Puerto Azul Hotel

Our stay at Puerto Azul Hotel Y Club Nautico was good overall. They accommodated our very late check-in at 1:30 am, which was appreciated since our flight was late getting into San Jose. The breakfast was good, and we also attended a boat tour to Tortuga Island, which departed directly from the docks at the hotel, which was very convenient. It’s probably the best, safest place to stay in the area, though Puntarenas isn’t really well known for tourists. It was a convenient location for a few different excursions we wanted to do, such as Monteverde and Tortuga Island, and the hotel fulfilled all of our needs. We likely wouldn’t stay in Puntarenas again otherwise, but this has nothing do to with the hotel. It was comfortable and the staff was great.

Puterenas is a busy port and not really a center for tourism. I reserved here as a halfway point from Tamarindo to Quepos. What a wonderful surprise. Beautiful large condo unit with fabulous views of the water and boats on both sides of the property. 2 great pools, full professional gym with all the machines and free weights, and a great little restaurant.

People at the front desk were friendly and accommodating. The parking lot is in bad shape and dark at night. The pillows were not clean. They had a strong odor to sweat. They offer the same breakfast every single day “Pinto, sour cream, eggs, and cheese so be aware that you will be on the same diet if you stay for more than one night.

We were in the tower which has great views and AC in the main room and bedrooms. Kitchen window was broken and wouldn't go shut all the way but only 1cm. Pool areas were beautiful and clean. Rooms were clean and spacious which was wonderful! We enjoyed the floor to ceiling windows that allowed us to take full advantage of the great view.

Poor management as they have a gym below the room we stayed in that had blaring pounding music. It stopped at 9:00 pm but we were traveling and needed rest. It was a poor decision by who ever allowed that business to be in a hotel.

El hotel es limpio y bonito... Muy accesible y el desayuno está bien.. tiene la ventaja que de ahí salen tours muy baratos. Como desventajas pero no significativas, hay pocas sillas alrededor de la piscina y no hay una playa bonita cerca...

The Elevators were not working and my 80 year old mother in law and disabled sister in law had to walk up 7 flights of stairs. Beautiful view minimally furnished not even big enough couch for all of us to sit and no other chairs. Great food and service at the bar and awesome pool!

Propre à l’intérieur de l’établissement en général mais manque d’entretien. Il y aurait des besoins de rénovation. La piscine n’était pas propre. Les jardins, chaises et tables étaient sales. Leonardo à l’accueil a été très gentil. Déjeuner très bien mais le personnel n’était pas super accueillant

Todo muy limpio , el personal del hotel muy atentos y amables

Los pisos están descuadrado y se ven con huecos, el baño está con falta de mantenimiento tanto en pintura como en los accesorios; toallero de baño se sale de la pared, el cabezal de la ducha está malo y bota agua por todo el baño. El olor a humedad es muy fuerte en las sábanas.

I liked that it was close to the pick up for the Tortuga Island tour. The cleanliness was missing along with the place is very rundown. Our front door did not even close evenly the top had a two finger gap. The bathroom and the rooms were very dingy and the furniture literally falling off the walls. The bathroom was very strange looking, dim light and run down. This whole place needs to be closed and renovated.

The rooms and hallway were always clean. The front desk people did all they could to help us. The only issues I had was the restaurant. There was nothing to eat! The breakfast they provided was rather bad.

El estado del Hotel es aceptable. Pero el servicio de Internet Wi-Fi es una basura. Los colchones de las camas están viejos y muy duros se le salen los resortes.En los servicios sanitarios de los cuartos no hay jabón ni champú: se piden recepción, horas de horas y nunca te lo llevan a tu habitación. El señor de seguridad que está en las noches don Rodrigo, un adulto mayor brinda un servicio espectacularmente profesional. Lo felicito

The staff was super helpful. Much better than in USA. They went above and beyond to help me visit the nearby Tortuga Island. Breakfast options were somewhat limited but everything was delicious. Wifi worked well and we all had a great night’s sleep. Will definitely use this hotel again for any return trip to Puntarenas.

We stayed in the tower where the rooms were huge but since this building was originally been designed for condos the staff didn’t know how to equip it as a hotel room. To bad as the location and views were beautiful!

The views from the higher rise building are exceptional especially river view from the 5th floor. We loved breakfast and pool time here - stayed two nights and didn’t leave the resort! Some party noises on the Sat night and into the wee hours but expected given we are on holiday!

We loves the room with a great view of the ocean on one side and the marinas on the othe side. We had a fully funcional kitchen. It was a great location for driving to many excursiones in the surrounding area.

The rooms didn’t have TV, kitchen appliances were limited at the suite. Pool chairs were broken plus minimum quantity available

Everyone was very kind and attentive.

First the good part: Cindy, a member of the wait staff (at breakfast time) in the restaurant was attentive, professional, friendly, and a joy to know. That's the end of the good. Everything else was bad. We were a late arrival (11:30PM). We tried to call ahead of time (before 5PM), but no one answered the phone. When we arrived, at a non-manned reinforced gate with absolutely no signage or identification that we had even found the right place, we pressed the button at the entrance, and it was answered with chaotic background noise and speaking; no one even addressing us (in any language). After 2-3 minutes, we were about to leave, when the gate opened, and a security guard appeared. She presented us with the room key, and directed us to our room. So now the condition of the room: One of the two bathrooms had no soap, and did not smell clean. In the other, the sink didn't drain, the shower didn't drain, and the toilet ran until you manually lifted the handle. There was one towel provided, no hand towels, no wash cloths, and no floor mat towel. No one was in the office, so there was no one to call for the issues to be addressed (and perhaps move us to a more presentable and functional room). Apparently there was supposed to be a welcome card with this information, but there wasn't one. The room was hot, and the air conditioner was weak enough that it didn't get cool for more than an hour - well after we went to bed. Mgmt offered little empathy and no compensation.

El aire acondicionado nunca funcionó, el restaurante es muy lento atendiendo, puede ser mejor que vayan a otro lado si tienen hambre para no esperar, el desayuno no inicio a la hora que indican, me parece el precio alto para lo que ofrecen, por menos se puede conseguir un establecimiento al que le funcione el aire acondicionado que es vital en la zona, avise y lo único que me dijeron fue vamos a apuntarlo acá para revisar. Esperaba más del hotel.

Rooms comfortable and clean although fittings are cheap chipboard and coming away from walls. Receptionist (Brian) was great as was manager but restaurant staff were rude and reluctant to serve one of the breakfast options despite there being an hour left of service. In the end they did but with much huffing and shaking of heads. Shame as they let the rest of the staff down.

The staff were so friendly and helpful. The restaurant on site, El Timon, was excellent and Leo was our server a couple of different times. He went above and beyond to make our experience a positive one. The scenery around the resort was spectacular and offered some opportunities for watching wildlife. We had a great experience at Puerto Azul and would stay there again.

The staff were excellent in every way. Bryan in reception did a fantastic job. People make the difference.

After coming off the Ferry from Paquera at night, it’s a very safe, gated beautiful resort in an otherwise dicey neighborhood.

This hotel looks nothing like the photos. It did at one point I’m sure, but it is in need of a lot of repairs on the inside. Many things were broken, the section where our room was had peeling flooring, and it looked nothing like the photos. The only positive was the outdoor area which was very nice. But inside was bad, and the area was even worse. There is nothing close by and appeared to be a dangerous area.

The hotel was conveniently located near the ferry. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was very good.

Staff and food were good. Just staying on the property would make it a fine place to stay but there was nothing within walking distance to do.

A decent place to stay if you have to be in Puntareans. Room needs better maintenance. Lots of little things wrong but usuable. The pool was quite nice. Has a good gym. Dinner at restaurant was very good. There were a lot of mosquitoes. They should work harder to control them. A lot of road noise on that side of hotel, pay more and stay on the marina side. Nothing in walking distance. Taxis were oddly expensive.

Overall it was a good experience. Breakfast was traditional. Gym has the basics you need for a work out. Beach is right in front at a walkable distance, everything else you need transportation.

Every thing was excellent just breakfast was super simple not for 4 stars hotel.

Property was in total disrepair. Many things, old, broken and not repaired. Food at restaurant old and tasteless. Breakfast was just Gallo Pinto and scrambled eggs. Hard to get a cup of coffee and no juice. Overall everything was old dirty out of date and pretty gross. We stayed here a couple years ago and it was wonderful. I’m not sure what happens if the owners changed or just decided to give up on repairs and training of staff.

The only reason you want to stay here if you’re headed very very early in the morning to isla tortuga the place would be good for that purpose only! Because there is pretty much no other good options around! Literally the area is in a very rough place! Don’t walk anywhere forget going to the beach.. it’s not good ! The restaurants food is very poor( dinner) or lunch. But for breakfast it is actually not bad at all I was amazed, because I set my expectations so low when we had dinner there, the breaks turned out good! The place needs lots and lots of maintenance.. paint and complete renovation! From outside and inside .. it may have good potential if they fix it up. The pool is okay but even the pool looks in a poor condition.. everything is really outdated and worn out inside out… the people and the staff are super nice and pleasant so at least they have that. Hopefully they fix it up … and I may return .

Buena ubicación, buen servicio. Comida del restaurante muy cara de acuerdo a la cantidad y calidad. En los baños es necesario poner barandas para personas mayores o con discapacidad, no tiene y e hizo dificil para la persona que iba con nosotros.
