Hotel is in a fantastic location across the road from the praca & beach. Reception area is very impressive, the restaurant (for breakfast), was great, fantastic food choice. Classic rooms are tired, Premium rooms are spacious. Pool area, definitely in need of repairs & renovation, tennis courts in need of repairs. Debris/litter outside our balcony was never colllected. Be aware that the hotel does allow dogs, very annoying when you have one in the next room which continually barks. Overall fantastic location but definitely not 5 star standard.

We were greeted at reception by Leonardo, who was exceptional and really took care of us. Melani was also of great assistance during our stay. We however found that some of the pool and breakfast staff members lacked experience. We stayed in a premium room with golf/sea views. The room was luxurious and the views from the small balcony were simply wonderful The super king sized bed was so comfy. Water and tea/coffee were replenished on a twice daily basis Breakfast at the Kamal restaurant overlooking the outdoor pool with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean was just wonderful The selection of food was fresh, varied and of a very high standard. A choice of eggs was also available to order. Breakfast was available from 7-10.30 which was great The choice & standard of food at the pool bar was good. There were plenty of sun beds available at the pool area and a good supply of towels. Parts of the pool decking were unsafe. The pool was great though a little chilly . Definitely not for the faint hearted. The hotel lobby, bar and restaurant have all been renovated and are beautiful but there are parts of the hotel that need updating. There was no entertainment in the hotel bar and There’s also no gym. The hotels location is fantastic being next to the Praca and a stones throw from the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay The little extras could move this hotel up to the next level

We’ve been coming here for around 15 years and it is sad to see the hotel”s decline and listen to others complaining around the pool and say they are not coming back anymore, which sadly I have to agree with. We had a Premium room as always but I think the complaints about the classic rooms are fair. In all these years of coming here we’ve never once been given an upgrade so it’s pretty annoying to hear them being given to others every time we come. We came for our 20th anniversary, we didn’t even get a card! The pool area is massively in decline. Heating from the 1st Sept is virtually non existent as it’s set to 27, this is not enough to claim you have a heated pool, complained during our visit twice but no change in temperature made and therefore rendered the pool unusable for me and many others. The pool was rebuilt about 8 years ago it’s not been maintained. It has lots of black mould and grime. The boards by the pool area are broken and dangerous, many older people walking around lose their balance when one of the boards collapses under foot. This should be a constantly maintained area and it’s not. Maintenance was allocated to painting the yellow stripes on the hotel to blue instead. The pool area is filthy. The same rubbish sat on the floor all week, tables don’t get wiped and glasses lay rolling. Not enough staff apparently! To hear the staff asking if you want to leave a tip for Reception when you check out is dreadful!

The staff are brilliant. The hotel is lovely but could do with a little tidying up around the edges, especially the pool which needs a clean as do the tennis courts. Overall a really good stay. The hotel is also in a great spot with lots of activities within walking distance.

Really liked this hotel, visited out of season (February) so it was quiet, peaceful and with great service and a beautiful setting by the sea/beach. If I was nit picking I’d say that it’s a shame the pool wasn’t warmer and that it was a shame there were no spa facilities on site and included in stay, eg sauna / jacuzzi. Also the tennis courts looked shabby. Most people are here for the golf however which doesn’t disappoint although be aware there is no shuttle bus to the local course (vale do lobo) which is a 5–10 min (walk with golf bag) and the shuttle bus to the other two courses nearby isn’t regular. Most people seem to hire a car so maybe not enough call for it. Finally, out of season the food options locally are limited , an excellent restaurant in the hotel and only one restaurant open within walking distance by the beach.

Service was decent but delivered in a brusque way. I sense the staff are well trained but don’t have any fun and this work only mentally pollutes the culture of what is meant to be a resort ‘holiday/relaxed/fun’ hotel. Rooms decent. Pool area limited but beach overspill helps. Needs a gym.

Heated pool very pleasantly warm - important in April. My room on the top (5th) floor had a beautiful sea and golf course view (though have heard rooms on 1st floor - under the swimming pool - were pretty grim). Great breakfast. Excellent location - 100m from the beach. Only things I had to fault were magnetic room key access - lock mechanism clearly needed replacing (tech came twice but didn’t resolve the issue) - which meant I had to go back down to reception to get a new card almost every time I went back to the room. Also - telephone did notconnect to reception/ guest services. Other than these mi or issues, a wonderful stay. Will return.

Booked the room due to the room rate, however upon arrival realised the hotel was pretty isolated and needed to catch expensive cabs to other locations. Nice hotel, good location clean and friendly. Area around the hotel dead and not much choice for restaurants within walking distance. Rooms clean but show curtain and shower run off taps, roulette whilst showering incase a scolding burst of hot water came your way. Would stay agin but needs updating.

The entrance and communal areas of the hotel are sumptuous and plush in decor , however, although kept spotlessly clean, the room we had was very tired and old fashioned, and in need of upgrading. It was very spacious though, but disappointing in comparison to the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent and we are dinner there on our first night and it was freshly cooked and delicious. All staff were extremely friendly, courteous and very helpful. They are an asset to the establishment.

A nice hotel, typically expensive, but understaffed, particularly around the pool and it’s part of the beach, which meant too much rubbish left by sunbeds (beach and pool) and around the pool itself. The pool was oddly warm (heated!), which offered no relief from the heat. The rooms, however, were very nice and well proportioned. The breakfast offering was good, with a chef offering eggs and omelettes made to order. The massage I had at the spa was not good. This hotel is under recent new ownership, and a nominal refurb, and it feels as though service is being reduced to maximise profits. Overall, a nice stay, though, and so convenient for access to the beach.

Staff were very friendly but not very efficient. They failed to book our golf lesson on the first day, despite confirming by email that they had. Service was very slow in the restaurant and staff failed to inform us that several of the limited meat choices were not available at dinner, until 20 minutes after sitting down. Only one of the two restaurants was open and we were not informed about this is advance. While the rooms were clean, there were regular problems with bad smells from the drains and our key cards kept failing and had to be re-programmed.

Nice hotel, good location clean and friendly. Area around the hotel dead and not much choice for restaurants within walking distance. Rooms clean but show curtain and shower run off taps, roulette whilst showering incase a scolding burst of hot water came your way. Would stay agin but needs updating.

We were lucky and had a recently re-furbished room which was excellent. Big room and bathroom. Rest of hotel needs some modernising but llocation and for golf, beach an ideal location. I would recommend this hotel.

Location is brilliant and they are in the middle of renovations. If you want a good room ask for a refurbished one. It is not a big bustling hotel. Check your bill. We were charged for food for the room next door. The outdoor pool is heated but the deck area is roasting hot to walk on. There are not enough sun beds and the English are up at 6 in the morning putting the towels on, clearing off and coming back after lunch. Not good at all. The hotel has an area on the beach so many had to go there. Would not be my first choice to return to this hotel but overall it was ok. We had a few struggles with problems as the staff would not budge and we found them to be dismissive.

Nice stay at Dona Filipa hotel. Rooms very dated but there was an option to upgrade at a cost. Breakfast very good and staff attentive. Pool area ok, beach lovely.

Heated pool very pleasantly warm - important in April. My room on the top (5th) floor had a beautiful sea and golf course view (though have heard rooms on 1st floor - under the swimming pool - were pretty grim). Great breakfast. Excellent location - 100m from the beach. Only things I had to fault were magnetic room key access - lock mechanism clearly needed replacing (tech came twice but didn’t resolve the issue) - which meant I had to go back down to reception to get a new card almost every time I went back to the room. Also - telephone did notconnect to reception/ guest services. Other than these mi or issues, a wonderful stay. Will return.

The first room option was very dated and we had to change rooms. It was ok but also very dated for the price. The reception staff were not very helpful initially but the manager stepped in to offer an alternative solution. Check in wasn’t ready at 3pm as stated either. The newer areas are more modern and I’m surprised that the whole hotel hasn’t been renovated. Bfast was good and the hotel bar is nice but lacks any ambience. We were greeted at reception by Leonardo, who was exceptional and really took care of us. Melani was also of great assistance during our stay. We however found that some of the pool and breakfast staff members lacked experience. We stayed in a premium room with golf/sea views. The room was luxurious and the views from the small balcony were simply wonderful The super king sized bed was so comfy. Water and tea/coffee were replenished on a twice daily basis Breakfast at the Kamal restaurant overlooking the outdoor pool with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean was just wonderful The selection of food was fresh, varied and of a very high standard. A choice of eggs was also available to order. Breakfast was available from 7-10.30 which was great The choice & standard of food at the pool bar was good. There were plenty of sun beds available at the pool area and a good supply of towels. Parts of the pool decking were unsafe. The pool was great though a little chilly . Definitely not for the faint hearted. The hotel lobby, bar and restaurant have all been renovated and are beautiful but there are parts of the hotel that need updating. There was no entertainment in the hotel bar and There’s also no gym. The hotels location is fantastic being next to the Praca and a stones throw from the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay The little extras could move this hotel up to the next level

I’m fortunate to travel around the world and the staff on reception were so rude and unhelpful, I’ve never experienced anything like it before. My bedroom was very dated and the bathroom was something from dark ages.

My mother and I flew to Faro from Dublin in what could be her last foreign holiday. The hotel honoured our request for a walking shower, which we were very grateful for. The majority of the staff from porters, cleaners, pool attendants, bar staff and restaurant staff were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and professional. They were given gratuities throughout the stay. At check-out the receptionist requested a tip; this was in front of my mother and was extremely embarrassing. We did leave a small tip after the third request for it. Please do not place this review online.

Staff were very friendly but not very efficient. They failed to book our golf lesson on the first day, despite confirming by email that they had. Service was very slow in the restaurant and staff failed to inform us that several of the limited meat choices were not available at dinner, until 20 minutes after sitting down. Only one of the two restaurants was open and we were not informed about this is advance. While the rooms were clean, there were regular problems with bad smells from the drains and our key cards kept failing and had to be re-programmed.

Hotel is in a fantastic location across the road from the praca & beach. Reception area is very impressive, the restaurant (for breakfast), was great, fantastic food choice. Classic rooms are tired, Premium rooms are spacious. Pool area, definitely in need of repairs & renovation, tennis courts in need of repairs. Debris/litter outside our balcony was never colllected. Be aware that the hotel does allow dogs, very annoying when you have one in the next room which continually barks. Overall fantastic location but definitely not 5 star standard.

Very good check in experience. Friendly and efficient. Restaurant bookings hit and miss with no feed back. Newly refurbished rooms very good. Breakfasts could have done with a wider variety of fruit but breakfast staff very good. Own private beach available and very comfortable as was the pool area. Although the food availability could be improved. Nothing to go with coffee!!! And lack of bar staff Overall we had enjoyable stay Thankyou to the manager

A nice hotel, typically expensive, but understaffed, particularly around the pool and it’s part of the beach, which meant too much rubbish left by sunbeds (beach and pool) and around the pool itself. The pool was oddly warm (heated!), which offered no relief from the heat. The rooms, however, were very nice and well proportioned. The breakfast offering was good, with a chef offering eggs and omelettes made to order. The massage I had at the spa was not good. This hotel is under recent new ownership, and a nominal refurb, and it feels as though service is being reduced to maximise profits. Overall, a nice stay, though, and so convenient for access to the beach.

Really liked this hotel, visited out of season (February) so it was quiet, peaceful and with great service and a beautiful setting by the sea/beach. If I was nit picking I’d say that it’s a shame the pool wasn’t warmer and that it was a shame there were no spa facilities on site and included in stay, eg sauna / jacuzzi. Also the tennis courts looked shabby. Most people are here for the golf however which doesn’t disappoint although be aware there is no shuttle bus to the local course (vale do lobo) which is a 5–10 min (walk with golf bag) and the shuttle bus to the other two courses nearby isn’t regular. Most people seem to hire a car so maybe not enough call for it. Finally, out of season the food options locally are limited , an excellent restaurant in the hotel and only one restaurant open within walking distance by the beach.

The first room option was very dated and we had to change rooms. It was ok but also very dated for the price. The reception staff were not very helpful initially but the manager stepped in to offer an alternative solution. Check in wasn’t ready at 3pm as stated either. The newer areas are more modern and I’m surprised that the whole hotel hasn’t been renovated. Bfast was good and the hotel bar is nice but lacks any ambience. The hotel is in a good area but some of the local bars/restaurants are a little obnoxious with bouncers being very aggressive.

Staff were very friendly but not very efficient. They failed to book our golf lesson on the first day, despite confirming by email that they had. Service was very slow in the restaurant and staff failed to inform us that several of the limited meat choices were not available at dinner, until 20 minutes after sitting down. Only one of the two restaurants was open and we were not informed about this is advance. While the rooms were clean, there were regular problems with bad smells from the drains and our key cards kept failing and had to be re-programmed.

I have been coming to this Hotel for over 40 years, and the service this time was as good as any previous visit. The Breakfast was wonderful, and the staff at breakfast were brilliant. You never wanted or waited for anything. Spent the day at the Swimming pool and all have been refurbished and is wonderfull. Again, the staff was first class, and the lunch we had was superb. I met Melani Viegas, the assistant Manager, who, like her Boss spend so much time visiting the area both morning and afternoon and takes pride in speaking with the guests. Come on if you are coming to Portugal, you have tried the rest, but book the best. 7 star, not 5

Lovely hotel and staff, we have stayed several times. Some rooms are older in style than others, but perfectly fine. All the staff are extremely friendly, The breakfast is very good. Great location 100m from the beach area which has several restaurants.

We returned to Dona Filipa for the second year in a row after a fantastic stay last year, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the beautiful beach, great restaurants, and some of the Algarve’s best golf courses. The dedicated beach area with sun loungers and bar service is a real highlight. We stayed in the older, non-refurbished connecting rooms, which were spacious, comfortable, and worked perfectly for our family of four. The newly refurbished rooms also look fantastic. The breakfast was excellent, and the restaurant and pool bar served high-quality food—we enjoyed dinner there several evenings. The pool and other facilities were great, but what really made our stay special was the warm and friendly staff. A special thank you to Renato and the restaurant/pool bar team, who went above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome. We look forward to returning again!
