Basilio 55 Rome

We stayed at Basilio 55 for 5 nights, and it turned out to be just right for us. The hotel is tucked away on a quiet side street just up from Piazza Barberini, making it a peaceful yet convenient base for exploring Rome. The quirky little lift to the upper floors was quite a novelty — cosy, but it added to the charm! Our room was clean and tidy with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom, while a little “tired” in places, was spotless and the shower always provided plenty of hot water. A big thank you to Mario, the hotel manager, who was extremely helpful throughout our stay. He assisted us in booking tickets for the Vatican, the Colosseum, and the Green Line hop-on hop-off bus — things I really should have arranged before our trip. The location was excellent, with a Metro station right at the bottom of the street. At just €1.30 per trip using contactless payment, it was incredibly easy and convenient to get around the city. Overall, we had a lovely stay. As part of an Expedia package with flights, it was also very reasonably priced. Thanks again for all your help and advice, Mario!

Great staff and a good location. Need to be fit as there is only a very small lift so we tended to use the spiral staircase.Decor needs upgrading and the lighting in one of our rooms was poor but a good price for the location we were in.

Definitivamente el hotel deja mucho que desear por el precio que pagamos. El elevador es muy pequeño y ese no es el problema sino que la escaleras son de mármol y eso las hace muy resbalosas, mi esposo se cayó. La iluminación de la habitación inadecuada no veíamos bien, el agua de la regadera se salía y el aire acondicionado nunca funcionó. Al salir del hotel olvidé mis airpods y no me los devolvieron, se quedaron en la habitación de eso estoy 100% segura. Pero me informaron que no los encontraron y pues ni hablar. La ubicación fue muy buena y abajo hay un bistró muy rico. Una lástima aunque quisiera recalcar que la atención de Vero fue excelente.

Be careful! They are charging you for your free breakfast!!!! They gave us coupons for a free breakfast but didn’t mention we were not allowed to eat fruit. We took a fruit and on departure they charged us 5€ saying that there coupon is only available for 1 croissant and 1 coffee. It was dishonest considering the poor breakfast choice. There wasn’t even enough croissants for everyone! The bed were ok but the washroom smelled like humidity and wasn’t really clean. (Mole) Angelika was the nicest person to work there. They are lucky to have her, she was a great help for information.

Shower would not drain, contacted management but this was not fixed during our stay. Bad quality shower products as well.

Well location great but I will not stay there again the rooms are not as described in the pictures I let fro t desk know bathroom has very very strong humidity smell thank god only booked for one night

I shouldn't trust the review score. After encountering ridiculous issues at this hotel, I checked the reviews and found everything was mentioned before. And I may find the reason is the manager only cares charging guests extra fees and cutting costs wherever possible 1st, The cleanliness makes me keep feeling disgusted whenever I think I have slept there, and this also made it hard to get asleep. Multiple hairs on the bed once I arrive, which made me doubt whether they have changed the sheet. Also manager, there is so much waste under the toilet rim. Can you please spend some money to hire someone to clean the toilet not only in the most visible areas? 2nd, You can not arrive after 9:30pm. The late fee is 20 euros/hour, but the hours does not depend on you, but depends on when the manager will arrive! So if he is delayed, be ready to pay 100 euros to just get in. I arrived at 10:05pm and called the manager, he said "you have to type in expedia you accept the late fee, otherwise I won't come". I typed but he could not see, so I waited 1 hour in the unsafe dark. When he arrived, he charged me 40 euros because he was late for 1.5 hours?! I had no choice at that late. 3rd, the hotel is in disrepair. The manager and I entered the room and the toilet bowl kept running water which was really noisy. He refused to change the room. I can not get asleep, until 2-hour waiting outside at next day noon for repair. And no compensation!

Support was amazing. Mario, the concierge was fantastic. The room was clean but not great (peeling paint, cramped -not like photos and the air conditioning fuse kept tripping) and no after hours staff.

Las fotos no corresponden a lo que ofrecen, esas fotos han de ser muy viejas, para mí no es un hotel, es un hostal viejo con 3 puertas para llegar a tu habitación, la luz se tarda en prender con la tarjeta, cuarto viejo y sucio, baño está afuera del cuarto y apesta con un olor muy desagradable, aparte de estar extremadamente sucio lleno de hongos, la señora de abajo que nos recibió anoche fue muy amable pero el señor de la mañana es un ratero porque nos dijeron cuando llegamos a las 10pm que el check out es a las 12 y cuando bajamos por la mañana nos cobraron 20 euros más porque el señor insiste que era a las 10am, no pasamos ni 20 horas en el hotel y ya te quieren cobrar más, muy mala manera de robar, la verdad no es un lugar recomendable para quedarse…

Room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable. There was some mold on the shower tile and the shower drain was slow but otherwise very nice and met our needs. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Location was fantastic with easy access to shops, restaurants and metro. Would recommend.

The room is not close to be similar to the pictures, The attitude of the stuff in the reception was bad arrogant and trying to over charge you.

Convenient located in the heart of Rome, walking distance for lot of the attractions. Good costumer service , i booked one of the room with private bathroom but outside the room ( i did not realized that ) which i did not like it but it was my fault. I suggest a mirror , at least a bottle of water and couple of glasses in the room , maybe a coffee maker ?

The room we were in was great, a big room with a Queen bed and 2 singles as there were 3 of us, was roomy. Airconditioning was awesome as it was mid summer and very hot outside. Staff were friendly and helpful. Close to Trevi Fountain and lots of shops, restaurants & transport very convenient. Lovely stay. Thank you :)

Cons- I was very disappointed with the hotel overall, and felt that it is not worth the approximate $200 a night we paid. To begin with, our room was poorly lit...we barely had any light. The bathroom was old and dirty...hardly any shower pressure...and a lack of hot water. The worst part was that the air conditioner didn't seem to work properly. The hotel itself is old, poorly maintained and falling apart, it could use a paint job, and definitely some major renovations especially the bathrooms. Pros- The employees I did come across were kind and quite helpful. We met the manager as we checked out and he was so nice, very helpful and gave us some great tips about our travels. Additionally, the hotel is an amazing location as you are pretty much in walking distance to everything.

I had a really hard time writing this review as I really wanted to love my stay. I was greeted so warmly and welcomed with such kind hospitality, I was really looking forward to my stay at this charming hotel. My issues began after being out all day and returning to my room at 29°C. Rooms require the key to be inserted into a slot to power the lights and air conditioning(ac). I understand the need for this, that's not the problem. After an hour however, the room had not cooled off so I went to get help. Instead of being greeted by the kind woman that checked me in, I was met by a young adult playing on their phone. Unconvinced that the ac was pushing warm air, they met me at the room. After confirming ac was not working, the only solution offered was to wait until the next day(our checkout) as no one was available to look at the unit. After pressing further, they said they would bring me a fan. What we received for our 29°C room was a miniature desk fan with a usb plug and no charger. We were never going to sleep and I was short low on patience, so I pressed further and was finally put in touch with a manager or owner. They finally got the ac to work and the room cooled off an hour later. I know I sound like I am over reacting but I don't have words to describe the could-not-be-bothered attitude from the evening staff we received, and how little they cared about resolving our situation. It only takes one person with a bad attitude to ruin a great experience.

Meget venlig betjening. Værelset og hotellet var i fin stand, men vi var ikke klar over at badeværelset var udenfor værelset. God beliggenhed.

Walking distance to major attarctions like Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon and close to nearby restaurants. We also felt safe with the location. Our room was small, but clean and quiet. Decent enough for a place to rest after a long day of sightseeing in a busy but beautiful city like Rome

Overall we had a good stay here. Nice hosts, good location. Accommodation was clean, nice big bed but was a littke tired in areas and not the best shower. It had a fridge but no kettle for making hot drinks which was a shame. We enjoyed our stay and had a fantastic visit to Rome.

The heat and air conditioning worked well when we needed them (weird to need them both in the same trip). The staff are AMAZING. So helpful and responsible, both before the trip and during our stay. Mario had lots of good information about things to do and helped us book a tour and airport transport. The location of the hotel was perfect - close to the metro and lots of the sights we wanted to see, close to lots of good restaurants too. But it was also on a quiet street, so that was good. Our room was quiet and comfortable. We'd 100% recommend staying here and would stay again if we come back to Rome. Thanks Basilio 55 staff for a great visit!

This hotel has been the worse hotel I have EVER stayed in. Would NOT recommend to anybody ! There is no 24hr front desk help, if we would have gotten there a minute later the doors would have been closed and there would have been no one to let us in the hotel. The walls on the room were dirty, the AC was not working, and Mario the owner was super rude. The bed was not done and when we asked why, Mario answered with, “it doesn’t say we have to make your bed in our policy” pointing at a paper on his desk. Please please please do NOT book this hotel!

Booked last minute for the last night of our trip before flying out of Rome. What a great choice to stay here. The owner Mario is worth the visit alone. He was so welcoming, funny, gave us some great recommendations. He treated us like we were family. He was also very helpful in sorting out some last minute private shuttles due to flight changes. Hotel is in a great location and has everything we needed. It was clean as well. No issues at all. We’ll definitely be back and recommend staying here. Attention - Scam Hotel Due to a late flight, we arrived after midnight. We had notified the owner through Expedia, but when we got to the hotel, no one was there. We ended up standing on the street after midnight with no room, arguing with the owner on the phone. The next morning, we spoke to the owner in person, and he insisted this was a no-show because he claimed he had not approved the late check-in via Expedia. He refused to give us a room for the remaining nights or to refund our money - hence, no room, no money refund. In the end, the owner was rude and raised his voice. Not sure this is a real hotel at all; we didn’t see any other guests.

A small hotel with a very friendly staff (specially Mario). Very helpful into understanding how to move in Rome. Conviniently located. Very close to the metro Station and to one stop of one of those sightseeing bus tours.

Terrible terrible experience! It's a BnB and it's very much run down. No upkeep at all with scratches all over the walls, faucets that don't work and everything is just worn and old. Also, if you arrive after 9:30pm be prepared to wait on the street for at least 30 minutes while they come from somewhere else to open up for you. And you'll be charged 20 euros per hour for arrivals after 9:30pm. (their website says free late check-ins). Manager is very rude too. Just do yourself a favor and stay away from this place

When we arrived, no one was on site to check us in. We were unable to enter the building. We called and were disconnected multiple times because the wi-fi and cell service was spotty because of the 'old building'. We were given instructions over the phone that were confusing because we needed to access a lock box and the room numbers weren't visible. After 40 minutes someone came to let us in. The key didn't work easily. 2 of the 4 pillows had stuffing instead of a pillow. The toiletries were sub-par and not labeled because the container was old and worn. The ride to the airport was posted on the site as 60 euros but we were charged 75. I asked for a refund and cancellation at check in because of all the issues but was told no.

Just home from a fantastic few days staying at Basilio 55. The hotel is beautiful and in a perfect location, close to all the sights in Rome. Mario was extremely helpful and goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable. As first timers to Rome, this made all the difference. Arranging airport transfers, booking tickets for attractions and even helping us plan the best routes to take. Highly recommend staying at Basilio, we will definitely be back. Perfect location for exploring some of the famous sites in Rome.

Bonjour Nous avons séjourné 5 nuit dans cet hôtel Ce n’est pas un hôtel grand luxe mais comme indiqué sur l’annonce Dans tous les cas la chambre a été nettoyé chaque jour Le personnel vraiment sympa pourtant mon anglais est vraiment approximatif mais nous nous sommes compris L’hôtel est à 2 pas d’un office de tourisme ou nous sommes tombés sur une femme qui parle le français Et a 10 pas du métro 6 min à pied de la fontaine de trevi Logement trop bien situé au top J’’y retournerai En ce qui concerne les alentours sales comme j ai pu lire dans certain commentaire oui ok mais en aucun cas lié à l’hôtel Basilio 55 Merci encore à eux car nous avons passer un super séjours

A lovely hotel and staff with a perfect location! We could walk to trevi fountain, pantheon, spanish steps and colosseum. Metro 100 meters down the street and a bus just around the corner that took us to a great place with a big pool for a day swimming. Right by Barberini on via San Bacilio which was a very quiet and safe street. We slept well in a very good and large bed, very good air conditioning in the room and a nice man who cleaned our room every day. A very good cafe with good food right next to the hotel and a lovely restaurant with good stone-baked pizza 10 meters down the street. My 7 years old son and I had an absolutely fantastic week in Rome in the middle of July during a heat wave, because our stay at this hotel. Very good recommendations from lovely and great Veronica who worked there and helped us with everything, explained and gave us many good suggestions for things we could do for both adults and children. In addition to Mario and a very sweet young girl who also looked after us. We will definitely be back and highly recommend! The breakfast was also very good. Top 10! Thank you San Basilio 55!

Overall this was a huge disappointment for the price ! This does not appear to be close to be a 4 star and also is more of a bed and breakfast and not a hotel. The rooms were old and very small and don’t be fooled by the photos. We could hear the street noise even though the claim was it was noise proof. The shower door did not even close properly and we had water leaking. We got no real help on how to move around since we had a tough time finding a taxi as a group of 7. Luckily the last day the lady at the reception was very kind to book us a van that can accommodate us and our luggage to go to the train station. They serve breakfast and it was not good and we had to pay for it. We ended up eating in the cafe next door which was decent and this is what i would recommend . The only possible pro to this place is the location as it is close to the barberini metro. When we checked in, we had a talk on the difference between quality and quantity by super mario where quantity can impact quality. Well this place needs to be evaluated as we found neither 😀. Would not recommend this !

Dette er ikke et hotell/ B&B som vi vil bo på igjen og heller ikke anbefale til andre. Det har engang vært et flott hus, med fine fliser på gulvet, marmor i trappene og en nydelig vask og benkeplate på badet. Så hvorfor må dette ødelegges ved småting som kiip plastkurv i dusjen med en flaske med såpe uten kork, et deksel på spyleknappen på veggen som løsnet pga at det var delvis ødelagt, en hjemmesnekret dorullholder i tre som absolutt ikke er i stil med rommet ellers, en ødelagt lyspære i den ene lampen, en TV som ikke fungerte pga manglende signal, en svært ustabil wifi, og ingen glass på badet (som jeg aldri har opplevd før i løpet av de vel 40 årene jeg har reist i diverse land!). Vi gav beskjed om flere av disse tingene, og lyspæren ble skiftet og dekslet på spyleknappen ble festet, men vi fikk ikke noen glass på badet (selv om vi ble lovet det) og det ble ingen endring i wifi. Det var heller ingen mulighet for å få frokost på søndagen, selv om det står i Hotel.com presentasjon av hotellet, at det er mulighet for frokost hver dag. Til det positive er det å si at sengen var veldig god og betjeningen hyggelig. Men totalt sett : skjerp dere!
