Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Fabulous room. Lovely hotel inside (could use a bit of TLC on outside, but I'm sure the group will sort this). We didn't have lunch/dinner, but enjoyed a lovely meal at a private function and very much enjoyed our breakfasts over two days. The staff were very helpful whenever we asked for anything. My wife remarked on how clean the place was (dust free was the term she used). Lovely grounds and far enough away from busy road to be quiet. All in all, very enjoyable stay and would stay there again when I'm in the area.

We stayed at Hetland Hall for one night on our way south, the hotel and grounds are lovely. We checked in and were informed that we'd been allocated a 2nd floor room and there is no lift in the hotel, I'm nearly 70 but there was no offer of a porter to take the case upstairs for us whilst checking in, The room was lovely and the bar and restaurant were both excellent, great food and excellent waiting staff. The breakfast in the morning was first class and again the staff great. The only low light was check in, so if you have an issue with carrying a heavy suitcase up multiple flights of stairs ask for a ground floor room.

Lovely old building. Very quiet at night. Room was fairly spacious on second floor (no lift. Anyone with mobility issues would struggle) with black out blind. Dinner excellent. Great, helpful, approachable staff. No fridge or safe in rooms which we found unusual in a 4 star. Room was stifling, even with heating off, duvet far too heavy. Didn't sleep well whole time we were there. Indifferent breakfast with few choices. Buffet was very lacking in choice. Stayed in Dumfries to visit family nearby. It would be lovely in nice weather.

Beautiful hotel with lovely grounds and stylish interiors. Very well maintained and the staff were fantastic. The food was even better than expected, great menu choices too. We were lucky to be upgraded to a honeymoon suite which was stunning and a nice surprise.

Very nice hotel, beautiful interior and well kept and clean. Superior room was lovely and very spacious. Nice welcome pack of tea, coffee and biscuits. Replenished daily and I got extra tea and milk no problem. Beautiful views. Lovely surroundings and a nice play area for children. Nice for walks. Good parking available and it is for electric vehicles too. Food was lovely and great choices for hot and cold continental breakfast. Evening meals are also good and caters for all budgets and a great choice. Our only issue was with rowdy adults who let their children run riot to the early hours of the morning. They were part of a wedding party that were staying and having their function and catering there. I did notify the receptionist on our check out. There had been a few complaints. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Good comfortable stay Maybe needs some attention to detail. Bathroom window clearly damp and badly marked/ dirty. Needed cleaned.No hand soap to wash hands in bathroom.Had a room with 2 double beds but only 1 hot chocolate.Excellent breakfast but had to make on toast as informed chef was busy ! and missing promised portion of beans in full English.Also repair work to roof just outside our room which started before 9am. Bit noisy.

It was the hottest day of the year & the room had no air-con, plus my room was in the older part of the hotel so was really warm. But managed to get a good enough sleep.

I usually stay at Hetland Hall because it is located a bit off and it is quiet. This time though, not so much! There was a wedding reception (on a Tuesday) and I was for some reason given a room just over the ballroom. Extremely loud music until the middle of the night made sleeping impossible. I wasn't informed that there was a party that night and I can't understand why I wasn't given a room in some other part of the hotel. Simply unacceptable.

Superb hotel, excellent staff. Second time staying at this hotel for an overnight, weekend break. Very welcoming staff with a special mention to the bar staff and to Robin and the team in the restaurant. Food was delicious and service was second to none. Would definitely recommend

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Fabulous room. Lovely hotel inside (could use a bit of TLC on outside, but I'm sure the group will sort this). We didn't have lunch/dinner, but enjoyed a lovely meal at a private function and very much enjoyed our breakfasts over two days. The staff were very helpful whenever we asked for anything. My wife remarked on how clean the place was (dust free was the term she used). Lovely grounds and far enough away from busy road to be quiet. All in all, very enjoyable stay and would stay there again when I'm in the area.

We stayed at Hetland Hall for one night on our way south, the hotel and grounds are lovely. We checked in and were informed that we'd been allocated a 2nd floor room and there is no lift in the hotel, I'm nearly 70 but there was no offer of a porter to take the case upstairs for us whilst checking in, The room was lovely and the bar and restaurant were both excellent, great food and excellent waiting staff. The breakfast in the morning was first class and again the staff great. The only low light was check in, so if you have an issue with carrying a heavy suitcase up multiple flights of stairs ask for a ground floor room.

Lovely spot to stop on our way to the ferry. Rooms were huge and really comfy and breakfast was amazing. Could do with a little attention to inroom facilities as coffee/sugar etc wasn’t topped up before arrival and TV remote didn’t work properly but didn’t spoil our stay. Would definitely stay again and recommend

Nice hotel, but not top class. Would have been nice to have water in the bedrooms (even tap water would be fine). Somewhere to put your suitcase would also be helpful. Food was average

Hetland Hall is an impressive building located in beautiful grounds. Check in was extremely welcoming and this was symptomatic of service throughout our stay. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. The decor is, though, a little bling for my taste . I was disappointed that the Netflix button on the TV remote did not in fact result in bringing up Netflix! That said everything else in the room worked. The bathroom was spotless and the watering can shower was fantastic (although no shelving for washbag etc). The main factor that disappointed was the food offering - both at dinner and breakfast. Same issue with each - portion size was very meagre and at breakfast the scrambled eggs and black pudding (as well as being very meagre) were massively overdone to the point of being inedible. They also got my breakfast order wrong. No checked at dinner or breakfast of everything was ok. If the hotel can sort out portion size and cooking then it's going to be a winner.

Booked last minute and what a great find! The hotel was beautiful, the room was perfect, and we enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant. Breakfast was excellent too, overall a fantastic stay.

Great location, just off the A75 between Gretna (15miles) and Dumfries (10miles). Secluded to give some quite time away from the hussle and bussle of day to day. The hotel is finished to a very good standard and give you a feeling of staying in a property of excellence. Rooms are spacious, clean and inviting. Food avail in the restaurant and the bar - both serving good quality and value.

Stayed at the hotel a few years ago and we were very pleasantly surprised with the improvements that have been made. We had a lovely quiet room on the first floor overlooking the gardens. Breakfast was very good on both mornings and we had dinner each evening which was excellent. Lovely menu and served piping hot. One thing we found strange that the drinks tray in the room had coffee, tea, sugar, lovely biscuits but only one hot chocolate. We both fancied a hot chocolate at bedtime but were disappointed to find only one It was quite warm in our room, but I found a fan on the shelf in the wardrobe. Unfortunately when I plugged it in and switched it on I got a face full of dust. Just minor niggles but small things can make a big difference.
