Fundamentally a student lodging house letting out any empty rooms; basic is an overstatement. No bar or restaurant; no staff, only one caretaker; no toilet tissue in the en-suite; grouting has black mould; twin beds pushed together with a gap in the middle; double duvet inside a king side cover so not full coverage of the bed; no TV remote; bedside lamp not working and a broken shade; no lounge or refreshment facilities; narrow, winding stairs; no provision for mobility difficulties; car parking is an extra charge and a ten minute walk. All in all, this is more of a hostel than a 3* hotel. The one member of staff was very friendly and helpful but had no authority to make any recompense.

For every thing that works well there's some other thing that doesn't, Room 9 has a new basin and loo but a shower with a door that's difficult to open. Plenty of shampoo and handwash but no general purpose soap or shower gel - you have to keep asking for things that should be there already. Rooms are not being checked or serviced, so the notice about hanging towels you don't want changed is pointless. Breakfast choices are erratic - brown bread and yoghurt on some days, not on others, and basics like coffee arriving late. The Lodge is not recommended to those with their own transport or who can't manage stairs as there is no lift. It generally appears to be lacking investment and truly dedicated staff.

The hotel is very well located in the centre of Canterbury, only a couple of minutes walk from the cathedral, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Sanjeewa, who runs the hotel, was very friendly, welcoming, and always helpful during our stay. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The hotel is definitely convenient; it was a ten minute walk from the station and is located RIGHT in the centre of the old town. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. The breakfast was simple (toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt). The first morning the dining room was busy; the fruit and yogurt disappeared quickly and weren’t replenished. The second morning was quieter and staff had time to refill things. The rooms were clean, but shabby. Wine stains on the curtains, holes in the wall and broken hooks in the bathroom. There wasn’t anywhere to put personal items in the bathroom. A small table or shelf could have served that purpose. The stairs in this property are VERY narrow. It was difficult to go up them with even a small suitcase. Larger suitcases would have been a problem, In summary, this property is just okay. Clean and welcoming but presentation needs work.

Although the property is a little old and tired, it was great for an overnight stay. Manager was lovely and breakfast; continental style and plentiful. Really close to Cathedral and other local attractions. For those with mobility issues there were a couple of steep staircases to climb to get to upper floor rooms. Fans were provided, but rooms were still stuffy, not too much of a problem if you like to be warm like me - it was a warm August night. No on-site parking, you park in a public car park about 8 mins away and it costs £15 via the hotel for 24 hours. Make sure that you keep receipt for this. Council empty bins at 6:30am on Monday morning. This is not a hotel issue, just to let light sleepers know, it happens all over the city. Would go back in the future if in the area.

Parking lot was supposed to be accessible but nothing was mentioned in the announcement nor through any sorts of pre-arrival communication. We got stuck with our car into a city car park that was not cheap without having any options available.

This is an old building but has been made the best of & was v clean. Set in the centre of Canterbury within a stone's throw of the main areas. There are two main drawbacks. 1 There is no car parking at all as it is set in a no through narrow street. Car parking is offered & they will book it for you.It is charged per 24hrs & is a 10min walk away. The other is that breakfast is only Continental although nicely set out.

It may not be luxury but for a night or two you could do much worse. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Amazing location just off the Main Street. A few mins walk to all the shops and bars and a stones throw from the cathedral. Very quiet at night (apart from a bit of noise from neighbouring rooms as walls not the thickest). Very small but functional en-suite and the shower had as much power as a dribbly baby. Plentiful hot water tho which is good. TV, mini fridge and kettle on the room along with a tower fan. Bed is comfy enough but an extra pillow would have been nice. Breakfast is hams and cheeses. Bread and crumpets for the toaster. Butter, jams and various spreads are available. Fruit and yoghurts plus various cereals. Fruit juices, tea and coffee too. All perfectly agreeable. Use them for parking and you get a cheap rate at a nearby carpark, about 5 mins stroll from the hotel. Would we return? probably.

I would not stay again. The room was not as advertised. Next to the front door which was slammed often during the night. Ground floor room with outdated scrap furniture. Noise from deliveries in the street at 04:00. Room was very hot and no ability to turn off heating as controls removed. Mould in the bathroom. This is less of a hotel and more a hostel. Not worth over £50 a night. I suggest a max of £20 would be more appropriate. Feedback given to staff at the property who didn't care.

Extractor fan in the shower not clean neither was the skirting and shower surround .The mattress was faded frayed and stained .God knows how long the coffee sachets had been there as they were rock hard . Only one yoghurt left at breakfast

A bit dated and tatty in places and breakfast is very basic. But a very comfy bed with clean crisp sheets and towels. Good nights sleep at the back of the property on the 2nd floor. Guy who checked us in was friendly and helpful. Overall it isn’t plush but great location and things that matter are there.

Great location. Just off high street, about 6/7 minute walk from either station, right next to Sainsburys express, and loads of restaurants bars etc Very dated interior, doesnt look like its had an upgrade since the 90s, and could do with a renovation, carpets a bit frayed etc. However, having said that, was clean, the owner was charming, and considering the location is very good value.

AVOID. Generally tired, old and run down. Half expected this for the price so not that bothered about that. the location was good. The problem.... bedbugs. Lots of the horrible little things. We've videos of them all around the room and unfortunately we didn't realise until the morning. It's clear there's been an infestation for some time - there's actually reviews that we missed discussing this. It's clear though that this recent infestation has also been going on for a while... pale grey dried blood stains were visible on virtually all linen (easy to see when you look for it). The hotel has ignored all attempts to discuss this issue.

The hotel is very nice and within 5 minutes walk of the centre. Sanjeewa was very nice. The continental breakfasts was good, plenty of breads, crumpets, cheese, ham and salami, etc. The only bit of problem for us was that the room we were in, on the top floor, the wifi was extremely weak. We have to move around the room to find a connection near the door. Obviously we can't stay at the door all night so had to use our mobile data. Like some other reviews on here says, there's NO onsite parking despite whatever they advertise as. You can park in a car park abouts 8-10 minutes walk way for 15 pounds a day or find some on street parking further out.

The location in terms of proximity to the centre of Canterbury was great and the street where the accommodation is located is really cool. The staff member on shift (Sanjeewa) was really nice and I couldn’t fault him. There was a lot of street noise outside throughout the night and this seemed to be work related, rather than members of the public. Whilst I can’t blame this on the hotel, the original window was broken and stuck in an open position and this probably didn’t help. The room was described as a deluxe king size room. I don’t think two single mattresses, with a gap down the middle is quite the same and this was irritating. Also, the shower was below standard. It had very little water coming out of the head and no attachment for the hose and so I had to hold it throughout the shower. I think this is pretty poor and could easily be rectified.

We were in Canterbury on business and spent very little time at the hotel. Continental breakfast was fine, the room was fine, but the bathroom very tight. Overall, had a good time. Friendly staff and excellent access to the city. Very close to the theatre and Cathedral.

Stayed in same room as before. Nice and clean. Was hot as no air conditioning but fan was provided. Quant and cheap, close to theatre. Everything you need for an overnight stay. Sainsbury's just up the road too for snacks.

It may not be luxury but for a night or two you could do much worse. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Amazing location just off the Main Street. A few mins walk to all the shops and bars and a stones throw from the cathedral. Very quiet at night (apart from a bit of noise from neighbouring rooms as walls not the thickest). Very small but functional en-suite and the shower had as much power as a dribbly baby. Plentiful hot water tho which is good. TV, mini fridge and kettle on the room along with a tower fan. Bed is comfy enough but an extra pillow would have been nice. Breakfast is hams and cheeses. Bread and crumpets for the toaster. Butter, jams and various spreads are available. Fruit and yoghurts plus various cereals. Fruit juices, tea and coffee too. All perfectly agreeable. Use them for parking and you get a cheap rate at a nearby carpark, about 5 mins stroll from the hotel. Would we return? probably.

AVOID. Generally tired, old and run down. Half expected this for the price so not that bothered about that. the location was good. The problem.... bedbugs. Lots of the horrible little things. We've videos of them all around the room and unfortunately we didn't realise until the morning. It's clear there's been an infestation for some time - there's actually reviews that we missed discussing this. It's clear though that this recent infestation has also been going on for a while... pale grey dried blood stains were visible on virtually all linen (easy to see when you look for it). The hotel has ignored all attempts to discuss this issue.

The best thing about this visit was the outstanding service of Mr Sanjeewa. His willingness to go above and beyond what was expected of him was surprising and refreshing. Another great plus of this lodge is its location. It is a bit outdated and in need of some small repairs but totally worth the money because it's clean, good bedsheets and towels, spacious, and offers a good car park deal. We were very happy with our stay. Thank you Sanjeewa for making it so pleasant.

We arrived at Greyfriars Lodge and was met by Mr Sanjeewa who was polite and friendly. During our stay, he responded to our request for shower gels , towels among other things quickly. Sanjeewa was a very welcoming host and very kind. We could have left our bags to collect later but we were due to leave Canterbury. It was quiet at night despite warnings of noise on the website. It is very convenient for the City, 5 minutes walk from both the Marlowe Theatre and the Cathedral. The rooms and decor are a little dated but perfectly fine for a short stay.

The hotel is very well located in the centre of Canterbury, only a couple of minutes walk from the cathedral, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Sanjeewa, who runs the hotel, was very friendly, welcoming, and always helpful during our stay. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Though the decor could use a bit of an update, this didn't affect our stay at all, and you can hardly expect more at such a reasonable price! A continental breakfast was also included with toast, crumpets, muffins, yoghurts, cereal, jams, honey, etc. Though there wasnt any parking at the hotel we booked parking a minute's walk away through Just Park, which worked well for us. Sanjeewa did contact me prior to our stay though, advising about parking and offering to let us drop off luggage to save us having to walk with it. We all really enjoyed our stay at Greyfriars Lodge and would happily visit again in the future.

My teenage children and I stayed just one night at the Greyfriars Lodge. It has a great, central location and the host, Sanjeewa, was very welcoming and helpful. Beds are very comfy too! Recommend this hotel for a short break. It is in need of some renovation but for a short time it is very acceptable.

A good example of you get what you pay for, relatively cheap for the Canterbury area but then it wasn’t a great place to stay. Rooms were very small in desperate need of decorating, my TV had been taped up moments before being shown to my room which I wasn’t impressed about, breakfast was extremely poor limited options and no effort made.. I will say though the staff or staff member was friendly.

A bit dated and tatty in places and breakfast is very basic. But a very comfy bed with clean crisp sheets and towels. Good nights sleep at the back of the property on the 2nd floor. Guy who checked us in was friendly and helpful. Overall it isn’t plush but great location and things that matter are there.

From the outside the place looked small but it was like Alice in wonderland it was huge!!!!! The men who worked there were lovely, so close to town, Yummy breakfast, and so quite was such a lovely stay....

The hotel is definitely convenient; it was a ten minute walk from the station and is located RIGHT in the centre of the old town. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. The breakfast was simple (toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt). The first morning the dining room was busy; the fruit and yogurt disappeared quickly and weren’t replenished. The second morning was quieter and staff had time to refill things. The rooms were clean, but shabby. Wine stains on the curtains, holes in the wall and broken hooks in the bathroom. There wasn’t anywhere to put personal items in the bathroom. A small table or shelf could have served that purpose. The stairs in this property are VERY narrow. It was difficult to go up them with even a small suitcase. Larger suitcases would have been a problem, In summary, this property is just okay. Clean and welcoming but presentation needs work.

Room wasn't great! Water coming out of taped up holes in the wall and shower was terrible. Breakfast was 8-10 and when I got there at 8 was told it was 08:30 not 8 so had to leave without.

Although the property is a little old and tired, it was great for an overnight stay. Manager was lovely and breakfast; continental style and plentiful. Really close to Cathedral and other local attractions. For those with mobility issues there were a couple of steep staircases to climb to get to upper floor rooms. Fans were provided, but rooms were still stuffy, not too much of a problem if you like to be warm like me - it was a warm August night. No on-site parking, you park in a public car park about 8 mins away and it costs £15 via the hotel for 24 hours. Make sure that you keep receipt for this. Council empty bins at 6:30am on Monday morning. This is not a hotel issue, just to let light sleepers know, it happens all over the city. Would go back in the future if in the area.

This is an old building but has been made the best of & was v clean. Set in the centre of Canterbury within a stone's throw of the main areas. There are two main drawbacks. 1 There is no car parking at all as it is set in a no through narrow street. Car parking is offered & they will book it for you.It is charged per 24hrs & is a 10min walk away. The other is that breakfast is only Continental although nicely set out.

So let's be clear this is a very old building, so expect uneven floors, crooked stairs etc if you have any mobility issues - look elsewhere!!! Cleanliness and general house keeping leaves a lot to be desired. Generally an odd smell in the room. Battered doors, a very grimey bath, toilet flush hanging on by a thread, and well worn mattresses. I think the broken fan in the room was supposed to be a treat, but looked more like a fire hazard. Bedside cabinet was a fridge, with some funky smell inside. Only stayed the 1 night while travelling through - that was a hard night. Personally I'd avoid at all costs. £85ish for the night for a family room - could have gone to a branded budget hotel for only a little bit more. Parking... Unless you need to park your car for 24 hours do not pay the nice man at the hotel £15! He'll send you to Castle Street Car Park (7 minutes walk away). Which it turns out from about 7pm to 10am would have cost me about £9. An insult - seriously unimpressed. We all decided we'd rather get back on the road minus a shower in the morning. I mean I say shower, it was a hose in a bath, but no screen or curtain and the shower head did not look particularly inviting. Never going back!!!

Sanjeewa was very accommodating and friendly a wonderful host. This is a very basic hotel but you cannot fault it, clean and has everything you need, a great option for an affordable city break. Breakfast was a bonus and had a good little selection. The location is fantastic!!!!! Already booked again 👍

Had a lovely stay. Sanjeewa was so helpful and accomodating. Have stayed here before and it was perfect, this time in a family room which was immaculate and a good size a great stay. Greyfriars would be my first choice to stay agsan. Less than a 15 min walk to there from canterbury west and so close to all amenties and if course to the cathedral
