Nice hotel with spacious rooms and efficient air conditioning. The beds are very comfortable and provide a good night’s sleep. Breakfast could be more varied, and we missed having cheese in the omelet ant it would have been nice to have a proper espresso machine in the bar that grinds the beans.

A beautiful places with superb service and a few minuses. Large and nice reception area with a great view of the garden and swimming pool. Got a nice room with an ok bathroom and good aircon, but the bed was really hard and no TV. The power went out a few times during our stay, but it wasn't a big deal. The breakfast was good and plentiful, but I missed some traditional breakfast products like cheese and jam. Unfortunately, some of the staff asked for "extra contributions" and that ruined the overall picture.

Check in went poorly as there was some confusion regarding a change in meal options. Then the room we were put in had a leaky A/C unit so we were moved to another room which we then had problems with the door lock. I have to say that with all of these minor problems they were rectified very quickly. I was surprised to find there was no refrigerator in the rooms but I should have checked the facilities provided. I dont know why they provide a tv when there in nothing you can watch on it and not even a communal tv where sports can be watched. We had opted for the dinner option for the first evening and on going to the restaurant where dinner was being served found a very limited variety of dishes available. After serving myself I returned to my table and started to eat only to find everything was cold. I asked my wife how her food was and she said hers was also cold. I then went and checked the baine maries and found they were all cold, well definitely not anywhere close to the 60 degrees Celsius they should be. I then complained about the cold food and pointed out that the possibility of food poisoning using cold baine maries was a real possibility. They then took my plate of food away and about five minutes later returned with the same plate of food and indicated it had been reheated, again a perfect recipe for food poisoning, but it was actually cold. I then left the restaurant and went to reception asking to see a supervisor or even better the manager. Not good

This was the most magical vacation and guesthouse that we have ever stayed at! The facilities are gorgeous and the staff is so sweet and accommodating (and always available) and we LOVED the big and beautiful pool. I think floating around in the water at night with the palm trees swaying above me was the most magical experience I have ever had. The hotel has wonderful gardens and is situated on a beautiful beach! Concerning the bad reviews- the guesthouse is located in a small town in East Africa and costs under $100 a night for an exotic beachfront guesthouse, I really don't understand why people expect the hotel to be a 5 star resort in California (you want that, you need to expect to pay for it). That means that power is going to go off every now and then (they ALWAYS got it to come back reasonably quickly!), the food is going to be African and take a little while because everything is fresh and often made to order and there may be a few bugs (though we never saw ANY! they were always cleaning and we found everything to be exceptionally clean) I have been a social worker in East Africa for 16 years, and I can say the food is going to be a transition for anyone arriving in the country- it isn't hygiene related, it is just going to be rough for some people who are coming into a new continent with different bacteria. Whenever we host teams, even for the teams that choose to ONLY eat at nice guesthouses and snacks that they brought, people will always get sick.
