Inexpensive hostel stay for two nights ~$145. It’s located within short ~5min waking distance to some of the buildings of Brown university. It’s next to Ben and Jerry’s ice cream store on the upper level. The entrance is somewhat obscured and easily missed and there is no posted sign; you really had to follow the email instructions word by word, otherwise, you won’t be able to find it or get in. And I had seen it happened. It’s very very important to call (401) 863-2378 ) for check in instructions 1-2 days before arrival by providing your personal information and uploading your ID. It’s centrally located on a busy Main Street with lots of dinning options. It’s about ~20min Uber drive from the Rhode Island airport. For the price you pay, the quality of the place is acceptable with the bare minimum: clean bedrooms, shared restrooms, and kitchen; except that you need showering shampoos and bath soup. One bath towel is provided. There is even a sitting area with skylights. We visited at the end of August with superb weather so it would be interesting to see whether the AC unit functionality during hot or cold months. If you are sensitive to loud street noise, do not stay here as some of street facing rooms have poor sound proof and the hole on the window barrier did not help with the situation: loud crowds, car honking, blasting music last well past midnight on the weekends.

You'll receive an email prior to "check in" that gives you the door code and your room code and then you are on your own. One thing to be aware of is that the bathrooms are less secure and private than a typical hostel situation. There's no lockable stall for the showers, so anyone could pop in you. As well, the shower doors were clear glass and only one shower had a curtain to hide you from view while you were showering. I'm very accustomed to shared bathrooms in hostels and feel comfortable in them, but this lacked the security and privacy of a typical hostel bathroom. As well, since there's no on site staff, I don't know what you would do if something creepy/weird did happen? You can't beat the price, but I think there are some significant safety concerns around the shared bathrooms

The common bathroom and showers didn’t have toilet paper. The shower curtain were broken and even if it wasn’t broken. It still didn’t cover the whole shower

Pros: Closest lodging to Brown, lots of restaurants, very affordable, clean, huge common bathroom Cons: rooms are run down, heating system is out of control (very hot and very cold), thin walls, no real lounge, a broken window in a room (they switched me to a different room) If they invested $50k in new windows, HVAC and lighting, it would be a great place.

I was here for a Saturday night, and there was lots of loud activity outside, including racing cars, until about 1:00.After that it was quiet. Location is very convenient for exploring Brown’s campus, and there are many restaurants nearby. It’s challenging to find the place, since address numbers are scarce. It is hard to find a cheap place to stay in the heart of Providence; so if you are looking for that, this is the place to stay! I think my biggest issues with it was security (it does have a code to get into the building and your room, but other than the security cameras, there is no front desk etc) and noise. The walls are very thin so you can hear the people in the rooms next to you, the people in the hallway and the people on the street. Other than Saturday night where I heard lots of people going out on the street, it was not much of an issue. The hostel itself was decently clean (except for the kitchen on occasion) and for the most part I had the shared bathroom to myself (cold and hot water available for showering but I would say there was no soap for the entirety of my stay there :/)

Kitchen- food left in microwave, and on table. Little mouse ran away when light burned on. I'm looking for another place.

For the price of staying here, I was willing to put up with a broken handle to my room door, dirty comforter, a wobbly and broken refrigerator. Not to mention the excessive banging and noise; the shower curtains not big enough to shower privately , the broken lights in the bathroom, food left overnight in the kitchen toaster oven. However, finding a dead mouse in the shower soap holder was the limit. I cut my stay short and sis not shower. This place requires a new facilities manager ASAP!

There is no air or fan and the windows are broken - if you can get it open you have to prop it with something so that it stays open. The common bathroom was not clean and several times it ran out of toilet paper which you cannot flush but have to throw in a bin! The streets are noisy all night long with people cruising with loud music. There were homeless individuals sleeping on the doorstep and even in the stairwell on a rainy day. I didn’t feel very safe even though I was two blocks from Brown University.

The first room I checked into was riddled was bed bugs… luckily, whoever I emailed allowed me to check into a different room that night. No bed bugs in that room but there was a strong odor of mold and mildew. Woke up the next morning with a shallow cough. I opted to not stay my second night because this place was so gnarly in the worst possible way.

The two sofas were very old and not taken care off (full of stains), we didn't even think about sitting on them. The bed was old and also damaged, the sheet and towels looked clean but since the rest of the room didn't it was very concerning. I hope you get ride of the old/stain furniture. There is cheap furniture in Ikea that you can use instead.

Sheets hadn’t been changed since the previous guest, covered in hair and blood from bugs which you could see crawling on the bed Smoke detector was also smashed which is a huge fire hazard and the couch and floor were filthy

The room is spacious, but its location is terrible. It’s on Thayer Street, where crowds of young people party loudly, screaming and yelling late into the night. The noise lasted till early mornings, making it impossible to sleep.

Don’t sleep here on a Saturday. The noise goes on until 1am right outside your window. Horrible sleep

It's very noisy at night, esp on the weekend, with lots of motorcycles and cars revving their engines. Goes on past midnight. You will have trouble sleeping if you're light sleeper or don't fall asleep easily. The bathrooms don't have toilet paper in each stall! It's a giant roll on outside of the stall. Our roll was completely depleted. So you're on your own! The walls are paper thin; you will hear your neighbor very easily if he turns TV on loud, which ours did. The Pros: The location is very central to Brown. You won't find anything cheaper in the area. Lots of eateries and businesses within a block. The managers are nice enough on the phone and via email.

I gave it a lower rating because we reserved a room with two twin beds for two well built boys that would typically sleep well in two full beds, and instead we got one queen bed. Messed up our reservation. Room wasn't cleaned, then sent us to an occupied room walking in on them. Finally moved us to a completely different area 15 minutes away. Not what we wanted from a place just to crash for the one night... Got very late.

I booked this place on Thayer Street in Providence RI because I used to live on the street when I was in college and was coming back for a 50th reunion. I must admit that I did not realize this was not a hotel but a room with shared bathroom facilities - my fault for not reading the fine print. But a room for $200+ is not a bargain. I ended up NOT staying here at all because I took a dorm room on the campus. I asked for a refund but they were having none of it because it was less than 5 days before occupancy. A regular hotel would have canceled for me but, as I have made clear, this is NOT a hotel. Communications are TERRIBLE. Hotel.com provides limited info and the contact # for the property manager often just goes to voicemail. The day of arrival, they text you a door code for the property which is on the 2nd floor of the building in the photo (NOT the entire property) above a Ben & Jerry's, Then they text you a second door code for the room itself. I dealt with someone named Sebastian who needs customer service training in the worst way. My advice: look elsewhere and only book here as a last resort.

Very uncomfortable situation. Arrived at facility to find front door open(not secured). When we got to our room, we found the door open and the previous occupant still in room. Room was unkept. Text facility since there is no reception available, was told to wait for individual to leave and they would clean the room. This was not acceptable. The facility put us in a very awkward position and did not feel safe. We left the facility, requested a refund which they only agreed to refund 1 of 5 days. FYI, we meet a few of the persons who placed good reviews on Expedia in the facility. Appear to be long term residents and or employees of place.

The stay wasn't bad, I booked a room for 2 nights and wasn't bother by anyone. The street around the hostile has a lot of food and some shopping options too. Its really close to the bus stop so you can ask to be taken to the mall as well. However, the ladies room didn't have handsoap the whole time I was there which was not great and I'd recommend bringing shower slippers.
