The hotel and room was beautiful, the breakfast was amazing. We were let down by our experience when we arrived and when we left. I had messaged through to reserve a car parking space, on arrival the car park was mostly full but the empty bays were not reserved in our name. I assumed due to not getting a reply to my request before arrival we hadn’t had a space reserved. We parked in the public car park just along from the hotel. We carried our bags back and checked in. On check out we were asked to pay for the reserved space, I explained there wasn’t one, the man said there should have been but nevermind don’t worry then. We left through the car park and I checked we hadn’t missed the reserved sign when we had arrived. Our reserved sign was turned to face the wall by whomever had decided they deserved the space more than we did.i went back in to mention it to the reception staff, I was met with a grunt, they clearly couldn’t have cared less. This marred the experience for me as I purposely chose a hotel that had parking so we wouldn’t have to carry our bags from a public car park.

We had a fantastic two-night stay at Hotel du Vin in Exeter. The breakfasts were excellent, and we enjoyed delicious drinks and nibbles at the bar while staying warm by the wood burner. I stayed one night in the Single Comfort Room as I was back in Exeter to visit old University friends. Very comfy bed with nice pillows and a decent shower. The room is pricy for what it offers, since it is on the smaller side and doesn't have a wardrobe, so ideal for a quick trip. Staff were lovely and helpful. The outdoor pool was a nice bonus, although the hotel could improve by having a gym.

Bathroom needed a bit of extra cleaning at floor level plus glass window insert. Very attentive staff and bottle of bubbles help put things right, however, the dust is still there🤔😳 Overall lo ed the laid back style the roaring fire, the breakfast options, the comfortable bed, the free overnight parking in the adjoining street (top tip). We'll be back!

Good location. Was offered a free drink instead of housekeeping but then despite giving my voucher to the bar and saying I wanted to claim the drink, I was charged £7.50. The room was ok but the bathroom smelt like a urinal and was really unpleasant. Not the standard I’d expect for this chain.

Room was very dusty 104 internal glass dividers had hand and greasy marks on it inside bathroom window cill dusty, room 103 has a faulty door closer so door slams and shakes our room being woken at all hours. Unable to contact the Spa before trip to book treatments, they also did not return voice messages and on arrival tried to book for my wife and without even checking just said no for the next 4 days

The staff were helpful, Aircon was broken and there were no people availabke to fix during our stay, there was musshed food in the stair carpet which was there when we arrived and was still there when we left ! we could see a lift or would have avoided the stairs as it had tools and poles and trolleys with broken glass and dirty dishes on . so Everytime we went back to our room it wasnt pleasant to walk passed . its a shame as the hotel was nicely decorated and clean apart from this BIG Dirty stair well which we had no choice but to use to get to our room ! Our room was ment to be a twin bed as me and my 17 year old were booked to share but there was no available so we had to share. it was unbelievabley hot and very little sleep was got . The man on reception did apologise for the aircon and gave a discount . I didnt have the heart to tell him about the mess as well . x

A gorgeous hotel with really lovely staff, but unfortunately we had so many niggles with our suite that meant it was not the relaxing stay we had hoped for. It wasn't a great start when, upon walking into the bathroom, there was a piece of screwed up, dirty toilet tissue by the side of the toilet. This was followed by discovering that the fridge was out of order, there was a flickering light bulb that made one set of lights unusable, and the television by the bed had no working sound. We reported these issues and reception staff were helpful and said they would send someone to fix the TV and asked if we'd like the light bulb fixed too. Unfortunately the person sent to fix the TV was not able to do so. He arranged for the cocktails that we had ordered to be free of charge. We then ordered some room service and slightly misread the menu (the caveats were complicated). We had asked for a charcuterie and cheese board, but a cheese board (with blue cheese - not what we wanted) arrived. We called reception and the person that took the order explained that when she put our order through, the chef told her they weren't doing the charcuterie board yet. Unfortunately she had not called us back, so we ended up with something we didn't want. They kindly swapped it over for us, but it meant it was gone 21:00 by the time we ate. The bed was comfortable and room nicely decorated with a quaint theme. The breakfast was fantastic and the dining area really pleasant.

Lovely hotel but 2 things which weren’t perfect was that the air con was pretty ineffective so we ended it opening windows which was then very noisy! Also there was no hot water when my husband showered! We did alert the hotel about this & they assured us they would get maintenance to check it. However, this is the 3rd time staying at their hotel & the atmosphere is lovely & being an old hospital, the building is superb with lots of historical features. Staff are also very good.

The smallest, pokiest room we have ever experienced at any of the hotels within the HdV collection - despite it being a Deluxe category. No safe in the room. Very little space to place clothes. Impossible to open the bathroom door if someone was sitting at the desk/dressing table (crazy!). We booked for lunch in the bistro, which was supposed to be a treat on our son's graduation day. The food was good but the restaurant was almost empty and therefore lacking atmosphere. Despite the lack of diners, service was very slow and we had to chase some items that we had ordered at the start. Overall a very disappointing experience and bad value for money; not what we expect (and have experienced) at Hotel du Vin in previous years.

Quite a noisy room that was right on the main road with constant traffic. Shower not well designed so even with the shower curtains shut, it was impossible from keeping the water from going down the wall next to the tub.

I’ve never been in a hotel where all of the staff are consistently polite, friendly, helpful, happy and amazingly genuine ! There’s clearly an incredible ethos here of top class customer service. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to anyone. The rooms are amazing and the food was stunning.

Great place to stay, staff are absolutely fantastic, nothing too much trouble, always friendly and pleasant. I have stayed here a few times and the staff are simply the best i have encountered, thank you. The hotel is also great, clean and a little quirky, being a conversion rather than purpose built, makes it a bit more interesting. Great location, 5 minute stroll into the centre.

Nobody at reception when I arrived - had to wait 5 mins before somebody arrived. Only one person working in bar - took 20 mins to get a drink but others were waiting for an hour for cocktails. Food was nice but again short of staff…. Not a great experience…

I love the hotel du vin chain and was looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately the service just wasn’t up to its normal level. I took on board the need to book a parking space and dinner reservation way in advance. Did both. On arrival, there were lots of reserved signs against parking spaces but none for us. Went off to find a public car park. Walking back we found a sign with our name pushed against a wall and a new one in its place. We were refunded for the parking. Then that evening we booked a taxi for the next morning. The member of staff picked up the phone but clearly didn’t get through. And then served someone else. Sure enough in the morning, I checked and no taxi had been booked. It was a two hour wait for a cab! Or we could abandon our breakfast and jump in the cab they’d managed to find. Then there were little things, had to chase a glass of wine that never arrived after 15 mins. Other members of staff were amazing, particularly our waiter at dinner was very professional and very friendly. Room lovely. Food very good. But service really let it down and made our trip stressful. We had an appointment to keep and I though ordering a taxi the night before was covering all eventualities.

Very unfortunate that we stayed at the hotel the day of a wedding, we waited almost 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive with our dinner in the restaurant and service in general that evening was extremely slow, the drinks were removed from the tab however which was obviously an attempt to compensate us (which was greatly appreciated) many customers in the restaurant that evening were unpleased at the wait times, and the restaurant team were visible stressed and it was almost unsettling to watch, it is not good business to let service slump due to a wedding being held, as a hotel you should be aware that you are facilitating normal guests and a restaurant and a wedding, perhaps more staff to ease the load and make sure things are still served in a timely manner or close the restaurant when weddings are held so you can actually cope with the work load, aside from this the stay was very nice and the staff as a whole were very attentive and polite, the reception team were fantastic apart from one blonde female (of which there are 2 but I refer to the slightly older one) who come across extremely short when booking us into our suite for the night, 0 eye contact when talking to me, perhaps I only noticed it so much because it was night/day compared to the customer service given by all the other members of staff we interacted with, our suite was very nice however and as a whole I would recommended the hotel as I can tell ordinarily it wouldn’t fall short of expectations

We met with a group of friends (10 in total). Service was extremely poor. Ordered drinks in the afternoon. Coffees turned up, 20 minutes later my beer turned up. Some time later one of our friends had to ask where his beer was. Table was not cleared of empty glasses. We had a dinner reservation in the restaurant at 7:30. It took 20 minutes for 2 bottles of wine to arrive that we had ordered from the bar. We had to ask for menus after being seated for 30 minutes. It was 9:30 before we had our mains, some 2 hours after being seated. 3 guests had the rump steak which was not like rump I have seen - very flat. One guest sent theirs back. I appreciate hospitality is short on staff, but there were no apologies from staff that they may be having issues. Restaurant was at best half full. Our room was upgraded on arrival. The upgraded room itself was quite small with a very small bathroom. The wardrobe has enough space for around 3 shirts so not great if you planned a stay for more than a couple of days. No place in the bathroom for toiletries. Aircon didn't appear to work - it was hot in the room. Our friends also had the same issue with a hot room. Shower was in the bath and the bath did not drain! One couple in the party complained about the broom cupboard they had been given and were upgraded. Interestingly, they had a mini bar, we did not. Strange policy. Decor overall not great and didn't feel very inviting throughout the hotel. Overall not a great experience.

As ever a great stay at the Hotel du Vin Exeter, friendly and professional staff and lovely rooms, and mine was no exception this time. The breakfast was made to order which was absolutely delicious, it really is a USP in these days of hotels serving up a dried up breakfast buffet kept tepid under lights and bland scrambled eggs which have no colour or taste. So to conclude, great hotel and staff, superb customer service and excellent food!

Everything was just wondefful. Room was clean, nice view and a lovely bath. Toby on reception offered great service as did Helen at nreakdasr and all the staff at dinner. Superb food too.

La camera era pulita e il breakfast inglese vario e ottimo. Ho anche cenato con buona soddisfazione. La struttura è ben attrezzata, gradevolissimo il giardino con la piscina. E il personale è disponibilissimo e davvero molto cordiale. L'albergo, in più, è a pochi minuti a piedi dalla cattedrale.

A beautiful stay at HdV. The staff were friendly and attentive - everyone you saw in the morning said hello and seemed happy working there. Facilities were immaculate. While the room had a fault with the air con (due to recent overuse in the heatwave) the staff immediately produced two fans to help as best they could and it made all the difference. The breakfast offering was excellent. Would definitely stay again.
