Everything perfect except please note on Expedia or your own website or even at checkin at the very least that there is major maintenance work going on. Woke up at 8:45am to the sound of extremely loud banging and sawing coming from outside. And lasted all morning.

Beautiful historic building but updated with all the amenities of a high-end hotel. Staff is extremely helpful. Restaurant has delicious food and many seating options, including outdoor (with fire pits when chilly), bar and tables. Rooms are not large but very comfortable, and ours had a working gas fireplace. We had a corner room so a nice view of the inn’s patio and gardens. We will definitely stay there again!

Needs updating from top to bottom- dining room, guest rooms, exercise room, the latter of which is so small three people in there were struggling to make room for each other. But very nice front desk staff.

In general this property has a great and convenient location if you are visiting any of the 5 colleges especially Amherst, UMass or Mount Holyoke. However, upon our late night checkin we found that our room was not very clean. THere was some leftover trash in the corner, stained rug, dust on the fireplace screen, moldy tiles in the shower, a musty smell and generally threadbare effect. The worst thing was that sewage was backing up into one of the sinks and it was not while we were running the water. I brought this to the attention of staff but because of the late hour we had to wait until the next day. They graciously switched me to another room the following night which was clean, spacious and just fine. I think they should not use that first room (203) and/or give it a deep clean/refurbishing. In addition the first room it was quite small and had loud air which one could not turn off. Again, the second room did not have this problem. If I stayed again I would request a specific room. As a VIP I did not receive any automatic upgrade, it was only when there was a severe problem with the first room.

Underwhelming stay at a hotel that can do a lot better for what they charge. Cleanliness in spots around the door and window frames was mediocre at best - there were some scuff and aging marks on the woodwork and the carpet seemed to Ned cleaning - coffee in the morning was also of average quality - the place - does seem to need freshening up - seemed a bit tired.

This is a pretty place and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The location is great and we had a tasty breakfast at the restaurant.This hotel is very clean. Our room was well appointed but very small and the bathroom sink drained sluggishly. The layout here can be warren-like and confusing but the staff was very sweet and patient about giving directions.

The Inn is absolutely gorgeous on the outside with a great location in town. The restaurant was absolutely amazing, definitely the best meal we’d had amongst many good restaurants on our trip. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean, but the Inn definitely needs some work with torn carpets in the hall and furniture that looked like it needed replacing rather than just looking vintage. Overall, we had a very nice stay.

Centrally located Inn at Amherst. Bed was small for a queen and not firm. We were on “ground floor” which is really below ground- windows high up at bottom of sidewalk. Would have been nice to have better shade coverage given this room location

Beautiful old school classy hotel. Food in restaurant was high quality. Very clean. My only complaint would be that the walls are thin. Other than that, we had a lovely stay visiting Umass Amherst.

It is always a pleasure to stay at the Boltwood. My son attends Amherst College, and it is so convenient to the school and town. Great restaurant and bar too. Nicole went above and beyond when I had to make a last-minute change to my room type, not only finding the new room type but also moving my things to the new room. Amazing service and a fabulous stay!

Really great staff on the front desk, the bartender, Tom was excellent, Adam the server in the restaurant was a super star. The location is amazing as was all the areas to hang out around the property were fun and comfortable. We had dinner also at the restaurant, (we actually had 3 meals) and the filet was cooked to perfection! We loved the food…. Unfortunately, Devron, our waiter for dinner was lacking and probably shouldn’t be in this vocation! Not the best for such an amazing location and everyone was great except the aforementioned waiter. The place is a gem! We’ll be back to stay!

The Inn on Boltwood came highly recommended by a friend who teaches at Amherst. It did not disappoint. I've traveled a lot and stayed at many hotels, but I've never wanted to just live in one before. The Inn is immaculate and beautiful. The staff were friendly, kind, and welcoming. Malina, knowing I was there to visit the Emily Dickinson museum in honor of my retirement from teaching English for 46 years, gave me a book of Emily's poetry and a bookmark when I arrived. I was thrilled and so surprised. The food in the restaurant was incredible. It was delicious and I could not even finish it all. Amherst was my favorite place on this trip and I'd love to see it in the snow. It would be worth flying across the country from Idaho again just to stay at the Inn on Boltwood.

they didnt have my reservation active (i suppose they don't update the info with expedia because they didnt have the reservation i required, but had some previous canceled ones), and gave me a queen bed instead of a king bed i had on my expedia active reservation. they told me i needed to pay to cancel my canceled reservations. on the next day, they didnt even told me but recognized the big mistake.

Although the Boltwood carries a sense of New England charm, at the end of the day the charm didn't make up for discomfort endured. Specifically, I was there working as a travel emergency room veterinarian, which meant I was working 12 to 14 hour shifts, some nights until 2 am. The shades could not be fully drawn, which meant I was woken by sunlight at dawn, increasing my already sleep deprived state. Additionally, the room had no privacy from the outside. I couldn't open the shades without the world seeing directly inside the room. Lastly, twice I went to breakfast only to wait 45 minutes at a table without being served. The second time, I asked the waitress if I was going to get served soon, and she informed me how understaffed they were. I told her that I had to get to work, and she at least made me a latte to go, which was very kind. Combine lack of sleep, lack of food, and no privacy, and I won't be back, charm or no charm.

Located just steps from downtown Amherst and Emily's house. Amazing amenities, friendly and helpful staff. Did not try the restaurant but the bar was classic. We left a few items behind and they were promptly and cheerfully FedEx'd home to us.

In Amherst for a tournament. The room is okay., location is excellent, and restaurant should have been avoided. It took us almost two hours to get simple items for dinner (hamburger and lobster spaghetti). The muscles literally came with no broth. I worked on a restaurant for years and the restaurant situation last night was crazy.

Hotel property okay, I expected better of a hotel that was recently renovated. For example, bathroom sink was cracked in a number of places. That doesn't feel quaint, just cheap. Bed was fine. It was very clean, standard room was tiny, Restaurant in property was pretty terrible. Dry over cooked steak, cold french fries. Absolutely bland barely warm pasta dish. . Staff of hotel and restaurant were excellent.

I really enjoyed staying at the inn. Staff was very friendly and the room was very clean! I loved the way the inn was decorated and really enjoyed looking around the property. The only thing I did not enjoy was the wait time at the 30 boltwood which is the hotel’s restaurant. I had made reservations for me and my fiancé for dinner and brunch and it still took forever for someone to wait on us and took about an hour to receive our food. The food was delicious but certainly not worth the wait. I most definitely will be staying at the inn again but will not be going to the restaurant.

We spent two nights at the Boltwood Inn, so we could explore Amherst. Our itinerary included a tour of the Emily Dickenson house, the Yiddish Book Center and the Eric Carle Museum. Recommend all three places, if you are passing through Amherst. Boltwood Inn is a historic building, so don’t go in expecting a modern hotel. We had two of the double queen rooms with the extra sitting area. The sitting area provide a quiet place to sit. Not long after check-in, we had to switch one of our rooms, because the heater wasn’t working. We were grateful they still had an identical room available. The lobby area was nice and had a cozy parlor room with a fireplace, books and board games. That place was also used for a special afternoon tea that you had to prebook. We did not attend the tea. We did dine in the restaurant, which seemed popular with the locals. We enjoyed our dinners, but breakfast service was slow and the food did not come out hot. I would search for another breakfast option, if I returned to Amherst.
