Canal Side Inn

Check in was super easy and the room worked out perfectly! Just a heads up…lots of stairs!!!

Did not like steep stairs to third floor. Area is lovely with a scenic river.

The property was well maintained. It was an old, historic building so it does not have all the features that some might expect. There are two flights of stairs to climb and there are window air conditioners. Everything was clean and neat. The maintenance staff was excellent. The continental breakfast across the street was well done. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the hotel.

Staying at the Canal Side in was an "experience". There is no obvious lobby to check-in at. We asked at the restaurant next door and were directed to the 3rd floor of the Stone Mill Inn across the street. The woman there took us back to the doorway next to the restaurant - the room was on the third floor. The Inn doesn't have an elevator, so you'll have to drag your bags up multiple sets of steep stairs. There are lights in the stairwell, they are motion activated and turn off quickly. The room is quaint but dated. Cushioning in the chairs and couch are worn and provide little support. The bed is firm and comfortable however the ceiling fan didn't work and half of the bulbs were missing. Airconditioning is provided by window AC units that are a bit loud. It looks as though the room is heated in the winter by a gas fireplace and a portable electric heater in the bedroom but I can't be certain of this as we visited in the summer months. The bathroom is off the bedroom and is reasonably modern. Internet access was marginal -streaming to the TV periodically dropped out. Overall, the staff are pleasant and friendly but the Inn would benefit from a bit of updating.

Should be told that access to room is straight up a very narrow and steep stairwell. An elderly person is not safe trying to get to this accommodation. Getting luggage to room hazardous.

The rooms are charming. Two issues while we were there.( 1night) 1: the stairway lights turn on w a motion detector but they turn off again after a few seconds. Leaving you walking up stairs and trying to open room door in near complete darkness! Also the bathroom mirror lights in one room didn’t work at all. Staff was nice. And restaurant was excellent.

Property accommodated my need to bring my bicycle to the room since I was on a cycling trip along the Erie Canalway.

There is a working kitchen for those who want to cook or make coffee and a living area separate from bedroom. You will find a do it yourself bike shop area across the street in the mill across the street. There is no reception desk so go into the restaurant/bar below or the old stone mill across the street for information. The other thing to note is there are two flights of stairs to get to the room. It all worked for us.

The purpose of our visit was to teach our dog about long distance cycling, We traveled about 45 miles along the Erie Canal from Amsterdam to Little Falls with an expectation that selecting a bike friendly and pet friendly hotel/inn/B&B would allow us to fulfill our mission. When we arrived we found this bike-friendly Inn had no place to store our bikes safely away from others. We were given the option of locking them to a railing in back which turned out perfectly fine, but wasn't ideal. Later, in the Inn at Stone Mill (a separate but related structure) we found that it should have been possible to safely store the bikes there, especially after hours when they would not have been in the way of any businesses in the building. We found the room lovely, clean, spacious and really amounted to a studio-type apartment. Visually, it was wonderful and a good price. We think the Inn is a creative reuse of an old structure. It is exactly the type of business that can breath new life into legacy architecture. One small criticism is that we think it should be more clearly stated that the stairs are narrow and no elevator option exists in the building we were in (though the option for an elevator does exist in the building across the street). All in all, a great stay and we'd stop by again!

A work in progress. The building is historic. The owner(s) have attempted to improve. However, the property is still in need of serious renovations. (Contacting a historic restoration grant is an option.) Further, we have not had face-to-face contact with any staff; it was only by phone that we connected with a staff member. Little Falls has excellent potential, and I hope that in the future, the Canal Side Inn will become a great stopping point. Until then, I recommend you research the Canal Side Inn before booking to understand where you are staying.

We liked our room and enjoyed the cozy fire. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom and kitchenette were well equipped. More should be said about the steepness and amount of stairs to get to the room . Many people would have found them very difficult . As well the stairway rugs were old and dirty which did not match the coziness of the room itself. A few updates would really add to this experience.

Our suite was very clean and cozy. Loved the complimentary soaps and amenities provided in the bathroom. Our bed was very comfortable.

It was good excercise coming up the stairs to a comfortable lovely room. More spacious then we expected. We would definitely recommend.

Walk up two flights of stairs and understated, rustic style abounds. Located in downtown Little Falls, NY our room was small but comfortable, with all the amenities of home; ie: small kitchen, fridge, toaster and Keurig coffee maker. The bed and mattress were comfortable and we rested soundly in the peace and quiet of revitalized downtown area.

I have had an excellent suite of rooms. The living room is very large. The bedroom is larger than my own bedroom at home. The bathroom is as big as the bedroom. It is exceptionally quiet as well.

While it was not what I expected, no elevator, we made it work to our advantage. Questions were quickly answered and everyone was very nice. I didn't like the $10.00 cost of a box from their UPS office.

Everyone was so nice and friendly! They thought of every detail to make this a great stay. The room and bed was perfect. They had room for our tandem bicycle which was a major plus!! I highly recommend this hotel.

This is a wonderful, historic building at the center of the charming village of Little Falls. It is not fancy, but is authentic and modern in every sense that is important. Service is great, in the hotel and in the dining room. Owner was very responsive to all our needs and questions. We loved the space and wished we had time to stay longer.

Very comfortable and quaint. We were on our way back from Niagra Falls so Little Falls was a great place to stay. Enjoyed the history of the place. The restaurant food was delicious and wonderful service.
