Hotel Thissio

This property was convenient and close to attractions…Acropolis, Monastiraki Square, shopping, transportation. It was easy to walk places. Lots of restaurants were nearby. It was quiet. The balcony in our room was great. Fabulous view of the Acropolis and surrounding area. The rooftop restaurant- The View, was very good. The breakfasts each morning were wonderful. Lots of options. All staff were friendly and very attentive. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel! View of the acropolis was absolute perfection, and walking distance from everything you have to see. The staff was 10/10, incredible nice and accommodating, as soon as we started checking in they brought lemonades which was nice and refreshing. The day we visited the acropolis we came back to freshen up and they brought us waters right away because they saw we were sweating haha! Rooms were beautiful, perfectly clean, lots of accommodations, and overall a completely wonderful stay!! Oh and the rooftop restauraunt, AMAZING FOOD I couldn't believe how yummy it all was. Seriously recommend.

Pros: Terry the receptionist couldn’t have been more helpful and gave us free coffee whilst we waited for our room to be ready. Then he wrote out an itinerary for the 2 days we were there which we followed. The Location is great as The Acropolis is just a 10 mins walk, The Agora is 10 mins in the opposite direction and the markets of Monastiraki are about 10 mins walk too. The Thissio Metro is 7 mins from the hotel so very good for travelling further afield. Cons: The hotel has not been maintained and the roof top restaurant is derelict and is dirty and used for storing old pieces of wood. What a waste of a rooftop with a view of the Acropolis. The photos on Expedia of the dining room is not what we saw and we had breakfast in the bar area. Our room had patio doors to the balcony but one door had broken glass in it from top to bottom so we had to be careful opening and closing it in case it shattered. The Fridge door was broken inside so we had to use the shelves instead and not the door. The bathroom door was glass and had dropped from its hinges so it did not close. We also noticed that the smoke alarms were taped up and there were no fire notices anywhere in the room or outside in the corridor just the lit up green light. This hotel is said to be a Non smoking hotel but obviously this proves it is not. Expedia need to pay it another visit and reassess it as it’s no way a VIP Access hotel.

From the minute we stepped out of our taxi we were warmly welcomed by our hostess. She provided a refreshing beverage and then showed us to our room. The view from our room was breathtaking - clear view of the acropolis. The hotel is located in an amazing area - we were able to walk to many different neighborhoods. We had dinner on their rooftop and it was spectacular.

Great view from the property. It's a walkable distance to main parts of Athens. We've had a corner room and it was good. However, bathroom needs a bit of TLC (toilet was leaking). Also the use of traditional door key instead of card keys is inconvenient. The lobby felt like an oven (due to opened doors and windows they had no air-con on. It would be much better if they gave an option of having a breakfast in the air-conditioned room instead of outside at 30 C. Breakfast was nice and tasty though and staff were very friendly and attentive. It's quite noisy outside until late hours (1-2AM) because even after they close the restaurant staff often hangs out outside after they finish work and they can be a bit loud. We only stayed there 3 nights before the cruise; it's probably ok for short stays but I wouldn't stay there for a longer holiday as they don't have a gym or a swimming pool or a solarium to sunbathe.

The location of this hotel is wonderful, walkable to lots of restaurants and little tourist shops and a nice welcome. however the comfort and cleanliness need work. There were a lot of hairs on the floor of the rooms and bathrooms, the room needed a good sweep and a good mop, the bed was very hard and no mattress protector, only an extra sheet.. not ideal. The safe was not attached to anything and could have been taken away very easily. Breakfast wqs underwhelming and The rooftop bar lacked atmosphere and the view of the acropolis was obscured by railings! All in all a disappointing stay

Nice hotel, room was adequate for our stay. Bathroom/shower was very small, barely enough room for one person to move around in it. Balcony view was an awesome view of the Acropolis. Breakfast was included in the price of the hotel. Staff was very friendly.

It is a nice and clean hotel not far from the Acropolis. Our hotel room had a view of the Parthenon. The bathroom was clean and had enough towels, but the shower was quite small. The bed was smaller than usual (narrower and shorter) and it would have been more comfortable for me if it was softer, but the pillows were soft. The hotel is located in an area where there are many restaurants. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was tasty and the meals from the breakfast menu can be ordered in the restaurant in front of the hotel, and this is also a significant problem for the hotel, because on the first day we waited about 20 minutes for the preparation of sunny side up eggs after ordering. On the second day, we waited for the preparation of sunny side up eggs for over 30 minutes, and on the third day, we waited for the preparation of the fruit plate (two sliced ​​apples, five sliced ​​strawberries, one sliced ​​banana and six grapes) for over 45 minutes, so speed is a big weakness in the hotel. We were missing a tissue box in the room. The walls were very thin and we could hear the neighbors next to us and other guests in the hallway. Last night I heard my neighbor through the wall snoring 😳. The noise was even through the windows (which were well closed). The floor creaked in places. So staying at the hotel for a price of over 150 Euros per night was very disappointing. Everything cannot be excused or to say that we paid a higher price for the view.

Our stay was absolutely perfect. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed. We loved the food, and the service was top-notch. Great views of the Acropolis and a perfect neighborhood. Super close to the metro and walkable to nearly everything. Honestly, we can't recommend this place enough.

This was my first holiday in Europe and it started in Athens and I was very lucky to choose this great hotel. Very clean, central and with very friendly staff. I didn't have time to thank all the staff for their attention and good treatment of my family. The stay included breakfast and it was very good. There are many restaurants nearby and the hotel has its own and it is very good. We had a great view of the Acropolis from our balcony. If I ever return to Athens... I'll stay here!

Our stay at this fantastic hotel was truly memorable, and we can’t wait to return! The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and beautifully designed. The breakfast was a highlight freshly prepared, delicious, and varied, served in a warm, inviting setting. Perfectly located and impeccably maintained, this hotel is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

The Hotel positives are: cleanliness and location. I don’t know why the hotel is a VIP Hotel as there was no acknowledgement of the status and the perk was only given after reminders two days later. At check-in we’re told breakfast was served at 8 am but no one really cared, they said they usually have buffet but now there is a construction site. After two attempts to have breakfast at the hotel, which was a stressful experience, we decided to have breakfast elsewhere. Most of the staff is unfriendly, housekeeping is done deliberately, the corridors are noisy. There is a television but only with greek programmes and when having a shower water is running from all sorts of areas.

The area has many good restaurants and shops, plus we could walk to the Acropolis and museum for our tours. It was also walking distance from the Hop On/Off bus to tour the city and beaches. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Thissio. Staff greeted us on arrival with two glasses of lemonade ready and waiting for us. We had a lovely, corner room with two sliding glass doors, each leading to a balcony with views of the Acropolis, which is located just a short walk away. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. We had a delicious meal at the rooftop restaurant. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was served under a covered table across the street. We both had delicious omelettes, and the coffee was also wonderful. Our corner room had a lovely bathroom, but we encountered some functional difficulties. The bathroom has a heavy glass door, which looks terrific, but has a very small, round knob for opening the door. The small knob was problematic, in that it was difficult to grip it to open and close the door. The sink was also lovely, but the faucet stuck out too long and low over the sink. It made it difficult to wash our faces, because the faucet got in the way. That necessitated moving to the side of the faucet, resulting in water getting splashed outside the sink. There was a bathtub but no shower. There was a shower attachment and a place to sit on the side of the tub, but no way to keep water from spraying everywhere. However, it could be that we just weren't used to that type of setup, as we've not seen it in the USA. Bathroom aside, we loved our stay at Hotel Thissio. Highly recommend it.

Great and helpful staff, very accommodating! Hotel and rooftop restaurant had beautiful views of the Acropolis. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the included breakfast was really good! The rooms were nice, neat and clean. There was noise around the area and can be heard inside the room, but it was tolerable and you are located in a very touristy area. Overall, extremely pleased.

Lovely room, incredible views of Acroplis Pantheon and other sites. We had corner room, bed was very comfortable. We canceled another hotel to stay here again.

This is one of my favourite hotels I’ve stayed at. We stayed for one night at the end of a cruise before flying home. Terry and his team are so friendly—nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. They were happy to look after our bags before we checked in and after we checked out. The location is so convenient for the Acropolis and everywhere else we wanted to see in Athens. Our room was comfortable, the view was spectacular, and breakfast was delicious. What more could you ask for. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Hotel was under renovation so banging and noise from 8am until as late as 10pm. No breakfast as stated when booked. At check in, the staff were not even aware of our booking! Staff very unprofessional, no clue who was actual hotel staff or workmen. Did nothing extra to make our stay better whilst it was a building site. One night we were awoken around midnight to another couple entering our room. This turned out to be one of the male staff from the hotel who had brought an unknown female back to the hotel to use an empty room. He got keys to the wrong room and just walked straight into our room. When we got dressed to investigate the hotel reception were not helpful at all, denying it had happened and staying it was not possible someone else had come into the room. It took us to go back upstairs to get the male from the hotel to admit what had happened. Absolutely disgraceful service. No apology from either the male involved, hotel reception or hotel management. Clearly an acceptable culture within the hotel. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone! Completely tainted our holiday and memories of Athens.

Location was Great! Easy to get to Acropolis and other sites. Manager, Garifalia, works hard to make everything Perfect! We will definitely stay here next time we are in Athens.

Absolutely fantastic! The communciatuon was prompt and friendly. The staff was so kind and accomodating with us arriving before the check-in time. Our room was already ready and the staff provided us a map with recommendations on how to best use our time while in Athens. And the view? - SPECTACULAR! Ten out of 10 would recommend and return to this location.

Great location and service. Quiet, but we were there off-season. I think it might be noisy during high season as the strip it’s on is full of restaurants with street patios.

The view of Acropolis from the room was amazing.. All the main attractions are at walkable distance.. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Situation idéale pour la visite de l'Acropole (6-7 minutes à pieds) et d'un arrêt principal des bus hop-on/hop-off (4-5 minutes). Vue incroyable sur l'Acropole. Nombreux restos à proximité. 10-15 minutes de Plaka et Symtagma. Très bon petit déjeuner. Repas du soir sur la terrasse sur le toit avec vue sur l'Acropole éclairée - wow! Et Terry, le gérant (ou le proprio?) : une perle! Accueillant, sympathique, serviable. Je n'écris pas souvent de critiques, mais celui-ci vaut vraiment la peine.
