My family absolutely loved this place. Kiddos loved the playground, open space and of course the donkey. What a treasure this location is. Highly recommend. The hosts, food and rooms were all great.

The hotel had a hippy vibe, lovely grounds, many nice plants. Small open lawn for kicking around a soccer ball. Gnomes all over. It was quite chilly, especially when the sun set. Breakfast: included, but we were only able to eat the fruit and juice/coffee. It started being served at 6:30, and our Poas volcano tour started at 7, so we had to leave before the eggs and other food were ready. It ended at 9am. Internet: spotty “Superior” Room: small for 5. There is a bed accessible by pull down attic stairs (that had a crack in it). It was quite hot up there during the day but it cooled off a lot at night. Our 14 year old slept up there. I wouldn’t want a younger child to go up the stairs and have open railing at the top. Our 11 year old slept on the couch (not a convertible). And, our 8 year old slept on the small bed. It has a refrigerator and kitchen sink. There is an interesting covered building with views of the valley below, a tree growing up through the roof, and more gnomes Overlook near the breakfast area is nice. Farm next door with many cows and a donkey. Three big dogs to pet and a friendly cat.

A most spectacular location with awe-inspiring views. Photos from H Altura are on my smartphone lock screen and my laptop wallpaper. The fire pagoda was very nice to help keep the chill away. We were not expecting to be cool when visiting CR. I loved it. My wife, she had a little challenge to stay watm, the only reason I cannot give a full 5 star on every score. They had vegan breakfast for me, which was delicious. Front desk staff were very helpful, and we had many excursions based here.

Wow, what an interesting place. We stayed in 10, over looking the whole San Jose valley. Quiet farm setting with a 2nd to none view. You are staying off the beaten path, in a rainforest, dress warm and for rain, even in the dry season. The breakfast was more than enough and coffee in the room. This place was amazing.

Just amazing! Waking up in front of the forest was a mn amazing experience. We spent one day in the family tent and it was very confy except for the extra bed. I would recommend max 4 people. Breakfast was very good and in the master dome with incredible view. We also loved the firepit event in the evening when we had time to meet with others guests! Definetely worth to stay!

Beautiful property overlooking San Jose, close to Poas volcano. Property is a bit primitive...sort of between glamping and a traditional hotel...gets cold at night. Space heaters provided but bring warm pj's and socks. Breakfast was great. If you want a luxury get away, this is not it. If you are looking for something unique, quiet, on a beautiful property and don't mind foregoing some luxury's, this is a great choice....also loved the cows and a donkey next door and a couple of nice dogs wandering the property...saw some wildlife too.

This is a funky style property, which would have been cool had the amenities been working. The first room had the bathroom flooding that it rained down to the bottom floor. Our new room didn’t have enough hot water for the jacuzzi to work and the heater downstairs was broken. The cottage was damp and cold as was the bed. The staff was lovely though and ready to help as best they could. The grounds of the hotel were very nice.

the dome experience is very nice , this one had a bath, heater, humidifier which was needed, my only real gripe is the the clear area of the dome was filthy, you could hardly see thru it which is the whole point for paying extra to sleep in a dome.

Prendre un chalet avec jacuzzi et devoir le remplir soit même pendant 3h30 n'est pas ce que nous attendions de la proposition initiale de l'hôtel. Le concept est original mais les locaux ne sont pas entretenus et le concept d'intimité revu et corrigé , il faut vraiment s'attendre à avoir les toilettes plantés en pleine pièce ou en plein vis a vis des passants.

J'ai adoré l'endroit. L'aménagement est superbe et la vue est magnifique. La chambre était propre et il a été facile de se faire livrer un souper avec l'aide de notre hôte. Le déjeuner été exellent et servie dans une belle ambiance.

Zéro confort, bref and sofa good for garbage. Window dirty, dog barking during midnight, frigo was t connected when we arrive and the room was so hot and no screen in window to cool down without legging bugs in. Forget this place

Our anniversary trip turned into a nightmare. We booked through Expedia, expecting something beautiful as the pictures and IG profile, but were shocked to find ourselves in a filthy, claustrophobic container room. Creepiness: The room was dusty, the windows were grimy, and the bathroom was so small that even a single person felt cramped. The accordion doors offered zero privacy. Disgusting: The bed, shoved into a tiny corner, was clearly never properly cleaned. The sheets were constantly slipping off, revealing a horrifyingly cheap mattress that groaned with every movement. Unsafe: The only access to the first floor was via a rickety, outdoor staircase – the indoor one looked too dangerous to even attempt. Unhygienic: The coffee mugs were covered in mold and dust. Pathetic: Breakfast consisted of minuscule portions of cold gallo pinto, eggs, and plantains. Avoid this place at all costs. The 9-star reviews are a complete lie. There are far better options nearby. The photos are incredibly misleading.

Es más una Casa - Finca Rural que un Hotel, aunque a precio de Hotel de 4 estrellas. POSITIVO: localización fabulosa para visitar el Volcán Poas a primera hora, personal agradable y servicial, aunque no tienen recepción 24h, bonita finca rural en la montaña, buenas vistas, habitaciones amplias y baños correctos, buen desayuno. NEGATIVO (a mejorar): las habitaciones están descuidadas, camas incómodas, sabanas y toallas viejas, la calefacción es un calefactor ruidoso….muy caro para lo que recibes.

At $150 plus taxes for a “suite” this was way too expensive compared to elsewhere we stayed. Unit had beautiful design but was jammed with ugly and uncomfortable furniture. Wi-Fi stopped working and hence so did much of tv. Lovely grounds, good breakfast and nice staff.

This was one of the most incredible stays we’ve ever had. The views, location, and scenery were breathtaking, and the room was both beautiful and practical. We stayed in the King Suite overlooking the valley, which also had a small rooftop area offering an even more stunning vantage point. From the suite, we could see donkeys and cows roaming below, which only added to the charm and natural beauty of the setting.

An eclectic assortment of accommodation buildings. Nice views over city valley and sunset, cow fields next door. We stayed in the standard room which is on the lower floor in the back 'normal' looking building. Most others are of other construction. Room had enough space including couch. No A/C since it's at about 7000ft elev and cools fast. Has a space heater. Wifi was very weak in room, but better in other areas like the overlook and office. The place is beautiful, well located near Poás volcano, in the mountain with a cute garden and view. We stayed in a standard room the first night, a little bit old but comfortable. Second night in a dome ; the setup is beautiful but can be loud at night if windy or rainig and suite cold ! Breakfast was good, well prepared but small portion !

Quirky setting. We had Unit 6, which was two-story for four people. First floor-all glass with curtains. Second floor appeared to be a converted shipping container. Which was fine and worked out; kind of like a 'tiny house'. We would have opened the windows, but there were no screens, and the smell from the horses next door was overpowering. The interior stairwell is metal (tough on bare feet) steep and not placed in the best location; getting out of the second floor bed could end in disaster if the hatch isn't closed. Otherwise, it was comfortable for our needs, quiet except for some late night voices and dogs barking. Breakfast was included and very good.

We loved our stay at the Altura Hotel. Ramiro checked us in, and he was super friendly and helpful. The hotel is about a 10 minute drive to Poas national part. The property is quite lovely and has a beautiful view, overlooking the city. There is so much attention to detail on the grounds. The breakfast was delicious as well. Highly recommend!

A most spectacular location with awe-inspiring views. Photos from H Altura are on my smartphone lock screen and my laptop wallpaper. The fire pagoda was very nice to help keep the chill away. We were not expecting to be cool when visiting CR. I loved it. My wife, she had a little challenge to stay watm, the only reason I cannot give a full 5 star on every score. They had vegan breakfast for me, which was delicious. Front desk staff were very helpful, and we had many excursions based here.

It was not good. We arrived late in the evening so we understood and we're greatful that they had someone let us into the property even though it is standard in the states to the do this. When we arrived the room was extremely cold and never warmed up with the space heaters provided. We did not have hot water that night and in the morning, no one answered the phone for several hours to come fix the issue. This caused us to be several hours late for our next destination. They took their time and never apologized for the mistake. No discounts offered or anything else.

This hotel was the best hotel i stayed at Costa Rica. The staff were very friendly. The hotel was very quiet. Not many guests were staying there. The room was nice and big and very brand new. The breakfast was a bit far but the walk to there contained a great view. The parking was nice and easy. They give you a flashlight in case you want to go to your car at night. Overall, best hotel.

This is a very beautiful hotel up in the mountains, 10 minutes away from the Poas Volcano entrance. The place is very peaceful, the views are breathtaking and the staff extremely friendly. A delicious cooked homemade Costa Rican breakfast is included. The only ´issue’ I had is that I realized after showering in the evening and after the front desk had closed that there was no hair dryer in the room. Everything would have been perfect if there was one.

A gem in the mountains. Only here for a quick stay on the way to other destinations, but this place deserves a spot on your itinerary. We will come back on a future trip for certain. At night, the stars and city lights were amazing from the patio on our roof. Easy to access on paved roads, despite never driving outside of the US. About an hour from San Jose. The concierge stayed late to let us in. Our room was large and in beautifully constructed single building with a comfortable bed in a quiet area. Waking up to these views is unreal. Highest recommendation.

Just amazing! Waking up in front of the forest was a mn amazing experience. We spent one day in the family tent and it was very confy except for the extra bed. I would recommend max 4 people. Breakfast was very good and in the master dome with incredible view. We also loved the firepit event in the evening when we had time to meet with others guests! Definetely worth to stay!

We went to see the volcano, but it was closed. The staff were very nice and friendly, including offering alternative places to visit. The grounds were well kept and the views were grand. The rooms were nice and reasonably comfortable. One issue, which for some may be positive or negative is the rooster and mule making a racket at 4:00 in the morning. The hot/cold water was so finicky thst you ran the risk of being frozen or scalded. The breakfast was mediocre and the coffee was the worst we had in our two weeks in Costa Rica. It was a nice benefit of staying, but this is Costa Rica, great coffee is a must. I would recommend the Altura Hotel, especially due to the staff.

Great proximity to Poas Volcano! Beautiful view and cozy room. The bathtub did not get very hot, but probably just due to its large size. Gorgeous and unique property close to the Poas Nacional Park. The views were breathtakingly beautiful! We stayed in the Junior Dome and had a relaxing and zen like stay. The property was very cute and quiet in June. There was a nearby dog barking nonstop from a neighbor but not much you can do about that.

Unfortunately we only spent one night here. Beautiful property we wish we could have enjoyed more. The included morning breakfast was excellent. A wonderful breakfast plate is freshly made as you enter their dining area. You don't order anything, they just bring you an tasty Costa Rican breakfast - really one of my highlights of our trip. And having Roberto, the donkey, hang out nearby was fun. Although he kind of woke us up early with his donkey "call" - all good tho. How many times do you get woken up by a donkey? The view overlooking the city was very cool. And speaking of cool, bring a sweatshirt! You may think Costa Rica is 100% warm and tropical - it's not! The Poas volcano is up around 9,000 ft in elevation, so it's cold up there. When we arrived at Hotel Altura the temperature was in the 50's. I wasn't expecting that, nor prepared for that either. A wonderful little find located very close to the Poas Volcano. If Poas is your first stop on your Costa Rican vacation, you can't go wrong staying here. After our stay here, we headed to La Paz Waterfalls which is on the way to Arenal.
