HOSHINOYA Fuji

Very unique and upscale rooms that are minimalist but adequate. The view was the main attraction and we were not disappointed. A pleasant surprise was the outdoor fireplace that the staff lighted every evening on the comfy balcony. The rooms were quiet and the staff was friendly and helpful. One downside was the strict process they used handled the meal reservations. When we checked in most of the dining times were already reserved and we had to eat later than we desired. When we went into the dining room there were very few tables being used so a bit disappointing- also the breakfast didn’t begin early enough so we were unable to eat our first morning, however we did make it to breakfast the second day and it was delicious! They need more dining times to accommodate all guests since there really aren’t other easily accessible restaurants nearby. The bar area was also a problem since it didn’t open until 7pm, and it was quite dark sitting outside. Finally there are a lot of steps to get from your room to reception, dining and the bar and they need to be better lit. People also need to be in relatively good shape to make the hike up and down. We did have a wonderful stay, but a few tweaks would make it even better!

The view was excellent. But we needed to have hotel car from hotel (in the middle of mountain) every time, so we had to return to hotel quite early.

We drove to Hoshinoya Fuji, as it was dark, the entry towards the check-in area is very easy to missed, suggest to have more road sign leading towards the resort. Once we checked in, there is a car to pick us up to our room up the mountain. The view of Fuji is stunning, if you are lucky enough to see it. Room and breakfast service are great, and so are the amenities in the resort. Booking for activities got to be done by 6pm the day before (no exception can be made). Was really interested in the morning kayak, however they need at least a minimum of 2 guests to be able to join which is a pity, as i was travelling with elderly, none of them wanted to do it. Suggest the hotel could instead help to match up the guest joining the activitiy, so more people that do not come in a pair can join as well. Overall a great once in the lifetime experience. cannot really beat waking up at 5am with Mount Fuji right in front of it. Stunning!

Beautiful hotel, but was surprised that so many things were chargeable, wished that it came with some more affordable dining options, or at least transport to town made available.

Staffs are friendly. One comment is that when we came back to hotel after 7pm on one occasion the reception was closed and we were given a telephone number to call for transport to fetch us to our room. However, after many calls there were no response. Similar experience when we went out of hotel early at 7am, but when we came back to hotel at 9am and pressed the door phone for transport to our room. Again there was no response from the hotel and we ended up walking our way back to our room. It was tiring as we walked up steep slopes.

The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the 1 day/2 nights we spent here were rainy days. Our canoe experience was cancelled of course. And after half a days time, we felt very restless and a bit trapped. The compound overall is quite small. We thought we could take a hike in the drizzle but there were not any paths through the trees, as advertised on their map. We walked up and down the compound (a lot of stairs) to find a trail but the trails were either blocked off (due to rain) or non-existent. No trails were clearly marked. To get in and out of the compound you need to ask the staff to drive you a short distance to a lower parking lot area, where then you would have to call a cab to go "into town". Given that we were there for a such a short time and had a scheduled dinner and 1 mid-day activity (the smoking workship), it didn\'t make sense for us to make the trek out of the compound. The smoking workshop was not so much of a "workshop" but a quick 15 min. demonstration of woodchips, tabletop smoker, with a charcuterie board. It left much to be desired. The in-room shabu shabu and sukiyaki was delicious and the highlight of our stay. I do wish however, the vegetable pairings were different for the two meals but I understand that it\'s local ingredients. Eating on the balcony under the heated blanket was also the most unique experience of Hoshinoya. We also never got to see Mt. Fuji due to the weather.

This place was incredible and the staff were very attentive, it was literally a dream. The only things I would advise are the activities they mention for free are not all happening. The coffee discovery and a few others never occurred. The sweet time is just smores they leave out 24/7. There is actually no bar area. The fragrance session had only one to choose from and it didn’t have a smell. They advertise 3 etc. The food if you order there is extremely expensive for such a limited amount. It seems like they are cutting corners with their offerings, though that’s why I chose the resort. A bit disappointed. What you are paying for is the view and the incredible staff.

Amazing location and service. Limited options on food but it was all delicious. The room was very comfortable, clean, and had a great view of Mt Fuji. I would highly recommend this place if you want to spend time in nature and luxury.

Hoshinoya has great views with terrible service and terrible rooms, although the hotel is isolated with no nearby restaurants, their restaurant is terrible. They refuse service. Room cleaning is basically non existent.

Hoshinoya Fuji is just so beautiful and serene. We stayed for two nights and had the most comfortable bed we slept in during our long trip to Japan. Service was very quick and gracious, always there to book a cab for us (no uber in this area) or bring us an in-room curry at the last minute. Donald hooked us up with amazing recommendations for hiking Mt Fuji and Aokigahara Forest. The breakfast and dinner prepared by the hotel were plentiful and delicious. The walls in our room were a little dirty seemingly from people’s suitcases rubbing against them but overall the room was absolutely incredible with a stunning view of Mt Fuji, very quiet and comfortable. There were also outdoor backpacks to rent for free that had things like binoculars, cushions, and little fig/granola type bars in them, which was great so that we didn’t have to use our travel backpacks! Our favorite feature of this hotel was the patio set up with had a table on it flanked by large cushions and lined with a heated blanket that we fell asleep sitting at the first night! It is the size of a bed and just as comfortable/warm, but outside!! We loved it! The only things we would change are 1) the shower - it’s a handheld in a bathtub that makes it really easy to spray water all over the bathroom if you’re not careful… maybe just add a normal shower head? The pressure and temperature were great though. And 2) an outdoor hot tub! 😆 Thanks for a great stay, Hoshinoya!

Room was very nice, spacious, very clean, beautiful view of the Fuji Mountain. The staff are very kind and extremely attentive. The room was well lit and very easy to control the lights from either side of the beds. Loved the heated floors, the heated blanket table located on the patio. Amenities included with the room are tea, coffee, water, a 5 step facial cleansing routine in the form of dispensable bottles rather than single use bottle. As for the food breakfast (in room) was good, nothing amazing but still good. Dinner (at the restaurant), I felt very sick after eating it, not sure it was worth my money. Resulted in many trips to the bathroom afterward. Overall you pay for the view and great hospitality, (dinner) food is probably not worth your money, there are other options close to town in Oishi but all require some kind of vehicle to get to.

Location and views are spectacular. Cleanliness and fit out of rooms could be improved.

Amazing place with a spectacular view of Mount Fuji

My favourite stay ever! If you like somewhere quiet, with some tranquility, relaxation and nature, this is perfect. The view of Mt Fuji with the kotatsu under the night sky made this so memorable. However, keep in mind that the location is remote, so is more ideal as a stay within the properties. You can get a taxi in and out, but can be a bit of a hassle.

Whole experience was amazing. Property was in a beautiful setting overlooking Fujisan and lake Kawaguchiko. Service provided by staff was beyond my expectations, care and attention to detail in everything from the check-in experience to organising our meals and activities was excellent.

While cabin room is nice and the in-room shabu shabu dinner and in-room breakfast were very good, the whole stage was stolen by the fact the hotel charged me a cancellation fee for a canoe on the lake activity that I decided to cancel due to raining. All they could say is that is the hotel policy to apply an activity cancellation fee if I don’t cancel by 6 AM. They surely showed me some paper that I signed at check in that says so, but they didn’t do their best to make sure I was aware of this ridiculous rule. First because they didn’t leave me any paper to keep with the activity rules and conditions, so that I could double check and follow them later on, and second, at the time of booking the canoeing, they sent me a confirmation email that clearly says that cancelation fee shouldn’t apply in case of rain, and this email was the only document I could refer to after the check in. I believe the hotel should have taken accountability for such lack of linearity and transparency and I and tried the entire morning to explain my position to hotel staff, but the only answer I got was “this is hotel policy”, so I finally gave up and paid. And we are talking about a cancelation fee of 6,000 yen (35$) out of a total bill of almost 210,000 Yen (almost 1,400$) for a one night stay in a hotel that takes much effort, such as 4 hours by trains or 300$ by taxi, and big expectations to reach from Tokyo (one way). Such little money but big issue ruined my valuation of my entire stay.

We stayed three nights and were unable to go to restaurant of our choice. Otherwise, staff was very friendly and helpful, view of Mt. Fuji from balcony was wonderful when weather was right.

Rooms were lovely and the views were incredible. The staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. We enjoyed the dining and activities on site immensely. A word of caution: the resort is a fair distance away from Kawaguchiko and it was difficult for us to find taxis consistently. So if you plan on staying primarily at the resort it’s not a problem but if you’re a “get out and about” type of traveler be prepared.

Location of hotel is excellent for full view of Mt Fuji. However, it may be tricky to locate if you are taking public transport. Staff are friendly and service is excellent. Not for travellers who are in a rush. Take time to enjoy the peace, tranquil and refresh oneself.

This property was fantastic. With inspirational views of Mt. Fuji from every room, to the peaceful surrounding forest, it was exactly what we were looking for, especially after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. The food was delicious and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. The shabu shabu hot pot dinner on our porch with the view of Mt. Fuji was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had.

The Hoshino Group always serves delicious meals, so I am always satisfied. The view here was beautiful and I was very satisfied.

This place is absolutely stunning! We felt in complete bliss from the moment we arrived snd sad to have left. It was a great relaxing break after Tokyo. The service was incredible, all staff was lovely. The views from the cabins were absolutely STUNNING! We were blessed enough to have clear views of mount Fuji! The attention to detail from the backpacks to the small feeebies were lovely. The food delicious!! The WAGU STEAK was cooked to perfection and we also did the pizza makonv experience and it was probably the best pizza we have ever had! We will definately be back
