I can’t say enough about how this lodging is a slice of heaven on so many fronts-gorgeous nature, sparkling clean, comfortable and hospitable rooms, attention to sustainability which is so important, very accommodating. Loved the ability to share the main lodge and eat on real plates utensils and the fireplace and fire pits onsite. It was a truly memorable weekend and thank you. We will return!

Wonderful location, great place to unplug and spend time with family! Lots of perks like hot chocolate, teas, coffee, plenty of board games, books, comfy books to read in and enjoy the view. The pups and kitty are a lovely addition, pups are super friendly. Owners are kind and helpful. Will definitely come again!

Amazing! It far exceeded our expectations. Super clean, comfy beds, cozy lodge with coffee, well-equipped kitchen. Beautiful property and views! Quiet and private feeling. What a find! 5 mins from Toe River, bring tubes. Highly recommend! Seriously so great!

This is a wonderful property that values its guests. It seems they have thought of everything, Besides the wonderful and beautiful outdoor environment, the suites are a perfect, comfortable size with a clean, modern feel especially for a former ranch. The a/c & heat was so quiet! Throw pillows and lap blankets are a big plus. Great coffee, freedom to come up to the Lodge to cook our meals in the well-provided for kitchen and even take dishes & flatware to the room meant I need not have brought half of what I did bring. Sitting on the front porch in rocking chairs watching the sunlight play on the trees and mountains; playing cards or other games in the sizable lodge with the opp to meet others; sitting around a fire in Adirondack chairs and making S'mores; hiking on the trails, was all so enjoyable! Next time we will stay longer and use the grills. Pure relaxation. ML & GW

The Eco Retreat's location is amazing. The retreat provides an awesome communal cooking arrangement steps away from the beautiful view of the Black Mountains. The location was fantastic and a great option to the standard hotel view. While there are other locations with a mountain view in the area, Mount Mitchell Eco Retreat surpasses them in the acreage of privacy and uninterrupted views of the mountains.

Beautiful property The rooms were absolutely amazing, super clean. A very luxurious cabin with fridge, microwave, coffee pot The place is indeed a retreat from the city. Plan to bring your food and they have an excellent kitchen with all utensils, plates, cups and all beautiful family owners always checking to ensure guests are comfortable Would love to come back!

Loved the location and the quietness of the area, cabin we stayed in was perfect, just wished we could have stayed longer. Definitely planning a return and telling friends about the stay. Made a friend in Olive, the owners dog, she's good company on a walk around the property. The lodge and kitchen are great, if you like to cook everything is there for you, and you don't have to smell up your cabin if you burn anything on the stove (not that we did, just a thought). Hiking and sights are all around you, great place to stay to recharge and step away from the hustle and angst we face... Awesome stay!!!!

Great cozy spot in the mountains. We really enjoyed meeting up with our travel companions in the mornings and evenings in the Main Lodge. Next time we stay we'll take advantage of the kitchen facilities but we enjoyed the hot chocolate, tea and coffee during our stay. The rooms were immaculate and adorable, beds were comfortable.

Great place to escape and be one with nature. Beautiful property and the cabins are extremely clean and comfortable. Owners are A as well. My wife and I are already planning a trip back with our hiking group.

The Eco Lodge is a perfect place for anyone needing a rest from a hectic schedule or urban lifestyle. The grounds with wildflowers blooming and secluded walkways are very appealing and conducive to rest and relaxation.The view from the lodge of the 6,000 foot peaks of the Black Mountains was spectacular. The room was decorated well and very clean.The bed and bedding was excellent. The bathroom is quiet large with quality towels. It also is very affordable!

We loved our stay! My children had the best time playing around along with the dogs from the retreat! The room is spacious, very clean and looks brand new. We loved the decoration and the community kitchen! We will be back!

This is off the beaten path so be prepared and stock up on snacks/food before you get there. I stayed in Pisgah and the room was very spacious, ridiculously clean (cleaner than many of the nice chain hotels I have stayed at), and super cute. It came with a white noise machine that was needed as you can hear your neighbors (I heard mine snoring). There is parking right next to the cabin. WiFi worked great. The biggest *complaint* was I never saw the resident dogs. I was looking forward to petting them!

I can’t say enough great things about this place. The attention to detail is noticed. I don’t normally write reviews but I feel like this place deserves that. Check in super easy, my room was ready early, everything seems new and clean and it’s a beautiful property.

What an amazing property and experience. We stayed at the Winter Star which is located near the main building- quite convenient. The rooms are super spacious, clean and very well laid out. Love the fact their are no TV’s which only would distract from the experience. Great WiFi service to allow for internet calling since their is no cell signal. I’d recommend this to anyone who is interested in disconnecting from the world and just getting away from it all.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this lodge. The room was clean and had the basic amenities of a hotel. It was nice that we could bring mugs and plates from the main lodge back to our room. I also really liked the trash and recycle containers in our room. We had a beautiful view of the mountains. I would definitely recommend the mountain view, as the water view would have been disappointing. Our only negative experience was when we tried to cancel the reservations a couple of hours after booking through Expedia when we learned some areas nearby were still closed due to Hurricane Helene. It's on us for getting a non-refundable reservation, but it's on the lodge for canceling our reservation after talking to Expedia... Expedia contacted the lodge to try and get a refund on our behalf, but the lodge would not refund us. Expedia then left it to us to manage the reservation as we wished. We decided to keep our reservation since we would not get a refund. Thankfully, I called the lodge after they talked to Expedia to confirm our reservations because the lodge had canceled them. They were good about rebooking.

We had a beautiful sunset over Mt. Mitchell from our porch on our first evening. Then we woke up to a beautiful ice show from Mother Nature. The comfort room with full size refrigerator and microwave was perfect for our weekend anniversary celebration! Thank you to the owners and staff!

The property is well kept and very clean. No restaurants near by, so be prepared with provisions. A bit strange that everything is done via email/text. But it works. Great kitchen if you plan to cook (30 minute span). I would definitely stay again if in the area.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this lodge. The room was clean and had the basic amenities of a hotel. It was nice that we could bring mugs and plates from the main lodge back to our room. I would definitely recommend the mountain view, as the water view would have been disappointing. Our only negative experience was when we tried to cancel the reservations a couple of hours after booking through Expedia when we learned some areas nearby were still closed due to Hurricane Helene. It's on us for getting a non-refundable reservation, but it's on the lodge for canceling our reservation after talking to Expedia... Expedia contacted the lodge to try and get a refund on our behalf, but the lodge would not refund us. Expedia then left it to us to manage the reservation as we wished. We decided to keep our reservation since we would not get a refund. Thankfully, I called the lodge after they talked to Expedia to confirm our reservations because the lodge had canceled them. They were good about rebooking.

Beautiful property The rooms were absolutely amazing, super clean. A very luxurious cabin with fridge, microwave, coffee pot The place is indeed a retreat from the city. Plan to bring your food and they have an excellent kitchen with all utensils, plates, cups and all beautiful family owners always checking to ensure guests are comfortable Would love to come back!

our day was really great! We enjoyed the seclusion and the lodge was very comfortable and open 24 seven which was great! The self check in was also something that we like. Ability just to drive up and unload our things and walk into our room with no hassle was great. but the sunrise and the sunset were beautiful and the location was just what we were looking for in order to get away from everything enjoy the quiet of the natural setting. The owl at night was a particular enjoyment for us both :-)

We enjoyed our stay at the Mount Mitchell Eco Retreat. The accommodations were great, and the view of the mountains from our room was breathtaking. We did not realize the resort was not closer to Burnsville. It was not too far a drive, and the road there was a lot easier than the road to Marion. We also enjoyed the close access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Overall, we would recommend the lodge to others traveling in this area.

If a quiet, calm, leisurely time away is what you’re looking for, than this is the place. Sadly, there is still evidence of the disaster visible throughout the community, but it’s nice to see life there is mending. Be forewarned though that these duplex style cabins are set up like hotel rooms; they have the fridge and microwave, but the kitchen facility is located in the main building. That said, the kitchen is very large and resembles that of a cook-to-serve bed and breakfast - it’s quite large. The location is the moneymaker though - it’s right up the hill from a shallow accessible river. Naturally, all the other wonderful things about these mountains are near enough too! We toured caverns, visited a winery, and founds gemstones! To top off the evening, Lightning Bugs (a.k.a. Fire Flies) lit up the night presenting quite the display!

The Eco Retreat's location is amazing. The retreat provides an awesome communal cooking arrangement steps away from the beautiful view of the Black Mountains. The location was fantastic and a great option to the standard hotel view. While there are other locations with a mountain view in the area, Mount Mitchell Eco Retreat surpasses them in the acreage of privacy and uninterrupted views of the mountains.

Loved the location, peacefulness, and beauty. The cabin was cozy and inviting. Sat on the porch every night to watch the sun set and view the stars. The location is close to small towns and anything on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The dogs were a bonus and super cute! I’d absolutely stay here again and highly recommend!!

Wonderful location, great place to unplug and spend time with family! Lots of perks like hot chocolate, teas, coffee, plenty of board games, books, comfy books to read in and enjoy the view. The pups and kitty are a lovely addition, pups are super friendly. Owners are kind and helpful. Will definitely come again!

This is a wonderful property that values its guests. It seems they have thought of everything, Besides the wonderful and beautiful outdoor environment, the suites are a perfect, comfortable size with a clean, modern feel especially for a former ranch. The a/c & heat was so quiet! Throw pillows and lap blankets are a big plus. Great coffee, freedom to come up to the Lodge to cook our meals in the well-provided for kitchen and even take dishes & flatware to the room meant I need not have brought half of what I did bring. Sitting on the front porch in rocking chairs watching the sunlight play on the trees and mountains; playing cards or other games in the sizable lodge with the opp to meet others; sitting around a fire in Adirondack chairs and making S'mores; hiking on the trails, was all so enjoyable! Next time we will stay longer and use the grills. Pure relaxation. ML & GW

The property is well kept and very clean. No restaurants near by, so be prepared with provisions. A bit strange that everything is done via email/text. But it works. Great kitchen if you plan to cook (30 minute span). I would definitely stay again if in the area.

Beautiful! Newly renovated, amazing views. Communal kitchen, tons of organic foods/snacks, friendly owners. Loved the doggies too! Only suggestion would be adding a hot tub and maybe a on site small restaurant. Highly recommend!

Great spot to stay for just overnight if you're cruising the Blue Ridge Pkwy or for a week if you want to visit the Asheville NC area. Quiet, away from the crowds of Asheville. Burnsville NC is close for eating (Pigs & Grits GOOD BBQ!!!)

This property is great for peace and quiet. The damage in the area from hurricane Helene has shut down a lot of trails, waterfalls, and parks. However, it is still very beautiful and we will continue to travel to the area and hopefully stay at this retreat again. Right now it's smart to bring your own food, there aren't very many places to go out to eat unless you prefer fast food. The main highway also has a beautiful gift shop. Spend your money locally, they need your help! I loved it there, we only saw a few people the whole time(our neighbor and the employee/owner)we were there but they were full of smiles and very nice! I recommend 💯. Thank you for your hospitality, we will be back!

Great cozy spot in the mountains. We really enjoyed meeting up with our travel companions in the mornings and evenings in the Main Lodge. Next time we stay we'll take advantage of the kitchen facilities but we enjoyed the hot chocolate, tea and coffee during our stay. The rooms were immaculate and adorable, beds were comfortable.

It was nicero be in the mountains. The only downside is no breakfast unless u make it yourself. Too much like being at home. Lol. Otherwise it was a nice way to do a pre birthday celebration.

The place is beautiful and tucked into the woods. I recommend taking a screenshot of the instructions while you have cell service since it cuts in and out when you're that deep in the hills. You have wifi in the room which is great. Loved the property! There's a community kitchen in the lodge for all your cooking needs.
