Disappointing in every single aspect of hotel services. A/C out, silly fan option provided little relief from tropical summer heat. Food, mediocre and over priced, including a suprising $8 fee for room service! Staff, helpless and clueless. Sauna door doesn't close, so sauna doesn't heat properly. No clean towels available at pool. We are local. We have stayed here many times in the past. We will not return

Really luxury property. So quiet. We had dinner and breakfast there and enjoyed the pool in the morning. Definitely worth it !

Property nice and quaint / needs up dating and the grounds could be kept better. Great for relaxing. Excursions are overpriced when booking at hotel. Suggest booking directly for excursions. Beware of the water drought, we woke up one morning to drizzle water usage with no notice from staff

Absolutely beautiful! It is not a new hotel so don’t expect it to be. It a an amazing old boutique hotel. And shows heritage of Costa Rica. Definitely stay there again. Please the restaurant was fantastic and I never say that. Loved that they had a sauna because it gets cool at night and we enjoyed the sauna and a swim

The staff and the property are wonderful. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and the hotel is beautiful. The bar/restaurant is old-school cool, and the room is clean, quiet and authentic. We have loved our stay and would highly recommend

Great experience over all. Room was clean and comfortable. The room did have AC, but it did not cool well. That said, the screened patio doors allowed us to stay cool with the very pleasant night air. The restaurant was good, and the wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The best experience was the efforts the staff went to in order to provide breakfast. We were a party of eight, and had a pickup time of 7:00am to travel to our next destination. As the restaurant did not open for breakfast until 7:00am, the front desk staff went far above and beyond our expectations to work with the restaurant to put together takeaway breakfast boxes for all eight of us! Really unexpected, and very much appreciated! The overall service is unbeatable.

This place was a gem. There were minor things in need of touch ups due to the age of the hotel which is understandable but it honestly just added to the beauty. It was private and quiet and we felt like we were in a palace. The rooms were beautiful, the hotel had so much charm and the little added touches they included for us were such a treat. Possibly my favorite hotel we stayed at.

Myself, my wife, and another couple booked the Alta Hotel for a recent stay. We were traveling to Costa Rica for a friends wedding, and we chose the Alta Hotel based on the good reviews, beautiful photos, and its location. There were other more affordable options in the area, but I didn't mind paying more for a really nice hotel. After we checked in and signed everything, we were told that the air conditioning in the entire hotel was broken, and could not be fixed. I totally understand that things happen, however I feel like the hotel should have warned us of this issue before arriving in Costa Rica. We would have not stayed here if we had known ahead of time. I do feel like the fair thing to do would have to given us a partial refund as we did pay a lot of money to stay here. They had a fan in the room, but that did not do much. The entire stay the room was hot and humid. We had a balcony which was nice, but if left open during the day made the room even hotter. The hotel would not give us a refund. They did give us free breakfast for our stay which was nice, but I do still feel like we should have not had to pay as much for our stay due to this problem. It made getting ready for the wedding and sleeping every night very uncomfortable. The room was also not very clean upon check in, however the housekeeping team did do a great job everyday touching it up. The best part of the hotel is the restaurant and staff there. I will leave a separate good review for them.

The only thing I would change is that they don’t clean your room unless it’s asked and the shower door wouldn’t close so every time single time you showered, the bathroom would flood

We enjoyed everything about our stay. It was a very unique space that looks like a small castle. The room was spacious, the beds comfortable. We spent a fair amount of time enjoying the magnificent views from the balcony. The pool area was cool. Location was great, not far from Escazu. Highly recommend.

Air conditioning was broken, they never did nothing to fix it or offer another option to make my stay more comfortable, it is Costa Rica it was HOT, I could not sleep at night due how hot it was. Food was good one day and next day was awful, and then again good. Never consistent.

Dieses Hotel besticht durch Charme und kreativer Gestaltung. Die Zimmer waren für 3 Personen etwas eng, aber insgesamt ausreichend. Ein schöner Balkon entschädigt für das etwas kleine Zimmer. Leider war kein Kühlschrank dort verfügbar, kleines Mango an der so sonst sehr gepflegten Anlage des Hotels. Das Restaurant war gut, das Service Personal ist stehts bemüht und die freundliche aber etwas aufgesetzte Art schmälert die Bewertung in diesem Punkt. Schöne Lage mit Blick auf die Stadt, Parken ist perfekt, nach 22 Uhr sollte man sich für die Einfahrt anmelden.

I liked its unique boutique style. I appreciated the balcony but the balcony doors do not block out much sound and doors from another room were rattling all night. Fortunately I slept with earplugs, otherwise it would’ve been a problem.

The air conditioning was broken for our 5 night stay and we weren’t informed until after check in. It was very warm during our stay and we had a wedding to attend off site. Getting ready in the hot afternoon was unpleasant and the nights were uncomfortable. They did not offer us any type of refund and we were not able to switch hotels. You just expect more from a luxury hotel. I’m giving three stars because the restaurant staff were lovely.

Nice hotel, the staff is super nice. The room was lovely however, the safe didn't work, the mini refrigerator was missing and the bed was really hard. Location was ideal, the food was excellent and once again, the staff was amazing. The front desk receptionist moved us the next day from #25 to #45 - and that room was ideal! In fact, I think that is the Grand Suite we actually paid for. One more thing of importance to note - prior to arriving, we had gotten an email asking if we wanted a pickup at the airport, we said yes, they said $45 - no one ever came; both an airport staff and taxi said they don't even have a car! Confirmed with hotel that they don't offer and I even showed them their email - that's sloppy.

Todo excelente, comida muy rica y bien presentada, lugar y servicio. Solo que me dejaron fuera una noche, llegue de una cena de negocios a las 11:30 pm y nadie me abría, después de 20 minutos golpeando la puerta al final me abrieron, esta persona me comento que le habían dicho que estaban todos los huéspedes dentro y por eso cierran el hotel, me parece una medida peligrosa, debería haber alguien en la recepción, y si una persona tiene una urgencia o un dolor y tiene que salir a un hospital?
Todo excelente, comida muy rica y bien presentada, lugar y servicio. If I could review them with zero stars I would. The customer service is the worst we have encountered in our multiple trips to Costa Rica. Very nice hotel. Great views form every room. Loved the food! My ac did not worked properly; the day I left, I found no one at 6am to help me with my check out or open the front gate to catch my Uber to the airport. Had to force my way out.

Myself, my wife, and another couple booked the Alta Hotel for a recent stay. We were traveling to Costa Rica for a friends wedding, and we chose the Alta Hotel based on the good reviews, beautiful photos, and its location. There were other more affordable options in the area, but I didn't mind paying more for a really nice hotel. After we checked in and signed everything, we were told that the air conditioning in the entire hotel was broken, and could not be fixed. I totally understand that things happen, however I feel like the hotel should have warned us of this issue before arriving in Costa Rica. We would have not stayed here if we had known ahead of time. I do feel like the fair thing to do would have to given us a partial refund as we did pay a lot of money to stay here. They had a fan in the room, but that did not do much. The entire stay the room was hot and humid. We had a balcony which was nice, but if left open during the day made the room even hotter. The hotel would not give us a refund. They did give us free breakfast for our stay which was nice, but I do still feel like we should have not had to pay as much for our stay due to this problem. It made getting ready for the wedding and sleeping every night very uncomfortable. The room was also not very clean upon check in, however the housekeeping team did do a great job everyday touching it up. The best part of the hotel is the restaurant and staff there. I will leave a separate good review for them.

Nice hotel, the staff is super nice. The room was lovely however, the safe didn't work, the mini refrigerator was missing and the bed was really hard. Location was ideal, the food was excellent and once again, the staff was amazing. The front desk receptionist moved us the next day from #25 to #45 - and that room was ideal! In fact, I think that is the Grand Suite we actually paid for. One more thing of importance to note - prior to arriving, we had gotten an email asking if we wanted a pickup at the airport, we said yes, they said $45 - no one ever came; both an airport staff and taxi said they don't even have a car! Confirmed with hotel that they don't offer and I even showed them their email - that's sloppy.

We enjoyed everything about our stay. It was a very unique space that looks like a small castle. The room was spacious, the beds comfortable. A picturesque, classy and characterful hotel. We found the lovingly restored building and grounds very charming and relaxing. Having never visited San Jose, we found this property and it caught our eye. It’s up in the hills and the view of the surrounding are was beautiful. It was nice having a balcony to enjoy breakfast and just relax while recalling the previous days adventures and planning the next.

Truly a gem of a hotel. Incomparable views and wonderful staff that went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. A little off the beaten path but very relaxing. Restaurant was delightful and staff was very helpful in arranging tours of the area.

Beautiful small hotel in a wonderful area. The rooms have a lovely balcony with beautiful views of the valley. It's so nice to sleep with the balcony doors completely open and listen to nature. Service was very on point and friendly. Restaurant is very good. Definitely recommend!

This property was absolutely stunning. When we arrived we were so frustrated from the drive but the staff gave us a welcome refresher drink and accompanied us to our room. We ate dinner and breakfast and both meals were hot, very tasty and simply delicious. I wish we would have stay 6 days at this luxury hotel.

Air conditioning was broken, they never did nothing to fix it or offer another option to make my stay more comfortable, it is Costa Rica it was HOT, I could not sleep at night due how hot it was. Food was good one day and next day was awful, and then again good. Never consistent.

This hotel is so beautiful and unique I love it so much. Unfortunately the food was absolutely dreadful and giggle over priced. It was if their chef wasn’t in. Even breakfast had issues with rancid butter. It was so disappointing. The other issue is their online menu prices are significantly less than what the pricing is when you arrive.

Free breakfast had great choices. The welcoming and check in were top notch. The room was very clean and nice. The staff very helpful and friendly.
