This is a pub/hotel just on the outskirts of the city centre, just a five minute walk to the Arndale Centre, I really do mean a 5 min walk as I have a false knee, breakfast is excellent and for £2 you can go large, there is a menu for evening which is very nice, and being a pub plenty to drink at proper prices, rooms are clean and well serviced and have all you need, I didn’t need to pack an iron, there is no air con but a big fan which was ample, shower and amenities excellent, I’d use this place again if it was just for the breakfast.

A great find for a trip to the centre of Manchester. We took a 6 minute walk and we were at an entrance to the A.O,N Arena, about the same distance to the side entrance to the Arndale shopping centre. You are above a pub, however, we were on the 2nd floor and didn’t hear any noise. Good breakfast the next day, will return !

Our room was lovely and the hotel was very conveniently located. The staff was absolutely wonderful!! The breakfasts were amazing, the pub was one of our favorites in Manchester.

Me my Brother and Best Friend stayed here on the 09/06/23 was really impressed got 20% off at the bar for staying at the hotel rooms where definitely value for money very clean and tvs with everything YouTube Netflix etc toilets where clean in the room and good friendly staff would definitely re book in the future 10min walk in to the city centre

The staff were super friendly and happy to help , check in was super fast we got to are room and unfortunately the cleaners hadn't emptyed the bin from previous guests it was full and almost overflowing, we decided to have a later check out the day after , even with a do not disturb on the door handle the cleaners came into are room lucky we was fully clothed laying on the bed you are on a busy main road so please be mindful when booking if your a light sleeper make sure you close your windows, room is spacious bed was comfortable, your own heating thermostat for your room , at the bar guests get 15% off food and drink, in all I would stay at this hotel again easy to get to

Stayed the night before we flew for our holiday, great service when for a drink In the evening friendly bar staff and enjoyable atmosphere, had the breakfast in the morning which was lovely and arrived quickly, we will definitely be returning!

Lovely room. Nice bar. Unfortunately though at breakfast the chef was screaming and swearing very loudly for all diners to hear. Apart from that the staff were very nice and accommodating throughout our stay. Breakfast was lovely despite the kitchen drama. Very handy location for the arena/ different bars/restaurants and shopping.

Nice staff and great location but room was extremely noisy as right next to a huge generator. Staff kindly moved me to another room which was much smaller but quieter. Quite a strong drain smell in bathroom but room was nice enough. I wouldn't stay again but for the price it was ok

It was spotlessly clean upon arrival, however our room didn’t have much of a clean during our stay. There were marks on the bathroom sink that were there for the full three days as well as some bits on the carpet in the bedroom that didn’t get hoovered. When we pulled back the quilt to get in bed, the bottom sheet was rumpled and had bits on it. However, these were very minor observations and we would definitely return. There were fresh towels and toiletries daily which was not really necessary, most hotels now only replace towels if you indicate that you require so by placing the used ones on the floor in the shower. The location was excellent for the centre of Manchester and within walking distance of most of the sights. The breakfast was plentiful and excellent each morning.

Must have been cool at one time, now just old and tired looking. Filthy stairwell, tiny room, light and fan in bathroom wouldn’t turn off, shower temperature set to parboil. Just a bit rubbish, all in all.

Room and ensuite looked good, was spotless and had everything we needed. Comfy bed. Breakfast really tasty. Staff friendly. Really close to AO arena and shops. Will definitely return.

The rooms are tiny, and ours had dust coating everything. There was a nasty smell coming out of the bathroom, we had to keep the fan running the entire time we were in the room. One of the staff was very friendly at breakfast, but blasted the volume of the morning TV shows. Everyone else could barely be bothered to help us. It was annoying to have to go down and up 2 flights of steep stairs to get a hair dryer, there should be one in every room. All the communications (signs and instructions) to guests were very unwelcoming - mostly about extra charges (of which there were many possibilities) rather than amenities (which were few). To be charged a 3 GBP deposit for a second key card on a double occupancy room is really stingy. The doors are heavy and tightly sprung, so guests coming in late at night can't help but announce their arrival with banging that can be heard throughout the floor. The included breakfast was ok. but again all about the extra charges and rules.

Lovely hidden gem, really central location, good size, modern rooms with very comfy beds. The free breakfast is amazing, so many options freshly made with juices, hot drinks and cereals also available. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in Manchester

Rooms are newly refurbished were clean and comfortable. Heating appeared to be on a timer therefore until the radiators came on due to the weather room was cold. Nobody replenished the room after first night stay had to ask for items by the bar and at first was advised I would not be served as I was standing in the wrong place. When I then explained I was staying upstairs I was served with items required once pub guest completed their order. Breakfast was very poor, only the choice of a full English, a breakfast muffin or pancakes from the hot food. There were basic cereals available. In relation to the full English all items were overcooked, bacon was hard, mushrooms were annihilated not sure what had happened to the hash brown and it was all either cold or lukewarm. Pancakes were just 3 small pancakes with a scattering of blue berries and a strawberry cut up with a small sauce size dish of yoghurt. Considering the second night cost almost 3 times the cost of the first night this was very disappointing, so much so that we went out for breakfast on Saturday morning. The pub plays music until very late gone midnight considering the rooms are above there is no way of getting away from the noise of the music or pub guests congregating outside the front doors.

Good property. Had everything except a hairdryer in the room. Two bottles of water, coffee machine, kettle and iron provided. Shower was lovely. Room got hot but there was a fan in the room. Lovely room. Nice bar. Unfortunately though at breakfast the chef was screaming and swearing very loudly for all diners to hear. Apart from that the staff were very nice and accommodating throughout our stay. Breakfast was lovely despite the kitchen drama. Very handy location for the arena/ different bars/restaurants and shopping.

This is a pub/hotel just on the outskirts of the city centre, just a five minute walk to the Arndale Centre, I really do mean a 5 min walk as I have a false knee, breakfast is excellent and for £2 you can go large, there is a menu for evening which is very nice, and being a pub plenty to drink at proper prices, rooms are clean and well serviced and have all you need, I didn’t need to pack an iron, there is no air con but a big fan which was ample, shower and amenities excellent, I’d use this place again if it was just for the breakfast.

Rooms are newly refurbished were clean and comfortable. Heating appeared to be on a timer therefore until the radiators came on due to the weather room was cold. Nobody replenished the room after first night stay had to ask for items by the bar and at first was advised I would not be served as I was standing in the wrong place. When I then explained I was staying upstairs I was served with items required once pub guest completed their order. Breakfast was very poor, only the choice of a full English, a breakfast muffin or pancakes from the hot food. There were basic cereals available. In relation to the full English all items were overcooked, bacon was hard, mushrooms were annihilated not sure what had happened to the hash brown and it was all either cold or lukewarm. Pancakes were just 3 small pancakes with a scattering of blue berries and a strawberry cut up with a small sauce size dish of yoghurt. Considering the second night cost almost 3 times the cost of the first night this was very disappointing, so much so that we went out for breakfast on Saturday morning. The pub plays music until very late gone midnight considering the rooms are above there is no way of getting away from the noise of the music or pub guests congregating outside the front doors.

I stayed here with my daughter as we were going to see Billie Eilish. Although the hotel is a little way out from the coop live arena, public transport links are good. On arrival we had a lovely warm greating, our room was spacious and clean with a lovely modern ensuite. Breakfast had a good selection of hot food or cereals. We did have lunch at the bar of 3 small plates between us which was quick to arrive, piping hot and delicious. I would happily stay again.

It was our first time in Manchester. Black Lion is super well located and made it easy to get to various sites. The staff were incredible and very friendly (to Canadian standards!). We will absolutely return if our travels bring us back. Cheers!

Staff were very friendly and helpful from arrival to check out. The hotel has a lovely vibe and the bar is well stocked and has some great offers. There has been a lot of thought gone into the decor and layout of rooms and the murals and room names were a timely reminder of the city’s history. There were a few niggles, the clock in the room wasn’t working, there was dust and cobwebs around the bed, the WiFi on the TV wasn’t great and the pillows weren’t at all comfortable. Sleep was distributed by noise but was to be expected in a city centre hotel. Overall the hotel was great value for money with breakfast included and perfectly placed for shopping and arena, we would come back again.
