Sunday Hotel 52, Playa del Carmen

Would have been a great spot but the set up for the buffet every day was the noisiest thing I've ever heard in a hotel. I was 2 floors down from the roof and it woke me up daily at 6am. I ended up changing to another hotel. The staff were great and the location was good. Close to a lot of restaurants and 5th Ave hustle. There was mold in the shower which I had them clean upon arrival, but it never did fully clean up. Couldn't smell it and it didnt make my eyes hurt so wasnt too bad. Bed was decent and rooftop area was nice. If you don't choose the buffet breakfast, your coffee will be the price of a good Americano up the street. Would have appreciated a more friendly price for guests.

The staff were friendly and helpful. A fridge in the room would have been nice. The pool area was nice, seating was limited due to the amount of bird poop on the chairs

It is very basic, but the bed is great, room is quiet and the rooftop area very nice!

Todo del hotel fue increíble, el servicio y la atención, los desayunos y la piscina. Solamente que no había buen internet en las habitaciones y el parqueo no se pudo usar y tuvimos que de dejar el carro en la calle

El hotel es muy bonito y muy bien ubicado, sin embargo estuvo en mantenimiento el ascensor y hubo que subir por las gradas las maletas grandes. Y también. Lo cual me hace pensar en personas con discapacidad podrían tener problemas en este hotel si sucede lo mismo en esos días.

We had a great 2-night stay at Hotel 52. Traveled with teen and pre-teen. Breakfast and pool on the roof was lovely.

The hotel is in a great location. You literally walkout to the main strip where everything is located. The hotel doesn’t have a gym but there are some nearby. I highly recommend going to a gym called Evolve. The rooms are nice and I had great customer service at the front desk. Nobody really used the swimming pool because the beach is so close.

Nice place! Been before and will return again. A few minor annoyances, like a room safe that didn’t work, and was too small to keep a laptop. But the staff are great! Underground parking is great.!

Its really dirty

Spotless, that depends on your definition of spotless. Yes, it was clean, but it wasn't a 5 star hotel. It was a beach hotel, but very good. And the staff was courteous and hard working. If you want to stay at an affordable safe and clean hotel on a budget, this place is good.

No hot water in the shower. No steady internet. Dirty filthy windows. I did not care to make pics.

Great location, rooms are big but smell moldy. We had to move to another room. We paid xtra for parking and it was based on availability only. We parked on the street.

Breakfast was limited and from the menu, not a buffé. The room was not very clean and when we turned the light off at night the cockroaches crawled out. But what else can we expect from a three-star hotel. The hotel is around the corner from 5th avenue in the quieter part. The roof terrace with a perfectly ok roof pool and sunbeds. Go to buy fresh coconut around the corner for 25 pesos instead of 70 on 5th.

Wir hatten ein Zimmer im Erdgeschoss für eine Nacht (Overlay vor Weiterreise). Die Decke und der Boden waren nicht verputzt, es erinnerte an eine Abstellkammer. Es roch nach Schimmel. Hinter der Tür hing ein genutztes Handtuch von den letzten Gästen. Es wimmelte von Mosquitos, wir erwischten bestimmt 10 und es tauchten immer weitere auf. Der aufgerufene Preis war für dieses Zimmer viel zu hoch. Buchung ohne Frühstück, daher keine Aussage dazu möglich.

Very basic, not modernized at all. 1 flimsy chair that looked unsafe to sit in. No USB ports at all. The hallway reaked of a musty smell. The room was a concrete floor, no carpeting or rugs. No refrigerator. The hot water was abundant and it had great water pressure. The A/C worked well. The housekeeping staff was wonderful and kept the room clean. Nothing horrible, just a plain, basic room.

“It’s an old building. They have a room on the first floor with a lot of humidity coming off the concrete. The window opens directly to the walking area and stairs, bringing in excessive noise from kids and their parents early in the morning. Around 7:30 AM, workers arrive, and you can hear everything they do. There is no real sense of privacy in that place. They also require signing too many unnecessary documents for check-in and check-out. Additionally, the internet speed fluctuates, and sometimes it doesn’t work at all.

It is very basic, but the bed is great, room is quiet and the rooftop area very nice!

Overall I've expected more from "4-star" hotel. The room is veeery basic and minimalistic. I stayed at 4th floor, "under" the cafe. Every morning at 6am they started moving tabels/chairs/something. And it's loud, and made me woke up. Stuff is nice and friendly.

Trevligt hotell och många trevliga restauranger i närheten. Lyhörda rum och inget WiFi i rummet som ej gick att åtgärda under min vistelse. Poolen är trevlig.

Pros This hotel was located right next to 5th but it wasn’t like in the middle of everything so it was good. The staff were nice and tried to help to their best efforts. The pool was pretty indeed ne looked like the pictures. The price was good for the place. Cons Do not ask the staff to help you with a taxi because the will overprice for like 3x. Why do you think they have more pictures of the pool than anything else in this hotel. The rooms were okay. The floor looked like it was “painted” years ago and as time went on it’s been clearing and doesn’t look so great. As seen in one of the pictures on the site, the sink IS NOT IN THE BATHROOM. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in so be warned. The cleaning lady actually leaves a small envelope so you can tip them ne I found this was my first time seeing this ever. It was interesting but at least she did a great job. The sheets and towels were okay but one throw pillow that was on the bed smelled so bad. Like it’s been there since the opening of the hotel and never been washed smh. OTHER The amenities available are just what is listed. The only thing they have is a pool. There’s no washing machine or dryer ir any other common amenities you’d see in other hotels. I advise to find a laundry place near the hotel because you may need it. Overall it was an okay stay. Pay more attention to the pictures so you won’t be shocked upon arriving but it was an okay stay.

Leider sind die zimmer sehr hellhörig. Das erste neben der treppe war furchtbar, hier konnte man nachts nich dchlafen da teilweuse stufen locker waren. Nach einem Zimmerwechsrl, war der Fernseher aus dem Nachbarzimmer furchtbar laut, als hätte ich selber den fernseher angestellt. Leider sitzt man meistens auch in einem dunklen zimmer, da die fenstern in den innenhof gehen, bei angeschaltenem licht, kann jeder reinsehen.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to ANYONE. The staff has a level of privilege that is crazy. The rudest front desk I have ever encountered

Reserve este hotel bastantes días y al momento de llegar no respetaron mi reservación diciéndome que no tenían habitaciones disponibles!! Dejándome varada en la madrugada sin hotel y sin donde quedarme.. volví al día siguiente para que me dieran habitación ya que estaba mi reservación aún y volvieron a hacerme lo mismo. De manera grosera me dijeron que tenían todo lleno VOLVIENDO A IGNORAR LA RESERVA QUE TENÍA, les di mi nombre y número de reservación y no hubo atención ni respuesta. Inclusive le comenté que llamara a su gerente al cual llamó y dijo que el “no podía hacer nada” antes de llegar estuve toda la tarde hablando por teléfono para avisar mi llegada ya que tenía mis tours y no los podía perder y no hubo respuesta, les mostré las 30 llamadas que hice y solo respondió el de recepcion “ya cambiamos de numero” en ningún momento me pude contactar con el hotel y no me pudieron resolver absolutamente nada. Tuve que reservar al momento mis otras 3 noches en algún lugar cercano ya que me dejaron sin habitación.

I made this reservation late one night and had an error on the dates. I tried immediately to contact the hotel and they insisted I fix it through Expedia, however, when Expedia finally got a hold of them they wouldn't allow the correction, so I am now out the money for the reservation.

The location was perfect for us, just off 5th but not in the busy section. The lobby is cute as well as the garden space between the buildings. Something to note is it appears that the king rooms all face the garden while the rooms with two beds face the street. The hotel is probably due for some upgrades but there was nothing wrong with it. Sheets were clean and the staff was very kind and helpful. I wish the breakfast was a bit better, we ate there on the first morning and didn’t go back. I also wish that they left bottles of water in the room and that there was a mini fridge.

A unos pasos de t quinta avenida todo excelente

its close to 5th avenue so you can just walk everywhere. lots of shopping and dining options

I had never been to Playa del Carmen before, it would have been nice to know that the pedestrian walkway to the central area was just left as you exit the hotel. I turned right and the area felt less safe as I was walking along the sidewalk. It is a great location for the price, once I realized how close it was to the pedestrian road. The staff are friendly and the hotel is very clean.

Hotel conveniently located just half block from 5th avenue but in the quiet area. Beautiful garden rooftop but pool is not heated. Breakfast was ok. The rooms are basic but bed and pillows super comfortable. The only downer is that there was not hot water in the shower but we only stayed for 1 night so i'm not sure if it was a one time issue.

At the north end of 5th Ave. Convenient x close but not right on the avenue x a little distance from the noise x activity. Easy access to northbound 5th ave to public beaches (less known). Roof top cafe 👍, good food, very friendly. Roof top pool. Front lobby staff all very nice, accommodating. Great place for the rate. (Would like an in room mini fridge). 👍😁

We stayed at this hotel just one night before we went to our resort the next day. It was a clean, basic room. Quiet, and located close to many bars, restaurants and local markets.

I really like this property and then everything you needed a rooftop pool restaurant for breakfast and simple but well equipped bedrooms. The beds were very comfortable in the lemons were very nice

Excelente opción de estancia, todos muy amables y serviciales. Las instalaciones muy limpias y cómodas. Los desayunos súper ricos. La alberca súper bonita y limpia. Una gran ventaja es que el hotel cuenta con estacionamiento y puedes resguardar tu vehículo. En general todo súper bien 👍 lo recomiendo ampliamente.

The location of the hotel is great, in a more quiet part of the fifth street, very close to good restaurants and beach. The staff is generally great, except for the breakfast team. Unfortunately the breakfast is not great at all, very limited, and the breakfast staff is flat-out rude and have no standards for service. Would not recommend to pay extra for daily breakfast, the hotel should focus more on the rooms and guest service instead of trying to upsell breakfast, if this is not a priority.

The lighting in the room is bery poor, it feels you are in a cave. Breakfast portions are very tiny.

Staff was friendly and good to work with. The courtyard area and rooftop area were beautiful! Breakfast is cooked to order every day and is great! This is a great option if you are on a bit of a budget. Still a nice and beautiful hotel with good breakfast without breaking the bank! Things to note: The rooms are not super sound proof so you can hear a lot of what is happening outside the room, if you are a light sleeper this might not be the best option. The bathroom door for our room was also glass which was totally fine for just my husband and me, but just something to keep in mind if you want a little more privacy.
