The hotel has many positive qualities, but unfortunately several parts of the resort are clearly showing their age and are in need of a major renovation. This includes the pool area, the fitness facilities, and the hotel corridors. The biggest disappointment, however, was the room we were assigned upon arrival. Its standard was far below what you would expect from a hotel of this category. Several things in the room were broken and had to be repaired during our stay, there was an unpleasant smell, and the room was generally worn, damaged, and outdated. It was obvious that this room had not been renovated for at least 10-15 years and looked nothing like the rooms the hotel advertises in its photos and marketing materials. When we raised our concerns, the hotel immediately offered us one of the renovated rooms. This was a very positive experience and exactly the standard we had expected. However, it does raise the question of why guests are placed in these outdated rooms in the first place if the hotel wishes to present itself as a serious, highly rated resort. My clear advice is either to avoid booking this hotel until a more comprehensive renovation has been completed, or at the very least to obtain written confirmation before arrival that you will be assigned one of the renovated rooms the hotel advertises. Otherwise, you may be in for a very disappointing experience.

I traveled during shoulder season to Portugal all along the beautiful coastline, but it often required wearing more clothes like sweatshirts and jackets for the cooler weather, especially when in the water. Coming to Dolce CampoReal Lisboa was a refreshing change, both for the stunning countryside views and being able to bask in the warmth & sunlight wearing shorts and t-shirts. The property is a sprawling complex of the main hotel with its rooms & suites, to apartments, to townhomes to villas amidst a picturesque golf setting. It can easily accommodate the single business traveler to families to large group events. I had excellent dinners @ Manjapao Restaurant and accomplished much work while relaxing at The Wellington Bar enjoying drinks. If you have a car, Torres Vedras is a convenient location, which I used as a home base to visit Peniche & Berlenga Island, Sintra, Cascais (Cabo da Roca, Praia do Guincho (kite surfers), several coastline towns & Lisbon.
