Chateau Merrimack Resort & Spa

We came there to relax in spa and pool after 4 hours ride from NY they told us that spa and pool are closed, there wasn’t any info either on Expedia or their site with info that they close only attraction in that resort

I went here for a weekend alone to get some rest & relaxation. The room I had was huge & unique- not like your normal hotel rooms. I had an issue w/ my first room, as the temp. in the room was a HOT 87degrees,& the air control in the room didnt work. The lady at the front desk did a great job & was able to assist me to new room right away, was perfect. Overall the bed wasn't the most comfortable, but I am picky on that.The 4 pillows on my king were all very hard & large- as a belly sleeper this did not work for me. Walmart was only 5 minutes away, so a $4 pillow fixed that problem for me! The pool-jacuzzi was great, clean & warm. It was almost always empty when I went. It's in a separate building, about a minute walk across the parking lot, not far & easy to get to. The "spa" section was a bit confusing, as to access the sauna/steam room you apparently needed to actually book a spa appointment (facial/massage etc). But since it was empty most of the time, I was still able to use those & no one working there said anything. I was disappointed w/the food selection. The breakfast is just bagels, cereal & some bread items...really nothing. There wasn't even normal cream cheese, but a flavored one only. I opted for a diner the next day, it was about a mile away. There is also nothing for lunch there, so plan on driving or ordering out. The steakhouse was ok, good steaktips but other items ehh. I would go there again for a weekend away to relax, but dont expect super Luxury.

This hotel is much prettier in person when you walk in the door it hits you with this very clean smell. I would call it a combination of white tea and crisp linens. The decor is very pretty. The restaurant is very classy, and the food was phenomenal. The drink menu was great And the cocktails were fantastic. I got the filet mignon which was pretty good. Caesar salad was excellent. I would give my experience a nine out of 10 reason being the free continental breakfast was quite underwhelming for such a beautiful facility. I feel like they could’ve done a little bit better for breakfast… Although it was free, I would’ve gladly paid money to have something better. The muffins and pastries were the size of a very large strawberry to give you a size reference of how tiny it was the pool and Jacuzzi you have to walk to so if you’re going to go in the winter months, I would suggest You keep that in mind that it is outdoor and you have to walk out the parking lot to it. I didn’t like the fact that the shower in the pool area is only available for spa paying guests. I feel like if you’re going to be able to use the pool you should be able to shower. The front staff girl was also working the restaurant. She was friendly. In both roles. The housekeeping manager was in the hallway, talking unpolitely about other employees and too other employees quite loudly outside my door, which I thought to be very unprofessional.soaking tub amazing!!! Room was clean , will stay again

Our visit was not planned. Got a good rate and wow was this place special. The room was huge with a separate porch. Had a sitting area, full length mirror, wonderful shower/tub. We walked the grounds to the indoor pool. Warm wonderful clean pool and hot tub in this separate building. Breakfast in the library was a nice continental style with an added egg quiche like dish. All staff good too

The website doesn't tell you that they have their restaurant and bar area closed. You can only order room service. The hot tub is also out of order. The grounds are beautiful but not well maintained. The continental breakfast was super disappointing. It's a beautiful hotel but it seems like a new owner took it over and isn't giving it to her level of care it needs. It's a shame because it has so much potential.

When we go to the property and got to our room we found a pill on the floor. My husband went and told the deont desk ans ahe sais she'd tell her manager. When he go back to the room we looked around more as we had children with us ans found about 15 more pills under the night stand. He again went down to twll the front desk and they told us they cant move us bur brought up a vacuum. Our first night we went to the pool and there was no towels there and when told to the staff nothing was done about it so we had to walk socking wet back to the hotel.The pool is about a 2 minute walk outside from the hotel.The first morning the breakfast was english muffins and cheap pastries. The second morning they didn't not even put breakfast out (we checked twice) and there was no one at the front desk to even ask about it.The hotel it's self is beautiful. The rooms are larger and spacious. But the service was not there.

The pool was outside the hotel, we had to walk 5 min outside to gwt to it. Breakfast options in the mornings very limited Toast, 1 kind of pastry cereals and mini bagels I would have expected a bit more for the amount we paid The gym, OMG a small room about 8x6 with 1 excercise machine treadmill and some weights. The room was great but they only cleaned the room once for our 3 nights stay

Very disappointed. Pool area was run down and dirty. Hot tub wasn’t working and we were told mainteance didn’t work weekends so there was nothing they could do. Hotel restaurant didn’t open the day we were there but nobody told us, ended up having to scramble to find somewhere to have dinner. Very disappointing since we had planned on eating at the hotel. Front desk staff was unapologetic. Room was clean and spacious.

The hot tub wasn’t so hot

Not quite sure how this has an 8.0 rating here on hotels.com. This place is old dark and the staff is cold on the verge of unfriendly upon arrival. They did not accept American Express, which is how I booked my trip originally the room is filled with mismatched lamps and gross stained built-in couches. There were stains even on the ceiling and the whole place appeared to be cobbled together. Of the three hotels on this trip that we stayed at it was by far the worst also as a note, the pool is located in a separate building from the rooms, which is very inconvenient with children, but given the way the rest of the hotel was, I don’t think we would’ve gone in the pool anyways.

Having never been in the area before, Chateau Merrimack was an ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL stay! From ambiance to decor, gorgeous! Friendly staff and clean/ fresh rooms! I could swear we were the first people to use the room!

the water from the tub immediately ran yellow and really freaked me out. i got this hotel specifically for the whirlpool tub and was very disappointed and grossed out. the water did eventually run clear, but i was still disgusted by the thought of bathing in the residue. i went to the front desk to try and see if i could receive a refund or even just have someone clean my tub. i was told no refunds and that house keeping leaves at 4, so there is no one to clean my tub. i was very upset. i was only staying the one night, so i didn’t have time to wait for the next day to take a bath in the tub i paid an excessive amount for. I had to take matters into my own hands, find the nearest store and buy bleach and cleaning supplies, and clean the tub myself. i feel like my request was not difficult, to ask for the tub to be cleaned, but i was told it could not be met. the breakfast was a joke. with what appeared to be only decades old cherios. i am frustrated with this app and the experience it gave me. i feel like the resort was falsely advertised. i did not see a spa. your description claimed there would be a resturant/bar. i saw where it was supposed to be but the entire place was literally vacant. there was a total of 2 workers in the entire resort when i arrived, and they both happened to be very unhelpful and inconsiderate. this app made it seem very nice, and the hotel ended up ruining my “relaxing” anniversary

The main entrance and check in area smelled horrible, like someone had just gotten sick and they didn't clean it properly. We only booked our stay to use their pool and spa amenities, and asked when the pool closed at check in. We were told 9pm. We get to our room, change to our swimwear, and walk to the pool only to be locked out. We had to call and someone came quickly to let us in. Upon entering the indoor pool, we put our stuff down on a couch and took our shoes off, only to step on a moldy soaking wet carpet in the "patio area" after. The pool and hot tub were both green and slimy. We left immediately. Showering, was also disgusting. There is mold all over the walls. Bugs and spider webs in the corners of tub. Absolutely horrified and couldnt have left quick enough A little disappointed that we spent our only day off of the week here, hoping to enjoy a morning by the pool. We were very wrong

This property was beautiful, full of character and charm! The woodwork is lovely. Quiet resort full of beauty. Only things that needed worked on here were the moisture issue in the room with humidity level too high on the ac and in the bathroom with no fan. Cute little yellow sofa in room is dirty on arms. The rooms are very large though and just full of so much charm! Lighting needs improved as well. We didn’t eat at the restaurant on site but it looked very nice. Highly recommend this property though.

The hotel is beautiful. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Pool and hot tip were awesome. Spa was nice but expensive. Hotel facility was old, water from faucets was brown, breakfast was tiny.

The room and restaurant were great, just as depicted. The pool is detached from the building which wasn’t a big deal but was wasn’t clear in the hotel listing. The pool area could use a deep cleaning and the pool and hot tub were quite chilly. The hot tub also had scum on the side which was pretty gross.

Very misleading website. Touted a completely renovated interior and exterior. Parts we're refurbished, but when you walked in there was a musty smell and clear it needed work. We arrived early at 2 pm ahead of 4pm check in, we were told check in is at 4 (which is fine). However no offer to hold our bags. They said the pool was open, but was very dirty from pollen (it was an enclosed pool). Others in our group arrived 345 and were told to wait until 4 for check in. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Overall, not a luxury stay. Misleading website. Not worth the money.

The Capri room was absolutely gorgeous and very spacious. It was a wonderful stay.

This is clearly a property in the middle of transition and not yet ready to host guests at their marketed price point. Landscaping beds are overgrown and brick parking at the lobby is grass filled. The restaurant is closed. No evening food is available at the property. The room looks similar to the pictures but has dust and dirt in corners indicating long time of no use and/or need of deep cleaning. We did not check out the pool as we left the property for food. The “gym” consists of an out of date treadmill and dumbbells. Free WiFi is unsecured and nonfunctional.

I had high hopes for this place. It was billed as "true luxury on the Merrimack" and "completely renovated inside and out." If that's true, I'd hate to see the before photos. It looked like a haunted house and an art deco hotel from the 50s had a baby, and not a cute one. The bed was uncomfortable. There was no overhead lighting and the room was very dark. Our TV set kept turning itself on during the night and waking us up. Not their fault, but whoever was staying in the room above walked the floors all night and everything rattled and shook. When I mentioned all of this to the staff, I got crickets. No attempt to apologize or make it better. The restaurant food was quite average, however the wait staff was very attentive (the one bright spot). Be careful, fellow travelers.

Just my hubby and me for a quick overnight stay since we have just moved and he had a doctors appointment. We had stayed there several years ago when it was under another name. We thought we’d try it. Seems like the decor was out of the 50’s. And well worn.

Only stayed one night on our way through. I tried calling to ask a question and no one answered the phone. Once we arrived the attendant took a while to come to the desk. The guests in the room above us were loud and obnoxious and making noise all night until about 3am. The decor is dated, bathroom could use a regrout around the tub. Personally would not stay here again.

Beautiful hotel. The rooms are very spacious. Bed soft and comfortable. Extra large tub in the bathroom. Nice designs throughout the hotel. Enjoyed the pool with the hot tub. It is a short walk outside of the hotel. Had dinner at the restaurant. They were out of a few items on the menu. The food was tasty. Selection of pastries for breakfast. No warm options. Definitely an upper scale hotel for the area. Will be back.

Very nice hotel and property. Upscale amenities and overall nice touches. Staff was helpful and engaging! Only challenging situation was trying to access live TV as to watch a channel had to download an app. Was very confusing!

That’s almost the price of our room for the night… no one else was at the hotel and the room was available. I said we would just check in at 4pm and the associate just left me at the check in desk and went to the back room. It would have been nice if she offered to hold our luggage or recommended the attached restaurant… did not feel hospitable IMO. The pool and spa were not connected to the hotel, but were nice. Breakfast was a huge disappointment, but lovely locally owned places nearby - recommend Mami Luz for brunch!

I’ve waited an over a week to calm down and write this a fairly as possible. I started writing the review and exceeded Expedia’s word count. Here instead is the list. Multiple attempts to contact spa with no response starting 10 days prior to the trip. Multiple calls to front desk on arrival day. No answer. Arrived at 4ish and room was not clean and ready. Was finally able to make it to the room a little after 5. Night 1: Mentioned room was strangely cold and there was a draft. Told to turn up the thermostat. Still cold. Had to use towels to block draft from windows. 9 pm requested 2 blankets and was told they only had one spare blanket for entire hotel. After they looked again found another blanket. Next morning: website indicated breakfast ended at 10 but actually ended at 9. We were downstairs at 8 and it was sad. I have seen fresher better breakfasts at a holiday in or HoJo. The hot water for tea had mold in it. Staff responded with “oh”. Still cold. Maintenance called. We had no heat in our room. Waited an hour to hear from front desk. Went down to ask about it and was told to wait another hour for room. Moved rooms. Clean linens, clean bathroom, coffee cup rings on multiple surfaces. Angry and tired. I cleaned them. Day 4 checkout morning. Had NOT checked out yet at 930. Room keys deactivated. Had to be let into room. At check out asked for a call from manager. No call as of a week plus later. Stay away! Run!

From check in it was stressful. Supposed to be a relaxing weekend but the front desk staff ended up triggering my disability because of a service animal due to the staff not being educated about the ADA and it was not enjoyable OR RELAXING. Place is run down. Restaurant/bar food and drinks were good. They were about the only positive thing about the place. Didn’t even get to make an appointment with the Spa because of the trigger so I cannot rate that.

Overall, our stay was excellent. The staff was pleasant and welcoming, but I would like to give a particular shout-out to Fabian (Pardon the possible misspelling) in the bar. His kindness and generosity was appreciated by all of us. If there was one negative, I would say that perhaps the breakfast could use an upgrade…

Terrible check in 45 minutes charged me credit card twice without my permission

I ended up choosing not to stay there. There were maybe 8 cars in the parking lot. I arrived at 3pm, was told my room was ready but that I would be charged $50 to check in any earlier than 4pm. There was no music playing in the lobby, no one walking about the property....it was a very bizarre atmosphere.

This place is absolutely stunning, and I was very happy with my stay! The staff and service were exceptional. Just be aware that you'll need to pay a $150 incidental fee upon arrival, which will be refunded to you within 7–10 business days.

This was a wonderful experience all around. Staff was amazing, super polite and welcoming. The pool and Jacuzzi were my place to be. Quite and relaxing Slept like a baby, such a comfy bed. Food was also magnificent, and impeccable service from the barmaid made this a 5 star stay for me. I will return

Chateau Merrimack seems like a once-grand hotel that has fallen on hard times, as if in a war zone. Sometimes things work, and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes the breakfast is laid out, and sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes there are towels, and sometimes the whole place is out of them. The grounds are beautiful, the pool structure is peaceful, and the Chateau is out in the country at the same time it is a peaceful, 10-minute drive to downtown Lowell. It just seemed like it was the first day for the whole staff after tge experienced staff disappeared. Friends said that Chateau Merrimack’s previous incarnation, Stonehedge, was much more expansive with a better restaurant and far fewer cacancies. As it was, we were there in the middle of the summer and, while we enjoyed the quiet of few guests, we also wondered how the staff might accommodate a wedding or convention. Our room was beautiful and the hotel itself was peaceful, but the staff and service were uneven, even slipshod, and we were glad that we weren’t depending on the hotel for internet or food.

A little out of the way but a pleasant location, large rooms with lavish bathrooms. Property is a bit dated but clean. Pool/spa complex is needing attention and separate within the grounds. Restaurants on site but pricey, nearest otherwise is a couple of miles away. A golf course on one side & fields on the other. Feels quite secluded, except for some highway traffic. Included breakfast was adequate, mostly pastries,cereals,fruits. Overall stay was good.

Nothing to do around the area the restaurant open at 4:30 and closes at 9. Unable to get snacks or drinks. Not a place for kids.

The place is absolutely beautiful, the pictures on website don’t do justice to this place, it looks like a castle well kept in a breathtaking surrounding. The place is super clean and the staff is friendly. The only weak point is the breakfast, either improve it or remove it, a couple of bagels and muffins is not breakfast. Despite that, I will definitely come back!

It was beautiful - the rooms were well done! The hotel did not inform us upon booking that the restaurant/bar would be closed. This is one of the reasons we chose this location - a getaway and not having to drive anywhere for a drink and dinner. We were quite upset that this was not available.

The staff were amazing, the in house restaurant food was out of this world. Chef Mike made the night!
