming hosts. Food was plentiful and to a high standard just not to my Western palate. Very fish orientated. A menu would have been good to help identify some of the dishes. We loved getting dressed into our Yukatas. No Wi-Fi in the room but available in the lounge. Convenient for Hakone station.

I had a wonderful stay! The room and property were absolutely gorgeous, the staff so welcoming and nice, and surrounding area stunningly beautiful. I highly recommend staying here and plan to visit again on my next trip to the Hakone!

A lovely authentic Japanese experience. Very welcoming hosts. Food was plentiful and to a high standard just not to my Western palate. Very fish orientated. A menu would have been good to help identify some of the dishes. We loved getting dressed into our Yukatas. No Wi-Fi in the room but available in the lounge. Convenient for Hakone station.

Booked through hotels.com. I thought that, since this was a ryokan and other reviews mentioned the amazing Kaiseki style dinner they served, that dinner would come with my booking. There was no additional option when booking to specify whether I wanted dinner or not; so I figured it was implied/included, as it has been for other Ryokan bookings. Turns out, somehow, despite being $600+ a night, my booking did NOT include dinner. This wasn't made clear to me until after dinner never showed up the first night. So, after bathing and putting on my yukata and relaxing with a beer, I had to trudge back outside in my streetwear where the only thing open was an Izakaya with a 1.5 hour wait. I complained to the staff in the morning, and they refused to do anything to make it right. If I wanted dinner that following night, I'd have to pay 20,900 yen more. This overall RUINED my experience for these two days of my trip, which were also, by far, the most expensive accommodations. Given this I cannot award any stars to this place. The actual room and hotel grounds were nice, but not worth getting my trip screwed over. DO NOT BOOK. Find something else, one that will not screw you over on the experience.

My family felt they staff really cared for each of us (my teenage boys had so my gratitude for how they showed us around the onsen and explained the traditions). If you are looking to experience a traditional onsen, Yamagaso wil give you that. The property is beautiful, I felt the pictures cannot capture the beauty until you see it for yourself. We were able to use all the baths (actually had them to ourselves most of the time!). The food was amazing. We had a fantastic stay at Yamagaso. We were able to drop our bags off at the main hotel so we could go sightseeing before check-in. Dinner was a delicious kaiseki meal served in our room. It was great having our own private bath in our villa with hot spring water. Our host Momo-san was sweet and very helpful. If we ever return to Hakone we would love to stay here again.

Yamagaso was a wonderful surprise after a very disappointing stay the week before at Arima Onsen. This property is beautiful and our room with a garden view was more pleasant than any any place that we’ve stayed around the world. The rooftop onsen is a very special experience to not miss. The breakfast and dinner was superb and each dish presented was a work of art. All that being said, what made this place really stand out was the service provided by Kimiko. Her attention to detail, explaining customs, preparing the room and serving meals made our experience very special

Das Yamagaso war relativ teuer. Wir haben dann aber bemerkt, dass an diesem Wochenende der «Bunka no Hi» (japanischer Kulturtag) war und alle Welt unterwegs. Die Begrüssung und Einführung durch das Personal war sehr, sehr freundlich und persönlich. Wir erhielten Grüntee und Süssigkeiten, während uns die Yukata und Pyjamas bereitgelegt wurden. Wir genossen die Stille, welche nur durch das Rauschen des Flusses und das Geplätscher der Bächlein und des Brunnens unterbrochen wurde. Das Zimmer war sehr gross und der Schlaf auf dem Futon war geruhsam. Es hat einen grossen Indoor-Onsen beim Hotel drüben, sowie einen weiteren Outdoor-Onsen im vierten Stock dort. Der ist etwas schwieriger erreichbar, aber auch sehr schön. Das Hotel erreicht man zu Fuss in rund 15 Minuten vom Bahnhof Hakone-Yumoto aus. Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen hier.

Wow! What an amazing experience. We had a beautiful stay , our only regret was that we could not stay longer. We highly recommend this traditional Ryokan. Kimiko our host is a beautiful souls and made ourv stay that much more special. The food is incredible, the private ohnsen was better than expected. You will not be disappointed with a stay here.

The stay at Yamagaso was a unique experience. I recommend doing the half board as the Kaseiki dinner and the breakfast were fantastic! We also love the private onsen and the convenient access to the other onsen at the hotel next door.

This place blew us away! We stayed in the Yamagaso annex in the Chouji room. The area was great, a nice walk or bus ride from the station. Then the room, we were very impressed! Traditional style with the tatami mats. We had the half board which included breakfast and dinner. The amount and variety of food was spectacular! The staff were super friendly too, everyone we met was great! We used the private bath, public bath and the outdoor bath at night which were all very nice and relaxing. I'm not sure how this place could be any better for a relaxing few days in Hakone, would definitely come back every time!

This property is beautiful and our room with a garden view was more pleasant than any any place that we’ve stayed around the world. The rooftop onsen is a very special experience to not miss. The stay at Yamagaso was a unique experience. I recommend doing the half board as the Kaseiki dinner and the breakfast were fantastic! We also love the private onsen and the convenient access to the other onsen at the hotel next door.

We came to Japan to experience the culture. Hakone hotel Sensei was perfect. Beautiful room with private onsen. We also experienced the open air onsen. The dinner and breakfast was fantastic. My only complaint was too much food.

A lovely authentic Japanese experience. Very welcoming hosts. Food was plentiful and to a high standard just not to my Western palate. Very fish orientated. A menu would have been good to help identify some of the dishes. We loved getting dressed into our Yukatas. No Wi-Fi in the room but available in the lounge. Convenient for Hakone station.

clean, comfortable traditional Japanese Ryokan. No english spoken but kind and capable staff. low ceilings. beautiful serene escape in the middle of the city. food was amazing, beautiful, tasty (not always identifiable, but very traditional) and plentiful. would love to go back.

L’hébergement est très beau. Les extérieurs sont verdoyants et de toute beauté. L’accueil est très chaleureux. Le couchage est confortable. Les repas sont dignent d’un gastro. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié les bains chauds! Très bel établissement que nous recommandons.

This a small Ryokan which is very authentic Japanese style. No English spoken but this adds to the authenticity. We loved the natural accommodation which was exactly as shown on the website. Excellent meal provided in the evening and an enormous breakfast which we were not expecting so was a bonus. We lounged about in out Japanese clothes provided and Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this clean and peaceful retreat.
