The Inn at Shady Lawn

Check-in fast. Room was very nice. Only issues were parking was very tight and coffee pot didn't work. Nice eatery next door. I would stay here again.

Very homely feel. Friendly staff, nice rooms. Parking can be a little tight but not too bad. And an under 10 minute ride to Sugar Mountain.

I was very pleased with my stay, I was arriving late, they made that easy for me getting my room past their check in time. Room was clean, grounds were clean. Parking is tight, thats not a knock, just to know if your in large vehicle keep that in mind. Shower was hot and refrigerator was cold so I was happy.

At this price range it would be hard to find a better stay in this area. The room had a mountain view and there was a nice little lounge area with a fire pit under a lovely tree. It was a great way to relax before bed. There was also a separate heating system in the bathroom which was much appreciated on a chilly morning. This is not the fanciest place one could stay in the area, but the owners have made an effort to make it welcoming.

We enjoyed our stay here at the Inn. Convenient and close to our favorite restaurants. Our room was clean, beds were comfy and staff were friendly. Can’t beat the rate and location. The evening was relaxing around the fire pit. The Cranberry Cafe next door had great food! We’ll be back.

Small, quaint motel in the mountains. Very clean. There’s a great place for breakfast right next door. Front desk was very helpful and friendly.

Great place, we will be back again. Owners, staff, warm, hospitable and helpful. Bbq grill avaliable along with fire pit to keep warm on site.

Only complaint was parking. I believe they were at full capacity our first night and we had to park in front of their restaurant. Very clean (that's saying something from me 😊) The bed was comfortable and everything was in working order. Would definitely return.

I found glass on the sheets

Staff was friendly, room was adequate to our needs but carpet in room was badly stained.

Not impressed. Carpet dirty with greasy film. Dirty walls in bathroom. Window a/c with wooden shutter blinds that covered entire window. No privacy for window above a/c inless you close entire wooden shutter - which does not allow for you to have a/c. Curtains were not moveable to cover window either. Had to hang a towel to cover. No dead bolt or security for door - just a twist lock on knob.

Hotel facility and the room was clean, staff was helpful and nice. Our stay was for 1 night and was very good. Our room was quiet and the bed very comfortable. the shower had plenty of hot water and had very good water pressure that I've ever experienced in a hotel! Would recommend to friends.

The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The room was one of the cleanest rooms I’ve ever stayed in. Overall it was a great experience and I would stay there again.

The rooms were immaculate - most definitely the cleanest rental I’ve ever had. The office staff was exceptionally helpful. The beds were very comfortable. It was a short ride to Hawks Nest with amazing Christmas trees nearby. This is our new favorite place to stay for future trips

We were very pleased with our stay at The Inn at Shady Lawn in Newland! Easy check-in with friendly staff, room was very clean, spacious and well stocked with freash linens. The area was quiet, felt very safe and within easy walking distance to nearby restaurants. We will definitely stay there again and highly recommend it to others!

We had a wonderful stay! The room was very clean, and the entire place looked great—warm, cozy, and well-kept. We were there just for the weekend to attend a wedding, but everything about the stay made it so comfortable and enjoyable. We will definitely be staying here again the next time we’re in the area!

Nice and spacious bathrooms.

This is a small town, but this motel had furnishings like home. Very nice, clean, large bathroom and good shower. But I'm not a fan of window a/c units. And the shutters over the unit... while creating privacy also blocked the air. I would stay here again. Nice quiet town. Couple of good restaurants.

Very nice, clean large room and the bed was very comfortable. The water pressure in the shower is pitiful and the shower light seemed to put out about 10 watts of light, but everything else was very nice.

A must read review! My fiance and I, stayed the weekend at Shady Lawn. We rented a king room and were given a room at the very front of the hotel and figured the sound of traffic would not let us rest so we ask to change to a different room on the upper part of the hotel. We were told all that was available was a double bed and all the king rooms were at the front of the hotel which is close to the road. We accepted the double bed room. Without a doubt we were given the worst condition room in the entire place i wanted to cancel my reservation then but knew that it might be impossible to find another hotel with availability so we stayed. The carpet in the room was nasty, stained, had torn places even turned our feet brown on the bottom. We found a fake eye lash stuck on one of the comforters, stained mattress cover, trash in bathroom, ceiling falling and leaking in the closet, the main door would hardly latch and the fact they dont have dead bolts on the door is a little concerning. Mattresses are worn out and beds sit low to the floor. After checking out i noticed a $56 charge to my credit card I called ask why the gentleman was very nice and said it was a fee for changing rooms and he would refund it which he did. It really bothered me they charged my card without my permission so I spoke to the owner and ask for a partial refund because of the condition of the room and he refused. He said you received a discount, NO!! I paid what Expedia advertised!! and a trashy room! Als

The room was large and the bathroom was very large with a large shower. The bed was comfy but a little low to the ground for my liking. They had shampoo/conditioner, lotions for each person not just one set for everyone to share, I liked that, normally I have to bring my own because theirs just isn’t enough. Rooms were quiet. We will be staying again.

Running 2 air conditioners in room that were super loud, and only cooled the room to 74/75. Definitely not ideal for sleeping.

This hotel reminded me of a mom and pop hotel. The staff was super friendly. A nice younger guy checked us in. He was really friendly. There is a restaurant on the property and they have a small bar. The waitress and the restaurant manager were both very nice. We only had appetizers and one drink each, but it was very good. The room looked exactly like it did in the pictures. It was very clean and the bathroom was spacious. The carpet had a couple of little stains, almost like somebody had dripped coffee but nothing major. The air conditioning was a window unit, which was fine, but I would have liked to have had a film on the windows so you couldn’t see in. When you closed the curtain all the way you didn’t fill the air as well. The room still stayed cool. The bad was very comfortable.The town has a couple of other little restaurants. It’s about 20 min from Banner Elk and 40 from Blowing Rock. The town definitely is not a tourist destination but we felt safe. I would stay here again.

This is a cute motel in Newland, a charming town near Grandfather's Mountain. The staff was friendly, and the room was very clean, and had been updated. The style reminded my husband and me of motels we had stayed in when we were children. The only issue was that it was cooled by a window air conditioner with wide blinds, so that to have air in the room, the blinds had to remain open. On a better note, they were generous with coffee, shampoo, etc. and provided cold water bottles, which was very nice during these hot days.

Staff at Inn and restaurant was great!!!

Booked a room for me and some friends while snowboarding around 6pm we show up around midnight and we’re greeted by a very intoxicated man who claims to had called the boss and then told us no rooms were available after we had already paid 150$ for our room and said their was nothing he could do to help us and then recorded us the whole way back to our car, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and I’ve never left a review on anything before.

The owners/proprietors/managers are the BEST ever. Friendly, hospitable, check-in super easy, rooms are clean, and honestly, we sat out by the fire and felt like we had been friends with them for an eternity. I have no doubt that we will return.

The room was great. I gave us a very clean and comfortable place to sleep. We could use a second chair for the table. The bathroom was huge and the shower was great. But the staff were ok and somewhat disorganized. And when we arrived back in the evening (about 8pm) there was no where to park and it was a very confusing scene. That made it feel a bit unsafe - not sure who all these cars belonged to!

This is a great little place for us. Our son owns a business and home close, so we have stayed there several times. It's always been a very nice stay. It's near attractions and restaurants. Always neat and clean, and a very friendly staff.

They went above and beyond too make sure we had everything we needed and the kindness they showed was amazing

I had rented a premium room and when i called the hotel to let them know i was going to be late getting there i was told they would leave the key in the room and leave the room unlocked and then gave me the room number. This was fine with me. Well i then received a call saying that the room they gave me was wrong and that they would have to change it, do to the fact someone was sleeping in it. They had no more premium rooms and would have to downgrade me. And they had no upgrades to give me. This frustrated me some do to the fact that me and my wife was trying to get away to the mountains for the weekend.

Hotel Manager and staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. We will definitely stay again.

This is our second time. Staff is always friendly. The location is great. Definitely becoming our go to place when we come to visit my son in college.

Bathroom was very nicely renovated with beautiful Jacuzzi bathtub, separate shower, double sinks with complimentary soaps ,shampoos etc, towels folded and super clean, we had separate bedrooms and living area very nice with large flat screen TV, Super tidy and clean not a speck of dust! Little bit noisy since its on busy street but can't remove a star because of it, we had breakfast at " The Cranberry Inn , located right next to the Inn, best breakfast ever!!

It was very clean. The man at the desk was very personable and gave us local restaurant recommendations. Kate's Kitchen brunch buffet was outstanding!!!!

The property is very nice and comfortable, but the parking lot is not for big cars. You can park, but be careful because you will get half of the other parking space. The area is a small town with 5 restaurants around and any of them work after 10pm. The hotel and the area is very safe you can walk easily. I recommend it.

Shady Lawn is a nice little place. Newland is a sleepy little town with very limited hours on dining options.

This inn has been renovated and is above average when it comes to spacious, elevated accommodations. Check in was easy and staff was charming and personable. Restaurant next door is top notch. Highly recommend the Blueberry French Toast!
