Sound View Greenport

Nice rooms, very clean and spacious bathroom, and comfortable beds. The restaurant is good but would be nice for a better breakfast option. The pool was freezing and the pool deck could use an update. Lovely beach but the rocks will kill your feet. I wish they would take a portion of the beach.

Just average place for top dollar! Epic FAIL having to pay $26.00 per day to park either on own or with valet! Only 1 nt stay, but not all lights in room working, window didn’t fully close. At check-out, asked front desk for change of a $20 to tip valet, and they said “We don’t have cash here”!! REALLY? Restaurant staff confused, noisy restaurant. Won’t return. Much better options available in area. Oh well… Lesson learned…

Property, views, and interior design is beautiful. Staff was underwhelming. Front desk woman seemed like didnt want to be there. They have a beautiful lobby area with stunning views and a little cafe but you cant enjoy coffee or anything before 5pm which was odd and a waste of a beautiful space. So if its cloudy/cool and you want to sit and enjoy views with a coffee you cant. Bizarre. Also no room service. For the money the amenities were underwhelming.

Our stay was everything we were looking for, waterfront, easy on/off the beach from our room, lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach and nearby pool. Sunsets were amazing, lobster rolls in the piano bar were incredible. One day there was an issue with the kitchen and they brough complimentary spread to the pool area. July is expensive but it was definitely worth it. We live on Long Island and didn't have to deal with flying issues. Just a 2 hour drive and 4 days of relaxing sun.....

Right on the water. Private beach with chair and umbrellas.they will serve you right on the beach bye getting you food and drinks also has a outdoor swimming pool..nice staff..nothing special about the continental breakfast..bagels, fruit, small croissants, small danish and some hard boiled eggs..coffee and oj..i was pleased with my stay. King deluxe room..small table with chairs on the shared deck..could sit outside til about 2pm and the sun starts to beat on you but no biggy..was very humid out when my wife and i was there..a/ c really could not cool the room as much as we would have liked. Nothing wrong with the a/c it just because the sun beating on the hotel all day..luckily i brought a couple of small usb fans to help keep cool at night while we slept did the trick..overall i enjoy my stay and you could not ask for anything more when it comes to the scenery..

We loved most everything about our 2-night stay. The views off of our private and very large deck on the sand were amazing and such a big part of what we loved about staying here. The location is great for relaxation and our junior suite was a great size to spread out and also enjoy the views with one whole wall being glass doors to the outside. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the morning breakfast was very nice. The only minor complaint is the hefty resort charge which isn’t a flat rate like most other hotels, but instead a percentage of your room rate which varies greatly by room type. They also charge $25+ for nightly overnight self-parking literally outside each guest room, which isn’t listed on their website. In terms of serenity/lack thereof, you’re at the mercy of neighboring guests and their noise volume, as the private decks are only made private by a sail hanging in between, which is great for visual privacy but not a sound barrier by any means. All in all a great stay and we look forward to returning next year.

An overall good stay, but main light fixture was not working in room 128. Limited breakfast service was disappointing. Limited afternoon pool time, closing at 6PM on a summer day… does not seem welcoming to people looking to cool down from a day exploring the area.

We absolutely love Greenport and the Sound View is the best place to stay. We always get a suite and love having our private balcony to enjoy the view. We usually go in the Fall so this was our first Summer experience and we enjoyed the pool and lounging on the beach and having a waitress offering food and drinks was perfect!

The hotel is on a beautiful site The hotel room was not clean and the maids did not go out of their way to service the room They knocked on the door very early and asked if I wanted towels One day they did service the room They made the bed and added towels They did not wash the coffee cup. They did not sweep or vacuum the floor The floor was sandy from previous tenants and had wood chips on it I ran out of toilet paper and had to ask the maintanence man Wasnt impressed I was very shocked that they allowed smoking The man in room 203 smoked cigars on the balony and in his room I havent seen that in years What makes it worth it was the view but for 1900 on a Saturday night I would want better service

Very Clean and has beautiful views

I wish the hotel cleans the windows before the customers checking in. I chose Sound View because of the ocean view and I’m sure a lot of others have the same reason. When we checked in, the window was very dirty and it definitely turned down my mood. I came outside with wet tissue to clean the window by myself then I found out two other customers were already wiping their windows. LOL. It was very easy and quick cleaning and we enjoy the sound and view very much!

We love the location of SoundView but the rooms could use some updating. Upon arrival to our room we noticed a draft and saw the sliding door was not meeting the lock. We also found a light on the wall broken and hanging and the toilet seat was too small for the bowl. The glass door looked so dirty we could not see out to the sound, the reason we booked the Sound View and that was for the view. We asked to change rooms and when we did we found the same small toilet seat cover on the toilet in our “new” room. The glass door was also dirty however someone came and painstakingly cleaned it with a bottle of windex. At least we could see the sound. There was also no light on the wall where the other light was hanging broken in the first room. I truly hope the small toilet seats are addressed as hygiene is important and skimping on the correct size seat should never happen. Also if a resort prides themselves on providing rooms with a view of the water then cleaning the windows before patrons arrive is a no brainer, especially when you are charged a resort fee.

We just returned from a 4 night first stay at Sound View. We stayed in the 100 building, midway between the restaurant and pool. The view from our room and balcony was just incredible. The room was spotless clean…remember to request housekeeping at front desk each morning. Breakfast consisted of fresh bagels and pastries, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fresh fruits, OJ and coffee. The entire staff was pleasant, friendly and helpful. Seeing that we are seniors, the valet parking attendant even offered to drive us by golf cart to the pool and pick us up! Although we walked it, the offer was greatly appreciated. All in all a fantastic place to stay. We highly recommend Sound View and will be returning!

Love the view! It was our Anniversary and the hotel left a bottle of Prosecco for us! Very thoughtful. A little disappointed we had to call for maintenance because the TV wasn’t working. It seems the remote needed batteries (something that should be checked prior to each guest coming) Also the view was amazing however the 2 screen doors glass was so dirty we had to go outside to actually view the water.

Even though the view was amazing, i would not return to sound view. The receptionist who check us in, was borderline rude and not very helpful, the hotel over all was worn (don't trust the pictures) and the amazing view was screened by how dirty the windows were. I know it's difficult to keep windows clean from the sea breeze, but birdshit can and should be cleaned...

The area where the coffee and the ice bucket was sitting had some ants they weren’t many but I made sure I didn’t leave anything or any food sitting there because of that. Also, I thought they should be complementary of water but all in all I love the place and the food is amazing.

Amazing view and location. Room is clean overall but could use more shelves and drawers. Restaurant is not open daily. When opened, very hard to get seated.

We stayed in the one-story building for one night and it is a dump! No comforts at all, no chairs or table, no closet, no parking near your room (valet only), and very expensive for nothing! The manager, Anthony, was great, and we got another room the next day. Their two-story building is the better choice, it has most of what you'd expect in a room, and it has a large private balcony with a great view. It's not fancy, but for a short get-away it's fine.

I booked a Standard room and it was overpriced for what it was. My room had a locked adjoining door to another room and I could hear the people (talking, humming, snoring, etc.) through the non-sound proofed door. There was no place in the bathroom to set your things down beyond a toothbrush. The A/C unit was loud, but at least it drowned out the people next door.

I was expecting more out of this place since it was redone but it was ok. The room was clean but the biggest flaw and what would deter me from never coming back is the lack of balcony privacy! Why would they redo the rooms and not make some sort of divider between the rooms? We couldn’t even go on the deck because the room next to us was sitting right outside our bathroom window and even weirder is they had a view to the bed in our room. You couldn’t enjoy the view unless you wanted someone watching you inside your room. Gave this place a totally cheap motel feel, it’s a shame because they have made it look a lot better than it was. Staff was friendly and room was clean so if you want to be close to Greenport and don’t plan on opening your window and look out at the sound this place will do.

We loved our stay. It’s like a motel turned eco friendly resort. We had an upper corner room, which afforded us unobstructed views and privacy. The bed was so comfortable and the room was spacious—except for the bathroom. The bathroom needs vanity space! While the charm of this place is partly due to its being vintage, if I’m spending $800 a night I want a modern, spacious bathroom.

Great spot on sound-cedar room made you feel like in a log cabin nice-amenities good. Bed super comfy and shower great pressure and instant hot water. For the high price I feel the windows should open with screen to enjoy surf at night the knobs were removed. Balconies great but not private. Free breakfast very basic and stale bagels. Parking fees too.

The location can’t be beat. You walk out your door and onto the beach. The staff is wonderful. All the kids working there are so attentive and sweet. We had a fantastic time. Cons: the room was so damp, everything we left with smelled. Windows didn’t open (they are all being replaced at some point but none in our building opened). The AC was old and I believe this is what caused the room to be damp. That plus no air circulation. The finishes are old. It feels tired. All of that said, I’d stay there again in a heartbeat but know what I’m signing up for. You’re not staying in a “luxury” room.

Didn't like that the rooms are not insulated for sound - can hear everything in the adjoining rooms.

It was amazing. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the room was very comfortable and the views were spectacular. I upgraded the room to include a sitting area and it was huge. Like a one bedroom. Fifty Area restaurants were very nice and affordable and tasty. Very relaxing getaway and I will definitely come back.

We were able to check in early and got settled in our room. Since it was a Thursday, I didn't know that a lot of their amenities were closed (restaurant for lunch, tiki bar, fire place on the water, Jack's Shack). We went into town and got some food and came back. We laid out by the water and eventually got ready for dinner. I was surprised by my now fiancee at our engagement at sunset! We were so happy and excited for our dinner at the Halyard. When we first arrived, we were congratulated and brought to our seat. I asked if we were able to sit outside and they said unfortunately the table was reserved and they only had inside available. I was disappointed because I saw many more open tables available outside. My fiancee and I were so disappointed with the inside service we received from that point on. We were not attended to for over 30 mins and were rushed to complete our drinks and food order. The table across from us were attended to the entire night and we had to ask our server constantly to come over to us to order another round of drinks. My fiancee ordered a steak that he asked for medium and came out well done and just charcoal. He tasted char from the steak and it did not sit well with him all night. The entire night felt rushed and disappointing. Right before paying, we were compensated 1 drink as a congrats. I felt horrible from this dinner experience of what was supposed to be a happy moment for us. I'm not sure if I would ever stay here again.

Had to leave property early due to change in work assignment and the hotel would not refund the unused portion of my stay. Things terrible business practices and I will never stay there again, nor will I refer any additional business to them. I work for a $28 billion company and arrange travel for my employees all the time. This place will never see another dime from my company.

Overall, I was disappointed with the level of service provided during our stay. The staff were not welcoming, and the gentleman at the front desk was neither friendly nor forthcoming with essential information about our stay or the hotel amenities. At breakfast, the service was equally lacking. Staff were not proactive in restocking items, and it wasn't until I asked for basic necessities like plates, coffee, and breakfast items that anything was replenished. This gave the impression of disorganization and a lack of attentiveness to guests.

This hotel can do better for the price they charge. I was really excited to visit, but would not go again. On the top of everything I was told at 4pm that my room is not ready to b checked in, and the front desk person acted like that is ok. She just told me "you can wait in the restaurant". Really?? To wait after 4pm for the room I paid $650/ night.

Thank you Adrian. She was wonderful and made my mother’s birthday special. Every interaction we had with the staff was positive. The halyard served a delicious lobster roll in a beautiful setting. We will be back.

Breakfast and the Halyard restaurant are top shelf. A few quirks with our room(s) - no cable service, a locked bathroom door that couldn’t be opened, and a dead bolt that didn’t work- but the staff were helpful and accommodating and did everything they could to make things right.

The beach was beautiful. We requested early check in multiple times prior to our trip and day off. Our room was not ready until 3:50pm. I understand it’s busy but I received quite an attitude from the front desk when I inquired about it. During continental breakfast I asked one of the hotel employees if they had more sugar and he seemed annoyed. Just not super pleasant people working there (aside from the valet and one woman at the front desk who I spoke with in the morning) and made us feel like we were being annoying, meanwhile we are super low maintenance. The rooms were nice enough. No complimentary waters in the rooms which I find a little ridiculous at a beach hotel sort of secluded from any food/drink options. The restaurant was great for lunch and the service there was fantastic. We have stayed at the Harborfront and had great experiences so this was a little disappointing, though the beach was the great.

Feels like a remote vacation destination just a couple of hours from home. Self-contained property with private beach and pool away from crowds and tourists, but close to town.

What I love about the Soundview after 45 yrs of visiting is the view it is always unforgettable.

Beautiful setting on the Sound.

Nicest spot on the North Fork. Every room has a beautiful beach view. The sunsets are spectacular and can be seen from every room’s deck or the well appointed restaurant. The hotel is a short drive to many local wineries and to Greenport which is a quaint local town. Take a short ferry ride Shelter Island and then another short ferry to Sag Harbor. This area is great fun all year round.

We loved the location of our room which opened right onto the sound. Stunning sunsets!!

Rooms on the water - such a vibe especially on the moody night we had! Nice set up inside, cozy bar on premises and easy access into Greenport.

Not a lot for the price. Front staff was not super friendly. The standard room is very standard, small and very expensive. The location is not super convenient and on the busy road. Parking is tough but they do have valet. The view on the beach is beautiful and the people working the beach are were super nice. I think there are much better options and just didn't know the area well enough to find them. I know for next time.

Funky, updated beachfront motel. Room was huge with great waterfront view from large shared balcony. A bit tattered (hole in sofa upholstery, rug unravelling). Large closet but absolutely no dresser drawers or surface space for clothes (I used the ironing board). Hotel descriptions of dining options and recreation experiences didn’t mention limited days and hours of operations. Hours are buried on hotel’s website. We were there Wed-Fri and restaurant is only open Thurs- Sun! During peak season!! Fun looking beach bar evening bonfires are only on the weekends! During peak season! Staff didn’t go out of their way to accommodate- we were told ‘no’ many times (not even ‘no, sorry’). Included breakfast is hard boiled eggs, assorted bagels and croissants, cereal and packaged yogurt. Husband drinks diet pepsi in the am- no coffee for him!- and was told ‘no’ again! Front desk staff seemed disconnected and unconcerned. There was just no ‘hustle’ or welcoming feeling. And- I can’t stress this enough- it is peak season!!

The breakfast buffet was very disappointing… not many options. Mostly cold food (cold boiled eggs, cereal, yoghurts).

Me and my fiancée came for our last date anniversary before we get married and really enjoyed the stay. Even though it was February the weather was really good and being right next to the water was amazing. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The only thing is they should have somebody clean the windows facing the water since the sea salt creates a white film which gets in the way of the view. In terms of the staff everybody was super accommodating and friendly, with the exception of one girl in the front desk. Not that she was overly rude or anything but she was very dry compared to all the other staff. The Halyard restaurant was also a great experience. The food was really good and the cocktails were excellent. The bartender had no issue whipping up any cocktail you asked for whether it was a classic or modern cocktail. Our first night (a Thursday) they had live music at the bar which was also a really good experience, the musician was really good. Location wise it was also amazing as you have an amazing amount of vineyards and breweries located minutes away from the hotel. Overall, a really exceptional place for a quick getaway weekend. We look forward to coming back in the summer months when their pool and beach bar are open.

Restaurant was horrible, other wise not an bad experience

Everything was really enjoyable, staff etc. the one issue we had was the only Meat option they have on the menu at The Halyard, they ran out of. Steak. You need more than 1 meat option. We ended up leaving the restaurant and headed into town. No one seemed to care to much
