Parking was very unnecessarily expensive, I’m not sure why we have to pay and isn’t included in the room rate, for $250 a night we was expecting a pod coffee machine to say the least just a kettle tucked up in the cupboard is not something we would ever imagine, Buffet breakfast was on par we would of liked an omelette made but wasn’t offered or told and to pay for barista coffee too.

I LOVED this hotel and wish I could have stayed longer. I would definitely stay again. I was in an executive suite, which was very spacious. PROs: HUGE bathtub, washer-dryer in the room with soap packets, easy to hook laptop up to giant TV using an HDMI cable (they loaned me one), the heat/AC is very quiet, soundproofing is excellent, food is excellent, lots of drawers, 2 narrow closets, kettle and milk for tea (also a nepresso), comfortable bed, nice robes and slippers, great water pressure, both wand and rainshower heads in shower CONs: It feels a bit rude to complain about anything, but... the curtains are reversed -- sheers on the room side and blackout curtains on the window side which was weird and not convenient, the couch seat cushions were terribly overused and sink so low that using the ottoman was then very uncomfortable, the tap water is not good (chemical smell) and there is no complementary alternative - carried a lot of water from the convenience store 3 blocks away every day, shower door didn't close right so some water out on the floor which could get dangerously slippery All in all, GREAT experience. Service was excellent -- Tim served me for dinner all 4 nights and was a delight. The front desk people were friendly and helpful as well. I felt quite welcome. THANK YOU DISTINCTION.

We stayed 3 nights here (Fri, Sat, Sun) and were happy with the overall experience. The location of the hotel makes for an easy walk to the "octagon" area for food, drinks etc. Our 8th floor room was clean and quiet and check in was an easy process. Parking is actually in a multi storey car park directly opposite the hotel (was $74 AUD as of 30/09/2025 for the 3 nights). The room also came with a washer / dryer which was a nice touch. Bed was a little challenging comfort wise as it was two separate beds "wrapped" with King sheets to make the one. Elevator wait times can also be a little tricky as there is only one for each wing of the Hotel. In short, would we book again - yes. Enjoyable and pleasant overall - yes.

It is a beautiful hotel with spacious rooms the beds were the best ones we had our whole holiday. The shower was awesome had great pressure and it had a washer dryer which was a bonus.Parking cost but it is a great rate and easy to get in and out. Can not fault the hotel

We enjoyed the room. The bed was comfy, the room warm, and the bathroom immaculate with his and hers vanity's. Very nice. Our favorite routine was to .wake up, hit the well-equipped gym, and go to breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The buffet breakfast was top knotch. And then spend the day sightseeing before catching up with our student son for dinner. Then we would use the clothes washer and dryer to get the gym clothes ready for the next day. The staff are very friendly, respectful and helpful. I think we will stay at Distinction Hotels wherever we are.

Very nice hotel, room was excellent. Checkin and checkout was quick and easy. Only aspect that let it down is the restaurant - it appears they’re understaffed as service was slow - add to that breakfast was very overpriced which was disappointing. Apart from that, all good. 4/5.

Had a lovely stay at the Distinction Hotel Dunedin. Quiet, safe and staff were very attentive. Room was very spacious with kitchenette and washing machine and tumble dryer. Breakfast was one of the best I have at stying at a hotel.

The hotel is excellent quality and probably one of the top 2 hotels in Dunedin. Very convenient car parking building right opposite the hotel and it's about a 10min walk to The Octagon for bars, restaurants and cafes. Shopping on George Street is another 3 min walk. The reception staff were polite and friendly and they very kindly gave us our room earlier than the check-in time. I was very impressed with our king room which is clean, tidy and spacious. It had a kitchenette, washing machine/dryer and plenty of storage for longer stays. The bathroom was modern and huge. Loved the large walk-in shower. Just a pity there wasn't any shelf in the shower to put my toiletries, only the very small soap dish on the slide rail. Missed opportunity here for a recessed wall shelf. Also would've been good to have one of those mirrors that self de-mist as the extractor fan didn't seem to do a good job of removing the shower steam quickly. The TV only had Sky movie options instead of being a Smart TV with viewing platform options like Netflix. This is limiting as you have to start watching the movies at the set start times rather than when you want to. Extremely soft and comfortable king bed. Loved it. A buffet breakfast was included in the very reasonably priced room. The breakfast options were the standard hot and cold options, but all very fresh and tasty. A lovely tastefully decorated restaurant/dining area. Highly recommended. I'd definitely stay there again.

This was a last minute booking for us as we had to change a date. We've been in NZ for thirty days and this is the only large hotel we've stayed in. The bedroom was spotlessly clean, shower great, bed comfy but what was great was the fact that there was a washing machine and tumble drier in the ensuite!! We had breakfast included too which was a nice treat but the coffee choice was poor. Oh and I loved the thick towels in the room. Great location too.

We had a great stay at the Distinction. We stayed in the executive suit, and it was a fantastic room. Lovely and clean, nice staff, comfortable bed and in general great facilities. But there was one disappointment, and it was their TV's. They are too old. You can't connect with your phone and in general way out of date. Where live streaming is commonplace everywhere now, I was surprised that this was an issue. Get that fixed and get that fixed soon I would suggest.

Nice staff, good location. Just a really disappointing suite. Bedroom was nice but awful living layout and really dark. Be sure to ask for the rooms with a view, as this looked out on the other wing of the hotel which is pretty bleak.

This hotel was perfect for our 3 day stay in Dunedin. Good dining options and hotel bar. Room was generous in size and comfortable. Only slight issue was a rumbling noise coming from what sounded like large dryers on our floor until around midnight every night.

The Distinction is always our go to when in Dunedin or Christchurch. It's always a great stay and I would have given it 5 stars across the board however we had a terrible king size bed with a hump in the middle and bad sagging on both sides. Back was killing me when I woke up. I advised reception on checkout and they were going to get it removed. It was so unlike previous stays with them as the beds are usually fabulous. Otherwise everything else was fabulous.

We had a horrible stay the first night. The thermostat/air con wasn't working and our room felt like 30C. My husband and I had sore, dry throats and were stuffed up by the morning. We got zero sleep that night it was so hot. Luckily there was another room available for us the next night and we finally got some sleep. (No maintenance on weekends.) We ate at the Parcel's Restaurant both nights we were there and it far exceeded expectations! Highly recommend the restaurant.

Very nice hotel, room was excellent. Checkin and checkout was quick and easy. Only aspect that let it down is the restaurant - it appears they’re understaffed as service was slow - add to that breakfast was very overpriced which was disappointing. Apart from that, all good. 4/5.

Excellent hotel! We had a one bedroom suite and it was perfect. Lots of room. Liked the bathroom - great shower and nice to have a washer and dryer at our disposal in the room. Very comfortable bed. Great air conditioning too. The restaurant was the best hotel restaurant we’ve ever had. We ate 3 of 7 dinners there. Wonderful breakfast buffet too. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful. They accommodated our request for a late check-out which was much appreciated. I would absolutely stay here again.

The suite was wonderful—very spacious; lovely rain shower; staff was friendly, courteous and helpful with restaurant recommendations and sites to explore. Food at the hotel restaurant was great—we had a fabulous lamb dinner one evening—it was the best meal we had while visiting Australia and NZ. Go to the restaurant—you won’t be disappointed.

I give you a distinction for your hotel room! It was perfect. Comes with everything we need and the furnishings was luxurious. The price comes with hotel breakfast but the coffee is from filtered coffee. This is the only slight disappointment during the stay

Staff were accommodating on our arrival as we arrived half an hour before check in. We did offer to wait about or go for a walk but our room was ready and we were able to check in. Parking was convenient and we enjoyed a lovely walk down to the train station.
