What a great find in Winster. The Brown Horse Pub did not disappoint. We stayed in the external King room ( non pet) and it was lovely, clean and tidy with daily housekeeping. The bed was very comfortable and plenty of tea and coffee supplied with biscuits 😀. The private patio was a bonus with great views. The cooked breakfast was absolutely delicious and cooked fresh, with plenty of choices. Plus you also got continental breakfast additions of fruit, yogurt, cereal selection, juice, pastries that were warm , fresh bread for brown and white toast, lovely fresh coffee and tea. The main dinner menu had a great selection, and accommodated to all. We dinned in each night instead of going into Windermere, that’s how nice the food was. A good selection of beer and wines plus spirits in the bar . The staff, well they were all first class! Friendly, helpful and always smiling. What’s not to like about this pub, beautiful inside with wooded beams and comfortable seating. Outside with plenty of garden seating and the view was amazing. We will return here and we cannot recommend The Brown Horse Pub enough. Just a note : The pub is dog friendly and there are the woodland Pods at the rear of the Pub ( but we did not look at those) Stayed in External Room 7 from 22.09.2025 to 26.09.2025

What a find! Beautiful rural location just outside the Bowness business & within an easy drive of west Windermere. Our room was beautifully decorated & spotlessly clean. The food at the pub was excellent & the service friendly but unobtrusive. The only downside for us was that although the outside room with patio was dog friendly there was nowhere on site to safely let our dog off lead. Otherwise we would definitely be back to stay again.

Lovely hotel ,good sized room ,very quiet ,excellent facilities. Great TV with extra chanels like netflix,YouTube, iplayer . Loved the outside bit ,even in winter it was nice to sit outside as the view was stunning. Plenty of tea/coffee and fresh biscuits every day . Huge clean towels ,very warm and cosy . Breakfast was amazing, loads of choice and delicious food . We had an evening meal on the first night which was also outstanding. The staff went out of their way to please you . The only issue we had is that there is no where comfortable to sit in the bar for a drink! I had envisaged log fires and cosy corners but it was only really dining tables , we had to go back to our room . It was also expensive for drinks , a baileys coffee was £11 ,which surprised me as a baileys was only £4 !!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again .

The Brown Horse was a lovely place to spend a couple of nights while our family of three explored the local area. The room was a good size, with a modern ensuite bathroom. It was pretty clean, although some of the fabrics could do with a good dust as I couldn't stop sneezing. The bed could have been more comfortable as it was quite firm, but perhaps that's just a preference. The food was top notch. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast both mornings, which you're asked to preorder the evening before. We also ate dinner one evening and it was delicious. There is a play area for children to enjoy, with benches for adults to relax while supervising the children.

Excellent service and good food (we only had breakfast), and quite nice, modern style accommodation in their independent "pods". About 10 minutes drive from Bowness Pier, which is easy if you have a car. If not, you have to call a taxi; there is no bus stop or train station in a walkable distance. This can be a challenge during peak hours, with long waits so you have to plan your day well and call in advance.

Superb pub with rooms some of which are pet friendly. The bar area was open to dogs and we met quite a few well behaved pooches. The food is the same whether restaurant or bar and is excellent. The breakfasts are worthy of mention, eggs were delicious. Staff are lovely helpful and seem very happy in their work. They could not do enough for us. Excellent large car park with quick access to reception. Needless to say surrounded by beautiful scenery, Lakeland views and set in a quiet location . Brilliant short break.

We’ve never been to this area of Cumbria. We normally stay around towns. The Inn is very rural but it is easy to get to Bowness on Windermere by car. Our room was lovey and clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower was great, the views were amazing and the staff were friendly and polite.

Excellent beds and shower.. Room size V.G.. Food excellent. BUT our stay let down by a few details. ROOM 3 ...had no shelf in bathroom for toiletries etc. No table and socket for the kettle which had to be boiled on floor or at bedside. Kettle difficult to fill from wash basin tap There was inadequate hanging space and no hooks for outdoor coats. No alternative to duvet for beds (blanket option should be made available). Bedside and table drawers too small for clothes. The shower cubicle needs a wall mounted soap dish, the gel provided was not suitable for my wife's allergy. She had nowhere to put her soap.. Door to shower room needs oiling, noisy in middle of the night. ROOM 2 had no easy chair. These may seem small issues but made our stay less comfortable than it should have been. PLUS they are so easy to fix. 0.

We’ve never been to this area of Cumbria. We normally stay around towns. The Inn is very rural but it is easy to get to Bowness on Windermere by car. Our room was lovey and clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower was great, the views were amazing and the staff were friendly and polite.

We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay and would return if we were in the area again. The room was beautifully decorated and spacious. Breakfast was excellent- we didn't have an evening meal.

Lovely hotel ,good sized room ,very quiet ,excellent facilities. Great TV with extra chanels like netflix,YouTube, iplayer . Loved the outside bit ,even in winter it was nice to sit outside as the view was stunning. Plenty of tea/coffee and fresh biscuits every day . Huge clean towels ,very warm and cosy . Breakfast was amazing, loads of choice and delicious food . We had an evening meal on the first night which was also outstanding. The staff went out of their way to please you . The only issue we had is that there is no where comfortable to sit in the bar for a drink! I had envisaged log fires and cosy corners but it was only really dining tables , we had to go back to our room . It was also expensive for drinks , a baileys coffee was £11 ,which surprised me as a baileys was only £4 !!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again .

Excellent weekend at the brown horse inn. Really friendly staff, great food and drink and a lovely spot. The bedroom was big enough and very comfortable. Excellent breakfasts. Service in the restaurant was always friendly and accommodating.

Excellent beds and shower.. Room size V.G.. Food excellent. BUT our stay let down by a few details. ROOM 3 ...had no shelf in bathroom for toiletries etc. No table and socket for the kettle which had to be boiled on floor or at bedside. Kettle difficult to fill from wash basin tap There was inadequate hanging space and no hooks for outdoor coats. No alternative to duvet for beds (blanket option should be made available). Bedside and table drawers too small for clothes. The shower cubicle needs a wall mounted soap dish, the gel provided was not suitable for my wife's allergy. She had nowhere to put her soap.. Door to shower room needs oiling, noisy in middle of the night. ROOM 2 had no easy chair. These may seem small issues but made our stay less comfortable than it should have been. PLUS they are so easy to fix. 0.

What a great find in Winster. The Brown Horse Pub did not disappoint. We stayed in the external King room ( non pet) and it was lovely, clean and tidy with daily housekeeping. The bed was very comfortable and plenty of tea and coffee supplied with biscuits 😀. The private patio was a bonus with great views. The cooked breakfast was absolutely delicious and cooked fresh, with plenty of choices. Plus you also got continental breakfast additions of fruit, yogurt, cereal selection, juice, pastries that were warm , fresh bread for brown and white toast, lovely fresh coffee and tea. The main dinner menu had a great selection, and accommodated to all. We dinned in each night instead of going into Windermere, that’s how nice the food was. A good selection of beer and wines plus spirits in the bar . The staff, well they were all first class! Friendly, helpful and always smiling. What’s not to like about this pub, beautiful inside with wooded beams and comfortable seating. Outside with plenty of garden seating and the view was amazing. We will return here and we cannot recommend The Brown Horse Pub enough. There was a hiccup during check in due to the hotel not receiving the message about our dog staying with us. The hotel think this is due to Expedia not passing on the message. Anyway, the hotel quickly dealt with the problem and we had a lovely time. The food was excellent.

The stay was excellent from the second we arrived, the staff were all very helpful and friendly and did everything they could to make the stay a great experience. The food and service for dinner and breakfast was perfect too!

Fabulous weekend away with our dog at The Brown Horse. The staff here are fabulous. From check in to check out efficient and friendly. Praise must go to the restaurant and bar staff for just being so professional and friendly. The chef here knows how to cook with a spin on pub classics. Highly recommended.

What a find! Beautiful rural location just outside the Bowness business & within an easy drive of west Windermere. Our room was beautifully decorated & spotlessly clean. The food at the pub was excellent & the service friendly but unobtrusive. The only downside for us was that although the outside room with patio was dog friendly there was nowhere on site to safely let our dog off lead. Otherwise we would definitely be back to stay again.

What a beautiful, but remote location. Our terrace room were outstanding! The views oar breathtaking. The restaurant was busy but had good selections fast, accurate service. Really enjoyed our stay.

Excellent service and good food (we only had breakfast), and quite nice, modern style accommodation in their independent "pods". About 10 minutes drive from Bowness Pier, which is easy if you have a car. If not, you have to call a taxi; there is no bus stop or train station in a walkable distance. This can be a challenge during peak hours, with long waits so you have to plan your day well and call in advance.

Superb pub with rooms some of which are pet friendly. The bar area was open to dogs and we met quite a few well behaved pooches. The food is the same whether restaurant or bar and is excellent. The breakfasts are worthy of mention, eggs were delicious. Staff are lovely helpful and seem very happy in their work. They could not do enough for us. Excellent large car park with quick access to reception. Needless to say surrounded by beautiful scenery, Lakeland views and set in a quiet location . Brilliant short break.

I can't recommend this venue enough. Foon Delicious. Friendly Staff who go the extra mile. Relaxed and dog friendly. Sunday Roast dinner was exceptional and breakfast lovely. Complements to the chef and kitchen staff too.

The staff at this hotel are very friendly and welcoming as we checked in the receptionist brought us a bottle of water and a couple of glasses which was appreciated. The room was comfortable and warm with a really comfy king size bed and a powerful shower. Even though this room was pet friendly we felt that the room especially the floors could have been a little bit clearer. Breakfast was well set up on a table with good choice of continental and the cooked breakfast was really tasty. The staff on shift at breakfast were also very welcoming. Yes I would recommend this Inn.

It was a nice experience and we really enjoyed it. The room was clean, staff was nice, and food was exquisite. I highly recommend Brown horse inn. Nice view.

Really well located just out of bowness and Windermere - great staff, food was lovely and room was great pet friendly too would highly recommended!

Bed was lumpy, room was hot. Great having Netflix though. Bathroom had a bad smell, sink doesn't drain very well, bath had stains, grout could do with cleaning. Beside sink cabinet has an old bottle caked in cobwebs, obviously not cleaned in a long while. Food was lovely.
