Highly recommend this ryokan. The service was out of this world and the property was so beautiful. We stayed in the Sumire room and it was very spacious with its own onsen on the patio. Such a relaxing stay, can’t wait to come back!

Veldig luksusfølelse, veldig rolig. Veldig deilig med en egen onsen på rommet. Spennende å bo på en tradisjonell ryokan. Maten var spennende, var litt mye når man bodde der 2 netter. Litt uvant. Var vanskelig å få kontakt med hotellet for henting da vi begge hadde e- sim og ikke kunne ringe men dette ordnet seg med at vi tog taubanen opp og gikk i 5 min

We had a wonderful stay for our honeymoon. The breakfast and dinner every day were fantastic, but the person waiting on us made our experience so much better. She was thoughtful, communicative, and very nice. The in room onsen was magnificent, the beds were the most comfortable we had stayed in all trip, and the spa treatment we received was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Very nice service, good food in classic Japanese style, staff are very nice and accommodating. The view from our room wasn’t the best, especially the private onsen was a bit lacklustre and the place is hard to get to, but that might just come with the territory in Hakone. The public onsen had a spectacular view, it was almost magical at night.

If you’re considering booking a different Ryokan while you are in Hakone, don’t. This is the one. I would fly all the way back just to be here again. We only got to spend two nights here and we wish we could have stayed forever. The moment you get to Gora station the transportation to the hotel and then the arrival immediately puts you in a state of peace and relaxation. The hotel staff are all lovely and very helpful. They truly care and know what it means to be in hospitality. The dinner and breakfast both days was so tasty and unique. The dinner experience itself is worth the entire stay. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed and the private onsen is a real treat. I would highly recommend staying here if you find yourself looking for a true 5 star experience.

Absolutely perfect in every way. The food was exquisite and the staff were so kind. Highly recommended! I have never spent anywhere near this amount on a hotel before, but given everything that’s included, it felt completely worth it. We stayed two nights in room 215 (Akebonosou) and it was perfect. The meals were completely different each day, and the private onsen with forest view was delightful. We could see a bit of the mountains from our balcony so we didn’t even miss out on a mountain view! The shuttle took us to and from Gora station whenever we needed (it’s actually walking distance, but uphill so a bit of a hike) and from there we could get to all the Hakone sights by foot or public transit. But the ryokan is the best sight of all and we spent as much time there as we could.

Nested in a semi-secluded hillside of Hakone, our spacious accommodation offered exceptional in-room onsen experience in a relaxing setting. The staffs were professional, courteous and friendly. Free pick-up and drop-offs at nearby attractions and Gora Station were wonderful to have since roads were pretty steep. Dinners and breakfasts were included and they were beautifully put together. Highly recommended.

Amazing visit to this ryokan! Would highly recommend. English friendly staff they were so attentive and welcoming. The dinner and breakfast were superb and we were stuffed by each meal. The in-room bath as well as the public baths are very nice. They provided pick up transportation from the local train station. I wouldn't hesitate to book this place.

The entire staff were super friendly, especially Yamamoto. They all ensured that our stay went without a hiccup. The space was very clean, though you can tell the minerals in the water are starting to erode some of the amenities (e.g. shower, wood on the onsen etc.) The dining experience was amazing and the food was delectable. It really felt like fine dining in a traditional setting.

We stopped at Madoka No Modi Ryoken for one nights during our stay in Japan and loved it! The staff were very friendly and attentive and the traditional Japanese breakfast/dinner was amazing. The room and private onsen was relaxing and peaceful and we will definitely be back!

This was our first and only Ryokan and so I feel my review is limited based on this singular experience but with that being said. Unlike other hotels that cost the same you’re not just paying for the location or the luxury of the room you’re paying for an entire experience, and this place delivers on that. The food is very good although I wish they offered better desserts than just a small fruit bowl. We loved how quiet and serene the entire grounds are, it was indicated that there were no rooms available and so I’m assuming the property was full though we only saw a couple of other guests, but it was always extremely quiet and peaceful and very relaxing. We booked the room we did specifically for the private onsen and it was great for two people.

Beautiful property, extremely friendly and caring staff. I accidentally left behind an item and they were very responsive and helped me figure out a solution to get the item back. The meal was beautiful and interesting experience! Even though I am not an adventurous eater, I could tell the thought and detail that went into it. The staff did a great job of explaining the dishes. Definitely a great experience to try when visiting Japan.

My husband and I stayed here and it was very relaxing. The staff is very kind and helpful. The staff mostly speaks English too. Since the facilities were so out of the way, we found it convenient to call their shuttle bus when we needed to get back to the hotel. The kaiseki meals provided were tasty and impressive. It was very helpful for the dinner that they provided a menu of each course because I have some food allergies. We didn’t use the other spas provided because the private bath was enough for us. The bed was so comfortable! The bar seats only a few people and got filled up quickly after dinner. Overall we loved it and would stay again.

Das Hotel bietet jedem Japan-Enthusiasten eine unvergessliche Erfahrung. Mir wurde hier der beste Service zu teil, den ich jemals in einem Hotel erfahren habe. Wer es sich aktiv leisten möchte, sollte unbedingt ein Zimmer mit privatem Onsen und die Halbpension bzgl. des Abendessens buchen - beides ein unvergesslicher Genuss für Körper und Gaumen. Wir sind bei Anreise zur nächstgelegenen Bushaltestelle gefahren und von dieser aus gelaufen. Wer schlecht zu Fuß ist, kann den kostenfreien Shuttle Service des Hotels von umliegenden Bus- und Bahnstationen in Anspruch nehmen. Insgesamt eine unvergessliche Erfahrung auf unserer Japanreise.
Das Hotel bietet jedem Japan-Enthusiasten eine unvergessliche Erfahrung. Mir wurde hier der beste Service zu teil, den ich jemals in einem Hotel erfahren habe. Wer es sich aktiv leisten möchte, sollte unbedingt ein Zimmer mit privatem Onsen und die Halbpension bzgl. des Abendessens buchen - beides ein unvergesslicher Genuss für Körper und Gaumen. Wir sind bei Anreise zur nächstgelegenen Bushaltestelle gefahren und von dieser aus gelaufen. Wer schlecht zu Fuß ist, kann den kostenfreien Shuttle Service des Hotels von umliegenden Bus- und Bahnstationen in Anspruch nehmen. Insgesamt eine unvergessliche Erfahrung auf unserer Japanreise.

Veldig luksusfølelse, veldig rolig. Veldig deilig med en egen onsen på rommet. Spennende å bo på en tradisjonell ryokan. Maten var spennende, var litt mye når man bodde der 2 netter. Litt uvant. Very nice service, good food in classic Japanese style, staff are very nice and accommodating. The view from our room wasn’t the best, especially the private onsen was a bit lacklustre and the place is hard to get to, but that might just come with the territory in Hakone. The public onsen had a spectacular view, it was almost magical at night.

If you’re considering booking a different Ryokan while you are in Hakone, don’t. This is the one. I would fly all the way back just to be here again. We only got to spend two nights here and we wish we could have stayed forever. The moment you get to Gora station the transportation to the hotel and then the arrival immediately puts you in a state of peace and relaxation. The hotel staff are all lovely and very helpful. They truly care and know what it means to be in hospitality. The dinner and breakfast both days was so tasty and unique. The dinner experience itself is worth the entire stay. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed and the private onsen is a real treat. I would highly recommend staying here if you find yourself looking for a true 5 star experience.

Absolutely perfect in every way. The food was exquisite and the staff were so kind. Highly recommended! I have never spent anywhere near this amount on a hotel before, but given everything that’s included, it felt completely worth it. We stayed two nights in room 215 (Akebonosou) and it was perfect. The meals were completely different each day, and the private onsen with forest view was delightful. We could see a bit of the mountains from our balcony so we didn’t even miss out on a mountain view! The shuttle took us to and from Gora station whenever we needed (it’s actually walking distance, but uphill so a bit of a hike) and from there we could get to all the Hakone sights by foot or public transit. But the ryokan is the best sight of all and we spent as much time there as we could.

Nested in a semi-secluded hillside of Hakone, our spacious accommodation offered exceptional in-room onsen experience in a relaxing setting. The staffs were professional, courteous and friendly. Free pick-up and drop-offs at nearby attractions and Gora Station were wonderful to have since roads were pretty steep. Dinners and breakfasts were included and they were beautifully put together. Highly recommended.

This ryokan was the highlight of our trip to Japan. The property is serene, the onsen is so relaxing, and the service was incredible. The food was delicious and abundant as well. It was truly a magical evening. Special thanks to Muna, our attendant during our stay - she was wonderful!

One of the most fabulous hotels I've ever stayed at. The service was impeccable, and the venue and staff really immersed you in Japanese culture. We were lucky enough to have dinner and breakfast in our room, which I highly recommend. We left the place feeling extraordinarily relaxed and energized and our only wishes that we would've stayed there longer.

We had a wonderful stay for our honeymoon. The breakfast and dinner every day were fantastic, but the person waiting on us made our experience so much better. She was thoughtful, communicative, and very nice. The in room onsen was magnificent, the beds were the most comfortable we had stayed in all trip, and the spa treatment we received was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful property, extremely friendly and caring staff. I accidentally left behind an item and they were very responsive and helped me figure out a solution to get the item back. The meal was beautiful and interesting experience! Even though I am not an adventurous eater, I could tell the thought and detail that went into it. The staff did a great job of explaining the dishes. Definitely a great experience to try when visiting Japan.

We stopped at Madoka No Modi Ryoken for one nights during our stay in Japan and loved it! The staff were very friendly and attentive and the traditional Japanese breakfast/dinner was amazing. The room and private onsen was relaxing and peaceful and we will definitely be back!

Amazing visit to this ryokan! Would highly recommend. English friendly staff they were so attentive and welcoming. The dinner and breakfast were superb and we were stuffed by each meal. The in-room bath as well as the public baths are very nice. They provided pick up transportation from the local train station. I wouldn't hesitate to book this place.

Real Ryokan it was a super unique experience. The food it’s outstanding and don’t forget to visit the bar I had one of the best dirty martini’s in my life. Beautiful property and experience!

Ryokan with mountain view open onsen, very beautiful. Offers private open bath in the room so would be great for couples without children. I can imagine this place is beautiful all year round. Do consider that all rooms seemingly have western beds (so no futons for sleeping) even though the rooms do have tatami. Rooms very spacious and very beautiful. Areas of opportunity: add a vending machine with the flavored milks outside the onsen, these are delicious and part of the experience. Add an email address and phone number with WhatsApp to call the shuttle as making a regular phone call from a foreign phone is difficult and expensive and there are no public phones in Sounzan station. Would also consider covering the ventilation ducts on the roof to improve the view from the veranda; overall this was a great and beautiful place, staff was amazing and they all spoke decent English which is a rare find. Great place.
