Best kept secret in Shipshewanna, Motel built by the Amish so the rooms are well built and clean. The breakfast was delicious, but served in a small area. Highly recommend this motel.

I had stayed here a couple years ago and although there was a new motel that was cheaper, I decided to go to Der Ruhe Blatz again because of my first experience. It was deep winter with snow every night and the lot was cleared in a timely manner. When my lock froze in the sub zero F temps the staff was very responsive getting me back into my room. Breakfast was hot and ready. Highly recommend this motel. If you travel with pets, note that there is a nightly fee that is comparable to many motels. The only 4 star rating above was because my sink drained slowly.

This is the 2nd time I've stayed, the breakfast was better with more choices than before, however the pet fees doubled and they didn't make me aware until check in. Thankfully i was able to pay it as all the other pet friendly places would have been booked. Rooms are decent, breakfast good, enough grass for the pets to play and potty also a very clean area.

Dont believe the $20 a night for a pet. We stayed 2 nights and got charged $100.. instead of the $40. The owner didnt give my husband an explanation. I looked on the website and on our checkout paper it still showed $20 a night and it didnt show a weight limit or anything. We wont stay here again. We chose this hotel because of location and the fact we could have our dog at an affordable rate so we thought.

Excellent location, on the main road in Shipshewana, less than a mile from the Shipshewana Flea Market. Lower price than most Shipshewana hotels but no extra amenities (no pool, hot tub, weight room, or business/computer room). They do have free Wi-Fi. Service was OK but the hotel managers were rather grumpy. [The breakfast bar was not being maintained until I finally found the desk manager and got him to fix it, which he did.]

Nice, for this type of hotel - all room open directly from the parking lot. Room is small, but adequate. The main light is on a timer which is annoying, I don’t want it going off automatically. Breakfast area is small and they suggest that if it is full taking it outside - not very appealing.

Everything was fine except for the awful smell. The room (and the reception) had a super strong smell of moth balls or varnish, I don't know what. I would suggest finding another place solely on that reason. It was awful.

Our room was not very clean, dead bugs on the floor and squished bugs different places in the room. The toilet was not flushing well and over flowed. We had to clean most of it up, they never cleaned the shower that we had put the nasty towels from us soaking up the water. Manager was very rude and had an attitude the every time he was seen. Breakfast is only until 9:00, and he took stuff away right at 9:00 even if someone had just got in there to eat. Not enough food was offered since the guest in campers were offered breakfast too, not just the motel guest.

Parking is right next to your room. Shortest / lowest toilet I have ever seen. Room was smaller than it appeared online. Microwave was old and didn't function properly. When asked where is a good place to eat they suggested Eat of Chicago pizza....

Great location very clean room. Great hot water and great breakfast. Not extremely soundproof and we could hear the TV in the next room throughout the entire night. Although very comfortable we were not able to sleep well due to the television next door. Very nice amenities in town but all are closed on Sunday so the recommendation is to get the early Saturday to enjoy the museums and shops .

Well, first of all if you were going here thinking you were getting an Amish run property that would be a no. On the positive side I did get an early check-in. Definitely a language barrier was having trouble with my card and decided to just pick up a phone while we were having issues to make a personal phone call and continued to talk on the phone through my transaction and just waved me out on the general area where my room would be Obviously for the area you would expect a little bit better customer service Room leaves a lot to be desired. That is basically a motel six all day long only with higher prices. Breakfast is included, but it is not an Amish breakfast again like you would assume. It is a nice area next to the RV park and close to the flea market. Go ahead and spend the money and stay at blue gate or one of the other beautiful properties close by. It is definitely worth the extra expense.

and enjoyed it, the only problem this time was difficulty getting back in our room after hours after a concert and were unable to reach anyone to help from the motel phone numbers provided. After about 45 minutes we finally were able to get the door open and get in our room. Morning staff member kindly helped us get our car started after a dead battery.

The room was just OK. Not enough to warrant the price tag. The room is a $60 room and they charged $120. While checking in the gentleman acted like he couldnt be bothered to answer any questions. Not very social or helpful. While checking out the young lady was nicer.

The best part of our stay was the room. Very clean and comfortable. The worst part was the breakfast. Breakfast wasn’t good. Gravy was watered down so much it didn’t even look like it had milk in it. The eggs were mixed with pieces of sausage and canned corn and was extremely watery. Very little food. The coffee machine was broke.

I enjoyed everything about this motel in Shipshewana, Indiana. Parking right at the door, bathroom sink outside of shower and stool. Breakfast was great: sausage, eggs, cereal, biscuits and gravy, yogurt. Waffles, toast, muffins, bagels. Evelyn was a wonderful host and took care of our needs.

I was very pleased with my stay here. For the price point, it was a good value. The breakfast included sausage gravy and biscuits, scrambled eggs, waffles, and the usual assortment of breads, cereals, etc. I would stay here again in a heartbeat mostly because of the value.

All are excellent, except due to the weather the hotel decided not to serve breakfast even though I asked when I arrived and the sign at the door both said to serve breakfast at 7 am. Standing outside at -8 F degree with windchill knocking at the door with no answer finally called from my car, the person on the phone responded, too cold, no breakfast. It's a pretty upsetting experience, should at least put a sign out to let people know, the breakfast was canceled due to cold weather. Instead of letting guests stand outside at 7 am knocking at the door.

Most aspects of our two-night stay were fine. Breakfast the first morning was fine. The second morning we went to the lobby for breakfast at 7:17, but the door was locked and no one responded when we rang the bell. We loaded our car and went back to the lobby at 7:37. Door was still locked; no response to the bell. A note on the door explaining the locked door would have been greatly appreciated!
