Great meals and friendly staff. Its an old building, with some cracks in the plaster- not surprising giving it shook through a 4.0 earthquake whilst I stayed there. Good old pub. I'm sure they'll eventually sort the hotwater system to provide a slightly better one. I'll be back anyways

As the beds in the dearer /ensuite rooms were unsteady/rocky and VERY squeaky we moved to a cheaper room with no ensuite but a much better bed. Generally the rooms need a little attention as they need a good clean , maintenance and a bit of a spruce up.

A real feeling of history with renovated comfortable rooms, many with original features and a seperate historical story for each room. Great value too. Many rooms use a shared bathroom, also reno. The meals here are wonderful.

Comfortable refurbished room. Had air con and TV. All we needed for a night. Only 1 toilet upstairs but never had to wait and can go downstairs for more toilets as well. Lovely to sit on the balcony. Thanks for a nice stay.

Tired, run down and tatty. Nice staff and quite cheap, but overpriced for the condition of the room and facilities. Campsites are better. But it is central to Alex.

Old world bedrooms, very comfortable bed . Beautiful linen . No ensuite. Creaky floor boards. Staff are excellent and the owner able sort out any problems. A great hotel for cyclists on rail trail. Very convenient having a great dining room on site.
