This is not a 3-star hotel, but rather a hostel. Nowhere is it mentioned that the bathroom is shared, even the photos of the room show a bathroom. The place feels desolate and abandoned, the room itself was clean but very sparsely furnished and far from cozy. The shared bathroom lacked anywhere to hang or place one's clothes. The included breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, a type of bread, some cheese and jam, and the option to make your own waffles. This "3-star hotel" is nothing like other 3-star hotels we have stayed at, it is a mystery to us how it earned a 3-star rating. Fortunately, we only had to stay for one night.

We did not realize that this hotel was not in fact in Hvammstangi, but rather a 30 minute drive on a dirt road. However, the location was really beautiful, with horses in the pasture next door, and water views. We had a room with a private bath. We ate dinner in Hvammstangi proper (the restaurant above the Seal Museum), and then drove to the hotel and had late check in at 9:30pm. Breakfast was solid. The room was sparse, but adequate. We just needed a place to sleep, shower, and get breakfast, and this placed sufficed.

Check-in was unorthodox. One of the electrical outlets on the walls falling off of the wall. That made it so I couldn’t charge my cell phone overnight. Otherwise it was fine.

Place was clean but did not have a full bar. The staff was helpful and able to round up some gin to make me a proper drink. Not what I had expected
