Hotel AMANO Grand Central

Great hotel steps away from the Berlin Central train station making it super easy for travellers coming in on a fast train (€5) with suitcases from the airport. Within walking distance to all the maim attractions. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby

Other than the fabulous location across from main train station, not much else to say. Breakfast is poor and not fresh, staff polite but lack managerial skills. Stay for the location bt not much else

My experience since checking early evening: 1) Digital key worked, however once in the room I discovered that dkey could not unlock power for the room!!!! Had to open in the window in semi-darkness as air was stale and no ventilation 2) Called reception from the shoddy in-room handset and after a LONG wait a lady picked up and said I should come get a card at the reception in order to get light and ac. She could not send someone up with card: “we have no roomservice”. Only after me complaining further she argued that I could use “any card” to activate power. I used an old gymcard and problem was solved. But WHY use the dcard feature if the property is not set up to fully support it? Having to get a physical keycard regardless totally defeats the purpose of this fancy feature 3) Shower before dinner: I am 1.93m tall and the showerhead maxed out at 1.80. 4) Bathtowels razor thin tea towels, worst I have experienced for ages. 5) Came back from dinner with some basic groceries (cold drinks, pudding) only to find FRIDGE not working. Tried calling reception, no one answered. 5) The chair in my room was a a €10 euro stack chair of the shabbiest sort. Only good as an extra hanger. Had to watch tv from bed - a nice armchair/twin sofa is a MUST in a hotel in this price range I gave up calling reception and my email to hotel management remained unanswered, so did my response to Amano's own "how was your stay" survey. Totally unresponsive sums it up, hope this review helps.

The bathroom sink was clogged when we arrived, but the hotel staff fixed it promptly after we reported it. However, we had some issues with the amenities: the fridge didn't keep our drinks cold, and the sofa bed was quite uncomfortable. My child couldn't sleep the first night because the springs were poking through. We swapped places the next night, but it was still too uncomfortable to sleep on. After requesting an extra duvet to use as padding, it became manageable. ​The toilet is separate from the sink area, which is a bit inconvenient since you have to walk out to wash your hands. That said, considering the price and the excellent location right by Berlin Central Station, it was a decent stay."

Overall, the hotel is good in terms of facilities and location. However, on the second day of my stay, there was no hot water. A staff member came to the room and said it was not a problem because the water was not cold. But the hot water did not come back until we checked out, so my family had to take showers with unheated water (not exactly cold, but with no warmth at all).
